It had been about 7 years since I have visited. The flavors are even better than I remember. Service as always exceptional. Tracy was our server and she was just sweet and amazing. The food was great, I don't eat pork or much beef so my attendance here made no sense but my son loved everything and it was his first time. Definitely something for everyone.
Super southern and feel like your in a family cook out setting. The staff is super friendly, loved Tracy our waitress. The food was super good and cooked slow. So Delicious, and they prices are amazing for the kind of meats served. Definitely worth the travel 🥰
With not many BBQ selections in Homestead, this location definitely stands out for its traditional American food category. This no frills restaurant with picnic style bench seating focuses on what they do best, consistent quality. I have been several times and the consistency stands out so you know what to expect. All the sides are incredible but I always get the collard greens and black eyed peas. Highly recommended for something outside all the Central American and Mexican selections.
This is my first time trying southern BBQ and grits. I was not disappointed. It was delicious! I ordered the 1/4 smoked chicken with cheese grits and pumpkin soufflé. My husband ordered BBQ chicken sandwich. My son ordered brisket. We all enjoyed our dinner. My chicken was moist and flavorful. My husband said his BBQ chicken was just the way he likes it. My son said his brisket was good. The atmosphere was fun and casual. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend.
Ordered to go and the to go waitress was so nice. Helped us decide what to order and gave us several sauces to try. I had the 1/4 chicken with mashed potatoes and hash brown casserole. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and slaw. We wanted to try the okra and some desserts too so we ordered salted caramel cheesecake and key lime pie. Everything we had was fantastic and we have some left for lunch tomorrow!
Shiver’s never lets us down! We know it’s not health food, but that’s not why we come. We stick with the beef dishes and they’re always full of flavor. My husband enjoyed the beef ribs without sauce so he could add just the right amount himself. Service is friendly, and even though it was Sunday we only waited about 10 minutes for a table. Great food, good atmosphere, and always worth the visit!
Happened upon this place after a long drive. Tired, hungry and hoping this would be something good, wow were we pleasantly surprised as it’s great! Stacked to the gills with people on a Saturday night the staff was busy. The food was awesome! I had the pulled chicken sandwich with fries and baked beans, my husband had the jumbo brisket sandwich with cole slaw and fries. We had planned to have key lime pie but couldn’t manage it. We ate everything on our plate (I rarely do this.) Full of local families it was a joy to eat here and we will certainly be back, note go early as the line was around the building when we left.
Delicious BBQ. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was really good. You get to put on your own bbq sauce so that was good. The pumpkin soufflé was amazing! It is a must get item (apparently it is seasonal). The hashbrown casserole was good and salad was plain but as expected for a salad.
It’s been a while since I’ve made my way down here. There was so much food and it was all delicious. Perfect bbq place to take with family or friends in the area.
1st time here as we were visiting the national park and wanted bbq. Cool place. Service was great and food hit the spot.
Everything was perfectly cooked and choices of sauce were great. Sweet tea was really sweet just like it should be and corn bread was unique and full of flavor.
Delicious bbq place. I recommend their brisket burnt ends, ribs, corn casserole and the cheesy harsh brown. Definitely coming back here. 100% delicious
So good Ribs and meat!! We drove from Miami for this and didn't disappoint at all. You can smell the BBQ from the parking miles away, the service is excellent and value for price. Highly recommend
We were down in Homestead and people I know that work down there all mentioned Shivers BBQ is the places to go for bbq. We had spare ribs, burnt tips (very soft and moist) and brisket (not as moist as I wanted), but their homemade sauces are good! Next time I go I will order the burnt tips.
I am from out of the area and ordered take out from here and I am glad I did. Food was amazing! Makes sense why this place has so many reviews and the place itself was packed. They are definitely doing something right here. I ordered the corn nuggets, beef brisket platter, which came with my choice of bbq beans, and cheesy hash brown casserole, and garlic toast. Everything I ate was perfect and everything I could ask for in a bbq establishment. The sauce was even great which makes or breaks a bbq chain for me. So Shiver’s overly passed my test. I am coming down to the area again soon and will definitely be back.
