The best tacos in Los Angeles. Seasoned perfectly, hand made tortillas and unique ingredients. I ordered the hutlacoche taco, which is a Mexican delicacy. It was fabulous. Also I had rajas tacos and chicharrón en salsa verde. Everything was fantastic. This place is a gem, if you like really good tacos de guisado.
The most unique tacos in the most unlikely of neighborhoods. These are not your every day street tacos. At $3 a pop they are worth ever cent. The coconut shrimp taco was the star with the fried fish taco coming in a very close 2nd. I didn't try anything other than the tacos, but that's just another reason for me to come back!
The food here is so 🔥 man i recommend it to everybody. Im not from the area but everytime im near this place i have to stop by and get me korean asada burrito and a michelada! Nice family owned business and the owner she is very nice!
Job in town. Looked up places with high ratings and ended here. This place is like my dream come true, love their menu (ingredients) even though I've only had one item this far. Would love to one day own a place with such enovations on food, traditional or not. Had the Tropical T burrito by the way. Back soon .
We're from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and had just landed in LAX. We did our research on Google and found this place! We were soooooo anticipating a true Socal taco experience and we were not disappointed!! Right from the start our hostess was sooooooo nice. She sensed our out-of-towness and walked us through her menu. Everything looked delicious..... so we ordered one of everything (almost) ;). We waited in anticipation and when they arrived we dove right in...... and they were amazing!!!! My family and I recommend BALAM any day and everyday!!!! Thank you BALAM for a true taco experience!!!!!
Menudo it’s the best!!with hand made tortillas💕. Aguas Frescas are very tasty and real fruit. The patio outside very fresh and clean. Just need a little bit of music for the background.
Great food. Specially the people. I'm not gonna lie the front of the place looks a little rought but everything else is on point. Highly recommended.
Absolutely creative! The vegetarian & fish options are unique and keep you coming back for more. A bit far from home but worth the trip every time. I don’t know why there isn’t a line out the door...
Everytime I am in this area I have to stop by!! Tacos have mouth watering flavors and sauces. Kbbq, Mole, vegetarian options,.. and the drinks made in house are amazing. My favorite is the cucumber mint, so refreshing. Definitely a must try for LA.
Very interesting and unique menu. Almost have to try a little of everything. Portions could be a little more generous, but the quality is there. Hip vibe to the place. Usually not packed, but always a couple other groups eating there.
Chendo the owner is really professional, he gives us such a good vibe. I went over the weekend and I belive his name was Luis? The guy in the front, he has such a good attitude and he was so nice, Chendo really knows how to hire his workers!! The food? AMAZING Best tacos ever!
If you crave something different from King Taco or Tacos Gavilan come here! Great creative and tasty food for the right price. I recommend the barbacoa tacos, but in all honesty, everything is good. It's a tasting experience.
Great food!!! They've taken Abuelita's recipe and added even more flavor to it if you can imagine that, if you can't then you need to go visit this place. We will definitely add this place into our rotation, the neighborhood is definitely a bit little rough but hey where is there a safe place today
I like the place, the tacos look amazing I order three different choices , so far really good I like them . I really recommended this place it took 10 minutes since I got in to have my tacos on the table!! Nice!!
Unique, delicious and made from scratch fusion tacos that are out of this world amazing. They come in various tortillas depending on the filling. Blue corn, yellow corn, white corn and even a hibiscus infused slice of Jicama used as a tortilla. All made by hand right as you order. And, they sell beer as well!
The menu is unique and colorful and above all DELICIOUS!!! Micheladas are tasty and the whole bottom row of tacos on the menu are unlike any other I have had. It was a complete pleasure to have experienced the hospitality of Balam.
