Taco Island is praised for its friendly staff, especially Jorge and Sylvana, who provide excellent service. Customers rave about the birria tacos and churros. Some find the appetizers pricey and portions small for the price, and some report slow service at times.

From the greeting at the door to the Thank You for coming, everything was an unique experience. Sylvana was amazing at explaining the menu and suggesting particular dishes. Her charisma is unique and made her the star of the night. Lime and Salt margaritas are deliciously crafted. Fajitas carry a blend of flavors that allow your buds have a 5 de Mayo feast in your mouth. Everyone else in the restaurant is welcoming and friendly. This is an experience you can not prolong anymore.
Amazing service they're so sweet and took amazing care of me and my food, They have the best birria and churros ever! 100% recommend!
I was hungry walking in sunny isle and came upon this location, like O M G , the place is an authentic Mexican location , the staff is soooo friendly like when I was in Mexico , I was recommended so many drinks and ended up taking all of them , but the food , the food recommendation the Birra tacos are out of this world!!!! 10/10 to everything I love the staff the food , will definitely come back tomorrow
We had the chicken quesadillas and we had churros with ice cream for dessert and everything was absolutely delicious. Very homemade family friendly atmosphere. I will definitely be back!
Absolutely loved it. Very hospitable the food was delicious like grandma's if she was a good cook lol. Clean. Bathroom was immaculate. Food came quickly. Great vibe. No matter what your dietary preferences they meet it.
The food and drinks here were excellent! Not overwhelming or anything out of this world, just the right portion size and it all tasted great. The only hold up was how long it took to get our Bill so we could get going. We felt like that doubled our time there, but it was November in Miami and we were having dinner Outside so I was not complaining!
George was fantastic, we had so much fun! great vibes
Taco Island not only had yummy and beautiful food but the service was awesome! We are from Texas and this restaurant surpassed our expectations! Jorge is as the very best! Above and beyond!
We loved finding Taco Island while we stayed in Sunny Isles FL. The best Mexican food on the beach and we will be back if we come back to Miami! The food and drinks are amazing! You will not be disappointed!

Awesome food at a good price for the area, and the service was unparalleled.
We were just there this Saturday. When we walked in we were seated and taken care of of immediately. The service was fantastic our editor was very hospitable. We ordered the chicken nachos, which were very good!!! I’m looking forward to coming to this place again. Granted the prices were a little high but it’s justified by its location. RIGHT on Collins ave in Sunny isles. Food was great, service was great, place was clean. Definitely would go back
We had an absolutely delightful time at the Mexican restaurant! The atmosphere was fun and vibrant, with lively music and delicious food. We couldn't get enough of their amazing Margaritas! The manager, Georgie, was exceptionally kind and made us feel welcomed throughout our visit. We've made it a tradition to dine here every time we visit Sunny Isles, and it never disappoints. Highly recommended Georgie will make you like you are on the island of taco
Absolutely delicious. Landed in Miami from Maryland at 9 and the first place we randomly ended up was Taco Island. It must have been meant to be! The birria tacos were so delicious as was everything else that we ordered. Highly recommended. The waitress the morning of March 8th was very sweet and actually recommended the Birria tacos to me.
Awesome food. Very good service ask. George was very professional and on point with service. I def would recommend
Taco Island is hands-down one of the BEST spots I’ve ever been to! From the moment I walked in, the vibe was so welcoming and warm. The food? Absolutely incredible every bite was bursting with flavor, fresh ingredients, and made with love. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was the manager, Sady. She’s the kindest, most attentive person ever. You can tell she genuinely cares about every customer and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Her energy lights up the place, and it’s rare to find someone so dedicated and passionate. Everything from the service to the ambiance to the food was amazing. If you haven’t been to Taco Island yet, you’re seriously missing out. 10/10 can’t wait to come back! 🌮💛
This place is great! Went here three separate times in one week and the food is outstanding, authentic and inexpensive. The drinks are good too. The service is a little slow but very friendly. We had multiple people with us who loved it here. I highly recommend it for your Mexican/ south western craving. The tacos, enchiladas and the churros (some of the best we’ve had) are great choices!
I have been here three times, solo, with a date and with my 8 year old. It’s honestly better every time! Every inch of the restaurant is thoughtfully decorated and festive with Spanish music in the background. Service is welcoming and generous. Honestly it feels more like having a meal with family than at a restaurant. Service is fast, the food is fresh and flavorful with large portions. Prices are more than fair for an expensive tourist area. Being able to speak Spanish will help here but English is accommodated. At this meal we enjoyed the chips, salsa and queso app, a mojito (which the bartender graciously made to my preference), the fresh passion fruit juice, a Mexican salad with steak and the chicken enchilada entree. The kid insisted on dessert after all that and devoured (again, a very large portion) the churros with ice cream.
