This review was on a Sunday @11am. A group of 6 of us, and a little puppy, decided to eat there for lunch. We were craving a nice hot noodle spot. This place showed up on my search nearest me at the time. It was my first time there, I'm from out of town. We chose to eat outside of course, be it, we did have a dog with us. My first impression was that all the staff members were very friendly. The menu were easy to understand and they even gave us recommendations of what there favorite food choice was to help. THEY EVEN OFFERED TO BRING A BOWL OF WATER FOR THE PUP! That right there speaks volumes for an unexpected service. We were touched and thankful. We were off on a awesome start. Service was excellent 👌 Now for the food. For appetizers I had the garlic edamame, agedashi tofu, and fried gyoza. For the main dish I chose the GarlicTonkatsu ramen🤤. The garlic edamame was the first of its kind that I had. It was unique, at least to me. I expected the edemame to be boiled and lightly seasoned with salt, you know the usual way, but it was different this time. I want to say it was stir fried with chili oil and seasoned with garlic. I must say it was delicious. I ate the whole thing🤣. As for the agedashi and fried gyoza, it's tasted what I expected it to taste. Although I must say It's a simple dish, but the eye candy perspective was executed well. It was adorned with a nice green lettuce with he highlighted purple cabbage. Very fancy🤩. The ramen: on the menu it doesn't say spicy. I asked our waitress about it has she said they can add the spicy oil on the side. That was perfect. The food did not take long to arrive, and when it did the presentation was definitely Instagram worthy🤣. The presentation was all there. With the pork on the side, the ramen noodle in the center, the egg slightly to the left side, and that creamy broth is what dreams are made of🥲🤤👌. Before adding the chili sauce I tasted the broth, it is a MUST DO for any soup in my opinion. And it did not disappoint. The flavor was well-balanced not overly salted and had a great aroma. When I added the chili oil, it became perfection to my taste buds. Yes it was DAMN GOOD! I did not add any other seasonings. I had no complaints. I was in a happy place😌🥰. All together for me and my GF it was $95 with gratuity included. Being in the Bay Area it's about that's about the cost I expected, but the food and service was well worth it for us. I felt like giving the cook a high five🖐💥🖐. Ambience: outside dining, well shaded, the tents were a little low but caution signs were well posted, simple and easily serves large groups up to 8. Food: hot, warm, delicious met my expectations Service: friendly, attentive, and very accommodating to our little pup with us. BIG ups for the pet accommodation. Cons: the only bad thing that comes to mind was just that low tent height (I'm 5'8), but to be honest it really wasn't that bad. I have no comments for the inside dining.
A nice place for an outing with family or friends. Easy parking, not as crowded as other sushi places we go to. Extensive menu and good food. Service was great, and we liked the overall ambiance (high ceiling, stylish interior).
I frequently visit and am always greeted with amazing customer service, caring staff and even better food! Prices are also great. Thank you, 88! New review: 88 is consistently amazing and I am always excited to come back. Their sushi chefs are ALWAYS delivering delicious, fresh art and the Tonkotsu Ramen is my biggest weakness🥹🙏. Thank you again, 88!
Today I had the pleasure to meet our incredible host Candy. It was my fiancé and I first time at this sushi restaurant. She made us feel welcome and was very knowledgeable about the food. The ambiance was perfect and everything we are looking for in “our new place” for dinning. Food is fresh and made in a timely matter. I will definitely be coming back and telling all my friends about this amazing gem in Mountain View! Compliments to the owners!
Went during lunch time and got seated right away. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen and the broth had good flavor. My friend got the Cherry Blossom Roll and the tuna was fresh. The customer service was great. Would definitely go back.
When you stop by, ask for the server Get. He has always been incredibly friendly, conversational, and prompt with service. From our first trip, all the way to feeling like sushi 88 pro’s, Get has taken care of us and has remembered our likes! Fantastic place to eat. Thank you very much Get! We are excited to eat here every time!
