Happened upon this place while looking for the malasadas further down the strip, and this is the best Filipino food we have had in Southern California. The lunch line is long but moves quickly, portions are humongous and one tray can easily be split between two. The bbq, lumpia, and Dinuguan are especially good here! They overstuff your box/cups and wrap in plastic to-go although they had plenty of space inside to eat as well.
Best place for authentic Filipino food. Staff is warm and friendly, and the portions are insanely generous! It feels like I’m with family sending me home with enough food to feed me for a week!
There's a reason this place was so busy. I first came here in 2017. It's good to know the food is still really delicious!!
I recently stopped by Tita's Kitchenette and it was such a pleasant surprise. This cozy little spot serves up really authentic Filipino comfort food that tastes homemade in the best way. The dishes were flavorful, hearty, and clearly made with care. The staff were also incredibly friendly, which made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. If you're in San Diego and craving real Filipino food that feels like it came straight from someone’s family kitchen, Tita's Kitchenette is definitely worth a visit.
Bro the food slaps! You should get the beef steak with rice oh my goodness. The chicken and rice is good but I think the beef steak is better. Everything is good, portions are amazing. It’s a bit pricey when ur ordering for 3+ people, but it’s worth it.
I was driving home to Denver after visiting my daughter in San Angelo and was craving a breakfast burrito. I had planned on stopping in Roswell but noticed a coffee shop in Lamesa and asked if they had breakfast burritos and they told me to go next door to Tita's. I ate the best burritos I have ever tasted and eaten. I ordered a steak burrito for later on my trip and it was so good. We have a lot of Mexican restaurants in the Denver metropolitan areas but nothing compares to what I experienced from Tita's. Please consider opening up restaurants in Colorado. We have a local restaurant chain all over the Denver metro called Santiagos and they are very popular but if you had restaurants here you would put them out of business. I can't wait to stop in Lamesa again to order a couple of dozen burritos to go and share with others. Also let me know if I can order online or have your menu items shipped to me.
probably the best food ive ever had in my life. the skewers were absolutely amazing, so flavorful. the teriyaki was incredible, the sauce being delicious and the meat easily falling off the bone. the lumpia was a life changing experience, the pork inside was so juicy and so flavorful. and the crusted fish was amazing where the crust was perfect and not oily and the fish tasting so fresh. the portions are very generous, including with their ice cream. the pandan and ube icecrean is absolutely amazing, I dream about it all the time.
Tita's Kitchenette is hands down one of the best spots in San Diego for authentic Filipino food! The cafeteria-style setup makes it easy to choose from all the delicious options, and the staff is always so warm and welcoming. The lumpia here is the best in San Diego. Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely addictive. The pork skewers are worth every the wait. They are grilled fresh perfectly with just the right amount of char and sweetness. I also really enjoyed the pancit, which was fresh and well-seasoned. Be prepared for long lines on weekends, but trust me, the food is more than worth it. If you’re looking for hearty, home-style Filipino cooking, Tita’s is the place to go!
The food was so flavorful and comforting. My wife and I shared a rice/pancit combo. The entrees were curry chicken & chicken Adobo. The curry chicken had melt in your mouth potatoes and carrots and the curry was just right. The adobo was rich and flavorful with the right amount of bite from the acidity. The pancit is so addicting, it was a star all by itself! We literally ate off of it 2 days and were satisfied both days. The staff was so nice and sweet! It was like going into a Filipino Mama's kitchen. The food was so good and the portions were huge. 10 out of 10! If you're ever in San Diego run and find them. Sidenote we went later in the evening and they ran out of Lumpia...I know it probably was amazing too...until next time!
Big portions of delicious homestyle Filipino cooking! I’m always satisfied when ordering here Been to this place since I was a little girl in the 90s and this place still feels like home. All the best dishes of Filipino food, complete with the elders serving you. Don’t be fooled that it’s in this little plaza in national city. People from everywhere know to come here for the fresh home cooking of Titas & it’s generous portions. If you plan to get food here, remember to share. The portions are epic sized and super delicious. Recommend: Sinigang soup (Filipino sour soup) Fresh bbq either pork or the chicken And my fave the Filipino menudo.