The first day we came I had the nachos with chicken and my hubby had the burrito with carnitas and we both had the delicious piña coladas and both the food and drinks were amazing. Our waitress Angela was so sweet and treated us really nice. The second day we went for breakfast. I had chilaquiles and my hubby had an omelette. It was your typical omelette but the chilaquiles were not the greatest. But we paid $30 for our breakfast which is the cheapest we have paid anywhere in Sunny Isles. Angela was our server and again she was absolutely amazing and kind. She gave us tips on what to do and where to visit.
Great food very helpful staff explaining the differences between our choices
George was great! He encouraged us to do karaoke and it was so fun! Food was also good and the queso was delicious!
This is an excellent place to eat. We are visiting from New York, and the food is amazing. Jorge is the nicest guy we have ever met. From the bartender to the staff, this is THE place to eat the very best Mexico has to offer.
During my recent visit to Miami, I stumbled upon what can only be described as a culinary paradise. I originally stopped in for breakfast and was so blown away that I immediately made plans to return for lunch the same day. Yes, it’s that good. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warmth, authenticity, and the irresistible aroma of sizzling spices. The food? Absolute perfection. Every bite tasted like it was made with love and tradition. Whether it was the rich, savory flavors of the huevos rancheros or the perfectly balanced lunch plates, each dish showcased the heart and soul of true Mexican cuisine. Now let’s talk about the drinks. Their horchata… oh my. Creamy, cinnamon-kissed, and ice-cold, hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. A must-try that completes the whole experience. What truly sets Taco Island apart, though, is the people. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to be there. The cherry on top? Sady, the owner, who is as involved as she is charming. She makes it a point to engage with her guests, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and cared for. It’s rare to find an owner so present and passionate—and it shows in every detail of the restaurant. Taco Island didn’t just serve me a meal—it gave me an experience, one that made me feel like part of the family. If you’re in Miami and want unforgettable food, warm vibes, and the best horchata of your life, Taco Island is a must. Your new friends from TEXAS give you a 10/10.
I wish I could give Taco Island 10 stars. The food is incredible, the staff are friendly, welcoming and personable. They really make you feel like family. The food is made with fresh ingredients and it’s apparent in its flavor. The restaurant itself is always clean. I will definitely be back!
We came to Miami to escape hurricane Milton with our dog. They not only allowed us to bring our dog inside since we couldn’t leave him at the hotel alone (and too windy to eat outside)..but brought him a bowl of water without us asking. The birria tacos were amazing. The best ones we’ve had. Churros were delicious as well! Service was wonderful. Everyone was super friendly. If I could give them 10/5, I would. Thank you for making a stressful situation easier for us without hesitation.
Amazing place with the kindest workers. A mother and daughter own it and they are so welcoming. A very fun and inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The service we received was very personable.
This place is amazing!! We first came here two years ago and made sure to plan our visit so it would be easy for us to come back! George is fantastic, he is so friendly and efficient!! The food is out of this world and always comes out hot and fresh!! 10000/10 would recommend!!
What amazing experience Sadi our waitress was so kind happy and gave us a really good service, when we came back to Miami we will be back to taco island, the food was really good and my coffee really good. It was lunch time and I ask for something from the breakfast menu and they made me the chilaquiles so delicious 5 stars.
Great ambiance, costumer service, music and of course, food! Went there to celebrate my friend’s birthday and we had piña colada which was refreshing and delicious. I ordered birria tacos and they were just as good. 10/10 I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants a great time and great mexican food. George took great care of us all and measured no efforts to make sure we had the best time! If you are considering going here don’t waste any time looking further, this is the place!
amazing food, very tasty and flavourful with fresh ingredients! amazing customer service, everyone was so kind and helpful! highly recommended!
Spectacular Location. The food was quite scrumptious and very tasty. The staff were very hospitable, and very friendly. I will not hesitate to come back to Taco Island, BEST MEXICAN FOOD. If you come here, you will have an amazing experience! They also have the best frozen margaritas.
Incredible staff, environment, and the food is A-MA-ZING. The birria tacos bring me so much joy I can't put it into words. Love this place and everything about it. Please pay them a visit because they deserve it!