The Food is amazing!!!!! The portions are huge!!!! A very good BBQ joint too go to the prices are honestly worth every penny the first picture baby back ribs and brisket duo $19 and some change second pic I believe are either baby back or spare ribs with pulled pork and andouille sausage trio $18 we did order the burnt ends as a appetizer forgot too take a picture it was too good but they were $9 all in all Worth every penny
I’ve had a fare share of BBQ in my life but nothing like this!! The moment I pulled the bone out of the ribs as the meat slid out so gracefully, then took that first bite I knew it was GAME OVER. I knew that I had OFFICIALLY found Florida’s best BQQ spot. But to rewind a bit, the moment I arrived we were able to be seated in less than 10 min and beat the rush that came afterwards. Apparently they get slammed with people pretty regularly for a good reason. The staff was extremely friendly and just know that it is a family style bbq restaurant. So essentially the tables are all pretty much together, and it is to be shared with other parties. The only thing diving you from another family may be a bit of leg room and some paper towels. For starters we got the Corn Nuggets(little flavor missiles, fried to a perfect temperature), and a fried corn on the cob(honestly, I didn’t know this even existed! But so good). Then for the main dish I went with a full rack of baby back ribs and mannnnn. All I could say is stop reading this, get in your car, and go try it! -The Fashionable Foodie
The service is fast and the food is exceptional!!!! My partner and I drive 60 minutes at least once a month for their delicious beef bbq ribs and bbq brisket burnt ends. The side are delicious. I recommend the sweet potato soufflé, the collard greens, fries and cornbread casserole. They have plenty other selections also . They never disappoint. Your taste buds will have a party!!
Good food, friendly staff, clean restaurant. Definitely was a hefty portion of food for the price, I had the two meat combo with sausage and pulled pork. They have a variety of BBQ sauces, personally I can’t do super spicy things and I’m not a big fan of the vinegar based sauces either, however they did have multiple sauces that I liked myself, and even though I didn’t like all of them, I appreciate the selection. I definitely also appreciate the size of the sausage links, it seems so many places have little sausages and charge the same price for them, so larger sausage nicely proportioned to the other meat quantities is nice to see. And everything tasted great!
Full and satisfied! Definitely hit this spot for my nine year old son and he loved it. Ribs and burnt ends were delicious we could’ve definitely went spicier barbecue sauce, we like it hot. The cornbread soufflé was super delicious and the greens had massive flavor to. Can’t wait to go back!
Great local barbecue place. Everything we had was delicious, and the baby back ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender.
The only BBQ spot that hasn’t left me hungry or disappointed. Not only do I love the hospitality, you can pick absolutely anything off the menu and it will be delicious and filling. If it’s your first time, try the rib trio and you might even be able to share with your significant other if you’re not really hungry or eat a lot of food. Save space for dessert because they have those comfort food sweets. Overall, I recommend Shivers to anyone who likes BBQ that hasn’t heard about it. It’s always ridiculously consistent so you know you can count on them to bring back the memories of when you first went.
Shiver’s has been a local go to for BBQ since the 1950’s. I tried their pork trio - a mouth-watering array of pulled pork, baby backs, and spare ribs. Oh boy, those spare ribs were just off the charts, hands down my favorite. They've got a number of sauces, but if you ask me, the pepper sauce and the vinegar sauce really hit the spot - you've gotta try them. And the sides? So many to choose from, but do yourself a favor and go with the corn bread soufflé. It's so decadently good, it's almost dessert. Trust me, it's a real treat.
Cashier was so nice. She offered me BBQ sauce without me asking. It's the little things that matter. This was Saturday Jan 10 about 6:50pm. I ate the brisket the next day and 😋. I'll be back.