When I worked for Compton Unified School District, I used to take my staff here for Taco 🌮 Tuesday.... We ALWAYS had a great time 😊 The chef would let me try the latest hot sauce 🔥 The Best Tortilla Maker In The World Was In The Back 😋 She added a little wisdom to our lives with each visit and the staff was like FAMILY 🙏🏽 I will definitely have to visit soon ~ I really miss this fantastic restaurant 😍
The tacos here are very tasty! I recommend for anyone who wants a taco and break from the traditional meat, have them from here. The Keek En taco, Rajas, La Paz, Tropical T, So Pork are so delicious with lots of flavor!
Balam tacos really hits the spot! I used to work around the corner and would typically come 1x a week. Staff is really nice. My favorite meat is def the cochinita pibil. I’m a creature of habit so always got that but honorable mentions include the Tropical T, Korean asada, and huitlacoche. Stop by and try it out. Taco Tuesday special, Wednesday burrito special, and Thursday bowl special. Micheladas on point too!
Amazing mushroom tacos! The fish tacos are also really good but the mushroom tacos blew me away!! I'm not sure what they do to add so much flavor to shiitake, but they do it right here.
This place is a hidden gem! The tacos are amazing! I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life and have never tasted tacos like these before. The owner is also very friendly as well as all the staff. Parking is a bit limited but well worth it! 5/5
My experience going to this Mexican kitchen was pretty good, the tortillas were made by hand, the micheladas are very refreshing! More of a spot to bring your friends or hang out by yourself! A nice spot to get some lunch. A bit pricey but worth it for some great food.
Balam Mexican restaurant My dad, brother, and I caught the 105 on way to chino from LAX. Luckily, our flight landed right on time for evening rush hour. Hungry, we started looking for places to eat right off the freeway — somewhere to pass the time while rush hour passed. We took a chance on Balam. The vibe was cool. Not too familiar with Lynwood, but the area looked rough. The patio was surrounded by trees and leaves and isolated us from the corner it was on. The restaurant felt very homey and the bathrooms were clean. Service was excellent. The sweet lady behind the counter was actually the owner of the place. She brought us nachos covered in her own chipotle sauce while we waited for our burritos to come out. I got the barbacoa burrito — tender braised beef, with rice, beans, sauces all wrapped in a freshly toasted tortilla. Would recommend. My brother got the tropical T. The kid doesn’t even like most foods… in his own words, “this is probably the best burrito I’ve ever had”. My dad got the masala chicken burrito. He’s Indian and concurred the flavor was exactly what to expect. All in all, Balam was a very pleasant surprise. Not quite sure when I’ll go again as it happened to be a random stop, but I would 100% recommend to anyone in the area looking for a nice warm meal. Just simple, great food. A hidden gem. Sammy score: 9/10
Finally stopped at Balam. Wish I had not waited so long. Had the Korean asada burrito, it was delicious. I love when Roy Choi did the fusion between Korean & Mexican food. But now I don't have to drive so far, its practically in my back yard. It was so good, I'm going back today.
Love this spot! Came here after a long bike ride and got tacos, chips and a beer. Great flavors, great prices, amazing proportions. Will be back and often- they even have a vegetarian and vegan option
Super friendly and helpful! Food is absolutely delicious and satisfying. This isn't a place for you to stuff your face however you'll feel great after eating. And the location is super clean and trendy. My only complaint is that they are not more in LA area! I need a location closer to me! Superb!
The food is consistently fresh and tasty. My favorite drinks are the Aguas Frescos which can change daily. Tuesdays tacos are a quarter off and Wednesdays burritos are $5.50. The place is clean inside and out. The bathroom is stocked and maintained. Inside is air conditioning, outside is a nice patio and they have a small parking lot in back.
This is a hidden gem. I wouldn't have expected to find this in its current location, I would expect finding this place in the Westside. The pricing is very reasonable, skip other taco places and go here, it's worth it. The tacos are not your usual style. They have variations to fit many tastes. This is a must try and my new to go place for tacos. Parking is limited, Carpool.