I 100% recommend Taco Island. The service, food, and the workers were all AMAZING. I had such a great experience here and will definitely go back.
To start, the service is superv, the owner is there, taking care of the costumers with the most highly details. Just give it a try, you'll gett greatly satisfied.

My first time was good. A very slow lunch, I basically had it to myself. Which I like. A lot. Everything comes out fast and hot. The guacamole app is fine. Presentation makes it look larger than it is. The chicken enchiladas were good. Flavor was all there. And, they were good portion sizes especially for the price-points. I don't know why but I judge refried beans. And these were GOOD. I did not drink alcohol but will next time. As far as the restaurant itself, it's fun. Everything seemed well taken care of, and no bad vibes like so many others in the area. Service was very attentive.
I recently visited Taco Island, and the highlight of my meal was definitely the birria tacos. They were flavorful and delicious, making them the standout dish of the evening! However, the appetizers were quite pricey for the amount of food served, which was a bit disappointing. Like the guacamole and flavorless chips. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but there's definitely room for improvement. The service was really good, with the staff being attentive and friendly. With a few tweaks, Taco Island could become a go-to spot for great Mexican food with lots of potential for Mexican food in Miami (coming from a native fellow Mexican or “chilango” chef).
Food was fantastic. Ordered classic margs...if you like them strong this is the place. Chips, salsa and queso and nacho island for appitizer. Salsa was a little bland but queso was top notch with a little kick of heat. Nacho island was good and had guac that was a little chunky. Just how I like it. For the meal, carne asada quesadilla....so good! Highly recommend. The fish tacos were fantastic as well. The had a sauce on them that had a bit of a kick too. Service was a little less. Received stuff we specifically asked not to get and mixed our bills up.

I recently visited Taco Island and had a mixed experience. I tried the tacos al pastor, which were decent but nothing special. The portions were quite small for the price, which was a bit disappointing. One area that definitely needs improvement is hygiene, especially in the bathroom. It wasn’t as clean as it should be. On a positive note, the restaurant is filled with colorful artwork that beautifully reflects Mexican culture, which I found very cool. The ambiance was nice and added to the overall dining experience. The service was polite, but I didn’t appreciate being rushed. The server brought the check without me asking, and it felt like they were in a hurry to end our service. This was confirmed when I saw the server having dinner shortly after. Overall, Taco Island has potential, but there are a few areas that need attention.
The food was ok, the beef tacos were dry and the water came straight from the tap! For the price point and location, food présentation and portion sizes could be better. I do love that Coca-Cola was from México lindo
I recently visited this place over the weekend, and it was quite empty, so finding a seat was easy. I ordered a piña colada, which barely had any alcohol, even though they ask if you want it with or without alcohol when you order. Given the prices, the portion sizes were quite small. Additionally, the chicken in the chimichanga and enchilada we ordered was cubed rather than shredded, which made me question its authenticity. Unlike most Mexican restaurants that offer free chips and salsa, this place does not. Lastly, they have a mandatory 20% tip policy, even for groups of two or single diners, along with a 3% surcharge for card transactions.
The restaurant is a tourist restaurant meaning that the prices are high and you are paying more than any other local Mexican restaurants in the area. The food is okay I had the pork enchiladas with red sauce and rice with their refried beans which again was okay. I am a fan of Mexican food and this was average nothing that would make me want to go back. There is no salsa and chips served as a complimentary start, you got to pay for that and again it's twice the price of other Mexican restaurants that I have gone and ate. The service was okay, I had to get up and ask for the check, the place was not full it was just me inside. My other pet peeves is that they added their tip on their check and than expected more? This place would have potential with locals if those issues were to be addressed because they all make a difference. They have a lunch special which works, and starts at $15.99 for the meal and drink. Parking is free and in front of the restaurant.
In town from the West Coast. Mexican so figured let me get some of my kind of food. Used Uber eats to order my tacos de al pastor. Said no onions, but they kept the cilantro. Meat was pretty salty and didn't taste like Al Pastor to me. Taste more like Barbacoa to me. Corn was good. Rice and beans were ok. I put in the special instructions asking for grilled jalapeño since I saw they had them. None were give which made me sad because it would of made the food better.
Food was very good. Mango margaritas was not good. Their pina colada was very delicious and cute. My skirt steak was amazing. Their guacamole is very fresh. Service was fast.