Casual dining. Don't go on weekends it gets super crowded. The best burnt ends and cheesy potatoes. Portions are small in comparison to places on krome avenue at a better price.
always consistent always delicious. i love the sides...my go to's are the black eyed peas, the cornbread souffle & greens, i have tried the jalapeño grits and cheesy hashbrowns as well but the aforementioned 3 are the best to me. my kids love the bbq chicken & smoked brisket kids meal the corn nuggets and fried green tomato are always a hit in oir family. the sampler platter is a good share size and a great classic. Shiver's is probably the best BBQ joint in South Florida and ALWAYS worth the drive and wait, the don't disappoint with flavor.
Shiver’s BBQ is the spot! 🔥 From the fall-off-the-bone ribs, the corn & sweet potato soufflés, to their legendary corn on the cob—everything is packed with flavor! But let’s talk dessert… that banana pudding with vanilla cookies? HEAVEN. My absolute fave! Big thanks to Mike and the amazing Susan, who always makes me feel like family. The vibe? Cozy, welcoming, and full of BBQ love. Travelers, locals, foodies you need to try this place! #ShiversBBQ
We have eaten here multiple times . The food is delicious!!! Friendly atmosphere. Picnic table style dining room . A little pricey, but worth it.
Great "family" vibes. Big, long tables that you can meet new people at.... you dont know who you will be sitting next to! Food is good, ambiance is nostalgic and service is wonderful!
I have been eating at this particular place since I was a kid, I understand it's been through a few different owners but the owner now seems to have put everything back in order where everything is good again, I stopped coming for a few years with the last ownership but I have enjoyed my meal my last past few visits Update 10-19-24 Super greasy pork sandwich and fries, I took pictures to post. This place used to be so good, I sure hope they can get it together. I did not enjoy my meal today.
Love this place!! The food is absolutely amazing and you get a ton of it! Betty was super friendly and helpful. When I told her I have Celiac, she immediately told me everything that I could have from the menu and even set aside one of the sauces and said I couldn't have that one but the rest were ok. It's not cheap there but you get a lot for the money. The atmosphere is casual and it's "family seating" meaning they have huge picnic style tables and you will be most likely sitting with people you don't know, but it's such a cool place nobody cares. We make a stop here every time we're in the Miami area.
Wow, what an experience. A Texan friend took us here as it is ‘the best BBQ in Florida’ and boy was he right! When you step out of your car the amazing smell hits you, you walk in the delicious smell intensified and a slight smoke in the air.... Sit down in semi communal style benches and the wait staff are fantastically attentive (especially Chris) Food is cooked fresh, and is cooked to perfection. The ribs are well seasoned and literally fall off of the bone. The brisket was succulent and tender. The cornbread soufflé is a must buy, an amazing texture and taste. Cannot wait to go back
Best authentic BBQ! Homemade sides so delicious you must try them all! Hidden gem worth trying!
First time and it will definitely not be our last. The food was tasty and fresh and the service was friendly and fast. Great little spot for some great barbecue.
Shivers in Homestead, FL is a hidden gem for BBQ enthusiasts. This small restaurant serves up exceptional, authentic BBQ that's worth the wait lines. The BBQ ribs are a standout, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The variety of sides they offer complements the main dishes, adding to the overall dining experience. While you might need to wait for a table due to the restaurant's size, the patience is rewarded with delicious food. The drive to Shivers is a bit out of the way, but it's definitely worth making the effort. What sets this place apart is not just the quality of the food but also the reasonable prices, a rare find these days. Whenever I'm in the mood for genuine BBQ, Shivers is my go-to spot. Highly recommended!
Even though we came in close to closing time, they still sat us and took our order and got our food out quickly. From the moment we sat down to the moment we got our food was probably 15 minutes, and let me tell you, this was some fire barbecue. All the staff was very friendly and sat us with a smile even though we were probably not appreciated for showing up close to closing time. Lol that’s 5 stars for service and atmosphere right there. The food was killer, can’t go wrong with the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, or burnt ends. Only reason I didn’t list the rest was because we didn’t order it. Definitely order a side of sweet potato soufflé, that was amazing. If you’re down in the homestead area, gotta get your Shiver’s
The last real BBQ restaurant left in the Homestead/South Dade area. I’ve been coming here for more than 30 years. It has never failed. Great meats, side dishes, and sauces. Comfort food at its best. Quality, quantity, and still affordable.