First time here and I must say it's great. I ordered the menudo and I was surprised it wasn't a mixture of posole and menudo and the taste was better than others I've had in the area. My wife ordered 3 tacos and all three looked delicious. Knowing she's not much of a taco person and seeing all three disappear was a good sign of great taste. Will definitely be back.
Love their variety. I like the mushroom burrito and the fish or shrimp tacos. They also have little community events every now and then. I hope they continue to thrive,
The chilaquiles rojos are delicious 10/10
They have such a non traditional variety of tacos. It was love at first bite. The decor is nothing fancy but it's just sturdy and clean enough to sit and enjoy these tacos. I had the shrimp taco and both the asada and barbacoa tacos. Definitely worth the trip. And the horchata is bomb too. Will definitely be returning to try the vegetarian tacos as well.
A friend and I had a wonderful time tasting all their tacos yesterday. The flavor of each was very distinctive and tasty. Recommending to others and definitely going back ourselves.
Pozole tasted just like a grandma's recipe. My son had a carnitas quesadilla and he loved it .
Let’s be honest here, when it comes to finding good food within a couple of miles of this location, you won’t find anything better than mediocre food spots. Your list of options are extremely narrow which is all the more reason why Balam feels like such in a gem in a part of SoCal where fast-food chains and mediocre Mexican food can be found everywhere. The food is not only beautiful in presentation, but also to-the-point delicious AND healthy at the same time.
I live on the east coast where the Mexican food can be a bit lacking. Getting a nice plate of tacos or burritos is the first think I do when I visit California. I went to Balam right after arriving in LA, and it did not disappoint! The portions were large, the food was fresh, and the hot sauces (which seemed homemade) were the star of the show! Service was awesome too. I loved the little outdoor courtyard and the festive music.
If you are looking to have Mexican food, try this place! The tortillas are made fresh. The combination of the cabbage, meat of your choice, and chipotle sauce is great. The food isn't spicy . I don't live in Lynwood anymore but excited for this little spot to make its mark. Off the 105 fwy exit Long Beach! It is a fusion of flavors❣️
Had the breakfast burrito w Korean asada today, it was delicious! I would give the food a 9/10. The only missing piece was the size of the burrito. Aside from that, this place rules. Really wonderful staff and great environment! Need to come back soon:)
Went here as the menu looked really interesting. Everything was great! Definitely a hidden gem in Lynwood. Went during the heat wave so the dining room was hot but the outdoor seating was more tolerable. Shaded and much cooler. Simply put, I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good food. There's something for everyone. I plan to take everyone I know here!
Amazing diverse menu. Very unique especially to the area. Lots of colorful, diverse fresh delicious items especially the tacos which I think is their speciality. If you're from Compton , LA, Long Beach area this is a must try. You will love it.
I've ate Balam a few times and it never dissapoints. I have tried their tacos, bowls and menudo. Their agua de limon and chia is so delicious. The place is always so chill and service is always friendly!
Tacos were amazing, service is great, and they have a local coffee pop-up on the patio! Not a lot of indoor seating but the outdoor seating has fantastic ambiance
Randomly decided to stop in for food while my car was getting serviced. I looked up places near me and the pics and reviews won me. I'm glad I stepped in here it's a cute little gem the ladies were sweet that took my order. These are not regular basic street tacos so don't expect street taco prices.....with that being said I personally think it's worth a revisit. I had the Barbacoa bowl and their Agua de guava were both super delicious.
The tacos are a must try, with their hand made Tortillas! The ladies are awesome, always cheerful, kind, and friendly. The outside patio is lovely, and the place has a nice and relaxing vibe. I highly recommend it! :)
Well thought out flavor profiles across the menu, salsa to die for, and even the rims are salted for your mineragua. Mexico meets LA in the funnest way possible. The owner is absolutely lovely and attentive to his customers needs.
