Great fun place good drinks, food. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, with upbeat music playing in the background. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from delicious appetizers to mouthwatering main courses. The bartenders are skilled at crafting creative and flavorful cocktails, while the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. Whether you're looking for a casual night out with friends or a lively spot for a celebration, this place is sure to deliver a memorable experience.
I want to start by saying A+, the soju pouches drinks were really good. I got to take mine to go after eating. For food I got the premium menu which came to $50 per person. The wagyu was like a tastier bacon with some really good marbling. My favorite was the pork belly and the bulgogi. The bulgogi was a bit sweet but with the ginger and beef sauce they provided it was stellar. I also don’t like shrimp but whatever they put on theirs was really good coming off. The grill when I was eating it.
Went on a Thursday evening. Wasn't a terrible wait at all. Just heads up if you have a large group be prepared to wait for a while. For our group of 2 we were seated really quickly. Turnaround was quick. After you order your meat was delivered quickly and you can get to cooking right away. Overall service was awesome. Amazing and attentive service by Amy, even on a crowded and hectic night. Food was delicious. For $30 it was amazing, can't find that anywhere else in Manhattan. **Small nitpick - the fans are kinda weak, so you will smell like BBQ when you leave, but I'm one who doesn't really mind especially at the end of the day. And also not a fan of the way they handle the used grills after the change them from the table, makes the floors a just little bit greasy and slippery**
Great price! $30 all u can eat. You can't find anywhere in NY with this price. Very impressed with the serving speed. They served very quickly so we dont even need 2 hours to eat everything on the menu. You have to wait 2 hours bc of the high demand but you can spend time shopping nearby. Overall, great exp.
Arrived late for some quiet time. Perfect atmosphere. The pallet cleansers were fresh near closing and really good. Someone the best pickled jalapeños and cucumbers I've had. The mixed vegetables platter covers everything you need for green. All the protein options were fresh and healthy sizes. The drinks they provide come in the option of pouches or cups. The pouches were great without being overly expensive. One bad part, but it did not affect me. Ventilation could be a little better for the table. Nonetheless, it is a great place, food, and experience.
The location is great, and the food is just what you expect! Some of the dishes are already cooked when they are brought out, but most of the dishes you have to cook it yourself at the table! It's still one of the best prices per person you can find for an all-you-can-eat Korean restaurant in Mahattan!
Decided to visit Gen on a Friday night and I wasn’t disappointed. There was a bit of a wait but the waitlist app was easy to use. The text and phone call was received and once at the host desk we were instructed to scan the menu QR code before being seated. Our waitress Rachel was amazing. PS. 2 hours is more than enough time to enjoy the all you can eat option.
This place is a fantastic Korean BBQ! ♨️ Gen Korean BBQ House offers a unlimited all you can eat barbeque serving endless amounts of meats 🍖 (beef 🐮, chicken 🐔, and pork 🐷) and vegetables! 🥬 Definitely get the Premium AYCE and order the Garlic 🧄 Chicken 🍗, Hawaiian 🌺 Steak 🥩, Carne Asada 🐄, and Mushrooms! 🍄 Service is phenomenal, staff 👨🍳 is super friendly, and the ambience 🎶 is great! I wish I came here sooner and more often!
So happy to have just found this spot for All You Can Eat KOREAN BBQ in Union Square! We got 2 hours of unlimited KBBQ for just $27.95 - kind of unheard of for this area. My friends had never tried Korean BBQ before so I had to take them to this spot with numerous options of quality meat at an affordable price point! We tried literally everything on the menu, the beauty of AYCE! They were very happy by the end of this meal!
We were around union square and hungry when she stumbled upon KGen bbq. We didn't realize this was an AYCE place until we were seated. So that was kinda cool. It was lunch time and costed about $30 per person. There was so much to choose from and it was very good. Service was a little slower because it's really busy with everyone trying to order and get there monies worth. But it was overall very good. Would go again. If we had ordered the amount of stuff we did at a non AYCE place it would have costed like $200 lol!!! Such a great deal!!!!
