This was such a cool experience! The food and wine were delicious and creative! We were impressed they make their own wine in house as well. We’ve enjoyed many chef’s dinners over the years, and tried 3-4 new things we had never had before at this dinner. The service was fantastic and the owners came by later in the meal to greet us and check in. We will definitely come back!
The reviews were so mixed we were skeptical but so glad we went! The man who was complaining about to big of portions... thats personal preference. The sizes were not to big or to small and were brought out at good intervals. I was full after the 3rd (for the 4course friday) which is the goal right? Still had room for dessert! It was all so yummy!! The owners come down at the start after our drink order also to greet us, very nice. Though we did think they were just a couple headed to their seat at 1st...
We did the Saturday 8 course with wine pairing. We were met at the elevator to go down by a staff member who gave us a brief history of the cavern and how it was found. Right after we were seated the owner stopped by to greet and welcome us for our dinner. He was extremely friendly and happy to talk about the renovation process and his wine stock. We had an incredible evening consisting of amazing dishes, wonderfully paired wines, and servers who took great pride in their job! We look forward to going back again! Immaculate restaurant with an incredible staff!
We held our annual holiday company party at Prohibition at the Caverns last night and everything was incredible - food, beverages, wine, service and atmosphere. Our staff loved the ambiance of the caverns 29 feet underground. Highly recommend for a date night, unique weekend dinner or corporate event!
Wonderful treat for an experience meal! The vibe is very speak-easy with an upscale twist. Enjoy the elevator ride to your destination below main level. Step out and you are in the “cavern” . Take a tour and check out the house made wine cellar. Once seated, our servers, Jamie, Missy & Isaac, were very knowledgeable and consistently catered to our every ask. We went for the Friday evening 4 course Culinary experience with in house wine pairings. Every detail is attended to including personalized seasonal menus. Choose one selection from each of the thoughtfully designed & prepared courses. We ordered: First Beef Tartare – nicely chilled and tender. Lobster Roll – chunky and creamy. Second Lobster Bisque Tangelo Salad – citrusy balanced by balsamic dressing Third Filet Mignon – rare and juicy Scallop – tender and nicely crisp on top Fourth Lemon Blueberry Buckle Peanut Butter Chocolate Mousse Finished with turkish coffee. The food was delicious and while not “platefuls”, we left Prohibition completely satiated. The wine pairings were on point but would like to have been able to swap out the wines during that course. The caverns can be damp and cool so a sweater may be in order. Keep in mind that the stone walls reverberate so can be a little louder when the room is full. Bathrooms are on the main level. We will be back again to try another of the delicious seasonal menus!
The Prohibition At The Caverns was a unique, classy, phenomenal experience like no other. The food presentation was stellar, above expectations. The staff had a passion and enthusiasm for their patrons. We felt like we we were important to them. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate. The owner was gracious to visit with us and chat for a bit. I strongly recommend that you add the pairings to your menu. We drove 2.5 hours to try this experience and were 110% pleased. We took another couple with us and they enjoyed it just the same. We are already planning another visit and bringing more people!
We chose the Friday night four-course menu. The food, service, and atmosphere were all unique and excellent. Also, the owners stopped by at each table to chat with guests. Each of us had 3 choices for first through 4th course--we didn't have to eat the same thing. There were 2 choices for dessert. I'm a gourmet foodie, and each course was delicious and different from standard fare. The lobster roll appetizer was to die for. For our third course, I had the Quadratti (which had crab and pasta), and Dave had Filet Mignon. Of the desserts, the Mille Fuille was my favorite--phyllo dough, lemon and strawberry curd with spided cream, pistachios and a dsih of port or bourbon. The caverns provided a unique but cozy atmosphere. The two men in our party chose the wine pairings and we women sampled theirs. We all felt the wine pairings were well-chosen. A 20% gratuity was added to the bill, though we probably would have tipped that amount anyway. From the Columbus area, it was worth the trip to Mansfield. (Dave and I dressed in costume--not sure we were historically correct, but it was fun!)
Amazing experience! Starting with the service - The servers were all so kind and attentive. The food was awesome. Very creative and delicious, truly a special experience. The ambience and atmosphere are unmatched, the cavern is a beautiful and unique place. Easily worth the cost, looking forward to my return!!
Such an awesome experience. Came here with my wife for our anniversary and everything was perfect. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful. Despite being underground it was very comfortable and such a neat environment. The food was unique and delicious. Expect to spend about 3 hours for your 8 course dinner, which was wonderful for my wife and me. Will definitely come back.
Beyond expectations!!! The Owner, Rick, came to each other and talked to each one of us. The hidden gem in Mansfield. The food were spectacular with the wine pairing! The food and predentation were as impressive as the restaurant on the top of the Eiffel tower. Our waitress, Jamie was lovely. Must see place in Ohio.
