So this was my first visit, and I had Peyton as my server. She has like the sweetest voice, but, also was really helpful in tying my bib after it fell off(So thankful I asked and she did because that thing got messier than i thought it would🤣), while my hands were sauced fingertip to wrist. She was patient as I tried to figure out what to order, and answered a few questions, or admitted she didn't know and went to ask(Honesty is always good). I'm not quite sure I ever figured out exactly how to use the red claw tool, but it was more durable and handy once I started using it. Food did come out wrong initially in 2 ways, we did only catch the 1 though. I had ordered crab legs and they were not on the plate initially. Was a quick fix thankfully. Later on we realized I never got the rice I ordered, and Peyton was quick to get it removed. I think the food could've been sauced a bit better, but beyond that it was amazing, and messy and well worth the trip for the food alone, but Peyton was definitely icing on the cake. Decorations were nice and I like the interactive table with the word searches and such, wasn't much of a fan of the music though. Definitely wasn't looking to spend 200$ on food for myself, but its also been a while since Ive gotten to eat like that. SOOO looking forward to visiting again.
I must say as a first time customer at the Hookk & Real I really enjoyed myself great experience food was greatI!! Most of all my server, Danyel she did an amazing job!!!
Great casual dining spot. Great dinner deals. Huge dining area. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was prepared fast. The drinks were tasty. Loved the lemon-pepper wings... I could eat them all day.
Stopped by here for some lunch with my wife and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here! We got the mini boil in Cajun sauce, the flounder poboy, and some crabmeat fries. The mini boil was seriously good! All the seafood in there was cooked perfectly, it was flavorful, and even the mussels were quite large! My only complaint would be a bit too much sauce on the fries and the lobby, but other than that we really enjoyed our meals! Prices were pretty fair especially for a seafood joint, and it's definitely a spot we would come back to!
We tried this place for the first time and really enjoyed it. It's pretty messy but that was expected. My food was delicious and filling. It is a bit pricey but all seafood is. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try. My wife's drink was really good and their drinks list all looked like good choices. It's a pretty big place with lots of seating. Don't hesitate to stop in.
Flavor? On fire. Vibes? Immaculate. And shoutout to Gretchen—best server ever, hands down. She made the night unforgettable. Already planning our next visit. Chef’s kiss!!!
Came here around 9pm on a Thursday looking for lobster. Well they had it. But they so many additional options that I forgot to order any lobster. I did eat some terrific shrimp, crayfish, Dungeness crabs, corn, etc..with that garlic butter. Also got the house sauce in the side, which I didn’t love. Just a little too heavy. The kid got a corn dog which I ended up eating. But she freaking loved the shrimp and literally said “this is my favorite meal ever.” Take that for what it’s worth. She had ketchup on her forehead the whole time. Our heavily tattooed waitress who was wearing glasses on this day, was terrific and attentive. PS-The gloves are for rookies
Stopped in with no idea what to expect since we’re from an hour away. Our waiter, Christopher, was excellent. Extremely polite and helpful. He didn’t bother us while we were eating and we didn’t feel rushed. He checked in at just the right times. He was really great. The place is clean, bathroom was clean, and the atmosphere was welcoming. At some point they close the blinds and dim the lights a bit, and that added to the comfort. We ordered a decent sized boil and it was excellent! My daughter couldn’t stop eating it. The fries were delicious. The calamari is some of the best I’ve ever had, and it’s something we order at most places we go. Not to mention we ordered and I swear it felt like only 5 minutes had passed before the food was in front of us. Food & service was tremendous and we already know we will be back again soon.
Mia was an absolute doll! Incredible service and it was a stellar experience! Appetizers came out in 7 minutes and 30 seconds from the time we placed our order. Our meals came out 6 minutes and 6 seconds later. I had the shrimp basket which was exactly as described and the breading was perfectly seasoned. Paired with the golden fries it was a decent meal and filling. My wife had the crab roll which had a surprise hint of horseraddish or mustard in it. The sweet potato waffle fries are delicious. We started with the lobster bisque for appetizer and boy do they have a really good one. It tasted like it was freshly made. 😋
Damien was our waiter and he did an exceptional job. Music was excellent. Jon Zanger !!!