I've come to avoid all-you-can-eat sushi places as I've never found one that has fresh fish. My team from work had a dinner here and I must say, I loved it! Tons of selection of "premium" rolls and super fresh. I've been back several times and never had a bad meal. Also, service is excellent.
We had a wonderful dinner at the sushi bar. The fish was super fresh and rolls were interesting according to my friends that had sushi. I had the katsu curry don which was so delicious and clearly made from scratch. The sushi chef provided great service and chatted up with us while we asked all the questions! Highly recommend if you’re in the area :)
Always fun to enjoy some good food!
Sushi 88 & Ramen is the best Sushi restaurant in the area. All the staff and chefs are very friendly and helpful. I have only had their Sushi. I've ordered platters from them twice for two different event, both times they were huge successes. I've also brought in large parties (15+ people) and small parties. Every time the service was fantastic. I always have the hot tea and my friend always has a Diet Coke. Our glasses will never hit the halfway mark without getting topped off. My friends and I don't eat shellfish and they have been really great at providing great options using the fish we can eat. Their fried and baked rolls are favorites among my friends. I will even admit to dropping in once just for a single hand roll as a snack! For me, a friendly and outgoing staff is very important at a restaurant plan to frequent. Sushi 88 & Ramen takes the pie. While some people have complained about pricing, I would rather pay extra for great service than pay less for even normal service. Thanks Sushi 88!
Fabulous family-run spot in Mountain View! Beat out all the other sushi places on Castro st by a longshot. The quality of their fish is showcased by their ability to cut and slice it delicately. And they are a bit more traditional on their flavor profile, which is a HUGE plus in my book. They are going through a soft re-launch and are very passionate about bringing in some new flair while also staying true to their roots. They've been in the business for over 10 years so I can't wait to return and see what else they bring to the table.
Very nice restaurant in a convenient spot. The food (ramen) was okay compared to other places, but not bad. It's a good comfy place if you want to just grab a bite from a large menu selection. Service was excellent and everyone was quite welcoming!
One of our neighborhood go to spots. Great sushi, love the bento boxes. Always fresh and tasty and great service.
Tasty and fresh sushi! The jalapeno appetizer is one of our favorites as well as the crispy gyoza. For sushi I usually go for any of the dragon rolls as I'm not a fan of any raw fish items. Tempura is also good. Good customer service experiences so far. I haven't tried the ramen so I can't really say if it is a good spot for ramen. As of now our favorite sushi place so far in Mountain View.
Very good sushi, but the price of the all you can eat is approaching too much. Have been here a number of times and always enjoy the food overall though I don't recommend the baked rolls or the cherry blossom as the tuna was a little too light colored the last 2 times. The roll with crab and tempura shrimp with salmon on top is my favorite.
Real cute recently remodeled space. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable on the menu, making it a really cozy spot to grab lunch or dinner. I really enjoyed and recommend their sake flights :)
Amazing place to eat a nice bowl of ramen 🍜 It was a really nice surprise to be so welcomed by the staff, a shout for Candy's service ☺️, and for the amazing food, well seasoned and the freshness of the ingredients... And don't get me started on the noodles perfect concistensy... Right on the mark. Thank you guys for the dinner you provided and the nice chilled and family environment of your restaurant 🙏
Amazing fresh fish. Completely remodeled. Great food! Visited many times. Always great quality.
Ordered for take out. Tried the spicy miso ramen and it was absolutely amazing! So good that I didn't take pictures before eating it all! Will definitely be returning!
Simply incredible. The best hamachi I’ve ever had, melts in your mouth. The ramen was perfectly spicy…don’t forget dessert for handmade Mochi doughnut holes. Family owned - they take so much pride and have great vendors that give fresh food. Blown away, will be back!