Wow! Such good value for an AYCE KBBQ place in nyc. Dinner was $33.95 and the variety of meats and service made this experience totally worth it. For dinner, you get lots of beef, pork, and chicken options. What stands out is the abundance of beef (galbi, steak, different short ribs) because I don't see many AYCE restaurants in Manhattan offering galbi. Ordered most of the items on the dinner menu and most were delicious. The spicy pork ribs came pre-cooked and I would highly recommend them if it is a bonier rib. I find that the ribs with thicker meat tend to be dry and overly sweet. Some favorites: gen premium steak, pork cheek, chadol, Hawaiian steak (comes with pineapple!), nook gan sal, galbi, pork belly, and the garlic chicken (cook extra long time). Appetizers: calamari was just ok. I wouldn't get it again. Hotteok was just ok. I personally thought the dough tasted slightly salty, which didnt mix well with the powdered sugar on top or the sweet topping inside, but others in my party did not taste the salt so ymmv. Do not get the popcorn chicken. Tastes like microwaved chicken nuggets. Sides: whole ban Chan set (love the kimchi and potato salad!), salad (really refreshing!), radish paper, jalapeño, garlic. Do not recommend the rice paper because it was all stuck together so really unusable. Green tea salt was surprisingly great. Service: last but not least, the service here is amazing. Having been to another ayce kbbq place in the last week, I really appreciated that our waiter was always around, placed our orders super fast, and that the grill was changed frequently without us having to ask. Sometimes at AYCE places, it can feel like they are intentionally slowing you down with slow service, but that is not the case here.
Didn’t take photos of everything I ate because the only thing on my mind was how much I was enjoying it (too much)! Definitely my new go-to spot. I recommend the Korean Style Pork Riblets, K-Gochujang Beef Belly, Chadol, Steak AND Spicy Pork Bulgogi. I had seconds of the spicy bulgogi and the beef belly!! The Gen Premium Steak was also truly to die for! All of this, two rounds of drinks and the A La Carte Long Bone Short Rib for 2 people cost us 125 (not including the tip). Premium items cost additional, but my favorites were honestly from the normal dinner menu. A fair warning though, when we ordered the second round of Beef Belly they gave us a plate 5 times the size of the previous one which first concerned us because they charge for what you dont eat and we had more coming, BUT the food was so good that we ate all of it and more so I can’t give this place anything beneath 5 stars.
Yung ching (Becca) was hands down the best server we've ever had there and we've been there a lot. She was so attentive and courteous. In spite of however busy she was, she treated us like we were her only table and this was in the height of dinner service. The food was great, but she was phenomenal and a true asset. Real stand out and it shows.
You have come to the right place if you are looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant. Unbeatable price [$35 per person], fast service, lively ambience, decent food and pretty good selection of dishes to choose from. Great place to come with a group of friends. Keep in mind, you'll be cooking your own food.
This place is quite extraordinary. For under $40 per person, you get an all-you-can eat menu of meat and appetizers that are mind blowing. They have a great selection of meat. Pork, chicken, beef, ox tail intestine, some seafood. They spice the meat very nicely too. The quality of the meat goes beyond my expectations in regards to the fairly low price. The appetizers are also well made. My favorite was their new addition, the cheese tonkatsu. Crispy, cheesy, meaty - the perfect trifecta. The service was also excellent. It wasn't too busy on Monday early evening. Definitely would like to come back!
First time at Gen Korean bbq. It was nice to have the experience to cook your own food. High quality meat, very tender and flavorful. We got the Hawaiian steak, spicy chicken, honey chicken and other meats. Everything was delicious. Our server Yesmarlyn was awesome, she explained everything since this was our first time. Will def come again .
Exceptional service that enhances every moment! The dining experience is simply exquisite, filled with delightful flavors that satisfy any craving. The inviting atmosphere sets the perfect stage for any gathering. I genuinely encourage everyone to visit—it's fantastic for outings with friends or cherished family celebrations! Enjoy every bite!
The spot is really cool. The different selections and quality of meats available are overwhelming and appealing. Pay attention to the prices and don’t get the offer the table waiter suggests because it’s not better than the menu offer. The deal the waiter offers winds up being more than the menu. So stick to the menu deal. You will smell like a chef so be mindful to not wear the best. Overall a good experience and a recommendation.
This is a great Korean BBQ place. I came here a friday evening around 6pm and it was full. It took about 5mins to be seated so not bad. The booth my daughter and I were taken to had a huge rip in the fabric. Not the best to sit on. The restaurant is really big and spacious. The booth was absolutely huge and felt like six people could of sat comfortably. The floor of the restaurant, especially in the back is extremely slippery. Our waiter was amazing. He gave great recommendations, checked on us constantly and was just an absolute pleasure. His name is Keayshawn. If your seated with him, your in good hands. As soon as you arrive at the table, there's already a spread of sides and sauces. Along with scissors and tongs. The round grill is in the center of the table. The sides included kimchi, pickled cucumbers, potato salad and some other picked radishes. You get white rice as well which comes out fresh and steaming hot. Multiple waiters come to your table with items you order. I ended up ordering the Cajun shrimp, two gen steaks, the hawaiian steak, pork belly, calamari, riblets and the sweet pancake dessert. The Cajun shrimp had great flavor however, it was so difficult to peel the skin off after it cooked and eating the entire thing was too difficult to chew. I think if they butterflied the shrimp, it would help. The calamari had potential but it was under seaoned and cold. The gen steak was really good but small and had a huge piece of fat at the top of it. It doesn't come seasoned. They provide seasoning, oil and soy sauce at the table in little 3 sectioned plates. It was really great, my daughter and i enjoyed seasoning the steaks and cooking it together. The hawaiian steak was good as well. It was nicely seasoned and came with a slice of pineapple. The pork belly was okay and didn't taste the best to me. The riblets were already cooked and came with a great bbq sauce. It was extremely savory sweet which is nice on ribs. Now the pancake wasn't my favorite. My daughter loved it. The outside has a mochi texture. The inside was like a concentrated apple sauce. Overall this is a neat place to come and eat. I can't wait to come back and try some more items. They have no many items on the menu, it would take you multiple visits to try it all. The service here was great. I really enjoyed most of the things i tried. Some i didnt care for. However, everything was fresh and smelled great. I highly recommend this place.