Now this is my spot!!!! Food on point drink were amazing and the vibe was chill!!! Loved it! Everytime we get a chance we go there.
Our server was Mike C and he was wonderful. The food and fantastic service will have us going back very soon.
Danielle was an incredible server and guided us through the menu and helped with all of our questions. Thanks for making a great environment for us, Danielle
My father and I came here to have lunch and we had Bella as our waitress. She was super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was enjoyable. The atmosphere itself was very comforting and the decorations look really cool. The food was amazing and I 100% recommend this restaurant if you’re a seafood lover. The staff is nothing but kind and the food is delicious.
Our waitress was Gretchen and she was amazing. Best waitress I’ve ever had. She was so nice, so knowledgeable and friendly. Going to request her everytime we come! 5 stars!!
First time visiting this place. It is very spacious and clean. The food was top tier I didn’t expect it to be that good honestly. The waiter was friendly and helpful. It’s definitely a good happy hour spot also. We went for a lunch date and agreed that this is now one of our go to spots.
Hi We are currently feeling very down because our family cat just passed away. We came in to the hook and reel in Middletown ny And to our surprise we had the best server ever by the name of Rhea . She was so hospitable and upbeat full of energy . We will surely be coming back and asking for Rhea . Thank you for the great night
Honestly it's my go to for seafood in the area. It's clean, take out is so easy, literally a 15 minute wait if you order in the restaurant. And if you don't have claw crackers, ask they are like 2$ a pair!
First time visiting this restaurant for our daughter's birthday! The waitress was super friendly and once she knew it was our first time there she explained the whole menu to us and allowed my daughter to taste the seasoning/sauce that would go in her seafood boil bag! The food was nice and hot when it came out. My catfish meal was on point and the crab/lobster fries were magnificent!!! The prices were good and not overly expensive like some seafood restaurants we have been to. My son, who is 7, enjoyed his fried shrimp and even asked for more! My daughters were very happy with their meal choices. The atmosphere was very laid back, and the restaurant itself was HUGE, like you can have a whole party in their space, they also have two areas in the back that looks like its for large parties and/or private dining. I would recommend this place to everyone!
Our first time & we are hooked! Thank you Mike our server, for a great experience! We will definitely come again! P.s please add banana pudding to dessert list!
The seafood boils are to die for. It is so fresh and delicious. The spicy lemon pepper sauce is the best. It works so well with all seafood options. The hush puppies are so good dipped into it. Service is always polite and food comes so fast.
The lobster bisque was creamy and flavorful with a bit of a kick. The founder basket was also delicious -- the fish had a light and crispy batter. Great pina colada too. Glad to find a place nearby with frozen drinks.
While I was visiting in Middletown, NY I had the chance to visit Hook and Reel. I’m a seafood lover at heart!!! As I was being seated, I noticed EVERYONE had on gloves. So I said note to self wear gloves. They had many seasonings but I went for the traditional Old Bay seasoning. I ordered shrimp (no head), scallops and crab legs boil, which includes potatoes and corn. The meal comes in a big bag. I chose to eat mine out of the bag. OMG - so good. I didn’t order any drinks, but next time I may order a draft beer. They were setting up for live music, but I left before the music started. It wasn’t too busy and the service was great. I can’t wait to come back!! Review provided by Jennifer V-E Johnson
Every time I come to Hook & Reel in Elmwood Park, Mikaela always makes the experience better! She’s super welcoming the moment you walk in — friendly, professional, and always greets everyone with a smile. Whether she’s at the host stand or the register, she keeps things running smoothly and makes sure customers are taken care of right away.
Great music and food but our waitress Lily made it even better. She should be training people to be like her! Take good care of her!
Tati was our server and she was INCREDIBLE! she had such an amazingly bubbly personality and was so sweet! We happened to be there for a live band as well. Atmosphere is awesome, people are great and the food is the best in the area by far!
Rhea had PHENOMENAL customer service. Very friendly waitress and made sure we were very taken care of. Please appreciate her, it’s rare to have good humans around!
Great seafood place. Boils are really good. Good drink menu. Been here multiple times. Gretchen is an awesome waitress and we ask for her every time we go.
Dameon was a wonderful server , his energy was wonderful . He’s very proactive & keeps the vibes good . He’s great with service constant checking on us which shows His dedication .
