Cool vibe walking in with a nice big bar area, plenty of dining room tables as well. Julie took great care of us. We got some oysters (South Bay Blonde MA & Beau Soleil NB) which they always have a decent selection depending on what texture and briny liquor you like. Got the Connecticut Lobster Roll (it’s warm) had a great amount of lobster meat and flavor with the butter, lemon, and quality bread. The Cajun corn with hot Cheetos was soo good making a great meal. Then I got the Key Lime 🍋‍🟩 pie to go so I had a treat later. It was fresh, great flaky crust that held together nicely. And don’t sleep on their Brunch Menu. Pay yourself a visit asap! Your tummy will thank you. 😁

Great atmosphere, fresh tasting lobster. They have a nice selection, including a kids menu. The food and service were great. If your looking for a cheap plane to eat, this isn't it. But if you want great seafood at a decent price... You can't beat Smack Shack!

I love this place. I went for my birthday dinner. I had most food from the happy hour menu. I had a fish taco, lil chicken slider and 18 oysters and 2 glasses of wine. I also had a key lime pie for my birthday. I was impressed with everything. I'll be back!

Had a wonderful anniversary dinner here! London H, our server, was fantastic and our food was delicious! Price is high, but fair for seafood, and there are many options on the menu that are in the $20 range as well. I definitely recommend the crab cakes! They tasted so good we didn't get a photo!

The chicken was fried to perfection and delicious. I had to get extra sauce to dip my fries in. Great place to grab a bite to eat.

I am astonished at how good my meal and service were. The server gave recommendations and asked several times how my meal was. I highly recommend the lobster rolls which they are famous for, and king size it for even more lobster meat! Their drinks are amazing also!

A few of the orders we had in pictures were all delicious. The toast with the mussels was excellent. It's very tasty. The lobster was good also. Basically, all entries ordered tastes great. The prices were a little high, but it was worth it. Perfect for special occasions. Highly recommended.

This was our first time in and we loved the place. Good atmosphere, a great bar and solid service made for a good start, but the food was the star of the show! We only had time for a light lunch, so we did a Lobster Roll and it was phenomenal. Can’t wait yo stop hag again soon to have another and to dig into the rest of the menu. If you like seafood and good value, do yourself a big favor and stop in!

It’s all about the Cioppino, the oysters are wonderful. Service was a little slow, but that is better than being hurried. Did I mention the Cioppino?

This seafood based restaurant is amazing. The atmosphere is light and full, the staff was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We went for restaurant week and a few of our party of 7 ordered off that menu. I on the uther hand went with the Jambalaya and was not disappointed. I have had Jambalaya at Mothers restaurant in New Orleans, and this was far superior. Keep up the good work.

First time visiting this place and we loved it. The place is beautiful, waitress was amazing and food was absolutely delicious. It's definitely a seafood restaurant but that burger was perfectly cooked. They a great sauce that I used for the fries. Hubby loved the Lobster Mac and cheese. Will definitely come back.

Excellent spot! The shrimp po boy was outstanding. Crab cakes were super good. Lobster rolls were heaping with claw meat. Shrimp on the bruchetta were huge. Mac & cheese was a bust for us, but apparently its popular. Service was friendly and prompt. Happy Hour specials start at 3pm. Will be back!!

We had oysters on the half shell and they were delicious. We also ordered the Aji poke and it came with this wonderful rice underneath it. It is absolutely to die for and so yummy so balanced and the whiskey list was awesome. Great place.

Fantastic seafood is not easy to find in the twin cities. But I really enjoyed the food at Smack Shack. Great atmosphere complimented the food.

Gorgeous atmosphere! The food is awesome!! Everything was perfectly cooked and to correct temperatures. The lobster rolls, shack burger and lobster scrambled eggs were excellent choices for a meal! The cajun fries are addictingly tasty - perfect amount of zest and kick - super fresh! Service was a little slower, but we didn’t have anywhere we needed to be, so I truly didn’t mind. It takes about 25-30 minutes to receive your food for 3 people. I will say just as a suggestion, it would probably be better to introduce servers to the customers within the first 2 minutes of sitting down. It took about about 6-7 minutes before we were greeted by our server. Overall, happy with our visit and we look forward to returning.