This is place is the McDonalds of Korean BBQ when it comes to speed and efficiency. When you arrive at Gen skip the line get between the doors scan the QR code and registration this will allow you to stroll around do some shopping if the waits a little long (we waited 30min). The food is just out of this world bursting with so much flavor and everything just compliments each other. Unfortunately this location is still waiting on a liquor license so you might wanna pull up a lil buzzed. The price is right when it comes to Gen $30-$40 gets you all you can eat! If your like me and coming from across the river is super easy to slither back into the 3rd ave L train station if your to stuffed lol. Also the customer service was great very attentive staff.
I visited this place today and I think it's great, the service is excellent, the food, the music, the atmosphere is super cool! Good vibes! The staff is super attentive and even though it was packed the service was above and beyond, Rachael our waitress is the best, attentive and helpful, she guided us and helped us the whole time we were there, it's two hours of all you can eat, although one hour was more than enough for me, I'm definitely coming back!
Excellent service from the server. They taught us how to use the grill and they keep you with a nice place of food. The food comes raw, so you have to cook it first before you cut it up and serve it. The meal comes with white rice and appetizers. Overall a fun place to check out with some friends.
Gen Korean BBQ at Union Square is a solid spot for a tasty and fun meal. The food is delicious and cooked to perfection, the service is warm and attentive, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the area. Our server, Vy, was super cute, friendly, and made the experience even better. Definitely worth checking out if you’re craving some good Korean BBQ!
Great affordable AYCE Korean BBQ spot from a California chain. 3 tier pricing: lunch, dinner & late night for the drunks. Some of the sides are just filler like ribs or popcorn chicken, but do give fish katsu and hotteok a try. Can order 4 proteins at a time, and they are quick to come out. You cook the meat so have someine experienced, and turn up/down the heat as needed and be careful of cross contamination. Get some rice sheets to to wrap the meat around, as well as getting more dipping sauces offered on the menu to tey than the 3 provided.
Great food for the price. Drinks are extra charge, even hot tea. Chicken was too sweet and salty. The beef options were the best. Update 5/7/24: They now serve smaller portions! So if you want to sample as many of the dishes as you can before committing to the normal potion, you can! Or just rock out as many of them as you can. I would recommend only ordering a few at a time and check to see if you can continue. They do charge for leftovers. Their bathroom is clean and there are 4 stalls for the women's.
Every time I call me out I have so much fun!! They serve drinks in these pouches that definitely have a kick to them. My ultimate favorite to start off with and then the endless meat is an absolute bargain. They serve so many different cuts of meat all great quality.!! Definitely recommend this place
I brought my husband here for his birthday and wow was I blown away by not only the deliciousness of the food, but the service and friendliness of the staff was so amazing. I absolutely loved the vibe of this restaurant. Super attentive staff and such a welcoming atmosphere. All the meats were seasoned perfectly and everything tasted premium cut. Definitely going back soon!
One of my favorite spots in Manhattan right now for a delicious AYCE Korean BBQ experience! Unlimited food for two hours, if you haven’t tried this before this is your sign to try. Absolutely perfect for a date night or a group birthday celebration - two hours all you can eat meats, seafood, banchan, and apps. $26 per person during lunch $32 per person during dinner $20 per person to add premium menu
Amazing! They are less busy and popular compared to when they first opened up. I’m not sure why. The quality of the food is still great, they have new sharp scissors and our waiter, Guy, was so attentive and managed the flow really well on his own. He deserves a raise. We barely had to wait for our order. Gen is the go to kbbq spot in this area.
Today was a magnificent experience for my birthday I treated myself to this great place, I love the atmosphere & the ambiance of cooking your own food right here on 3rd Ave in Manhattan. Idk the reviews above me must be old they got liquor, they have the meats like arbys, and the staff are extremely meticulous in serving the customers. Alex my server is such a great worker and I appreciate how he greeted, served, and treated me on my birthday. Dude is excellent addition to this company I hope they really acknowledge the efforts of the staff cuz without them the place will be nothing.