I’d known of the great reputation of this BBQ restaurant for years and gladly saw and tasted it for myself. The menu has a large variety of delectable dishes, combos, appetizers, salads, and side dishes. I chose a rack of baby back ribs with coleslaw and fries, which were all absolutely delicious. Their signature burnt tips were amazing, as were the BBQ sauces on the table, ranging from spicy to vinegary. The service was quite good, the place is very well kept, and without a doubt I hope to return.
I HIGHLY recommend going to Shivers for some amazing barbecue and an assortment of other appetizers! My family and I agreed that the fried Mac and cheese bites and the hush puppies were some of the best we had ever had here, and the sweet potato and corn cake soufflés were amazing as well. The rib meet was tender and seasoned, and the service was decently quick and personable. Though my family and I are only in Florida for a couple short weeks, it is likely that we will go back for another meal!
This place had everything. Ten stars atleast. The food was tender and soft, the tables looked recently wiped, and they had a country aesthetic. The service was also very good, the people there were inviting and nice. Even the bathrooms were funny since there were some signs with jokes. Overall I can conclude that having a munch of food from there replenishes you and gets you ready for the rest of your day.
Been coming here for years. This placed has been here since 1957. There's only one. Real good food. On today's visit, the place was clean as always. The bathroom was very clean. Service is always great. Excellent menu full of great choices. They even have food to go by the pound. Great drinks. Ice tea is really good. If you are visiting the Homestead area or headed down to The Keys, you should make it a point to stop by. Highly recommended. Thank you very much for checking in. Have a blessed day.
Shivers was a great place to fill the bellies after a long day of traipsing around the Everglades. I had the rib trio with beef, babyback, and spare pork ribs. My sweetie had the chicken and brisket combo. Both platters came with 2 sides. The collard greens were the best I have had- nice and tangy. The meats were delicious, but my one critique is that they weren't very warm when served. We had plenty to eat and leftovers to take home. The atmosphere is fun with long tables that you share with neighboring diners. The beer was cold and the service was good. The log cabin style building had lots of patina and neat old decor.
Shiver’s Barbecue is absolutely amazing! The burnt ends are out of this world, the ribs are fall-off-the-bone good, and the chicken is packed with flavor. The cornbread soufflé is something special — sweet, soft, and the perfect side. Honestly, everything here is amazing! Great food, great value, and very reasonable prices. Hands down the best barbecue in Miami!
No wonder this place is an institution. I hope it’s open another 60 years. It was such a throwback to eat such quality food and listen to classic rock bangers. The chicken was not angry, it was juicy and bbq’s to perfection. Not sure I’ll ever be back through here or not, but if I am I’ll come here for sure.
I normally don't go for BBQ, but my husband loves BBQ so we went right after visiting Coral Castle. But Lordy, I forgot how good it can taste! I used to love BBQ when I was younger and living in Florida, but as I have grown up and now live in supposedly in the BBQ capital of the world in the mid west, it hasn't been the same, either too spicy or too sweet or salty. But Shiver's brought back the memories of what good BBQ should be. Whatever you do, do not skip out on the Mac and cheese and baked beans! Definitely a 10 star place to eat!
Very very delicious meal, service was quick, and our waitress was super kind. Only thing I would say is that the food was a little cold once we got it, but the restaurant itself is very cold so that might explain why. I really enjoyed the corn casserole, someone else in the table got the brisket burnt edges and I tasted those and immediately regretted not getting them.
Kristin was attentive and wonderful. I always love coming to this restaurant before seeing a movie at Hooky/EVO homestead movie theater. Their cornbread soufflé is the best!! Wish they didn’t always run out of catfish!