Happy Hour at Smack Shack is absolutely fantastic. We had a wonderful time, and the food was delicious. The fresh oysters and the lobster rolls were the best I've ever tasted. Personally, I preferred the Connecticut style over the classic one. The addition of the crab cake slider and the moules frites made the experience even more delightful. I found the jumbo shrimp avocado a bit too sour for my liking. The Happy Hour offerings at Smack Shack provide exceptional value for the quality of food. It's not only a fantastic spot for Happy Hour, but also an excellent choice for Brunch. I was blown away by their Grand Shack Tower, both in terms of decoration and taste—it was a true masterpiece. The high-quality lobster rolls and fresh oysters have made me a repeat customer. The restaurant's amazing ambiance adds to the overall dining experience, and the service is always super friendly and helpful. Whether you're looking to hang out with coworkers after work or planning a special date night, Smack Shack is the perfect place to go. The combination of delicious food, great vibes, and excellent service makes it a standout destination.

Service seems to be hit or miss here. We were sat in a booth without menus. The servers aren't great about keeping beverages filled at the table. I often find myself wishing I could get a refill of a beverage or even just a refill of water. The last visit in August 2024, I was served the thinnest $32 lobster roll I've ever gotten at this restaurant. All previous rolls were usually stuffed with giant pieces of lobster sticking out of the sandwich. It was still delicious, just not as big as usual. The cheesecake and key lime pie were delicious.

Stopped by for lunch. It was happy hour! We sat on the patio. Great sized patio and bar inside. We ordered drinks, I ordered the Hurricane. Very smooth and tasty. Order food. Shrimp Po’ Boy and Loster Roll sandwich. Both were very good. I love the menu-lots of variety. Great service. We will back again.

My wife and I were visiting from California and wanted a taste of Minnesota (I wanted seafood period). I savored the prawn boil along with Minnesota's own Northern Soda. The slaw was cool and tingly; perfect on a warm day. It was a delight to sit in the covered patio area while absorbing the sights and sounds of the locale. My honey enjoyed her fish and chips with iced tea and felt satiated. Our server was personable and attentive. Worth trying again and again. Sidenote: there is gambling on site. I am not familiar with local gaming practices. There was a woman in a cage selling Keno cards near the bar area.

I will say, every time I’m in the Bloomington area I have to go to this place for drinks and dinner. The service is amazing and the food is always spot on. I love coming here for Sunday brunch, for a great lunch, and also for an amazing dinner. Don’t sleep on Smack Shack is all I can say…..go and enjoy. B

We enjoyed our experience at Smack Shack. We didn't have reservations and were immediately seated toward the outside wall of the bar, overlooking the bar & restaurant. Our server, Taylor, was friendly, polite, and made sure we enjoyed our meal. The fish & chips were delicious, not to mention huge portions. My hubby had a Po Boy & lobster mac & cheese, which was so rich & creamy...yummy! I highly recommend Smack Shack if you're looking for great seafood, just be prepared to pay a little more, as prices have increased (well worth it)!

Outstanding and VERY professional staff. They were ALL accommodating, respectful, and helpful. Very clean and well prepared tables and floors is a good example of this establishment The FOOD is DELICIOUS. I had the Lobster Roll and it was INSANELY GOOD. The portion is quoted large, especially with French fries so bring your appetite. I haven’t been to a happy hour yet, but the menu and prices make it seem worthwhile. I will 100% be back soon. ENJOY!

Lots of dining space. Indoor and outdoor. Friendly servers. Lobster bisque is a must try. Not the best I’ve had but it’s on my top 5 list. Lobster rolls are worth the money. Connecticut style is my fav! And you can king size it! Shrimp cocktail is a heavenly display of JUMBO shrimp! Drinks are pretty average. Not strong not weak. Friday night and Saturday nights after 10 is for you if your into live Dj and fun social atmosphere.

Wow, great place!!! So good. The California Crab Roll I had was delicious. My wife loved the shrimp and grits. Our friends had a Shrimp Po Boy and the Lobster Cordon Bleu Roll. Both were fabulous! I chose the Cheech Spicy Tequila drink and followed it up with the Chong Three Rum Pinapple cocktail.

Saturday lunch. We arrived just before the lunch rush hit. Good ambiance and service. The food was outstanding - fresh and full of flavor! The Fried Green Tomatoes were amazing; tart and delectable. The Fresno Peppers were sneaky good. A word of advice to the Minnesota pallet, remove the seeds or you will feel the afterburn a minute later. The crab cakes are light and savory. Every item we had was better than the last. Worth the visit! Save room for dessert? The key lime pie and beignets are incredibly good. The beignets travel well if you are out of room and want to enjoy later.