I had a really pleasant time at GEN BBQ last friday. The food was great, and the atmosphere made the experience even better. Our server, Dwight, provided excellent service. He was very attentive, patient, and took the time to answer all of our questions without rushing us. His attention to detail truly stood out and made our visit enjoyable. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely come back again.
It was my first time trying GEN BBQ on Union Square. Usually I go to Ktown. It was a great experience. I didn't have to wait for too long (it took me about 10 minutes to get a table). The manager was very nice and welcoming. My server Graig was very attentive and made sure I was taking a good care. He also gave me great recommendations that I really enjoyed. Definitely going to come back and bring my friends with me!
2 times in a week to get Gen Korean BBQ House. WHY? Coz Smile and sweet Service, Clean, Freshand good quality Meat + Vegetable and Drinks. Kyle, the server is very sweet and helpful. All the staffs are very nice amd professional as well. I'm sure you won't regret to have the delicious food at Gen. OH Make sure you are Hungry before you get Gen Korean BBQ. 😉!!!!!!
My party of five dined at GEN Korean BBQ Manhattan last Friday, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. Even though the restaurant was packed, the service was fast, organized, and professional. Our server Gregory was incredibly attentive and efficient, and Bobby, the manager, made sure everything ran smoothly. The entire staff worked seamlessly and really made us feel welcome. The food came out quickly, hot, and beautifully prepared. The banchan was fresh, the japchae was perfectly seasoned without being oily, and the hotteok pancake was our favorite. It was warm, slightly crisp on the outside, and absolutely delicious. The wagyu premium meat slices were SO SO GOOD, tender, flavorful, and just melted in your mouth. All the menu items we wanted were available, and everything was served promptly. The staff were also quick to change the grill throughout our meal, which made a big difference. We never ended up with burned meats, and everything cooked evenly. Their attention to detail was impressive. Cleanliness was top-notch. The servers looked sharp, kitchen staff wore gloves, plates were cleared quickly, and napkins were always restocked. Even at full capacity, nothing was missed. The location is super convenient, close to multiple subways and bus lines, and there is a Trader Joe’s next door, perfect if you want to grab dessert or run a quick errand after dinner. Whether you are planning a date night, a family gathering, or just a weekend dinner after a long week, GEN Manhattan is the perfect spot. Great food, amazing service, and premium all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ right in the city. I will definitely be returning and recommending this location to everyone I know.
Let’s open the doors to GEN Korean BBQ and get hit instantly with that mouthwatering aroma of sizzling meat. You get two full hours to indulge in this all you can eat restaurant. Let’s make every minute count! The menu is stacked with a wide variety of BBQ meats plus a generous spread of appetizers to keep things interesting between rounds of grilling. Their drink menu is just as fun with plenty of great options. The Capri Soju was served with colorful flashing ice cubes that made it as fun to look at as it was to sip. Staffs here are super friendly and quick making sure you are topped off with anything you want. The best part is you get to enjoy all this quality food without breaking the bank. That’s what I call a solid value for the amount and quality you get. Whether you’re a Korean BBQ regular or just diving in for the first time, GEN is a great spot to feast and vibe.
Amazing food, I went there 2 times already. It's kinda hard finding someone to help get a fork or tissues or to order more since it's such a big place. I love the pork belly, potato salad, and Hawaiian steak. Probably the best things on the menu :) I loved the mocktails and I'm sure that the cocktails taste even better. Highly recommend coming here for a group BBQ or a casual lunch date.
This was my 1st time and I was definitely not disappointed. The food was amazing, everything was flavorful and decent portions. It is all you can eat so make sure to come hungry ! The wait was about 30 minutes during late night Friday which honestly isn't bad. Our sever Nathaly made our experience so much better ! Her vibe was amazing , she gave us recommendations, she checked up on us constantly, she hooked up a special drink for me and was also happy to answer all of our questions. The vibe of the restaurant was cool they played trending music and the lighting gives lounge vibes. I would definitely return and recommend this spot 10/10. Video
I would say this place is in the top Korean bbq I’ve visited. They have an all you can eat in 2 hours offer so if you love food this is the place for you! I payed $33.99 and ate sooo much food! Literally everything you ask for they bring. The dumplings were amazing! You get a couple of sides to accompany the different meats you select. They have steak, chicken, ribs, jumbo shrimps and much more. This place can get really crowded and that slows down the service unfortunately. Overall it was a really good experience, check it out with friends or family.