The atmosphere reminds me of an authentic seaside restaurant. The food is delicious. I had the lobster bisque. Literally the best ever!! Dad had the large scallops boil with potatoes, corn, and eggs. The scallops were big as marshmallows! The beers were ice cold and paired well with the boil. Our waiter Jayyy was attentive and friendly. He made sure our needs were always met. Looking forward to coming back soon!
We came to celebrate our mom‘s birthday our server Gerard F was absolutely amazing. He made our dinner memorable. His friendliness, & atentativeness, was outstanding. We couldn’t have asked for a better server. KUDOS to Gerard.
Place is awesome. Food is good and server was sweet but it took a min and a server was just like anyone help you. No. Ok guess I will... Well she did but I'm not sure the host told the waitress she was getting sat. Loud cause they had a live band but when they don't it's fine. So atmosphere took a hit on that one but it's not an every nite thing so. Expensive too but it is seafood. Not the first time there and will def go again.
Hannah was absolutely amazing with a group of 20 people 10 of them being crazy little kids ages 12 to 1. She did not mess up on a single order from drinks to food. Very polite, thank you Hannah for a great experience
We went for our first time and had the best experience! I kept mentioning to my husband how awesome, friendly and helpful our waiter Dameon R. Was. We eat out a lot and I have honestly not had a waiter as helpful, kind and fun as him… your waiter makes a huge difference!!
Spacious restaurant in the old Chuck E Cheese building, in the Home Depot parking lot. Service was very friendly the waitress explained the menu and made recommendations. The coconut shrimp was very good. We also tried the fish and chips "fried flounder" and a flounder Po Boy all good. The shrimp flavors rice cake cookies were flavorless, tasted like, well, rice cakes.
FIVE STARS – Hook, Line & Sinker! My husband and I visited Hook & Reel in Middletown for the first time, and our server MichaelSweetSide truly made the experience unforgettable. Michael was amazingly sweet, incredibly caring, and genuinely attentive from start to finish. He walked us through the menu, explained how everything worked, and even brought us a sample of the crab seasoning mix so we could try it beforehand. That small gesture showed exactly the kind of waiter he is—thoughtful, patient, and committed to giving excellent service. My husband (a.k.a. Cracker Man, because he was cracking those crabs like a pro 😂) and I laughed and enjoyed ourselves the entire time. Michael kept the vibe light, fun, and welcoming. Honestly, he’s the reason we’re hooked — hook, line, and sinker! Great food, great atmosphere, and exceptional service. We’ll definitely be back! I do hope you got what Im laying down
No specific gluten free menu however… What a fantastic experience!! Hands down!!! Our waitress was not only friendly and excellent, she took the time to read me ingredients on anything that she thought was questionable. They do offer many options that have no gluten. There was live music, the food was fantastic and although it is a chain it had a small town restaurant feel.
This is the first time that I have been here to try some crabs in the local area and it truly was an amazing time. I will say, if you get a drink, some appetizers and a meal each it does end up being $30-$50 or more per person, but with how delicious the food was, and how the service was, it truly didn't matter. I want to give an amazing shout out to our waitress named Lily V. From the get-go I know that I wanted to write an amazing review about this person because, a ) their overall energy was warm and friendly and inviting. It was the first time that I was ever at the location and this waitress in particular made sure that any questions I had were answered thoroughly and professionally, and they had an amazing and beautiful energy throughout the night. I wasn't uncomfortable with my worries or my questions about the platters that we were getting and they even suggested me amazing appetizers to compliment my meal. Because of this waitress I have told many people about this restaurant and I hope that the people around me are influenced enough to come and visit all because of this one person. Thank you so much for making my birthday truly an amazing time, and thank you for being so amazing and having such a beautiful energy.
Thank you to our server, Hannah. She is a great waitress and made sure we were always taken care of no matter how busy the restaurant was. Five stars too the restaurant & 10 stars to Hannah. Middletown NY
My family and I went out to dinner for my son’s birthday, he loves seafood. There were about 15 of us and, we had Michael as a server. He was patient, helpful and an overall amazing server. The food was correct and delicious. Michael made our time special and had us fed in a timely fashion. He truly needs recognition.