Absolutely PHENOMENAL experience! One of the best meals I've had anywhere in the country. Jamie (our server) was an incredible person, explaining everything in great detail and answering all of our questions about the caverns. Thanks again and we will definitely be back!
What a great hidden gem. Great experience, great food and something completely different from anything else.
We made reservations for after our wedding. This place didn’t disappoint. First off, the personal menu with our names on them was great. The food was amazing, the duck was killer. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will be coming back for future anniversaries.
The atmosphere was amazing and the food was delicious. We loved the experience!
Absolutely wonderful experience. Perfect for date night. Light bites, 8 course meal and phenomenal service.
You have to try it at least once for the unique dining experience and the wonderful ambiance. Highly recommend!
Absolutely AMAZING experience!!!! A hidden gem the caverns food and service were great!!! The owners were so SWEET a must try! Can’t wait to go back!
Such a neat experience, rich history and unique fine dining.
We went there for Valentine's Day. Eight course dinner. Fabulous experience. If you're a foodie this must for you. Very unique dining experience. They offer other experiences that are not so expensive like a movie night. Check them out.
I highly recommend dining at Prohibition! Everyone should experience this at least once in their lifetime! I celebrated my birthday by dining here. It was nothing short of amazing, all the way through! From our excellent host and our attentive server, to the atmosphere (so unique and special to 'feel' the history of this venue!), and of course -- the food! Everything I tasted was delicious and a joy to savor and experience! The wine/beverage pairings were spot on and complemented each course! And they even sent me home with a birthday gift!
What an amazing experience!! Truly the best dinner any of the 4 of us has ever had. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is super unique and the couple who owns this place are seriously the cutest, warmest, coolest couple you'll ever meet. Thank you so much for having us and helping us to celebrate a dear friend's birthday! It's one we'll definitely never forget!
Absolutely best fine dining establishment in the area. If you love wine-pairing and a chef's tasting menu in a unique ambiance, this is the place for you. 10 out of 10!!¡
My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here last night. Wow!!!!! It was incredible. The place was amazing, the food was top notch, the staff was awesome and the environment was unique. I cant say enough wonderful things about this experience!!!!!!
Lovely and unique dinner which was delicious. I was able to try many things I would not usually order at a restaurant. Every course was beautifully presented. Great service as well. I would recommend it for a special occasion.
Was my second time there everything was amazing, our server was perfect, I did do the four course this time. I do recommend if you’re going to the eight course.
Great place for a different experience. Worth the time and expense. Highly recommend.
The food was very good though pricey. The only ding I would say was the size of the lone crab cake for $20.
Just ate here for our 7 year anniversary and it was AMAZING. Great food, atmosphere, and service.
Very good slot machines
Great environment enjoyed the food. The environment felt very nice cozy and lovely. The taste of wine selection was great especially paired with the right meal was great. The people who were serving were warm and kind . I recommend anyone to try this out. Hello and thanks- guy from Maryland!
We went for a movie night and had a blast. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were perfect. The staff was friendly and fast. It was well worth the price.
Some of the best food I've ever had, and the atmosphere is totally amazing and unique. Its a whole experience. Highly recommend coming here. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for and its worth every penny.
I brought my fiancé here for his birthday and I couldn’t have made a better choice. The staff was incredibly kind and made each and every guest feel special. Immaculate service. The food was more than just food it was all very creative, delicious and told a story. The ambience was very romantic. WE WILL BE BACK 10/10.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Prohibition at the Caverns, and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The ambiance was absolutely stunning—elegant, atmospheric, and thoughtfully curated to complement the unique setting. Two standout dishes truly elevated the evening: the miso sea bass, which was perfectly cooked and rich in flavor, and the sheep blend sausage, which was both inventive and delicious. These dishes showcased the kitchen’s creativity and skill. However, there were a few aspects that detracted from the experience: --As we were arriving and attempting to take our seats, two individuals—presumably the owners—approached our table to engage in conversation. While their intentions may have been warm, they never formally introduced themselves, which made the interaction feel a bit awkward. A moment to settle in before being approached would have been appreciated. --While I’m accustomed to European-style multi-course meals, the portion sizes for this 8-course dinner were surprisingly large. This sentiment was echoed by others at our table and nearby patrons. For a tasting menu, smaller, more refined portions would not only enhance the dining experience but also align better with the pacing and elegance of the setting. Adjusting portion sizes—and perhaps pricing accordingly—could improve both the guest experience and the restaurant’s appeal, especially considering the 7 PM seating was not full. --One final note: we were offered the opportunity to purchase bottles of the wines we enjoyed during dinner, which was a nice touch. However, I was surprised to see a 20% gratuity added to the take-home wine bottles. While I fully support a compulsory tip for the dinner service, applying the same to retail wine purchases feels questionable and left a sour note at the end of the evening. While I genuinely enjoyed my time and appreciated the culinary highlights, I would likely not return due to the overwhelming portion sizes and the questionable tipping practice on take-home wine. With a few thoughtful adjustments, this could be a truly exceptional dining destination.