Ducked in this quaint sushi place for a quick mid-workday lunch. Service was prompt and courteous. Ramen and nigiri were delicious, with thoughtful but not fussy presentation. Check for 2 was $37 before tip, which is great for sushi (but probably pricier for dinner). Would recommend for lunch, definitely!
Absolutely great food! Nothing to say other than just come to this place, support your local businesses, and you really won't regret it. Best handroll and that eighty-eight roll...👏👏👏 Only tiny issue...I wish the lighting was a bit dimmer. The brightness is like a hospital, but again, tiny issue. Remember to tip well when the sushi is good...that takes a well-trained sushi chef! They deserve it.
Went for a group dinner and ate a dozen different dishes and everything was delicious. The fish was so soft and buttery. Food tasted better than Nobu for a fraction of the price.
The food here was amazing! Tucked in a corner of a suburban strip mall, this sushi and ramen restaurant has it all. It has tonkatsu Ramen, miso soup, lots of ramen, and delicious appetizers. There's a happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays (except Fridays ending 6pm). Fantastic service.
Alex and family team make the dining experience great at Sushi 88. Very welcoming staff and they offer amazing quality sushi/sashimi. I have visited with coworker and girlfriend twice and we really enjoyed ourselves. You will want to visit every week. I have not tried ramen yet but am looking forward to it.
I love this restaurant. The bentos and ramen are good, but the sushi is where this place shines. There is a wide variety of raw fish, very fresh, and thoughtfully composed (try the hamachi carpaccio appetizer to see the chef’s creativity first-hand). I have not found another sushi spot with as high quality fish and at a comparable price point. The space is clean, well-lit, and the music is not too loud. The servers are helpful and friendly, and have never rushed me even when it’s a busy night. My favorite things to order are: garlic edamame (also on the happy hour menu), hamachi carpaccio, nigiri combo or “get in my belly” combo (pictured), and one of the desserts.
I love this restaurant. Service and food are always fantastic. It is kid and family friendly. So sad that the owner has to close down this location by the end of this year. Can't wait to see what new thing they bring to the new location. I devoured my food so fast that I don't have any pics. Only have pics of my drink (sake sunrise- so delicious) and vanilla ice cream with red beans
We came back and had the happy hour specials. Everything was delicious and plentyful. We will definitely come back for happy hour. My daughter really likes the Ramen here. She devours the noodles Char shui and egg and the broth is really tasty. We usually order on the app and it is piping hot by the time we come and get it ready to go.
Both presentation and taste is great, the kevin's roll was loaded with fish. Everything raw is fresh as it can be. The quail egg sake was like a flavor bomb straight into your mouth, should try that. Service is super biased since we know the lads working there but im sure they are just as nice to other guests. This one is also one of the nicer sushi restaurants out there, even their bathroom is squeeky clean.
This place was great! Good ambiance and I loved the plates. Food was solid, good rice to fish ratio and very clean and fresh. Would come back!
I really liked it; the service was excellent, the food delicious, and they were very fast. The place was clean and nice.
This place is a gem for Japanese food lovers! Their bento boxes are incredible – a perfect mix of flavors and textures that's both satisfying and fresh. The sashimi is another must-try – melt-in-your-mouth quality with beautiful presentation. And the service? Super speedy and friendly. Highly recommend Eighty-Eight Sushi & Ramen!
Love this place, really fresh food and great waiters, always checking if you are ok, the poke is one of my favorites, i will be back soon
I've passed by this restaurant many times but yesterday was the first I dine in. And I'm happy I did. The prices are good, the atmosphere is amazing, the food is beyond delicious! The menu is pretty extensive for a sushi place and I'll definitely be back to try some more food. The only thing would be keep in mind that the restaurant is pretty busy so make sure you are okay with some wait.