1st time here on a Sunday afternoon! Posole bomb! Agua de Pepino delish! The salsita picante how I like it !! Taco governador was aight!! There was abt a 25mins wait, but worth it!
I've been coming here for some time and have been lagging it on a review. Well, this spot is definitely a gem serving great authentic Mexican food. I went for a quick bite, grabbed a horchata, 2 Korean asada tacos, 1 al pastor, 1 chicken tinga, and 1 Barbacoa taco. Horchata is on the sweet side, but it is damn good. From least to best, barbacoa was my least favorite, but it's because I hardly ever have it. Slow braised beef, pickled onion, and cilantro. Regardless, it was juicy, cilantro, and pickled onions, give it a great flavor al throughout, I added some lime and fuego. Al pastor taco consists of marinated pork loin, white onions, pastor sauce, and cilantro. Everything in this taco was on point. Meat was juicy, onions, and cilantro give that vibrant taste. Pastor sauce gives extra pastor flavor. Pineapple would be the best, but still great taco. Chicken Tinga Taco has pulled chicken breast, chipotle sauce, cilantro, and pickled onions. I love me some tinga, and this taco doesn't disappoint flavorful chicken in Chipotle sauce, gives you kicks of spiciness to your mouth, cilantro and pickled onions battle it out for control of flavor but everything goes so well and balanced together, love it. My favorite is Korean Asada Taco, marinated sliced beef, slaw, and chipotle sauce. This taco is so fire 🔥 it is a Mexican Asian fusion that will blow your mind. The marinated beef has a slight sweet ginger flavor that gives those Asian vibes and goes well with the slaw, then you get the chipotle to kick it up some spice, pairing heat with sweet you won't want it to end. Great menu, clean restaurant, and fast service. Definitely recommend it. I will keep coming back. 5 stars, hands down🤚
We was so glad to find this little gem for some authentic Mexican food and we was not disappointed. The food came out in good time and came out hot too. The food was full of flavour and generous portions too. If I lived in LA I’d always be eating out at this place but I advise you, if your passing through, stop here and try what you can while your here.
Wow! What an incredible meal!!! Absolutely worth the drive from … wherever you are!! I got the coconut shrimp taco, the baja fish taco and those were some of the most unique, detailed, just spectacular tacos I’ve had. Such a wonderful ambience (plants everywhere!) and bright menu. Boyfriend got the pork burrito and said it’s the best burrito he’s ever had. Will absolutely be back!! 💗💗
Food here is really delicious, they have some unique tacos you have to try, burritosate always stuffed & they also have a barista making best tasting coffee in lynwood/Los Angeles And the micheladas here are flavorful. You won't want to skip on trying one...
My family loves this place and I come here every time I'm home. Tacos al pastor are my favorite but I've never had a bad meal here. Anything you order will be delicious. Plus I love their patio.
I'll be the latest person to call BALAM a gem! I've been impressed by the quality of food and friendliness of service each time I've stopped by over the past year or so. Whether it's the great fusion menu (all available as tacos, burritos, bowls, etc.) or the daily specials (the pozole verde really hit the spot on a rainy day), you can't go wrong. Make sure to bring cash for a tip!
Omg, this is one of those small, amazing restaurants 😍 that you have to check out. My friend dragged me here and was so happy she did that she did the food was amazing. We had 7 different tacos, each with amazing ingredients and flavors. If you are in the area, you must stop by this place will not disappoint.
The best tacos I have ever had! I do mean ever!! Try the Korean Asada or the Tropical T. Everything form Tacos, quesadillas, or burritos, you can't go wrong.. Don't forget to grab a Large cup of their homemade Horchata.