Since this was the day after thanksgiving I feel like the crowds were small, seating was instant and food was delivered promptly. We had an amazing server and the food was phenomenal. Usually the menu pictures look better than the food, but this time the food and drinks looked better than the menu. Shrimp po’ boys, calamari, catfish po’ boy and shrimp and chips, lobster bisque were amazing. Highly recommend this location. Way better than the ones located in Manhattan, NYC.
Gretchen is the best waitress/server, says the lady that request her every time. A customer service is impeccable, I haven’t been here for a few months. My fiancé said I want the same thing and she knew just what I want. And how I like it. She definitely keeps herself busy and works hard.
The food was absolutely amazing! But the service was better! Rhea was such a sweetheart, a genuine soul. She didn’t rush us, recommended dessert, answered all our questions, and informed us of her favorites to help us decide. I’d come back more-so to see her again!
It was our first time here recently . Wow ! It was better than we expected. The waitress Gretchen was the best! Everyone was so nice . The food was delicious. The fried fish was good as well as the king crab leg boil . We will definitely return. The tables have paper on them w games . We had an amazing experience there. There’s live music on Fridays so we definitely want to go back for that . Welcoming and fun staff , excellent food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My husband and I just had dinner here. We are usually here twice a month. Food is always great but our waiter MICHAEL C made our night. Very attentive, polite and shows exceptional customer service. Thank you again Michael for an exceptional service. I hope I got your name correct.
We went to the Middletown location. The Manager Rob was more than accommodating. The service is so good..my partner and I come there every other day. Paige & Rhea are two of the best servers. The food is really good. Great portion for your money. Also they are very accommodating for everything u ask for. Also exceptional to veterans. Will be back of course.
This was our second time eating at Hook and Reel in Middletown. We are obsessed! The food is perfectly prepared and it’s the best seafood in town! The whole experience is so much fun with the seafood boils, I highly recommend you try them. We got the Reel Catch snow crab and lobster with 2lb of shrimp- Lemon Pepper style- one mild and one spicy. The sauce is so good that it can go with everything!
Our server Rhea was amazing. She was so thoughtful and helpful the entire time. She checked on us, took her time to ensure we had a wonderful time and was just very sweet overall. Thank you!
I recently celebrated my birthday at Hook & Reel, and overall it was a great experience. The food was absolutely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and everything we hoped for. The atmosphere was fun and lively, which made it perfect for a birthday celebration. I also want to compliment the staff because everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The only area that could use some improvement would be the drinks. Unfortunately, they didn’t quite match the quality of the food and overall experience. Aside from that, I had a wonderful time celebrating there and would definitely return for the food and the great service.
Our family really enjoyed our visit here. They got the seafood boils (were very happy with the proportions) and I the Catfish (4/5). Even the 4 y/o had a good time. But, the service from Damien is what made everything so great! He was personable, funny, patient and kind and made it all worth while. Thank you for making a small family outing a special one.
The food and overall experience was great. But the shining star of the experience was our hostess Bella. She was truly amazing. Really friendly, very upbeat and funny, and just carried herself like she was happy to help us and wanted us to have the best experience possible. She was great with suggestions and letting us in on her favorite fits and , which was very helpful for our first time there. In a world where everyone seems like they are “just going through the motions”, it’s truly refreshing to encounter someone so excited and enthusiastic. It turned ”going out to eat “ into a fun and memorable experience.
We spent over $1,000.00 there tonight so you can imagine the amount of food & drinks that we ordered. With 9 kids you can just imagine the "I need this" & "I need thats". The restaurant was super busy for a Saturday night and our waitress Hannah?? Well, let's just say that we couldn't leave the restaurant without requesting to speak to the manager, Rob. Outstanding, on point & honestly just a phenomenal waitress is what Hannah is. An asset to your restaurant is what Hook & Reel needs to know about her. She didnt forget anything and trust me, there were ALOT of add ons.... sodas, beers, napkins, spoons, forks, sauces every single thing we asked for she never forgot a thing even with the restaurant being as busy as it was. Hook & Reel, recognize her!!!! She gives new meaning to over & beyond for the customer. Rob, the manger came to our table to check on our party twice & that shouldn't go unrecognized either. He was so nice & pleasant. Thank you, to Hannah & Rob for making our dinner absolutely perfect. Hook & Reel management, recognize your outstanding employees!! Yet again, Hook & Reel doesn't disappoint. Thank you! Middletown, NY.