Smack Shack is close to where I am and always drives by. Restaurant week was the reason for trying this place out after previewing the lunch menu. I read reviews from others and decided before walking in. The appetizer, Lobster Guacamole, was freshly made, with fresh elements of tomato and crispy radish slices and chunks of lobster. I did add the Craigs Cry Baby hot sauce as I like dimension. The Original Lobster Roll was my lunch choice based on reviews and amazed! The succulent lobster in a creamy condiment (guessing mayo based), diced cucumber, and fresh tarragon (a mild licorice taste) stuffed a beautifully buttery, toasted milk bread. The lobster roll stayed together, not messy, and each bite was delightful. I know salt is by choice, but I felt it needed a little flavor boost. I used the same hot sauce to be that for a well constructed roll! Dessert was not part of the restaurant week lunch menu, but do try their key lime pie! I am guessing the crust was something of a shortbread and a key lime custard to fill it. I love dessert, but not so sweet types. Their key lime pie with a light whip cream on top and a strawberry coulis was a match made in heaven.

That Sunday DJ Kasper saved my life! We we having our monthly meet up in the “Red Zone.” The atmosphere was ⚡️ the food although nothing to scream about was nice. Please put some seasoning on the blackened salmon…🧐 Heather our waitress was very attentive making sure everyone was taken care of and the mimosa’s kept coming 🥳 the ladies were very happy. I can say it truly was “A Boogie Down Brunch!” Of course I couldn’t help but to dance the music was 🔥 Thanks to management for mingling with the dining room sets the tone for a welcoming environment 👌🏾we had an awesome time ❤️❤️❤️

All the food delicious. Guacamole, I could have just had, for my meal. They will chuck the crab for you for $10 a pound. If you like seafood I would definitely add this place to your list to try.

My wife and I gave this place a try and definitely a great experience! I had the Jambalaya and my wife had the Lobster Roll Connecticut. We shared the jalapeño cornbread with honey butter and Clam Chowder. The drinks were absolutely fantastic too. Jambalaya - It was on the spicy side, more so than normal but I LOVED that and copious amounts of Shrimp, Sausage and chicken. I definitely give it a 8/10. I highly suggest this if you’re considering. Lobster Roll Connecticut - it’s a very fresh sandwich with great amounts of lobster. No crazy bells and whistles. Just an amazing sandwich that will fulfill that lobster craving. Jalapeño Bread / Honey Butter - it wasn’t spicy as one would thing but a great contrast of flavor. You get that great flavor of Jalapeño but not spicy. The honey butter is a must and I ordered extra. LoL: ) not overly sweet either. Clam Chowder - It’s a creamy clam chowder and is what you think it would be. Fantastic ! Great amount of clam and I highly suggest adding a couple dashes of hot sauce. Don’t bash that till you try it. - Beau Geer President of Xtreme Pest Solutions Owner of Taco Johns Savage / Rosemount

It’s the best Happy Hour EVER! It’s from 2-6 and they have every thing from Tina Poke Wraps, to Fried Shrimp to Oysters. Prices for HH food range from 5-10 dollars and also have a great selection of happy hour drinks as well! Always fast & friendly service. I’ve been going to the Smack Shack downtown for ten years, but love this one even more now. Tons of free parking!

It was hopping in here for a Sunday night! Everything we ate was delicious. The fried green tomatoes were some of the best I’ve had. The swordfish was cooked perfectly, and the swordfish schnitzel was a great take on it. My friend had the lobster boil and really enjoyed it. Bartender Jim was great, really personable and friendly. The epitome of actual Minnesota nice. We will for sure be back!

First visit to Smack Shack in Bloomington and we loved it. We stopped in by chance and were greeted right away by a friendly hostess who seated us quickly. Before we even got our coats off, Julie had water on the table and walked us through the happy hour specials. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and Julie made the whole experience a blast. We’ll definitely be back — and we’ll be asking for her.