It was very confusing being explained the menu. Regardless of that the food was good. I had a cake that needed to be refrigerated. We were offered it to be placed in the fridge. Which was very generous of the establishment. Though it was a birthday celebration for somebody and it took till after we paid the bill for them to come and wish him happy birthday. In comparison, multiple other tables were celebrating a birthday and they got celebrated as they were eating.
It would've been 5 stars, but my only issue was the wait time. Due to its population, you'll probably wait around an hour. Unfortunately, you can not RSVP unless it is a party of 10+. Nonetheless, the meats were delicious and juicy. We highly recommend the galbi and the pork belly. The waiter stopped by to check in on us every now and then. Which is perfect since you can only order four meat dishes at a time. In my opinion, that's a wonderful system to lower leftover waste. The only regrettable thing is that you have to cook your own meat. Don't worry, the servers will come around often to change the grill cover for you!
The food and service is absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is perfect for a Friday or Saturday night dinner with friends or family. The all you can eat is a steal and the food makes it totally worth it!
Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Great AYCE restaurant. Once we sat down the waiter immediately started placing the side dishes. You can order 4 meats at a time and have two hours to eat whatever it is you choose from the menu. Definitely recommend the Hawaiian Steak, calamari frites, mandu, popcorn chicken and marinated beef short rib. The top of the grill is constantly changed for you throughout your two hours. Ordered the Cajun shrimp, but didn’t enjoy it due to it having the head and it wasn’t peeled. I cut the heads off but when cooking the shrimp with the shell it wouldn’t come off after cooking it. When we received the popcorn chicken it was cold, wish it was actually hot/warm. The Cajun chicken took a while to cook and I believe it was because it was chicken thighs instead of chicken breast. The mango island mocktail was a great drink, it tastes tropical, like it had mango and passion fruit. I would of loved if this place had served fried rice instead of the plain white rice. Overall great experience for the price you’re paying and all the food options available to you.
This BBQ restaurant was different from the others. They had a lot of seating availability, so I didn't have to wait at all. Very structured interior with the fume hoods. Some of the menu items were ambiguously translated in Korean and I had to look it up. I really loved the staffs' attentiveness to every customer and how they were looking in on tables when to change the pan. I do think that the price is really reasonable with the variety of drinks provided (not included in all-you-can-eat package). However, as I was looking around, I found that only chopsticks were provided and saw a lot of customers were stressed that it was hard for them to eat rice with the chopsticks. I would recommend having spoons and/or forks on the table, but not something for the customers to request.
Amazing staff! Went on a busy day so my friends & I waited for an hour. Well worth the wait! The food was delicious & flavorful overall! Reason not a five star is the chicken should be better quality & the way they serve water out of plastic jars & plastic cups. Amazing experience overall & highly recommend!!
Went as a family of 7. Setviced lacked a little in the beginning. The food was good, plentiful and seasoned well. A couple of items were forgotten but quickly brought out when mentioned. The water came in plastic Tupperware containers and janky tumblers. I didn't have a cocktail but they did have mocktails! Overal it was a sexy atmosphere and nice experience.
The atmosphere is great, very stylish place. The staff are extremely friendly, my waiter in particular made some exceptions for me and paid a lot of attention to us. The meat is fresh and delicious, I recommend the pork belly and premium stake. The only downside being some items are limited per person but if you have a large group that should be no problem. The seasoning selection could’ve been better but nonetheless the meat was good and they have a very wide variety of cuts. The drinks were amazing, and we could take them home as well.
A really large restaurant near NYU. Good for larger groups, and the price is pretty good. I liked the pickles and kimchi, and the meat wasn’t bad. Good bulgogi and pork belly and cheek, but I did NOT enjoy the intestines and red wine pork belly. Service was good and we had our cooking plate changed 3 times, food came out fast, but the restaurant wasn’t very full and it was so cold inside I saw a server take off the cooking plate on an empty table, light himself a fire, and start warming his hands like he was camping in the Pacific Northwest. Can seat a ton of people so it’s good for larger groups, though you’ll all smell like smoke afterwards.
Gen Korean BBQ is a place we have been meaning to try, but there's always a long queue. Luckily, we managed to get in for an early Thursday dinner. Upon arrival, it wasn't too busy, and we were immediately seated at a table for two with a grill right in the middle. The deal is an all-you-can-eat BBQ for $33 for a couple of hours, and any wasted BBQ you order will be charged. We were informed that we could order four different meats at a time. For our appetizer, we ordered Korean fried chicken, but they also served banchan at the table, so we realized that ordering the appetizer was unnecessary. We then proceeded to order the following meats: - Gen premium steak - Spicy pork bulgogi - Samgyupsal or premium pork belly - Garlic pork belly The order arrived promptly, and we felt satisfied and full after an hour. We finished our dinner with Hotteok, a Korean sweet pancake topped with sugar. Overall, we had a good dining experience here. Our server changed the grill a couple of times and checked on us many times during the meal to see if we needed anything. With a reasonable price point and great customer service, we will definitely be back!
