Total magnificence. We lived our stay. The staff are wonderful.

Enjoyable stay. Lovely room, clean, amazing toiletries. Fantastic location and great bar area. Sadly no availability for dinner as we'd booked to stay very last minute. One of the bar staff was quite frosty. Keen to go back to try the food. Decent breakfast at the Ludlow Kitchen next door.

Fresh fruit salad, with yoghurt and honey breakfast, sat in the sun, was perfection. Bedroom spacious, well equipped, with exquisite lotions and shampoos, with its own door to the car park so it's easy to come and go. Suppers in the Clive restaurant, shopping at the food centre. A stay made perfect by the brilliant service.

Fantastic Sunday roast the starters were amazing the roasts were so big and delicious with a side of cauliflower cheese. The service was great and very friendly especially for a hit busy Sunday 🔥☀️

Have stayed at The Clive Arms many times on business and eaten in the restaurant. The rooms are reasonably priced, warm and comfortable, but the restaurant is superb. The chef clearly loves his work and turns out excellent meal after excellent meal. Service is always friendly and the beer great.

Review in two parts. First of the hotel itself. Spacious room, with a big bathroom attached. I do missed proper curtains at the windows because I prefer dark to sleep, but that is personal. Friendly reception. The restaurant is next. The food was great and of quality, and there is an extensive wine and spirits list. Unfortunately the service for dinner disappointed for a restaurant of this caliber. Used glasses were not collected and new ones plunked down next to it. We had a gin flight but had to ask for the next one every time. Staff was not attentive nor did they check if we needed something in between. It felt like all the staff was working for their first day without anyone properly having oversight. I hope this was a one time fluke.

The Clive Arms is a lovely hotel and would certainly recommend it. We really enjoyed the gin distillery tour next door and there’s also a very good farm shop. Couldn’t fault the breakfast/service. My only small criticism would be that the menu at the Clive Arms restaurant needs a bit more variety, but the food and service were both very good.

The pub offers a great selection of local and continental beers, along with a variety of Ludlow and other whiskies. The food is excellent, made with high-quality, local produce from the estate. When you enter, there's a room on the right that looks like a large country house living room, which is my favourite spot. There is also diner-style seating available. The pub features both a formal and informal restaurant. Overall, this is a very nice pub, thoughtfully put together by the country estate it's located on.

We stayed nearby with The Clive Arms being a short walk away. What an amazing pub! Super cosy with friendly staff and amazing food. We visited for drinks with the local lager being delicious and again for a dinner. Couldn’t fault anything, was all absolutely delicious!

Absolutely a gem of a place. Booked by chance and will definitely come back. A distillery, shops, cafe, takeaway as well as the pub we stayed in. The room was a beautifully converted barn or stable and was very roomy with lovely toiletries.

We did not stay here as we are local. We came for dinner. The most imaginative selection of delicious, locally sourced gluten free options (which anybody could eat and never know!) . I had the venison with truffle gnocchi and the first gf sticky toffee pud I’ve had in Years! House red also perfect with the venison. A delightful dining experience with polite staff and a lovely ambience. We will be recommending The Clive to our visitors at Acton Scott Hall . Congratulations to the chef!

We had a lovely meal here as a large family group. The food was excellent as was the service. The staff couldn't have been better.

Had a good stay here in a massive room. Easy to cast to the TV with other good amenities in the room. Staff were friendly. Breakfast is available for purchase in the Ludlow Kitchen next door. It's just off the main road, so very convenient if you're travelling through, but there was a little noise from the road

What an absolutely amazing stay we had last Sunday night. This place was a central distance between Leeds and South Wales to meet up with family. We booked the Stay and Dine package for the family room for the four of us. The pub/hotel was easy to find, free parking and upon arrival the gentleman on reception could not be more friendly and helpful. Taking us to our accommodation and showing us around. The family room was on the ground floor with a small step up in. You walked into the twin room which had an armchair, desk, coffee table, two beds, TV, wardrobe, tea and coffee tray etc, bedside tables _ all in working order and impeccably clean. From that bedroom was an inner hall with a well appointed bathroom, shower over the bath and enough towels of all sizes. Free use of soaps and potions. Back into the hall was the king size bedroom with all the same attention to detail. We had booked in for Sunday lunch - a 2 course meal - in the stay and dine package. With a glass of wine each. A VERY pleasant house wine, so much so we bought a bottle to bring home from the farm shop. Booking is a must. The carrots were the best! Even though the restaurant wasn't open in the evening for food, the bar was and there was a comfy seating area for chats and drinks. The staff were all amazing, very attentive and generally just excellent at their jobs. Breakfast we went over to the farm kitchen a very short distance away. The full English set us up nicely with unlimited coffee and tea as we were staying guests. The gift shop, distillery and farm shop where enjoyed by all and had it not been raining so much we would have been wandering around to look at the sculptures outside too. I imaging in the summer it would be lovely to sit out on the benches, lawns etc and people watch! A special shout out to the cleaners on site. The senior lady was super and helped out. No information being given on that but needless to say she was fab!. Overall I can not find fault at all with the whole experience. Now the bonus to all this adventure and excitement was the cost. A family room for 4, 2 course Sunday lunch, glass of wine each........ £115 IN TOTAL. Not each. IN TOTAL!!! Without doubt if you are looking to get away for a little break this is a wonderful place. Just remember your cards for all the shopping! Thank you to The Clive Arms staff and those of Ludlow Farm.