Best nigiri had n in the Bay Area. The fish was fresh and flavourful. The chef has perfectly prepared the nigiri and best dish to try is the nigiri combo where the chef decides the choice of sushi on the plate. The tofu was good too. Will visit this place again for the chef special Menu has lot of other options too. Service ID fast and fish is good
Finally leaving a review after coming here many times. We even see the same locals come every time we go for dinner! Sushi is fantastic- lion rolls, regular tuna or salmon rolls and the vegetarian rolls my wife gets. They have soy paper as well. Vegetarian ramen is delicious too. We like the service and especially the dessert! It’s not pictured, but they get the dessert cakes from a cafe in SJ. Very light and delicious. Appetizers are also flavorful - agedashi tofu and edamame 😋
I recently had the pleasure of dining here for the first time, and I must say, it was an experience to remember! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. What truly stood out was the exceptional service provided by our server. She was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring our tea cups were always filled and catering to our every need. Now, let's talk about the food. My friend and I decided to indulge in the Bento Box, opting for main dish beef short ribs and side dish chicken karaage. The presentation was impressive, with the box served alongside Edamame, soup, and steamed veggies including carrots and broccoli. The chicken and short ribs were cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. We also couldn't resist ordering the Philadelphia rolls and baked salmon rolls, both of which were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. To top off our meal, we indulged in the Amazing crepe cake, and let me tell you, it was the perfect ending to a fantastic lunch. Each layer was light and airy, and the flavors were simply divine. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations. The quality of food and service was top-notch, and I can't wait to return to try other dishes.
Highly recommended!! Pros: -Clean modern decor -Excellent customer service and hospitality -Delicious food and variety -Super clean restroom -Comparable prices -Decent drink menu -Plenty of FREE parking Cons: -Only one: Not enough spicy ramen options Great for family diner, a bite after work with coworkers, and date night. The staff was warm and welcoming from the moment we entered therestaurant. My waitstaff was knowledgeable about the menus and willing to offer additional spice when asked. Delicious sushi and ramen. The hot sake selection was pretty limited, but definitely yummy. We'll definitely have to experience this menu again! Next time the combos for sure!
I went here on a whim tonight and was surprised to find such a gem! I ordered the garlic edamame, omakase sashimi, and two rolls. Everything hit the spot so perfectly. I usually am picky with sushi, but I was quite impressed with this place (especially given that it’s difficult to find a good sushi spot in the bay compared to SoCal). I would come again!
We had the Eighty Eight premium roll and we enjoyed it. I loved how the pine nuts complement the overall taste. The soy sauce was just a balance of sweet and salty, but the wasabi could improve, it was not as strong as I liked. We enjoyed the ramen, the chashu was tender and cooked to perfection. We’d come back again for sure to bring friends and relatives here to try this place.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! You should absolutely try it - Literally the best sashimi I’ve ever had (specifically the yellowtail (hamachi)) ALSO their mochi donuts are a must get too - because this is the only place where I’ve ever had a hot and fresh mochi donut, and it’s life-changing Their ramen also slaps, we like the noodle texture :))
I've wanted to come here for a while since I saw that they just opened. The inside was spotless, and their servers were very attentive and polite toward us. We enjoyed our meals. My mother enjoyed her bento box, especially her teriyaki salmon. And my husband and I enjoyed all of our rolls, especially the rock & roll roll.
In my belly and sushi eighty eight roll are my go to. Premium quality of sushi here, and service is always delightful! Love the vibe here as well.

Fresh sushi in here ! Service good 👍 I saw posted on Instagram about valentines 🍣 set ! Come here today with my old friend, although Valentines’s was over , i was asked to order valentines set , yes 🙌 ! 🤣😆😀🤭 love this set here !

One of our go-to's for sushi - everything from high quality tuna on their over-the-top Eighty Eight Roll, to fried rolls, excellent nigiri, good deals at happy hour. High quality stuff, good environment, friendly staff, quick service. Recently they were playing music from ~2013 the whole time and I was nostalgic for that time lol

The namesake sushi, eighty-eight roll, was great and nicely presented with poke pieces on top. The regular rolls: spider, Philly, and Negihama had chewy seaweed (not a crispy bite) wrap and not as fun and tasty. The agedashi tofu was nice and the hot sake was generous. They were busy so they couldn't always check when we needed water or additional ginger to add flavor to sushi.