Dameon is an absolute standout. From the moment we sat down, his energy, professionalism, and attention to detail set the tone for an exceptional experience. He was knowledgeable, efficient, and genuinely engaging without ever feeling forced. What really elevated the night was the personality he brought to the table. As a fellow anime enthusiast, Dameon effortlessly connected, adding a unique and memorable layer to the service that made the experience feel personal rather than transactional. It’s rare to find someone who can balance top-tier hospitality with authentic character, and he does it flawlessly. If you’re dining here and want elite service with great vibes, ask for Dameon. He’s the kind of server who makes you want to come back, not just for the food, but for the experience.
We finally made it here, and im so glad we did! My husband and I each got the lobster party boil, and even though $60 per person is more than we usually spend, the servings were incredibly generous. We definitely could have shared one entree. The flavor was amazing! Also, the drink was delicious. Our server Gretchen was awesome, and very attentive. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well, and would love to make it back to hear the live music!
No notes. Lily was extremely sweet, had great attention to detail, and helped us through a number of questions we had. Our bartender (didn't catch her name), also super knowledgeable and gave us recommendations to have the best non-alcoholic drink experience. The live music was a great touch as well. Wonderful vibes, immaculate food... the hour drive was worth it. We will definitely be back! 🩷
Gerard was absolutely phenomenal! It was my mom’s first time ever having a seafood boil and we were also celebrating her birthday. From the moment we sat down, he was incredibly informative, patient, and attentive—taking the time to explain everything and making sure she felt confident and excited about her first experience. He truly went above and beyond to make her birthday so special. Exceptional service, amazing energy, and such a memorable experience thanks to Gerard. He is an outstanding server and a true asset to the restaurant!
The food was excellent. The waiter, Gerard, was wonderful and courteous. We returned based on our last experience a few weeks ago. Our waitress during our previous visit was Danielle. She was also wonderful and courteous. The ladies that seated us both times were also welcoming. We will be back soon.
This place was absolutely amazing. I will say that it was on the pricier side but the fish overall was really fresh. I also ended up having the corn put the corn was actually tasted very Frozen which was disappointing because this is not a cheap place to eat. I really don't think that they should be having frozen corn that tastes soggy and overcooked. The staff was really nice and they were considered about food allergies. In the boils they also use real butter so that is important
Definitely need to try. The blue drink in the pineapple glass was amazing (I forgot the name) but we ended up ordering only these after we finished our first round. Strawberry margarita was weak and not for us personally. We got “the reel hook” that included shrimp, clams, carb, lobster tail, mussels in the hook and reel blended sauce mild (does get spicy so beware if you don’t like spice too much). This was spilt between two people. I would recommend going during happy hour if you want to try the drinks because they are pricy and start to add up after a couple which is why we spent 50-60 person. Overall a good place to eat and get a taste of seafood. FYI if you get cold easily then bring a sweater because it’s chilly in there.
I ordered a Shrimp Po' Boy with Hush Puppies, and I must say that both taste very close to my great-grandmother's recipe. The Po'Boy had nice juicy fried shrimp with lettuce & tomatoes sitting on a soft toasted hoagie roll. It was divine along with the sauce. The Hush Puppies were perfectedly fried with a butter sauce. I definitely endorse this business.
I had a great and beautiful lunch at the Middletown location 8 Orange Plaza. I was well taken care of by my AMAZING waitress Cassie, so polite, tentative and wonderful she is.
Service was great. Tati V was our Server and she was very pleasant and knowledgeable. If you come here, please ask for her. Food was tasty. The drinks were great. Good place for a date night. We had the Reel’s Catch and it was great.
Had the best experience thanks to my server Gretchen! She made sure that my daughters first seafood boil experience was a great one! Her level of customer service is what's missing in the service industry!
Very nice experience, the waitress was very nice and didn't rush anyone. Appetizer of coconut shrimp was very good with large shrimp. I had a boil and my wife had a shrimp Po boy. The food was very good and the white sangria was great. Dessert was a bit pricey for bombas.