We had great service from London for my son’s birthday, party of 6. We started with the crab cakes. They had great flavor and a little kick. Two of us split the crab leg boil, other orders from our party were the lobster Mac n cheese, jambalaya, fish and chips and salmon and risotto. Everyone loved their food and had no criticism to say except they would have liked more lobster in the Mac n cheese

Good food in a friendly family restaurant. Can accommodate a large group. We celebrated a birthday and received a key lime dessert with a candle. Thanks

We stopped in for lunch on a Friday. The place was busy but not slammed. We were in a booth in the main dining room, which had a high ceiling and rope decorations along a ocean-faring theme. Service was initially quite slow--it took a while to get our drinks and appetizer--but after that, everything was perfectly paced, with our server checking often to see if we liked everything or were in need of more drinks. Smack Shack has a pretty big drink menu. My husband had a beer from on on tap, and I was happy that they had local cider. We had to try the lobster poutine as an appetizer. I wasn't sure what to expect, as the very concept sounds like it may be sacrilegious to my Canadian friends, but wow, this dish was GOOD. Flavor-packed without being hot-spicy. Loads of quality fries topped with sauce, cheese, and a nice helping of tender lobster. Honestly, this place would be worth the visit just for this extraordinary plate. My husband went with traditional fish and chips and really enjoyed them. The breading was quite crisp and thick. I chose the crab cake niçoise salad. The crab cakes were fantastic. As with the poutine, lots of flavorful spice without heat. The combo of Bibb lettuce, green beans, potatoes, and boiled egg was so classic, and so very good. It was nice to eat something light and healthy after the indulgent appetizer! We were both quite full at that point so we didn't have a dessert, but the options sounded nice. This is definitely a place I would visit again based on the fantastic food. The menu is huge and there were many things that sounded interesting.

The space is fun and the service is friendly and prompt, the food is good, but the food menu is tiny! There were three pages of beverages and maybe a page and a half of foods. I was really excited to go and was a little bit disappointed.

Let’s get the negatives out of the way…. Crab cakes were bland, shrimp cocktail was extremely tough - very disappointing. However, the raw oysters were fresh and delicious. The lobster in the Connecticut Style was amazing, even tho the sandwich itself needed something more. The Southern fried chicken sandwich was unexpectedly flavorful, great job on that one. Not sure how we both ordered a side of fries and mine came plain while hers was full of a wonderful Cajun like seasoning. The service was really great. We sat at the bar and the staff really know their Tequila. We were treated to an impromptu Tequila tasting, which was by far the best part about the experience!! Thank you!!!!

I had the lobster mac with a double portion of lobster meat. Also, we did the wings and drinks too. The food is good for sure. The prices in my opinion are 20% higher than they should be for what you get. 5 star service from Gustovo. He was on top of our table and made sure everything was perfect. Service matters to me and he delivered.

We sat in a large area with many tables that was air conditioned to a perfect temp but had wonderful views of their patio with beautiful flowers and greenery. I had the halibut with ajo blanco and caulilini. It was very good except the sauce wasn't hot; it was room temp. But the fish was perfect so I didn't mind. The corn bread was warm and delicious. My manhattan was a good value (happy hour price) and came with the shaker ice, as requested. Our water glasses were refilled often, and we were always asked before they took our plates and glasses away (which was great since someone wanted to take away my shaker glass of ice). Normally I have the shrimp avocado toast which the happy hour menu which is delicious and a great value.

⌚ after looking at our menus for about 20 minutes a waitress actually took our orders. 🥤 soda refills were very hard to come by. 🦞 the original cold lobster salad roll was really awesome 👍 🦞 the Connecticut style lobster roll was really good 👍 🍴 half way through the meal we ask for napkins. We never got or were offered any cutlery. 🫕 they brought the wrong sauce for the dessert. All in all the food is really good, but service not quite to my expectations at the price mark.

D

We got the lobster roll. It was good but small portion for what you pay. $35 is pretty steep for a sandwich. Every one raved about it so I thought okay it will be worth it. Not so much.

A

Service was excellent, but the food was a letdown. I understand prices have gone up, but pairing higher prices with portion sizes that felt almost nonexistent was hard to justify. I’ve been to the downtown Smack Shack many times and usually enjoy it, but the Edina location’s flavors came across as pretty basic and underwhelming.

k
klassick

way over priced for over salted crab that we paid 59.99 per lb. Order 2 lbs and a shack burger that was pretty good, but small. The kid ordered lobster Mac n cheese that he returned because it was over salted. Alcoholic drinks were $20+. Almost $400 for three meals and 2 appetizers and 1 alcoholic drink. Nothing stood out. Nobody was impressed.