The couple of times I’ve been,it’s been nothing but a blast, the service was quick the food was tasteful and pleasant. I’ve gone with a large group of 7,to just a date for two and never had a complaint to think of. I recommend this spot to all my friends and anyone around the area. Come hungry and eat all the beef you can enjoy
I came here for their lunch deal on a weekday and had a great time. For their lunch deal, which ends at 3pm, you just have to get seated before that time! And, the staff was so sweet and accommodating for my friend who came a bit later. The interior is bright and spacious, and tables are big for you to order lots of food. There are a variety of appetizers included in the AYCE deal (which most places don't do) so that was really nice. We tried their japchae, fish katsu, KFC, calamari, soondubu, and hotteok. We also got a variety of their beefs, which was solid quality and had lots of flavor. It was a shame that they didn't have radish or rice paper when we went, but I enjoyed eating the meat with their salad. Overall, solid AYCE KBBQ deal, and probably one of the more affordable ones in the city!
Sorry that this is a long review, but there's a lot to cover! After passing by this place many times, I decided to head in myself on a Saturday night (relatively late). There was a bit of a waitlist to get in but it wasn't too bad. It's great that they're open late! Although what I wasn't aware of when I walked in is that late at night only the premium menu is available. So you can get any of the items from the classic menu and the premium add-ons, but the price is higher (usually it seems there's an option to select from just the classic items for a lower price). It was $54 for myself before tax and tip as of 5/3/2025. The atmosphere is really pretty! I really liked the cool blue lighting and the comfortable booths. The room also has wonderful ventilation so I didn’t get much smoke in my face while grilling. The restaurant is also kept cool which was well appreciated when working with the hot grill (although when the grill was off I found it a bit chilly). The service was good enough. I looove that you can cook the food yourself! It's pretty rare to find that option in nyc, especially late at night! My server was respectful and pleasant, which was a plus. The food came out reasonably quickly, and I found that the 2 hour time limit was plenty of time for me to get my fill (and I'm an especially slow eater!). What I did find odd is that I was told my grill top would be changed after having cooked on it for a while, but nobody ever came to change it (the fond on the grill was starting to build up and burn quite a bit). I also only received the premium menu when I sat down, and only got the QR code for the classic menu after deliberately asking for it. As for the food, I got a bunch of meats and one side. I do wish there were some more non-meat options for the grill, like mushrooms or onions, but it's forgivable because meat takes priority in a place like this. Overall it was solid, here are my thoughts on everything I tried: - Wagyu: Thinly sliced and pretty tender. It had good flavor when paired with the dips. - Cajun Shrimp: Tasted fresh and delicious and had the shell and head on. The sauce that came with them was really yummy and went well with the shrimp (and some of the pork lol). Some pieces had the "vein" (intestinal tract) intact, so if that bothers you do keep that in mind (it's safe to eat don’t worry). Would totally recommend if you're willing to peel a bunch of shrimp. - Samgyubsal (pork belly): Crisped up nicely on the grill and had great flavor. Although I will say it was a bit tough to chew. - Hawaiian Bacon: Flavorful, but sliced far too thickly in my opinion. The thick cut made it really difficult to render the fat properly before burning the exterior, resulting in some big chunks of chewy fat after cooking. Maybe I should've cut it into tiny slabs before cooking? - Marinated Short Rib: Bone in. Was able to get a flavorful crust on the grill, but was a little chewy. A good pick. - Teriyaki Pork Chop: Bone in. Definitely my favorite meat of the night! It was just as flavorful as the rest of them but also really tender and juicy. It's a bit leaner (but still had the right amount of fat) so it didn’t need as much time to cook either. Would definitely recommend! - Rice Sticks - Chewy (in a good way) and flavorful. Although I personally wouldn't order them again because rice came complementary. - Pickled sides (complementary) All three of them were great and balanced out the fatty meats really well. The kimchi was a bit less flavorful than I expected. All in all, I thought Gen was a solid spot for Korean BBQ where you can cook it yourself. Considering that there isn't much competition late at night, it's a good pick. That being said, I do think there were a few things they could've done better. If you don't need late night hours, I do think that KPOT offers similar quality for a notably cheaper price (and you can order on the iPad!), although to be fair the wait to get into KPOT can be really long. I would recommend Gen if you're looking to cook your own Korean BBQ late at night.
You will smell like meat at the end of your meal. But I would go back again. Its good. My favorite is the marinated short rib and the churrasco type of steak. Soju in a pouch was one of my favorites too. I liked how they have salad, and they bring you rice w/o asking. Its fun to grill your own, and u should ask for napkins.