We had my husband’s birthday dinner here this year and it was great! We live about two hours away so it has taken us some time to make it to the restaurant but we are happy we did! We went for the 8 course dinner on Saturdays. The service was unmatched! Before our reservation I reached out over a few of the dishes having mint in them, as my husband cannot/will not eat it. They were amazingly accommodating. I will say the general service was great as well; the servers explained everything to us and made it an easygoing, relaxed atmosphere. We really appreciated that, we’d never been before and sometimes places this nice can make you feel out of place or stuffy, but not the case here. Not to mention that you are dining underground! It’s definitely an experience! We had a really nice time. The food was very good! The first course was my favorite and it was the cheese crackers and jam! I could’ve had a plate of their homemade crackers and been satisfied! Each plate was brought out in a nice amount of time; we were told about the dish and its contents. There was always a nice amount of food as well, you weren’t going to leave hungry! They also provided takeout boxes if you wanted them, which I’ve never seen before but it was such a great idea! The desserts were all great. I have a sweet tooth, so I always look forward to desserts the most. They didn’t disappoint! At the end of the dinner they gave everyone a small going away treat- a tiny carrot cake cupcake. My husband was also given a small gift as well for his birthday. It’s truly special how much effort and personalization was put into the whole process; from omitting certain ingredients, to personalized menus that said happy birthday, to the gift. This was a great place to go to celebrate a special occasion. We both had a good time, and will be back to see them again I’m sure.
The staff was attentive and friendly! The food was good, lots of presentation value, but the real appeal is the atmosphere. If you are seated next to the wall, you will hear every table's conversation.
First of all, really cool venue, with a really cool ambiance. 1920s feel. The service was excellent. The food was very good.I would plot this against many places in downtown Cleveland. Between my wife and I, there were no courses that we did not both enjoy. As their website states, it is a little chilly down there. As my wife states, girls skip the skirts. It's also a little noisy and easy to hear conversations at adjacent tables. But look at the pictures, it's a rock cave underground people. Time for the bad news, skip the wine pairing. Although the grapes are not from ohio, which is a good thing, they are young tasting, which is to say acidic, astringent, and inappropriately fruity with little to no body. Sorry. Also, the price is approximately thirty percent higher than I would expect to pay at a similar food quality experience in columbus or cleveland. Maybe you are paying for the venue, and maybe you should take that into consideration? your perogative. All this said, I would still say that this place is entirely worth going to and entirely worth a two hour trip if you combine it with a visit to the historic prison nearby.
Absolutely fantastic establishment. Top notch service, food, and atmosphere. Ignore any review that says otherwise. Their negative experience is internal projection upon the external world in which they exist. 100% recommend this experience for those looking to fill their cup of life.
Great occasional dining. House made wine was fantastic but the house made bourbon wasn't to my standard. One recommendation, would appreciate a different dessert spoon vs reusing the dinner spoon at this price point.
Very cool venue, and the service was fantastic. I would suggest investing in some sound absorption due to the shape of the space. We could hear every conversation of adjoining tables as if they were sitting right at our table. There was a guest sitting about 20 feet away, and his voice was projecting into my right ear the entire night due to the tunnel effect. While this is cool from a certain perspective, not appropriate for an evening dinner experience imo. Having experienced several tasting menus, I would also say the price point is not justified for the quality of food here. Decisions were made that I just did not understand as an amateur home cook. I can appreciate that the food being transported underground may not lend itself to this, but it was apparent to me some dishes were reheated or prepared well in advance and tasted like it too. For example, the fritter in my "soft underbelly" was actually quite tough and barely warm. The size of pork belly accompanying the dish was just confusing especially considering this is a relatively inexpensive ingredient. Some things like the cured salmon do indeed need to be prepped well ahead, but even the tiny amount we received was not cut appropriately, so the salt had made it hard and rubbery which made this one of the more unpleasant aspects of the meal, both taste and texture wise. On the other hand, some dishes like the duck were very good, and we thought the quality of wine was above average. Lastly, I thought it was strange that the silverware and wine glasses were not replaced for each tasting as this is typical for similar experiences. The only way this detracted was due to the wines being unfiltered, so I needed to request a new glass after one of the wines had left a considerable amount of sediment in my glass. Overall, the space is impressive and fun, but the food let us down a bit based on our impression from pricing. As a note to future guests, the price of your meal and gratuity must be paid in full in advance of your reservation.