We stopped by Shiver's BBQ for lunch and ordered sandwiches (pulled pork, brisket, and a hickory BBQ hamburger). All were delicious, especially the pulled pork. It's outstanding! There was also a very good selection of sides, and each side was comfort food at its best. We enjoyed BBQ beans, hush puppies, cheesy hashbrown casserole, cornbread souffle', and jalapeno cheese grits. Each side tasted homemade and full of flavor. Shiver's isn't a fancy kind of place. Guests are seated at long picnic-style tables with rolls of paper towels and barbecue sauces placed atop. So, leave your fancy clothes at home and just enjoy Shiver's for what it is: great food in a very casual, comfortable setting. Our server was very friendly and attentive and prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. We loved having lunch here!
This little gem has been serving delicious smoke BBQ for decades. They have plenty of free parking. Right on a corner. Can't miss the place and I love the fact that people have to seat near each other like an old fashioned way. I have been going there for years and never had a bad meal. Everything is fresh ans messy yummy. Their sauces are incredible but of course their own BBQ sauce is the best !!!!
This place is amazing. Great food. They have a wide selection of sauces, each unique. I had the catfish and partner had burnt ends. We both loved our meals. I did not finish mine there was so much. Try the hush puppies, some of the best I've had. Would go back.
Buen trato y servicio.
The food was generally good. But I came to visit the place because they said the brisket was one of the best in Miami, but it was very dry and the one they served me was tough. The bay ribs were very delicious. The best thing about the place was the fried mac and cheese. The place was cool and the service was great!
Great server and love the idea of sitting with everyone. Great sauces and flavour. Brisket was a little on the dryer side but the sauce made up for it! Ribs were tender, beans and coleslaw had flavour. Before the food came I did order a diet coke and it had a piece of meat in it ... They did replace it and kept it on the bill , no complaints from me.
Food was good. The corn pudding and collard greens were excellent. The baby backs and burnt ends were just okay. The smokiness was not as great as I'm used to. It's almost like they were cooked in the oven and then put on grill for 5 minutes afterwards to add smokey flavor. The flavor wasn't throughout the meat. The dessert, banana pudding, was outstanding. The service was excellent. I'll give it another try. The next time I'll get the ribs without sauce to see if I can find the smoke line.
A barbecue spot in Homestead with easy parking, though it gets packed on weekends. Housed in an old Florida-style building, it features long communal benches inside, giving a cozy, shared-table vibe despite its small size. Service is friendly, and the menu offers plenty of barbecue choices. I went for the ribs and brisket combo with collard greens, black-eyed peas, and a side of sausage. The ribs were solid, but the brisket lacked flavor, and the sausage was just okay. The collard greens were too sweet and sour for me, but the black-eyed peas were spot-on. You pay at the counter, and the overall experience was enjoyable with good service.
Legit. Burnt end sandwich is yummy. Sweet potato soufflé is a dessert to me. We come every time we’re in the area.
If you're a fan of BBQ ribs, you should definitely give Shiver's BBQ a try. The BBQ Ribs here are boldly flavorful and fall-off-the-bone tender. They're fail-proof! I ordered Full Slab of Baby Back Ribs, it is huge portion, but they are melt-in-your-mouth incredible and I ate it all! I also added Fried Corn and Jalapeño Cheese Grits & Cole Slaw for sides. However, my husband wasn’t so lucky by ordering Smoked 1/2 Chicken + coleslaw + cheesy hashbrown casserole. The chicken was not eatable at all, dry and hard.
My son and I really loved the food in this restaurant. Every aspect of it was delicious, finger-licking good, i was upset I finished my whole plate and wanted more. The servers weren't bad, she was frustrated with us because we took a little long but we just didnt know what to get, once I explained that to her, she gave us some recommendations and everything was good. I would say, their bathroom needs some serious cleaning and updating, there were bugs, it was dirty, which makes you wonder and investment on that could not hurt. Overall we would go back for the delicious food.