A really good value here - just wished the service would be more consistent. We were greeted by one server and he said he would be the one but we found out later, the entire staff roams and services every table which resulted in leaving items out of our order as one server didn't oversee our meal. We were a party of three and while the price for the lunch menu was good, the price for the dinner menu was even better as there are more meat selections and better marinades and choices of proteins. All in all a great deal if you have the appetite. All the beef dishes were great, skip the fried fish.
It’s All you can eat kbbq so can’t compare this to ktown bbq a la carte quality. Gen BBQ is from LA. I left completely stuffed but not completely satisfied. Pros: $32 for all you can eat meats with a lot of options Good service and attention. Changed the grill regularly and meats came out promptly. Cons: most the meats came frozen hard which doesn’t grill as well. Did not have some kbbq basic must haves like Korean lettuce, scallion salad or Egg soufflé. Also no soju / beer yet but that’s coming soon.
Stopped by Gen this last weekend, walking down 3rd Ave. Conveniently located on the corner of 14th street, it was great to find a Korean BBQ spot in this part of town. Unfortunately, it made me appreciate the many options in KTown all the more. First the good things. Great location on 14th and 3rd, if you don't feel like going to Koreatown. It's a large location with lots of tables and exhausts which means that there are lot of BBQ going on at once. It has a party atmosphere with good music and funky lighting. It's also an All You Can Eat with lots of options for the dinner offer at a very reasonable price. Some not so great things. You have to do the cooking yourself, not typical with Korean BBQ. It took us awhile to figure out that nobody was going to start cooking for us lol. As the various options started coming out, we were underwhelmed. The brisket wasn't bad, but the sirloin, short ribs, and pork were average. The various sides and sauce were ok as well. Overall, if Korean BBQ was available at a mall, Gen would fit right in. With so many amazing options in the city, I'll be passing next time. Location - 9 Service - 7 Quality - 5 Ambiance - 6
Good selection of various meats. Services is very fast. I would stay away from season meat since it will burn and blacken up the grill. This will slow down the grill heat up time and the amount you can eat. Try to stay with stuff you would like and keep those coming none stop. The salad helps wash down the oils and meats. You will thank me for it later. I stay away from soda and liquor since that is wasted space. Chicken take along time to cook on the grill to be aware they it done before you pull it off the grill. Reasonable prices good selection of meats what else can you ask for.
I had much better Korean BBQ in Flushing, K town or even in NJ. Let me describe what didn't live up to the norm for Korean BBQ in NYC. Food quality, the appetizers were greasy and deep fried, like fried frozen foods. The food quality was sacrificed by the all-you-can-eat price. The meats were not even evenly marinated, and they came out as big tangled blobs. The meats were full of gristle. The restaurant looks new and modern at first sight, and then you realized some vents were not working here. When it gets busy, that unpleasant cooking grease gets baked into your body and clothing. A few vents are visible not working. This is not a Korean BBQ spot for me! I give the place three stars for its location and great service provided by Rachel today, not the others.
I think limiting 4 meats per a table makes sense for tables of 2 but for table of 6 , it doesn't make sense. It took us forever to get full and end up seated longer than 2 hours ( we were given a last round order notice once 2 hours approach). Also had to hunt down waiter often to order and change grates. The grates burned easily. They should of pre-oil them or leave a piece of fat . The fried dessert took about 15 minutes to come out. The side dishes were just ok. For people that got rice, 3/4 noted really hard dried out rice. Parking is difficult so best to transit. This place has potential and could be better for large groups. The vents weren't that good. The floor was oily even for us that were wearing athletic shoes. The restrooms were gross. Hopefully management maintains adequate staffing levels. After tip and taxes , costed about $42 per person. If you want cheaper and better, head to flushing.
The food felt like it all had the same marination or same taste, which was a bit disappointing. The only standout for me was the marinated beef short rib, the rest was pretty average. For $54 per person, I expected a lot more. That said, Alex, our server, was outstanding and really elevated the experience.
Korean AYCE bbq restaurant. We tried to make reservations but they don't take reservations unless you are a party of 10 or more. We had a party of six. We got there around 6pm so there were quite a few empty tables. A lot of people were waiting for tables as we were leaving. As we sat down, each person got a bowl of rice. We told the server we don't want rice, she said it's free. Rice would not be charge as leftover food. I feel it was quite wasteful to give each person a bowl of rice that they didn't want. The server informed us we are only allow to order 4 plates each time but we can flag her down if we want to order more. The food comes out fast. It was odd that the server passes me the food instead of making an attempt to clear the table and put the food on the table. I understand the plates are heavy but services can be better. As the restaurant got busy we couldn't find our server. All the servers change the hot grill plate and let the oil dripped on the floor, so the floor are a bit slippery. The meats was fresh. They don't have lettuce for wrapping but they have the pickled radish and rice paper. You can order cooked appetizers while you wait for the meat to cook. We got a little bit creative and made kimchi fried rice on the grill. It turn out to be really good.