Oh man, I’m glad I decided to stop by on my way home. If you are open minded and love combination of flavors, I would stop by. I got two Korean asada tacos One chicken masala taco And one fish taco My tastebuds went crazy with all those flavors. the atmosphere is lovely and reminds me of a botanic garden 😌 Ima have to come back to enjoy a beer! They also have they’re own specious parking lot. Thank you for the Excellent customer service Paola 10 stars Going home happy
Very friendly staff and helpful if you're unsure what to try. I ordered Pastor and La Paz tacos, which is a battered fish taco. By far, the best taco place I've been to. Their tortillas vary depending on the taco you get. It's colorful and delicious. I hear it gets crowded, but we went around 12 noon and it was not crowded. I recommend to anyone to try it out!
I came to Balam on a Friday night to support local clothing lines & artist. That same Friday was lent Friday so I couldn't eat any type of meat! Luckily Balam had alot of other options & I went with this awesome mushroom taco. I don't know the exact name of the taco but it was delicious & packed with flavor. The horchata here is awesome too! Sadly I forgot to snap a pic

Breakfast burrito was very good... Different from the ordinary flavors you expect but had everything and a little extra... I got a carne asada breakfast burrito didn't add or take anything off and I will definitely go back... Everything was fresh and the salsa was very flavorful... Overall 8.5 outta 10... Worth trying and I'm going to go back and explore the menu...
Cool spot, great food. It’s traditional mexican with a slight modern and Asian fusion spin. Not all out fusion or modern but just enough to make it unique. I can see some people not liking it as much if they want just fully traditional flavors but I thought it was excellent. Service was great and the spot is cool. Extra points for offering something dope in the neighborhood.
Had a big order in the morning got it done in a matter of time 14burritos.. pulled up with my school bus plenty of parking! Very very delicious burritos! Friendly staff!
I highly recommend this place for their pozole verde and the barbacoa taco in a homemade tortilla. Very nice atmosphere and is clean.
This small spot makes some of the best tacos I’ve had in South LA. The tortillas are homemade, and the al pastor has the perfect amount of spice. The staff is really welcoming and takes time to explain the menu. It’s a small dining area, so it fills up quickly. Prices are fair, and the portions are generous

Great food! Love the taco selection they have here, nothing around the area that is similar. The staff are friendly and willing to help new comers on selecting off the menu.
great customer service. free parking. tacos were about 3.00 each and are small. They offer very unique variety of tacos with amazing flavors . people complain about prices, businesses have high rent, wages, food, electricity among other things to pay for. i would definitely recommend this place and will definitely go back.
We were told about this little gem by a friend. And it’s literally around the corner from home! Green Pozole de pollo was great! We also had the quesadilla de Mole. That thing was loaded. The michi was also good. The rim had a mango tajin combo going on.

Second time eating here and last time was a few months after they first opened. Tacos are still really good just a little overpriced for the size. Favorite one is la Paz fish taco on a purple tortilla. I like the 2 new added tacos which are the gobernador and the birria cheese. Michelada was ok. The coffee stand is unique and I like their selections. Staff were all great. Will try their menudo next time.

Came here with high hopes. Unfortunately only 1 vegan option which was the rajas taco. To be honest, it had a weird taste and it wasn't very good. My son liked their korean beef quesadilla but the coconut shrimp with jicama tortilla was a no thanks. Lots of hype, lots of great reviews but I left this place hungry and disappointed. Oh wel...
Definitely not your typical Mexican tacos. Staff was good, tacos are $3. Other than the tortillas being handmade, i dont think you get what you pay for. The best part was the cucumber & mint water.
This place has a very nice outside dinning area. Kinda has a romantic ambiance about it. Prices are really high at Balam and portions of their food are small. I ordered one Pastor Pork Taco for $4.50. It was very tasty but three bites and I ate it all. I recommend Balam because the food is delicious. I gave three stars because of the high prices for their food.
I like their concept but and the simple Latin decor especially the traditional sink in the bathroom. but I wish the Korean taco meat and taste resemble more to bulgogi meat. Also, I thought the tacos were too small. I usually get full with two tacos but this place left me wanting more. They accept ATM, and it may seem close but I they're open.