A family weekend to Ludlow that was absolutely brilliant. The room was good, the location was convenient. The food (evening meal) and the service were outstanding. Highly recommended…

Just had a weekend at the Clive. I booked four rooms for friends to celebrate my wife’s 60th. Everyone loved their rooms - spacious, modern and spotlessly clean. We ate in the restaurant on Friday evening, and again, everyone was really impressed. All staff were exceptionally polite, friendly and help. Everyone in our party said they’d love to stay at the Clive again. Thanks to all at the hotel for helping make it a very special weekend.

Had a lovely 3 night stay at The Clive . Excellent value for money. The room we had was spacious and clean. Enjoyed Ludlow Farm Shop and Kitchen which is on site. Food delicious from both. Staff friendly and we're accomodating to a last minute change of dates needed. Prompt reply from a fabulous Reception Team. I would recommend this lovely hotel without hesitation. Many Thanks. 5 star review

Me and my friend had the best two night break. The food was delightful, as were our rooms. The service was personable and uplifting… Joan the waitress was so accommodating and chatty. The lady on check in was very friendly, and helpful. It’s dog friendly too. We have been going every year for the last 5 years and it never disappoints. We love it!!

Had an evening meal here for my husbands birthday, and honestly can say it was outstanding and we will be back. They gave my hubby a free birthday drink, which was a lovely touch. We both had steaks, they were very good value for money and very good portions. The quality of the steak was excellent and cooked just right for us

Lovely dinner. Really well cooked food. We had rhe beetroot starter, then lamb or trout. All delicious. Lovely house red too. All at under £50 a head all in.

Have driven past hundreds of times, but decided to stop for lunch and it was great, I’m almost reluctant to write a review as I don’t want it to be packed the next time I go back! The pub is nicely decorated, clean fresh and the food was out really quickly, so for a quick stop for lunch it was brilliant .. I’ll be back with the family for sure!

An absolute delight to stop here for lunch and a nights stay. The food was 10/10, the service was 10/10 and our room was 10/10. Our dogs were spoilt by the waitresses and also had a few naughty treats. As soon as you turn up you are made to feel at home and its great going to stay in such a beautiful place with your dogs. Great value for money too and will definitely be returning when we come here again. Keep up the great work!!

Delightful stay. Manager and staff very welcoming and helpful. Lovely meal in the Clive Arms. Our room was excellent, spacious, nice decor and very comfortable bed . Loose leaf tea, real coffee and a small fridge . Wished I’d taken a small mirror as , although bathroom beautiful with a great shower , being short sighted I couldn’t get close enough to the mirror to put make up on. Nice breakfast at the Ludlow cafe next door , free tea and coffee and the manageress made an effort to take an interest in your stay

We came for 2 meals here during our holiday . One was a lunch time meal in restaurant and the other a Sunday lunch in bar with our two standard poodles. Absolutely lovely place , great food and good service . Would definitely come back when next in the area . Thank you so much

well after a chaotic 4.5 hour journey which included a tyre blow out, vehicle recovery and missed meal booking.. you couldn't have asked for a better response from the team at The Clive Arms. Sympathetic beyond belief and bent over backwards to try and alleviate the trials and tribulations of the day. Room was superb, bed really comfortable, breakfast next door was great and adjacent to some lovely local shops/outlets...like a mini Christmas village. Definitely recommended 💯👍

I cannot comment on the rooms as we only popped in for dinner The food is absolutely amazing and the service is brilliant. The only downside is we don't live close enough to visit more often!! 😊

The Clive catered for a family meal following my father’s funeral. They did a superb job, the food was excellent and the service faultless. Thanks to all the staff involved.

We visited The Clive Arms in September for my brother’s stag do and really enjoyed the experience. We dined in the Plassey room, which was the perfect size for our group of 10 and had a nice, warm atmosphere. It was great to have our own space as we didn’t have to worry about imposing on the other guests, which can often be an issue with larger groups. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was delicious, and being able to pre-order made things very easy on the night of our visit. Would definitely recommend to all, and will happily visit again in the future!

Nice place if a little pricey. Dudn't stay so unable to rate the rooms

M

Lovely pub with a farm shop at same location. Plenty of parking and lots of space inside. Only 4 stars as we had to wait for 5 minutes before a member of staff came to the bar. Very friendly staff once we served though. We only stopped for a drink so can't comment on the food

C
Chris Collins

Great service and excellent food. The room was large, the bed huge, extremely clean and well presented. Only slight downside was the bathroom. Whilst very clean, the shower was just a handheld head on a pole and had a shower curtain, a personal pet hate unfortunately. Please don't be put off by this, however as we were in a dog friendly room, others in the hotel have better bathrooms and the overall stay was great. Fantastic location too with the farm shop, cafe gift shop and excellent distillery all within a couple of minutes walk.