Visiting from Az. Had a coworker who is from San Diego amd recommended coming here. I am so happy that I did. To me this tasted like food for the soul. Like mommas home cooking. I got a half rice & half pansit combo with steak & onions. Also got the pork dodo and what i thought was just vegetables, but ended up being chicken & vegetables. It came with a soup. I also ordered the lumpia. I dont know what i was thinking? I got way too much food. This food was so insanely good. The pork adobo was so tender. The soup was so flavorful. Had this citrus taste, I think it's calamansi? Sooooooo good. I can't say enough of how great the food was. Definitely recommend.
I've been coming here for over 20 years. affordable prices and really good food. I've had to complain a few times but I was there two days ago and I have not eaten there in the last six months. I was impressed with the quality and temperature of the food especially being served early in the morning. Good experience this time. Maraming salamat! :)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tita's Kitchenette and I must say, it was an unforgettable culinary experience! The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the absolutely generous and delicious portions of Filipino cuisine that they serve. From the savory adobo to the flavorful sinigang, every dish was bursting with traditional Filipino flavors and made with the freshest ingredients. But what truly amazed me was the portion sizes - Tita's Kitchenette doesn't skimp on their servings, ensuring that every guest leaves fully satisfied with a happy, full belly. The ambiance at Tita's Kitchenette was warm and inviting, making me feel right at home. The staff members were incredibly welcoming and attentive, further enhancing my dining experience. If you're a fan of Filipino cuisine and looking for a place that serves up the best and most generous portions, Tita's Kitchenette is the place to be. I can't recommend it enough and I can't wait to return for more delicious meals in the future!
This was my first visit yesterday. Came in around 6pm. Food: Asked for pancit they didn't have it, asked for 2 other items they didn't have it. They close at 9pm, and the plates they offer is a rice plate or pancit plate but pancit was unavailable and was forced to get a rice plate. Why? Not sure. I ended up getting a rice plate with adobo. The adobo was tasty, only issue was that every bite had a small piece/shards of the chicken bone and I had to keep spitting them out. Which made it unpleasant to eat. But they gave big portions. That was nice. Service: well I wasn't greeted when I walked in, no one asked if I needed any assistance I had to ask them if I was un the right place to order. The whole time I am trying to order the lady in front of me is yelling across the way to talk to another lady by the register. To be honest she didn't seem interested in helping me. We ended up taking our food to go. In all honesty this was not at all a good impression, and I really wanted to like this place because it has good reviews. But my filipino family had their own business too and always had great customer service than this. Other food places had better customer service than this. I am really quite disappointed. Atmosphere: not much of one other than its super loud doesn't bug me much may bug others. Parking: plenty of parking for the most part but I came in the evening.
This place is famous for their Filipino pork barbecue, which they almost never have available. Got of plenty of chicken barbecue though, but its not as good as the pork. The rest of the dishes are pretty good and they give good portions. Just don't come here expecting to have the famous pork barbecue.
the pancit had a decent flavor, but tasted nothing like any pancit ice ever had. flavor was totally off. I've never had pancit like that at a traditional cookout, party or restaurant. and I'm not a fan of the partial "chow mein" noodles in it. also the "glass noodles" seemed either old or overcooked and they were no longer noodles, they were little 1/4"-1/2" pieces of noodle. hardly any veggie in it. noodles stuck together almost like sushi rice cuz it was sort of dry. .
I was craving lumpia for some time and must admit I was disappointed in the quality and taste. I hope they didn't give me fried hard lumpia because I'm darkskin 😅.. the food is mid, but they give you a lot. Cooking in bulk is tough and the flavors showed. The day I went was busy and hopefully that's the reason why it tasted bland and bland lacked dimension.. I ate the lumpia while it was fresh and came back to it 10 mins later and the disappointment grew...