We took guacamole & potato chips with a side of fries with two Coke Zero. Food was disappointing. Bill was 32$
My friend and I stopped by really quick for maybe just queso dip. We were welcome by a young gentleman who was nice and we asked to sit outside since it was nice outside. We ended up having an older gentleman serving us. He asked "if want to start with anything to drink" and we said "waters". It came out with bottles of water and we realized they charged 2.25 for the water. We end up ordering one al pastor taco and one shredded beef. My friend ordered cheese with her taco. We went in to pay for our tacos and the older gentleman just assume to put both our tickets together. When I asked for two separate tickets, he rolled his eyes and sighed. I end up telling him that's fine and just charged it together. I received the ticket and they already included gratuity in the ticket, also charging for a small sauce cup size for cheese 2.25. He then had decided to say "thank you kathie" when looking at my card..... It was the most unpleasant experience. The taco was fresh and hot, it did not disappoint but the older gentleman made the experience not pleasant.
The place is super cute. The servers were incredibly nice and attentive, which made the experience pleasant on that front. Unfortunately, the food itself was a major letdown. While the menu looked promising, the quality simply did not match the steep prices. The dishes were overly oily and lacked the fresh, vibrant flavors you’d expect from authentic Mexican cuisine. For what you pay, the quality and attention to detail in the food just aren’t there.
Good food, but they add gratuity even for take out items which is not common. I understand adding the tip to the bill if you dine in, but for taking out is not normal.
We stopped in around 1 p.m. on a quiet Saturday in late November and were seated right away, with drinks and fresh guac and chips landing on the table pretty quickly. The menu felt promising, so we went in with a mix: three tacos, a chicken quesadilla, side of rice, side of beans, plus the guac and chips, a Diet Coke, and a classic margarita. With tip, the bill came to about $105. Given how slow the restaurant was, the kitchen pace was surprisingly leisurely—the food took longer than expected to arrive. When it did, everything was...fine, but nothing really sang. The flavors were muted across the board, like the seasoning had been dialed down a notch or two. Not a bad meal by any means, but for the price point and the wait, I was hoping for bolder, more memorable flavors.

The fact that they have been getting bad reviews about their food's flavors and portions months ago and they still not correcting these bad reviews is concerning. I ordered a chimichanga, a burrito and tortilla soup for $70, a price I thought it was a little too high for a food that was an insult to Mexican cuisine. The beef and chicken had no flavor, adding a pinch of cumin and black pepper always go well with Mexican foods or they could have slow cooked the chicken in chili sauce for aunthencity flavors. The carne asada in the chimichanga could have been marinated too. The refried beans could have been refried in manteca add some red onions or green onions for flavor and the rice no bueno. I had Mexican rice in the box that tasted better. I don't mind paying a high price for my food, but I expect good flavors or a well balanced seasoning. I hate giving bad reviews because I don't know the cooks experiences or their intentions. However, as a self made chef I want my clients to enjoy a great meal, even if its a simple grill cheese sandwich. 🥴🤷🏽♂️
We stopped here looking for a relatively quick dinner at a reasonable price, neither of which we achieved. It started out ok, the waiter was very nice and helpful explaining their authentic Mexican style food. After some time we were served water and placed our food orders. Chips and salsa aren’t free here so we ordered it as an appetizer for $6 and received a tiny basket of chips that my family swallowed in about 4 seconds. Then we waited a long time, considering past experience at Mexican restaurants, for our food. It was not busy, maybe 20% capacity on a Wednesday night. Our food was finally served and it was good. Can’t complain there. However not once did anyone ask how the meal was or refill our waters. I finally had to ask for the bill after another long wait. For 9 tacos and 3 enchiladas, the bill was over $100. Really?! And they automatically billed me for an 18% tip for just a family of four, which was not deserved. This place has a lot of potential with good food and a nice atmosphere but they really need to reevaluate their pricing, and remove the automatic gratuity to encourage better wait staff service.
Sadly, not a great place. Mediocre food at best. Marginally decent service. Kind of expensive for what you get, though that's likely related to the inflated tent in Sunny Isles. This place could be better and I will go back to see if they can make it work. Not awful, just underwhelming
I had the carne asada which was cold, unseasoned and I felt like it was overpriced especially for the small portion they served. The mojito i ordered was alright a bit watered down with the flavor. The employees were nice but overall I would not recommend it
The service at this place was great, but there are some significant areas for improvement. To start, the cleanliness was lacking—our table was dirty when we sat down, and both the plates and silverware were filthy. We had to request replacements, which made me uneasy about the food. The food itself was fairly average, but unfortunately, I became very ill afterward. To top it off, they included an 18% gratuity, which felt frustrating given the experience.