First time at Smack Shack (Bloomington, MN) location. We waited for a special occasion to use a $100 gift card there. My husband ordered a $67 meal that included two 1" square pieces of steak, asparagus and a small lobster tail. I ordered the small lobster Mac & cheese. Seriously, a child would have been hungry after this tiny 6 oz. cup of Mac & Cheese. It consisted of elbow noodles and a dry paste of cheese for what should have been a creamy cheese sauce. We asked for the lobster bit on the side which came in a 1 oz. metal cup. It was that SMALL for $20! HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. We actually left the restaurant that we paid $100 for a special meal that was pitifully tiny and tasteless-- yet we were STILL HUNGRY. They should be ashamed of their tiny portion sizes. What should have been a special night out celebrating my husband's birthday was woefully disappointing.

We went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was underwhelming to say the least. I ordered the salmon and it was under seasoned. The salmon was placed skin side down and the skin tasted metallic. The vegetables served with it were grilled cucumber?, The grilled top of a zucchini, and a top of some sort of squash. It was really strange. My husband ordered the steak but when it came out it looked like it had been cooked at low heat for a while because it was pale brown and rubbery. It was not good. He had the same vegetables. The sides we ordered for the table were the wild mushrooms and the fries which were better than our entrees. The crab cakes we ordered for appetizers were also alright. Our server was great, even though the food was meh. The decor was top notch. We sat outside on the porch and the lighting and everything was really nice.

C

Host said they couldn’t seat us inside because there were no tables available. The restaurant had at least 15 indoor tables open throughout the restaurant (photos attached). Very confused why they told us this. Our server London was friendly and accommodating. I do not blame her for the food being extremely slow. It took about 40 minutes to get an appetizer and sandwich. I can’t imagine what it would be like if the restaurant was at full capacity. The buffalo wings were alright, not bad and nothing special. The southern fried sandwich was not great. I’m not sure how they cooked this but the edge of the chicken was hard to bite which was unexpected. Maybe I should have ordered something else but for my experience and meal, this place deserves 2 stars

Got together with a few coworkers of mine. Everything looks good but I was VERY VERY disappointed in the Lobster. The butter was off, food was lukewarm. The lobster was VERY bland tasting. We waited 30 mins to be seated, the waiter was VERY SLOW. We were seated at 3pm and didn’t leave until 5:30pm. WAY over priced. I would check out their menu before going because it is very limited. And pricey starter “apps”.

We visited on a Friday night. We were excited for some great seafood. We had mussels and crab cakes as our appetizer. Both were good, the mussels were delicious with a delicious broth. We ordered an extra crab cake but it didn’t come out, so had to be sent later. The whole lobster looked amazing and included corn, sausage and potatoes as a part of the boil. The lobster tail was tough and nearly inedible. But the legs were very tasty. Stuffed salmon was delicious! And so was the shrimp and grits. The main issue was service. Jessica also had a high roller table next to us so most of her focus was with them. She even had a shot with them while we were there. She didn’t check back on drinks and only only checked with us one time after the food arrived. We waited a long time after we were done eating before she finally stopped to see if we wanted dessert, but we just wanted our check. By this time the restaurant was clearing out but the table next to us was still there. It took a very long time to get our check and then for it to come back for signature.

Before I say anything, I want to be clear, we're not new to sea food or the cuisine. Every once in awhile we'll go all out on our own Craw fish boil. Making everything for a family event... But lets cut to now. So my wife got a few oysters, the Connecticut (warm) lobster roll with collard greens. I got the Jambalaya. While she liked the oysters, she liked the two more then the first (they were supposed to be a trio, as in 3 different ones) the first was a sweet petite and the other two were island creek. So not 3 different ones. Ok, on to the mains. The lobster roll got soggy really fast, even though it was toasted, collard greens were salty but not bad. My Jambalaya tasted amazing and was way more then I could eat at one time. It even included a toasted roll to make a sandwich or whatever. Here's the problem... My wife got sick about 20 minutes after eating. She called and talked to someone, then a manager who assured after some "investigating" that all the temps were correct and that all the sea food was just delivered the day before. Ya a likely story. Needless to say she threw up all of her dinner. They said they would mail us a $50 gift card for our future visit. This took place yesterday Aug 12th, my wife's birthday. Now today, I felt sick, with stomach pain, like nothing I've ever experienced. Not to the point of vomiting but irregardless it impacted my work day. A possible $50 gift card to a place we never visit again, on a $90 tab feels like a slap in the face to say the least.