Tita’s Kitchenette is a local favorite Filipino restaurant in National City. Finding parking could be a test of patience at times. We tried to get food during off hours to avoid the lunch and dinner crowd. After getting Filipino pastries and bread from Valerio’s Bake Shop, located next to Tita’s Kitchenette, we got in the queue to order food. The line moved excruciatingly slow. More patience was needed here today (Sunday around 3pm). We ordered the two items combo with rice and BBQ chicken skewers also. They have increased the menu pricing like all restaurants. Food is tasty here at a budget friendly price point and the portion served was generous. It is very common to see Filipino families and big group of family and friends dining in at the restaurant and sharing their boxed meals together in a happy manner with lively conversations. Plenty of indoor seating available as people moved in and out of the dining area in a constant flow. This place also sells desserts such as ice cream, halo halo and sweet Filipino desserts. Even though the queue was moving slowly like molasses today, we will be back for more delicious Filipino food.
Authentic Filipino food, great portions and plenty of options. They are well known for their BBQ skewers! Very disappointed with my experience today. I grew up here and constantly brag and share memories of eating here since I’ve already moved 10+ years ago out of state. I make an effort to come here whenever I visit town. Today I drove 16 hours away and this was my first choice of food, as usual it’s packed and lined up out the door. While I wait I give the scoop to a first time guest on what popular combinations to try. I patiently waited as my family waited in the car after spending the day at the beach. My turn is up and I greet the lady serving food and as for (3) 2-item entrees, she immediately lets out a sigh, almost irritated like and waves me off when I asked if they are making any more sisig. I smile and say no worries and ask for extra sabaw and that I’ll pay for it. The first thing she says, I can only give you one. ( usually they give you 1 per entree ) again I smile and said I’ll pay for it, no worries. I tell her that I want to pay for the person behind me also, no acknowledgment. They go ahead of me to cash out since my food is still being packed. I ask for the cashier if they gave them the soup and she said you’re not next yet but they ended up charging them for it. I told them in Tagalog respectfully, everything is ok no problem. She is confused and doesn’t realize I not only speak and understand Tagalog but am actually Filipino. We never know what someone is going through. One thing is, it’s a business and that’s not acceptable. Probably the last time I step foot in here.
Tita's Filipino Food Restaurant - A Disappointing Decline ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5 stars - would give 0 if possible) Date of Visit: Friday, July 25, 2025 Time of Visit: 6:30 PM Order: Combo Plate (Rice, Lumpia, which I later tried to replace with Pork Sisig) I am writing this review with immense disappointment after being a loyal customer of Tita's Filipino Food Restaurant for over 25 years. My recent dining experience was so poor that I feel compelled to share it, and unfortunately, I will no longer be supporting this business. Upon receiving my combo plate, I immediately noticed two major issues: Mushy Rice: The rice was incredibly mushy and watery, resembling porridge rather than properly cooked rice. Undercooked Lumpia: The lumpia was severely undercooked, with raw meat still visible inside the wrapper. This is a significant food safety concern. I requested a refund for the lumpia. The cashier offered to replace it with a different item, and I chose the pork sisig. However, I was informed that I would have to pay an additional dollar for the replacement. I declined, reiterating my request for a refund on the lumpia. I did appreciate that they replaced the mushy rice with a fresh, better-cooked batch. Over the past 25 years, I've witnessed the quality and service at Tita's steadily decline, while prices have concurrently risen. They used to offer beloved dishes like Beef Steak and onions, which have recently been rare to find on menu. The current buffet offerings, combined with the higher prices and significantly diminished quality of both food and service, are simply unacceptable. Today's experience was the final straw. If I could give zero stars, I would. The restaurant has lost its quality and is now providing very low services at higher prices. I will never eat here again.