Decided to go in and check it out on a Saturday while shopping around the area. Cassie was our server that evening. SHE WAS AWESOME! Little guy was pretty cranky from shopping all day and she had us all laughing shortly after being seated. She smiled the entire time and tended to our little guy while we got to eat hot food! Parents you know what I’m talking about !! Check them out and ask for Cassie! See you soon and Thank You!
The seafood is delicious!! The family dinner platter is my family’s go to order, with the Cajun sauce. It is the perfect amount of food for four people, if not too much food. The price is very reasonable. My only complaint is that their appetizers are not very good, basically flavorless. The “garlic” breadsticks are just bread and the mozzarella sticks could be better. But if you’re a seafood lover this is a good place for just that!
Everything was nice from the hostess at the door to our waitress Shenera, who was very patient with us while we decided on what to get. I’m sure I would return again at some point. The prices weren’t to outrageous.A 1/2 pound of shrimp with the head-off was $11 The king crab legs in the picture was $66 you also get some small potatoes and 1/2 corn cob and can pay for extra add-ins like egg, noodles, sausage, more potatoes or corn. We got the special blend sauce-mild which was very good. The complementary prawn chips was a nice added touch. The restaurant is beautiful and very spacious. I definitely would go again and hopefully I get the same experience. The only complaint I have is the barnacles that fell off the crab legs into the sauce and made things crunchy when you dipped the seafood into it. I wish they had cleaned those off the crab.
Lobster bisque left much to be desired, the crab boil was very good, though. Service was good, waitress took the lobster bisque off the ticket since it was barely touched. She was friendly and efficient. Nice spacious dining area, variety of items on the menu. Paper tablecloths to keep the young ones busy. The shrimp crisps that they bring to the table are so good!
Huge restaurant! Very clean. Nice big bar area. The staff seemed very friendly and our food was served within 10 minutes at lunchtime. We ordered a boil. Delicious muscles and crab and shrimp. The Cajun spice was lacking just a little something for us, but it was still good. The only negative was that we needed more water and the waitress had not come back around. But we were not dying. The ladies' bathroom stalls were super narrow but clean. It's such a big place. I'm looking forward to going back.
Dameon was cool, helpful and entertaining. Crab legs were great. The H&R special spices is really good! A little spicy but really good. Not a fan of the chips they give you at the table.
Loved the food. First time going there and while there was a long wait time when you ask for the table, our group got seated relatively quickly. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was because our waitress wasn’t very attentive with us or ask us if we had been there before to be able to explain the menu to us. Update: I dropped them another star because I had the same waitress on another visit and she was still terrible. It seems to be the norm there since they forgot another gentleman and he got so frustrated that he left. I’ve since then also ordered food to go and got burnt wings…you’re probably asking why I’m ordering this from a seafood spot but the first time I had these wings, they were so delicious that I was craving them. This is just disappointing.
There was a little wait, 5 minutes, for a table. We're arrived st 5:45pm. The table was roomy and chairs were comfortable. We ordered 2 appetizers, fried calamari and the crab bites. The calamari was ok(wouldn't order again) the crab bites were good. I was surprise there were no plates on the table and none were offered.my grandaughter ordered the fried catfish basket. First time trying catfish. She said it was good but to much breading not enough fish. I had the crab leg and scallop boil with potatoes and a 1/3 rd ear of corn.the crab legs, scallops and potatoes were delicious. The corn on the other hand must have been cooking in water for hours, one bite was enough. I was thankful for the bib. I was dismayed at the lack of adequate knapkins. They are very tiny, thin and inadequate to keep your hands and face clean.the wet naps were helpful. The ambience was nice, the music was good not so much the singing.... Overall I enjoyed my meal. Will dine here again in the future The restaurant was getting very busy as we're were leaving. I'd suggest reservations. I must say there were plenty of servers available. Also the tablecloth kept us entertained til the apps arrived.