So it was really cool! The experience and the history is just awesome. The food was just ok nothing was OMG I can't believe how good this is the lamb I don't feel was cooked as it could have been ... The wine and the course timing was off... And it was my birthday and my name was misspelled on my menu.... My last name is Jones
The food was just ok. The first course my potato was burnt and my filet was raw when I asked for MR but never did a server come by to ask how the food was. The only course that was decent was desert. For four courses the portions were crazy small. It’s also interesting that they added a tip to the two to go bottles of wine.
My fiancé and I looked forward to our reservation a month in advance, and we were so excited to have a unique experience to celebrate his birthday. We booked a Friday night 4-course dinner. While the setting was definitely unique, the quality of the food for the price point was definitely disappointing. To start, we waited about 45-50 minutes before we even received our first course. (Some live music would've done wonders to help with the waiting.) My fiancé ordered the beef tartare and only had 3 crackers to go with it. He had to finish the course with a spoon because there obviously weren't enough crackers. A waiter accidentally dropped a cracker on the floor and brought out a single cracker on a plate to replace it...Really? The best thing I ate that night were the pickled potatoes, my second course (because how do you mess up a potato, right?). For the third course, my fiancé ordered the elk burger and I had the eggplant parmesan buccatini. While his burger was hot and delicious, he wished it was larger, as it was only a little bigger than a slider. When my course arrived, I was a little confused by the Kraft Mac n cheese color, definitely not "blush" as described. The eggplant was not at all breaded as one would expect, and was buried on the bottom of the plate. My dish was also barely even warm. I glanced at a table near to us as a couple ordered the same dishes we did. The wife seemed disappointed with her pasta as well and gave it to her husband to finish. I noticed that each course for the entire room was brought down at the same time on a large round tray. Since each table receives their courses at the same time, and there's only one elevator, it's no wonder that my pasta was done first, and had gotten cool as the rest of the dishes were being prepared. I think a dumbwaiter, or serving a few tables at a time instead of the entire room at once, would definitely help this issue. Finally, dessert... We ordered the strawberry pretzel delight and the beef tallow chocolate cake. My fiancé was disappointed with his dessert and said "the best thing about this dish is the pretzel dust at the bottom." Regarding the chocolate cake, it tasted burnt and dry. The ice cream scoop on top was smaller than a scoop of butter I was served at Perkins. However, this was a blessing in disguise as the ice cream had to be the worst we had ever tasted. My fiancé is an ice cream connoisseur and was absolutely disgusted. When our check came, we were told to place it at the edge of the table when we were ready to pay. We did so, yet it was another 10 minutes before our check was taken. By then the room had just about emptied out and we still waited. Meanwhile, the 2 servers were bussing a couple tables and pouring water. We felt very ignored and anxious to leave. Before we left, we were given a little gift box containing some Ghirardelli chocolates (which we appreciated after our dessert disaster!) and a couple of Fortune cookies made by the chef. One was completely raw and inedible. I am so sad this was our experience. We had been looking forward to our date for a month. At least we took some nice pictures together all dressed up. Sadly, we will not be returning. Edit in reply to restaurant manager's response: I do not recall meeting you. I remember a greeter, as well as a couple who came to our table and interrupted our meal. But I was unsure to whom we were speaking with, as no introduction was given. Had we known we were speaking with the restaurant manager, perhaps we would have better expressed our concerns.
Beautiful seeing but the extremely expensive dinner was atrocious. Just awful. Also had to walk across the parking lot in a fight of stairs to get my wife a cocktail.
We were so looking forward to this dinner as we were celebrating Valentine's Day a week early. Sadly the quality of our food did not meet our expectations. our second course was lobster bisque soup that was very salty and difficult to eat, also had no real substance he seemed as though someone added water to obtain more volume. My wife, carrots with feta cheese were difficult to cut with a steak knife although it did have a nice flavor. The main course of scallops and risotto was equally disappointing. The scallops were undercooked really nothing special about them. The risotto was gooey and hard to understand what the chef was trying to accomplish with the combination of flavors. The desserts did not seem like they were homemade, they were partially frozen as though someone opened a box and set them on a plate, also, just simply lack flavor. Also, I found it strange that the wine glasses were not changed after each pairing. Although the atmosphere was certainly very interesting and intriguing The price point of the dinner as well as the quality of food was very disappointing.
Very strange reservation experience. I made a reservation for the movie event series, received a seating chart, and booked my seat. Then received a follow-up email stating to change to another date due to conflicting event on that night. Why make a reservation for a night that clearly has another event planned that has been actively advertised for a week? How can the head of events at your facility not know about upcoming events? It’s a very chaotic first experience with this establishment. Now I have zero interest in visiting. If you’re making reservations, triple check they know their own event schedule.
Just bc of the shear price of a single person it's listed at over 100