3 of us collectively got Hickory Chicken Platter, Baby Back & Chicken Combo, Pork Trio, and sides of Cole Slaw, Sweet Potato Fries, Jalapeño Cheese Grits, Cheesy Hashbrown Casserole, and (not pictured) Fried Corn. We agreed it was all good. The only "wow" item was the cheesy hashbrown casserole. We also got the sweet iced tea and the unsweet iced tea. Both were intensely bitter and lukewarm, I think they needed more ice to balance out. Staff generously gave us tea refills in massive containers as we waited, including a cup of ice that improved the teas. Originally the wait to sit down and eat was 40 minutes vs 25 to take out, so we ordered takeout. Took 35 minutes. Overall, this would otherwise be a 5 star rating, but factoring in the wait, leaving 4 stars.
Went for a late lunch. Since we got there on a Saturday around 3pm, they sat us pretty quickly. No wait. Food was pretty good. For appetizer we had the Fried Green Tomatoes which were really good. We also had the burnt Ends which were absolutely delicious.. For the main dishes one of kids had the Shiver Burger with hush puppies and cornbread souffle. The burger was ok, my daughter compared it to Burger King. The hush puppies were awesome and so was the cornbread souffle. My other kid had the Fried Mac and cheese which she really liked. My wife and I shared the Ribs and Brisket combo with cornbread souffle, green beans and collard greens. Well, the ribs were good but kinda dry. Definitely drench them in BBQ sauce so they go down easier. The brisket was not that great Chewy and not tender at all. Definitely won't repeat the brisket. I was really disappointed on how bad the chewy brisket was from a supposedly famous BBQ joint. Do not recommend the brisket. The green beans were good, but the collard greens were the best ive ever had. OMG were they awesome... The cornbread souffle was also really good.. Overall the price was ok for the amount of food. But as mentioned above, I truly was disappointed as to how bad the brisket was.. Maybe I got a bunch of bad chewy pieces or something but not sure if I would want to try it again. Overall I rate shivers about a 3.5 stars.
This is the best BBQ in Miami (in my humble opinion). Whenever we’re in the area we can’t pass this place up. The wait is a bit long (but then again when a restaurant is full it’s a good sign you’re going to get some good food). We arrived on a Saturday at 2:00 pm so it’s prime time lunch rush. The servers are always nice and they hustle for you. It’s community seating but that’s never an issue. We love the food here. The two main things I can never pass up is the cornbread soufflé and the pulled pork. To start off we got the corn on the cob and it never disappoints. The lunch meal we shared was the baby back ribs and pulled pork combo. The portions are decent. Our sides were fries and cornbread soufflé. All in all the food and service is great. It’s moderately priced. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants some BBQ in the 305.
The brisket was good but the ribs were a little dry. My server was great but the kitchen was pretty slow, especially for BBQ which is pretty much all precooked!
Food was good. It was a nice place for the family. You eat on very long picnic tables that you share with others. Our server was attentive and the food came out within good time from when we ordered.
Found this place because the nearby Sonnys was closed (temporarily?) except for carryout. Food and service were good. The atmosphere is old-timey with everyone sitting together on long picnic tables. Can be fun if you enjoy chatting with strangers.
If you like ribs, this is the place! Literally, “falling off the bone” and delicious. Better than Shorty’s and Flanagan without a doubt. The ambience is typical ribs restaurant, but you don’t go there for ambience. Pleasant help, prompt service. A bit expensive for the type of venue. Recommended.
El ahumado de la carne no sobresale mucho, tube que usar las salsas para obtener el sabor, la col y los frijoles estaban al punto , si deseas algo para variar puedes ir a este lugar
Decent BBQ spot, I would say the best part was the sides (just not the cheesy potatoes) the meat was dry so that was a little disappointing but the service was good!
I drove an hour to try this place. Do not make the same mistake! Pork had no smoke and brisket was just ok! They had no burnt ends which the are famous far! Very disappointed!
My family of four went on a Sunday Night around 7:30. We only had to wait about 10 min before being seated. It took much longer to get the food out. For starters, we ordered: fried pickles (great), fried okra (excellent), and fried green tomatoes (come out cold, not so good). Then we ordered the burnt ends (really good but slightly cold) and rib trio (also slightly cold and was ok). The sides: jalapeno cheese grits (great), hush puppies (not good), mashed pot w/gravy and green beans. This place did not really stand out to me.