Decent place. Usually take my order to go. Saw another review saying they charge gratuity when you order to go also which is weird, never noticed that.
Disappointment...the food was very bad, the guava was soft, the avocado was mashed with a fork, the supermarket salsa and the tacos were soft and reheated, the margarita was a frozen mango juice with alcohol poured on top, because that was the only flavor they had, and the waiters were not very friendly. As a result, I returned the dish and told them why, and the waitress said it was fresh. I showed her the taco that didn't break, it was soft and old. I paid and in addition to the gratuity included in the bill, I also asked for an extra tip. My friend ordered a salad that was very bad, why would that be? In my opinion, when I tried it, it wasn't fresh.
I walked in very nice a colorful. But the server was not friendly. I was very hungry so i sat down. I am from California and lived and traveled Mexico for 5 years. So i know and love Mexican . Not many good ones in south Florida. But EVERY Mexican restaurant I have been in has combination plates. Let you pick a taco, Enchilada,Burrito or ChileRiano! This place only has 3 tacos or 3 Enchiladas and they call that a combination plate. I am wondering what the combination is. I asked the manager if he could do the mix for me he said no. On the back of his card it says everything is possible lol. Except you cant eat what YOU want . Only what they let you. Not real Mexican at all. Stay away, to many other good places to eat.
Had a really bad experience. The food is super overpriced, you can find better quality food in Taco Bell. We ordered margaritas which we didn’t like at all. They automatically added 20% service to the bill which they don’t deserve at all.
My recent experience at this restaurant was disappointing, to say the least. Despite being a frequent visitor, last night's encounter with the owner left a sour taste in my mouth. Not only was my order taken incorrectly, but when I brought it to his attention, he was dismissive and unwilling to make it right. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, he accused me of having consumed the food, even though it was clearly not what I had ordered. This incident has made me question whether I'll return to this establishment. As a resident of Sunny Isles for over seven years, I've seen the decline in quality firsthand. There are certainly better dining options in the area, and I would even go as far as to say that you can get a better meal at Chipotle. To the owner: Your treatment of guests reflects poorly on your establishment. Dining out with my daughter is a rare treat for us, and your lack of respect and professionalism ruined what should have been an enjoyable Saturday night. Both of us left hungry and unsatisfied, ultimately choosing to dine elsewhere. It's a shame that you prioritize your ego over customer satisfaction.
I came to try fish taco. George the server said he has special for $17.99 for 3 tacos and rice. I said let me try this one if I like it it take the special. I did liked it. And said bring the the other two tacos that’s come with special. He brings me 3 tacos. And than keep convincing me to order alcohol drink I did after so many attempts of him coming back and asking me to buy drinks. Than he brings me margarita with a shot of tequila I never asked for it And when time came to pay My bill was $60 Please be careful with this guy George. Trying to screw people because he thinks in miami you can just pull money out of people. Never I will go there.
Chips and salsa is $13 and they give you one very small bowl of salsa to share between 6 people. Server does not speak English, cleaned our table before bringing the check, which is rude especially when we asked for the check before. However food was worse than I can make at home and I rarely cook so that’s sad. Do not recommended
They sell dog food here for $25. And have the nerve to add 20% gratuity for food that I would not feed to a dog. Disgusting! Don’t fall into this tourist trap!! It’s far worse than Taco Bell 🌮 and I’m not even a Taco Bell 🛎️ person but I would pick Taco Bell over this horrendous restaurant!
We’ve been sitting here for the last hour with these two drinks waiting for some service of any kind. If you look at my reviews I do not give out bad reviews unless it’s necessary. Don’t come on Saturday night unless you’re not that hungry and have lots of time to waste. We left and went to Pollo Tropical. Seems like we would have spent $20 for tiny, mediocre-at-best tacos here anyway. The michaladas were alright though...until we got the bill and saw they had automatically added gratuity for our two drinks. An even bigger slap in the face. Definitely won’t be back.
Employees are great, food not so much. The best thing we had was the rice. Everything else had no flavor, definitely don't get anything with steak!
We ordered the Chimichanga and Enchilada plates, but none of my toppings came with the dish. The Chimichanga was loaded with onions, probably to mask its lack of flavor. The Enchiladas were just as disappointing—I didn’t know chicken could be that dry. The rice and beans were fine. This is easily the worst “Mexican” food I’ve ever had.