Stopped here wanting food but doesn't start food till 5.30pm which is fine, Also doesn't open till 3pm, quite a few people came in some asked for cake and biscuits, I was surprised that they don't do it as would be a good idea on listening to people. Young waitress friendly and helpful, welcoming, barmaid wasn't quite the same, but found the atmosphere nice, place clean and tidy and busy. Lots of tables booked for food tonight, rooms available as is a hotel, will go back and recommend

M
Max Wild

We booked an evening meal and we cannot but praise the welcome and service. The homemade tomato soup and salmon moose were excellent, as was the trout. But the crab risotto was a disaster - too much chilli and little evidence of crab - and what was the mayonnaise on top. It seems that the chef had decided that a risotto is fundamentally bland and needs jazzing up. Big mistake! But don't let this one failure put you off!

J
Judy

We did not stay here we just met friends for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is beautifully done. We had the two course for £27 and all 4 of us felt it was just OK and not great value for money. The meat and veg came already all on the plate apart from the cauliflower cheese. We did not expect that. Roasties were hard, carrots whole but not roasted, no parsnips. Deserts again just OK nothing special. Cheeseboard with strange black crackers. Service was very average, staff seemed more interested in socialising amongst themselves than making sure tables were looked after. We had to get someone’s attention whenever we needed more drinks. Would not visit again.

m

Not much of a selection if you're a vegetarian our stay was booked on a trip to the distillery but when we got there we weren't booked on it anyway so the trip was a bust the room was fine but the extractor in the bathroom was dusty everyone seemed scared to ask the chef/cook any questions and we were told that he wouldn't like fact that my wife wanted it well done and when he decides to pay for our meal cook it the way we want it. I can't say I was blown away with the whole experience and would definitely not return

Stopped for a quick break en route north. Very busy in restaurant and were advised to get a takeout. Machine coffee and a small blue cheese sausage roll, although I couldn't taste any blue cheese. At £2+ I would have expected better. Toilets were clean. Won't bother with this place again.

M
Mike Nash

Bit of a mixed bag. Wife had haddock and chips which was a lovely meal. I had cheeseburger which was more mediocre. The burger was underdone and yet still a tad dry. The above meals and filter coffee for 2 came to just shy of £40. For what we got, thought that a little expensive. Don't think we will visit again.

A
Alex Everett

Stopped for a quick break en route south. busy in restaurant. Asked for a menu, staff Reply “ no more food (2pm on Sunday) as kitchen busy with pre booked table” etc. coffee was average. There was a cafe detached from the pub. Asked staff if we could sit outside because of dog. Lady to her credit was nice said only the front outside tables are in use as staff could not manage both areas being open. Front area was full. advised to get a takeaway which is a separate outlet. Disappointing, choice of sausage rolls and sandwiches. I would have expected better. Won't bother with this place again. Went to the Queen , which was a bit further on (8 minutes and was extremely satisfied)

Christmas eve: Great check in, lovely smiley guy & showed me to my room, Looked spotless & modern But - Bed rock hard Pillows had the old sweaty smell Christmas day: Same lovely guy at breakfast ⭐️ Room was cleaned while I ate. Boxing day: Utter shambles in restaurant Only 1 useless woman serving & taking orders Milk gone off & wanted coffee - not cappuccino. Waited so long to be served I left in disappointment, without having breakfast 🙄 Over priced for what I received.

C
Claire Andrews

What a disappointment. Room just ok. No curtains. Poorly fitted blinds. Lets in too much light at night. Loo almost on the floor. Poor fitting. Weak shower over a bath with the dreaded shower curtain Will never return

I was quite excited discovering this nicely appearing restaurant few days ago but greatly disappointed a few days later that it was in my view, actually just a common pub grab eatery. I let it pass more than 48 hours before writing this, in hope not to succumb to the anger which I was left with. I ordered what they pompously call “venison and smoked bacon pasta”. It was really nothing more than a handful of dry macaroni and venison nowhere to be found other than in the menu. When asked by waitress why I left it untouched, I responded I did not like it. She only acknowledged and would adjust our bill. Sadly, that was not the case and for my complaint, we were severely punished. In my experience a decent restaurant, a patron would be asked if s/he would like to order anything else, but I suspect the kitchen was about to close so regrettably, it was to be missed. Admittedly, the beer, (hand cut) chips and my other half meal (Cod fillet) was reasonable, hence 2 stars, as opposed to no stars at all. I’ll visit this place (maybe) one day in a remote future in hope that the management would change and that I was proved to have been wrong with this review.

W
Wandering Man

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent experience at The Clive Arms was so shockingly mismanaged that I feel compelled to warn others. The pub itself is fine—decent food, polite staff, and a nice atmosphere—but the entire experience was ruined by one individual: the so-called "Assistant Manager" (though I suspect his badge was a clerical error—perhaps he’s just the assistant to the manager). This man was a walking disaster. While every other staff member remained calm, professional, and attentive, he stomped around like a headless chicken, visibly stressed over absolutely nothing. It was as if he had never encountered a moderately busy pub before. Orders were delayed, customers were ignored, and the entire service was thrown into chaos—not because of any actual crisis, but because this guy was completely out of his depth.
