Tip: Visit the rooftop bar for awesome views of the river. It can get packed, especially on weekends, but the music and vibe are worth it.

Awesome rooftop with great views. Great service in old school nyc bar. Can’t wait to comeback again
been here many times over the years. fun spot, multiple floors with a rooftop. gets pretty busy at night. you can dance. all around solid.
Came here with a big group and was welcomed by staff! Drinks are great and fairly priced, food was delicious, and we had a great time. Will 100% be back, can't recommend highly enough!
It is an excellent bar !! Fantastic atmosphere!! The music is brilliant..great selection. We visited on Friday 3rd Oct at 12.30 in the afternoon. I could not say a bad word about this establishment. You HAVE to visit. We come to New York every year since 1996 and this bar is one of my favourite picks.
Loved that this bar had multiple levels and rooftop! Was really cool sitting outside on the roof on a nice night. Plenty of space for groups and a bar is on the rooftop so you dont need to walk downstairs. Was a really chill vibe liked here a lot!
This is easily one of my favorite pubs in NYC in all respects — location, staff, interior, food…in no particular order. Whenever I’m in the meat-packing district, I head over for a beer and a quick bite. On my last visit I had a fish taco…one word: delectable!
Nice spot to stop by for a quick drink and a snack. Ordered two drinks and the Guinness beer cheese with potato wedges. The beer was a nice pour; the staff was very friendly. The potato wedges were cooked to perfection, and the cheese sauce was very tasty.
Stella for the Bella! Great little spot we found by the high line. Looks dark from the outside, but they’ve got a great rooftop space. Service here was great too. The bartender recommended the lovely Dogfish IPA to my friend and I had a few of the Coney Island Pilsners. Played banger after banger as well.
Walking downtown along the Hudson to start the Highline and we wanted a little fortitude before we got going (ha! Ha!) and found the Brass Monkey nestled in sweetly below the Whitney/Highline entry. What a lovely quintessential cocktail bar and such friendly service! We had the Mexican ginger and first line cocktail - and my husband followed up with a local IPA (Dog fish head!) and all drinks were tip top! What a find!! Thanks BM team :)
I've been coming here for the better part of the last 2 decades, and this remains the best - and my favorite- bar in NYC's Meatpacking Dist. Lots of space in multiple rooms, and bartenders who are almost friends to you from the time you walk in. If a handsome bald man named James is working the door, say hi, tell him Chef Mike sent you, and have a great time.
A very cool bar in the meat packing district with three floors, each with its own bar. Service is top-shelf and the bar has a great old-school vibe with lots of exposed beams, brass, and brick walls. Be sure and check out the rooftop bar! We showed up when they were closing but they stayed open for us since we had driven here to check out the bar. The manager Homero went over and beyond to make us feel welcome and told us about the bar's history. Be sure and try out the fish or shrimp tacos, or the cheeseburger if you're in the mood to eat some good food. The Brass Monkey is now one of our favorite bars here in NYC.
The bar staff, doormen, security... everyone.. was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful! Place was packed but the bartenders were machines! Fast service, smiling faces, good music.. tip top.

I just happened to hang out at this place since it was probably the most affordable bar in the area. I needed a place to hangout while waiting for my wife and her friends have their ladies' night out (designated driver and all). I thought it was just a cozy, neighborhood bar. I had the Fish and Chips for dinner. It wasn't bad. It could have used some more seasoning. But it went very well with the tartar sauce. I had four beers from the tap (my limit for the night): They were the Brass Monkey IPA (a good IPA, I liked it even though I am not a fan of IPAs), the Hofbrau, the Allagash White and the Victory Pilsner. The Hofbrau and the Pilsner were my favorites. I came there sometime past 8pm was just planning to just chill and chat with the barkeeps. They were very friendly. As earlier mentioned, I thought the bar was just a nice neighborhood joint. Come 11pm, that changed really quickly. Suddenly I was surrounded by a crowd more than half of them were young enough to be my kids. The DJ started pumping out great tunes, from old school to the stuff them youngins listen to nowadays. LOL! I did feel out of place for a moment. Then, my wife and her friends showed up and decided to hang out with me. The places they went to was too stuck up and they just wanted to let loose. Well, they did come to the right place and we all partied as if we were still in our early 20s. Needless to say, we did enjoy ourselves (some of us, way too much). This place is a great discovery for me. Worth coming back to and forget that I am a middle-aged guy with a wife and three kids. ;-)
This multistory bar right along the Hudson River even has a rooftop you can visit while you drink. I arrived around 9pm and found a good spot to hang out. As the night went on, it quickly grew more crowded and it was more difficult to find space. The views admittedly aren't great, with an empty lot next door. Also, there is an apartment building on the northern side with people watching from the windows. Generally not terrible but just a bit disappointing.
Crazy busy. Was fun. Just be ready to be squished in the crowd. Was a line outside but it moved fast.
Went to Brass Monkey on a weeknight for a happy hour event, and it was a great choice for a group. The back room is quite large, with a small upstairs overlook, and could easily fit over 100 people. …

We came on a night when there was no line which was really nice. It is fun vibes inside - can still talk with friends or dance. The best part is the music - DJ is great.