My first visit to this establishment. We were seated and tended to fairly quickly. It's a very large place with nice motif. The music was way too loud and not the type of music you would expect to hear in a restaurant. This was more the level and style of a night club. If you want to only attract a younger, less financially secure clientele, than you need to change that scene. I also noticed a number of waitresses with nothing to do except play with their hair and run their fingers through it. Not something you want to do on the sales floor in an eatery. Are you paying attention management? I started with clam chowder soup, which was pretty good. My main meal was served in an inflated plastic bag. I had to ask what this was as I have never had a meal served in that fashion. Turns out you dump it on the very large shallow plate. Some assembly required, I guess. I had scallops , which were steamed well. I asked for a mild sauce, but it was quite spicey. I cant imagine what the spicey seasoning must be like. Hush puppies were pretty good as was the shrimp basket. The take away: not sure I will return as the atmosphere left quite a bit to be desired; and the food is so-so. I think management needs to be changed to better serve older paying clientele (I am 60) and not just cater to the 20 year olds who are working there. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
I have been here a couple of times. I enjoyed it. This was the first time I wasn't happy. I ordered wings and it was still raw in the inside. I told the waitress she did apologies but that was all that came form in. Not one manager came to even apologies or see what happened. We continued to eat our boil. And it was so salty. The potatoes were under cooked. And the bomba was terrible. Not sure what happened this day. But they were not as good as the other many times we have been here. The waitress her self was nice and friendly. Disappointed in the lack of management and poor food quality.
Visit #1 This is a fun new addition to Middletown! Great cocktails and really fresh and flavorful food. The margarita was a little weak/flavorless, but the Pina coladas were really good and the shrimp and crab in the reel’s catch were fresh and flavorful (and a massive portion!). Our server Amber couldn’t have been more attentive and welcome, she’s great! Visit #2 Oooof. Night and day from our first visit. If this was the first time we came, we’d never come back. We got the happy hour shrimp basket and calamari, both were so over fried. The calamari was pure rubber bands and the shrimp was nothing like the fresh, flavorful shrimp from visit one. We also split the seafood pasta and were really disappointed. It came out with the sauce congealed like it had been sitting out for a long time before being brought to the table. The “marinara” tasted to be at least 2/3 ketchup. The shrimp was tough and the mussels were pretty fishy and gross. The first time we came was a Friday and this recent visit was a Wednesday, wondering if they have the A Team on for weekends? Will try one more time and will have two new rules in mind- don’t order anything fried and only get the boils. This was super disappointing.
I’m giving this restaurant 2 star only due to poor service. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back because of a disappointing experience. 1-The complimentary appetizers were not served at the beginning. I had to ask for them, and they were brought at the very end. 2-Also, the table was not cleaned before bringing out the birthday cake, which made the moment feel less special. The food was good, especially the shrimp, which is why I’m giving 2 star.
My husband is from New Orleans. So he wanted to try this place. Mind you, we've never had great experiences at restaurants in New York or the surrounding area that claim to serve "New Orleans style" or "Cajun" food. I ordered a Seafood Tower because treat yo' self. My husband ordered a catfish po' boy. My Seafood Tower consisted of some snow crab legs, some shrimp, a lobster tail, and a half a dozen oysters. I LOVE oysters! I have never had worse oysters in my life. Oysters are supposed to taste like the ocean. It literally tasted like they washed the shucked oysters. Oysters from a can probably would have been preferable to these absolutely flavorless frozen oysters. The rest of the shellfish was decent. Nothing outstanding. And when I asked for butter, I got a plastic cup filled to the freaking meniscus. So, of course I managed to spill some on myself. The po' boy did not impress my husband. Bland and flavorless. Cajun fries means lots of Old Bay. Just completely underwhelming. We will not be making a return visit. The waitress was perfectly nice and did a good job. No complaints there. My husband said he would like to see people who eat here try real Cajun seafood so they can see the difference.
My mother and I had a delicious crab dinner. It's was relatively inexpensive for a seafood restaurant. Service was good-Food was excellent! Can't wait to return. **11/29/24** Update on a return visit: It's 6pm on a Friday night. We walk in the place is pretty empty. We're seated. 11 minutes and no one came to the table to take our drink order. There are 7 workers standing at the end of the bar talking amongst themselves. 3 servers standing at the cashier talking. 13 minutes in no one still. We got up and left. It's my Birthday 🥳 Really disappointed and conflicted 😠 Do we bother to go back ever again? In my current disappointment state -we probably won't. Sadly I'm a burn me once kind of person.