Truth is they deserve 5 Stars! The Food was very good to my Taste but I was slightly disappointed with the prices which i think are a little high than again if your food is good does the price matter? I haven't answered that question myself yet.
I phoned in an order to be delivered to an office party we were having the following day. An hour later, we learned that two employees would not be attending - so I called again and reduced the size of the order. The amount went from $160 to $99. The following day, the delivery time arrived. I waited 20 minutes past this time, and (worried that they had forgotten) called to inquire about where the food was. They said it was on its way, and 20 minutes later the food arrived. When the delivery guys got here, they wanted $160. Based on the (small) amount of food being delivered - I took a look and, yes, the smaller sized ($99) order was here. When I told the delivery guys that they were asking for the original $160, but the order had been changed to $99 - and the food present indicated this - they acted like we were trying to rip them off. They threatened to take the food back, and were giving us dirty looks. I called the business and spoke to the manager. He, too, acted (at first) like we were trying to rip them off. I suggested that I tell him exactly what had been delivered - told him to add the price up - and (before he did this) told him that the total should equal $99 (indicating I am correct). We did this and, sure enough, the order totaled exactly $99. At this point, he believed me. The delivery guys talked to the manager, and they left the food. The delivery guys were still giving us an "attitude" even though it was their business which had made this mistake - like it was our fault. Anyway, the amount of food was small. For the money, there should have been about (at least) 50% more. It certainly didn't "look" like $99 worth of food. Now, the food itself was very tasty. The meat was a little bit on the dry side, but the sauces and rice were excellent. The horchata was pretty good - although it seemed "watered down". I was going to give a 2 star review based upon their mistake, combined with the "attitude" we received from the delivery guys. However, I had to drop it to a ONE STAR review. Why the deduction from 2 stars to 1 star? Well, by the end of the next day both my wife and I got very sick with stomach issues. When we returned to work the following Monday, we asked the other staff members if they had gotten sick over the weekend. Every one of them said, "Yes". This is too much of a coincidence for it not to be caused by the food. Based on the order mixup, small portion for the money, very rude delivery experience, and what appears to be food poisoning - we will not be supporting this business again. Eat here at your own risk, but don't blame me if you get sick. ONE STAR.
Slow service and wasn’t busy. Forgot my drink and had to remind multiple times. Worse burrito I have ever had. Way too much rice and cabbage and extremely low amount of meat. Not worth the price. Heard the tacos were good though. Never going back and I do not recommend.
I'm a true Mexican-foodie but this joint was something else. I thought that by being ''gourmet'' meant it was above standards! To my surprise it didn't meet expectations even though there were over ten burritos ordered for a company eaterie. Most of us were not satisfied and the burritos were not on point taste-wise. Too sweet for my Korean beef and my gf pork burrito was so sweet as well. It might hit someone else's taste buds on point but just not ours.
The tacos are not worth the price! I would definitely not recommend this place. Tacos were too small, salty and over priced. They welcome you with chips and a spoon full of salsa. Which was good and the portion was not even for one person. We were a party of 4. First and last time eating here. The plates were chipped and smelled like they weren't washed correctly.
Bad service and they sell you an incomplete order not caring if they’re out of Ingredients!! I ordered the coconut tacos which is supposed to come with mango pico de gallo n it didn’t! The lady still took my order knowing they had no mangos. The food wasn’t as described in the menu . She didn’t care to let me know they were out. I after I got my food and realized it didn’t have any I brought it up to her attention . I asked so did you guys run out of mangos or forget them on my order ? she just chuckled n said yea we had ran out already . I left unsatisfied and with a bad taste in my mouth Why still sell the food not complete and take the customers money like that ! And the agua Fresca didn’t come with ice I had to ask her for ice
Bought a burrito and told her that something in the burrito was rotten did not exchange it or return the money. The lady and staff at the front told me all her food was fine and still told me to eat it like that.