Nigiri was so amazing for the price (5/5). Only hiccup was the chicken katsu which tasted like it was microwaved and very dry
The rolls and tempura were great! It's a little bit on the pricey side if you're cost-aware, but you do get good food for the price, so I'd say it's a fair deal. My friend and I felt a bit rushed by the staff. There was no wait, but there aren't too many tables, so if it looks busy you might have to wait.
Sushi & Ramen Family Style Restaurant Mountain View: My Family’s Go-To Sushi 88 & Ramen is a favorite of my family’s for when we are craving sushi, rolls, and/or ramen. There is a little something for everyone. The restaurant is tiny and down to earth, but plenty of room for seating family style. They also have a sushi bar. The sashimi plates are delicious, the Hamachi and the Salmon are my favorite. The sashimi is fresh and heavy (thick), good quality and good texture. Often the sashimi appetizer plate and a small avocado roll is plenty for myself because of the weight and quality of the sashimi. The chirashi and donburi options are also really good. As far as soups (ramen) goes, the ramen is one of my favorites for rainy days or for when I’m feeling under the weather or just want something more hearty, especially the black garlic miso ramen. The taste is bold and a little spicy but not overdone, warming and flavorful. The restaurant also offers bento boxes and basic rolls (Alaskan Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll) as well as fancy & lux rolls (49er roll, blossom roll, and much more). Their pricing has increased in some menu items since the new menu was released a few months ago, but it is still well-balanced in price, options, and flavor palettes. Not a fancy outing, more down to earth and relaxed. For when you want something delicious, good quality, and not-fussy with a homely and local feel. Highly recommend.
The service was mediocre… we waited maybe ten minutes for a server to come and just say hello… and from there didn’t really receive much attention after getting our food until it was time to pay. The sushi is fairly priced. The place is basic dining experience. The quality and taste is good, but not amazing. I would say it’s a good go to option if you’re in the area.. as it’s still better than most others.
Great happy hour prices on select apps, sushi, beer and sake. Really like our rolls and appreciated the friendly service.
I highly recommend getting their premium rolls! The execution was amazing, each roll was we thought out. Skip the happy hour menu. Pay attention to the monthly rolls, I only noticed it at the end, but the description looked fire. Premium rolls: - Eighty-Eight Roll was packed and topped with so much fish! I loved the wasbi tobiko on top. The tuna was extremely fresh. Texture was soft. The roll was amazing. Sauce was really good very light and not over powering was savory and a hint of citrus. Highly recommend. - The Phoenix Roll was also amazing. The tobiko flavor was very interesting. It had a smoky taste to it similar to hondashi from their sauce, which was similar to a soy reduction with bonito. I the tobiko may have absorbed some of the sauce flavor (?). The avocado was nice and buttery. The unagi top was really savory. Love the portion size of the fish. Sauce seems like a soy reduction with some hondashi or bonito, very delicious.Hamachi had a nice firmer texture. Love the combination of ingredients. Happy hour: - Takoyaki batter is nice and crispy and a big chunk of tender octopus inside. Lightly dressed which doesn’t over power everything. - California roll crab salad was a bit saucy, a bit heavy on the mayo side. - Spicy tuna was good. Minced nicely that there is still texture to the bite rather than all mush. Not too spicy, tasted very fresh. I like that all the rolls were packed. And light on the rice. The speciality rolls were well thought out with amazing execution. All the individual flavors fit perfectly and complimented each other. I would skip the happy hour rolls and re place it with the monthly roll. Didn’t get a chance to try it but the description looked really good. Service was good very attentive, they paid attention to the water level and asked if we need more. Our rolls came out pretty fast too.