Went here for our Sunday night dinner with the family & the place was packed. Fairly quick for us to get a seat but they original set us at a table that we all had to squish at and ask the people next to us to scoot over a bit so my uncle could half way sit on the bench. Thankfully a whole table opened up just a few minutes later and we moved so we were not eating like 🦖 t-rexs. One thing we noticed was the walls and floor deff need a deep clean. One of the guys brought us waters and soft drinks while we waited for our server. They must have been slammed this week because a lot of items were not available. She came and got our order quickly and effectively! Usually when we come food is hot - but this time Food was lukewarm when it arrived at the table… but was still good! I got the pulled pork platter with cornbread soufle and french fries, which was the perfect size for one. Others got the fall off the bone ribs and a trio platter which was great!
This was one of my favorite places ever. Not sure what happened. Food took a long time to come out. Chicken was warmish. Good but seemed like a step down from before. Wife's brisket was literally cold. They brought her new brisket but it was bland. It was also freezing in there. I'm warm everywhere I go so if I'm cold, it's freezing in there. Not sure why the AC was on so high. I might return eventually but I don't think this is gonna be my go-to spot again unless it improves.
Not sure what happened to this place… The baby back ribs were burnt to a crisp and dry. The girl at the window didn’t even give us any sauce when we asked for extra. He even gave her a 10 tip, didn’t check the bag after she said yes it’s there, and gave us someone’s mashed potatoes… Been going there my whole life!
Haven't been here in years. well we waited for 30 to 35 minutes which isn't bad considering it's small inside, our waitress was nice and friendly. She took our order early, it was going great. We then waited like 15 to 20 minutes for the appetizers which included hush puppies, and corn on the cob. When our main order came, the pulled pork was good, the brisket tho was not tender or smokey, the fries were burnt. my girlfriend's brisket and fries were cold and barely cooked. I don't feel I got $87 dollars worth of food. Left pretty disappointed.
First and foremost, the service was great. Friendly, helpful and sincere. Unfortunately, the food was not on par with the service. Both the brisket and pulled pork were dry. Fried Okra was the highlight, clean and lightly breaded. Everything else was mediocre. Still have to try the banana pudding, took it to-go. At the end of my meal, I overheard the waitress sharing my comments concerning the dry meats, and chef instead of taking ownership, decided to state something in the manner of "nobody has complained all day long". Definitely needs to check his attitude.
I agree with many of these lower reviews. This place has gone downhill since the last time I was here and way worse from the first time I was here. The burnt ends were mostly FAT. The baby back ribs, just no love and just wasn't imo, quality meat nor tasted that fresh. The sides were fine though my girlfriend had a hush puppy that was inedible. The brisket, ehhhh. Just like I said, no love, no apparent care and little integrity.
Food was amazing and the server was very busy. She did keep apologizing for my wait to order. The problem is the Hostess was very angry because it was busy. When I walked in, there was a wait. I said oh it's a little busy huh. She became angry and said yeah way to busy. What?!? Then I found out why. She wanted to play on her phone, which she was doing every chance she got. This is why most businesses now have a no cell phone on the floor policy.
The chicken was extremely dry. They need to change the way they cook it. Ribs were a bit better, but it seems they overcook their food. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. Couldn't have arranged for friendlier folks. But the food needs improvement for sure.
I was really disappointed with my experience. The brisket and spare ribs tasted like leftovers that had been warmed up—the brisket was super dry and lacking freshness. The hashbrowns and toast were cold as well. When asked how everything was, I gave an honest answer, but the response I received was, ‘I’ll let them know.’ Nothing was done to address the issues or make it right. Unfortunately, this leaves me with no reason to return.
Used to love Shiver’s BBQ and have been coming for years, but it’s gone downhill. Ordered the brisket and ribs platter with sausage, sweet potato casserole, and green beans. Sides and sausage were great—but the brisket was bone dry and the ribs were burnt. So disappointed. Sadly, this might be my last visit. They've lost their touch.