Went to the rooftop on Monday night and was treated disrespectfully by one of the lady waitresses. I started asking her questions about the menu but she clearly did not care and would not even look at me. Her colleague did not bring us the beer we ordered from him and we had to go get it ourselves. I literally tipped way too much (18%). I have had much better experiences in NYC where I tipped nothing or less, so I regret it even more that I tipped without receiving any service at all. For anyone coming here, tip after you have received your service, otherwise you might end up being treated in a way you do not appreciate. However, the staff downstairs was really nice, including the bouncer. Food is obviously overpriced for what you get, but considering the area where the bar is located, this is probably the norm.
We were looking for a relaxed rooftop vibe and found it at Brass Monkey. The drinks were solid and reasonably priced, and the rooftop service was fantastic. However, the service downstairs was a different story—my friends were served the wrong beer and got pushback when they pointed it out. We expected the bar to close at 2 AM based on their Google Business Profile, but the lights came on around 1:15 with no last call, and the staff just stared at us, clearly annoyed we hadn’t left. A little heads-up would’ve been nice—how were we supposed to know?
I liked everything about this place but people need to stop praising the food. Its regular bar food that tasted like McDonald's. The buffalo sauce tastes like chemicals but I dont blame brass monkey because thats how they buy it. I had cooks who know how to fix the sauce and make it their own with a few simple ingredients already found in every kitchen. Anyways everything else is great. The food is definitely good if youre five margaritas deep or havent ate in more than 16hrs. I had the cheeseburger and it was cheesy and fresh. Lettuce and tomato would of put it in another level. Anyways yea just regular bar food. Im pretty sure this bar is only known for their atmosphere and drinks not their food so consider this a five star review. I just dont like that I was mislead from other reviews bout the food but thats not brass monkeys fault so im shining the light on a true unbiased opinion. Their drinks, she had two watermelon slushies and I dont think they were strong or balanced instead were light but that's expected from bars in this area. A slushy and a shot would do the trick to make this 15$ drink worth it but then it would probably turn into a 23$ drink The brass monkey light beer is really good. I really liked that beer. If you like modelo, corona or budlight you will like this beer alot and Im certainly coming back for it. I didnt stay long enough for the dj but being a big bar with a strong reputation I didnt expect them to be on a budget for djs. Covid did hurt many businesses so thats a whatever point, I just noticed that but thats just me. I also noticed that long time employees havent moved up. Theres a guy with 7+ yrs doing the samething on the floor which makes me wonder if the mgmt is biased, I just feel bad for them. Anyways Brass monkey will be a good option to impress anyone from out of town, other nyers will understand my review after coming here.
I enjoyed my time here, but I’m not sure it was worth the 20+ minute wait to get into the bar. I was a bit underwhelmed when I got inside. I would recommend instead going to Le Bain which is very c…
The bartender was off-putting and unfriendly and it felt like she was intentionally watering down our drinks (I saw her pour other drinks quite heavy handed, and we were only one drink in so it was unrelated to excessive inebriation). Prices are okay but you’re paying for half a shot and a cup of ice and club soda for most of the mixed drinks. Crowd wasn’t too diverse but the DJ was fun. Not a dancing place necessarily and the crowd was a bit older (Thursday night). If the drinks were stronger and matched what you pay, and had more enthusiastic service, this place would be a hit! It has a good set up and lighting.
The security there was so rude to me. I have never been treated like that. I left my bag on a hook in my sight and the security took it and then when I reclaimed it he called me a "(profanity removed…
bad drinks, bad service, I would not go here it it was the last bar on earth. waste of time and horrible workers.

I went here a few months back (july 2022) and am still thinking about how awful it was so had to come on here to write a review. The line was so long and not worth the wait or cover charge at all. …

(Brass) Monkey Bouncer Absolutely appalling experience at Brass Monkey, and it all comes down to the bouncer with the strong African accent. His ignorance and rudeness are staggering. He turned away a member of our party, claiming that the star on their ID was suspicious. Seriously? Does he not understand that Real IDs in New York have a star on them? It’s beyond comprehension that someone so clueless is working the door. When we rightfully questioned his judgment, he went off the rails, screaming at us like a wild animal. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable for a bar trying to maintain a decent reputation. The owner needs to seriously reconsider having this individual on staff. His behavior is not just embarrassing but a liability. I can’t stress enough how poorly we were treated, and I will never return. If you value respect and professionalism, stay far away from this place!