The food was remarkably mediocre given the prices. Tempura and miso soup were decent but the beef teriyaki was the worst, by a wide margin, that I've ever had. The tough, flavorless meat was topped with a drizzle of bland sauce that was enough to redeem the meal. My friends had respectable tonkatsu and ramen and the service was decent so there is some hope for this place but given that there are so many better places nearby I don't think I will be got back
Cozy & clean ramen place. Presentation on sushi is delightful but it's pricey. Been here for both lunch & dinner. PRO: - Cozy & clean - Decent food - Nice servers CON: - Pricy, but lots of place are now. I just can't get over Two bowls of sushi with appetizer and tip almost $60? SUMMARY: Not a memorable meal except the price.
The food was decent, but they served both the appetizer and the ramen together, which made it hard because one is bound to get cold/soggy. Their vegetarian ramen is meh at best, so either ask for a side of sesame oil or something if you do order that.
I was actually recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, I am sorry to say I was quite disappointed. We ordered the omakase 12 pieces, the fish did not taste good, quite chewy. It was served on the ice, I’m afraid the ice mountain may look impressive, but the ice cold IMO does not provide a good taste. We also ordered pork curry, did not like it, the pork was crispy, but taste weird for the meat. I hope the restaurant could improve the fish/food quality and service.
This restaurant is OK for my personal taste. It is not bad but I have had definitely better. I’ve had their sushi in the past and last night just had their ramen; both times I have not been impressed. Focusing on the good things, the restaurant location, design and cleanliness is very good, and the service is fast and friendly. On the not so good, but again, that is just my taste, not that it’s bad, the quality is below average. The corn in the ramen was very likely canned preserved corn (looked perfectly shaped, cut and colored), the soy broth lacked flavor and the noodles were somewhat soggy, and the pork was bland (fortunately it was tender) The prices were fair, but personally, not a place I’d return again to. However, I saw other people that seemed to have enjoyed their meal and perhaps for them the taste and quality is good.
My first time experience was decent. The chicken karaage and agedashi tofu were decent. The fancy sushi dishes looked good. My second time here was very disappointing. We ordered tonkotsu ramen and sushi lunch plate with sashimi and California rolls. The sashimis are just regular sashimis. The California rolls and the ramen tasted not pleasing at all. Very expensive too.

They're not following their own schedule. They need to update the service hours.
I just ate here and I wish I had gone back to the spot I liked that was 30 minutes away. I should have left the second I walked in this place, the smell was OFF. This food was nasty and wayyy too expensive. The carpaccio was basically sashimi with extra fluff in the bowl. I love garlic but that’s all I could taste- not worth $18. The nigiri scallop smelled horrible and I’m praying I don’t get sick from it. I usually prefer toro with a sear on the top, but even without the sear this didn’t have that usual buttery texture/taste of toro. I also didn’t realize that the toro price was for only 1 piece when it was in the column under nigiri (2 pieces). The rice on the nigiri didn’t feel or taste like sticky rice. It just fell apart immediately. And lastly, unagi is my absolute favorite but theirs was FLAVORLESS. The edges were oddly more charred than what I’m used to, so maybe over cooked? Idk, disgusting dinner.
Not even have time to taste because the front desk soooo arrogant! At first we called to ask if we can reserve a table as we have 15 person. And they said first come first serve ! Fine, we went there, and I saw a big table still have space and asked if we can get a table for 15 person, they said : u can see right now we don’t have tables, and one group came in and the front desk direct them to that big table area which I believe they already reserved it! And I asked if they can check how long they could give us table, they said: oh. U can see we don’t ! With pissed off tone! Just unbelievable this front desk people still have job at this competitive industry! The owner need to think about how to provide above and beyond service as you are not the #1 and you are not the long lasting industry! Better than think how to serve people. Maybe the person put nice words they never seen the real face of rejection! Oh, we went to just 3 mins away restaurant called” mizu sushi bar and grill. We got the best service and spent $600 there!