When we visited, the food was very good. However, the service was disappointing. Our server seemed rushed and did not check on us the way other servers checked on their tables. The only time she approached us was to change our tray, and even then, she would walk away while we were in the middle of asking for more food, forcing us to call her back. Overall, the food was great, but the service was poor. When we were done and we still had food to cook she turned it off while my food was cooking .
The food was not fresh. The Korean fried chicken was cold. One of the cups had lip marks on them and we had to get it swapped. We ordered steak and it came out completely frozen and we had to wait for it to thaw. Also ended up having bad GI issues the next day. Quality of the meat needs improvement!!! Also, they kept forgetting parts of my order.
Very very underwhelming compared to what this looked like, felt like and taste wise (terrible) compared to when the restaurant first opened up. Please bring Russ back and the grand opening team back as well as the amazing waitress Rachel who we were sad to hear was no longer with the company. The waitress was less than accommodating to our family and the experience was truly an unpleasant one. Bobby the manager was a nice person to meet and explain to that this felt very very different than when we experienced the dedication to excellent customer service that was in display non stop. I hope that they can turn it around because this was a really good place to eat once upon a time
The food was really bad. I mean some things were decent but for a premium menu I'm thinking most things should be good. We got the wagyu and it was so thin it shriveled into nothing mere seconds on the grill. The Cajun pork belly was inedible. The beef tongue had no flavor. The ribeye is actually pretty nice. The bone something or another wasn't bad but getting the bone off was work. The only thing that saved this restaurant was my server Raechel. I think that's how you spell it. She was great. And she kept gushing over my nephew. The drink was nice too but I won't be coming back.
I went there about 6 months ago with my fiancé, that night we had a rave and I was not dressed appropriately for the restaurant, but regardless Im a human being and I deserve respect no matter how I was dressed like. There was this waitress who was extremely rude who wore way too much moisturizing cream in her face. She gave us old water, she didn’t even replace the water for a fresh one, and when asked if we could get some drinks like soju or something else she kept pushing us to buy another bundle even though we already had a bundle, so we just had old water to drink. The food was average, left us hungry to be honest, we where expecting more meat but there where more veggies than meat. Not worth the price. The experience left me never wanting to go again.
This all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ fell short of expectations. Your table chooses the items they want and then you wait until your waiter appears to give him the selections. You're then advised that you're only allowed 2 meat items and a total of 4 plate selections per ‘round’. Each round is when the waiter appears to take your next order. While there's unlimited rounds, he only reappeared every 20 minutes or so to check on the tables progress. Be aware there is a two-hour time limit. With the limited number of plates allowed per round and portion sizes made it difficult to try a variety of dishes. Smoke and grease filled the air, leaving us smelling like grilled food long after we left. Overall, this wasn't an enjoyable dining experience, and we won't be returning.
Tl;dr Affordable kbbq, not authentic, terrible ventilation, slippery floor, subpar service. Edible but there are so many other better options out there. Food: Edible but mostly lacking and inauthentic (this bit is okay if your expectations are set accordingly), even for this price point. Beef bulgogi was like a mush. Assorted vegetables was sad-looking (2 thin pieces of bell pepper, etc.). Japchae was bad, just thrown together with a handful slices of bell pepper. Soondubu jjigae was very bell-peppery (inauthentic) but not bad. Galbi, pork bulgogi, potato salad were fine. Service: Lots of servers but it was hard to get service. Our main server was responsive once we identified him and on moments we could catch him, but when we flagged servers initially (wasn't obvious which server covered our table), we were coldly rejected or ignored multiple times - not a good experience. Atmosphere: Ventilation is terrible - there's basically no working ventilation really. The entire restaurant was very smoky and smelled of burnt fat - the bathroom was unbelievably the part of the restaurant with the most breathable air. Most kbbq restaurants have this problem to some degree but I've never seen it this bad, not even close! The floor was very slippery, a fall hazard.
The waiter was rly nice. But we got the appetizer LAST. After over an hour. Frozen meal vibes. Not good at all. Everything forgotten about basically. Grease all over floors. Don’t come here unless you’re one of the many groups of people that come here that aren’t classy.
First of all, came to the 3rd Ave location in nyc and ladies if your wearing heels, BE CAREFUL, the floor is extremely slippery. I slipped and no waiter really cared. Secondly, our waiter was not very pleasant, I tried to ask for any suggestions as this was my first time, he really didn’t give me any suggestions. Third, we asked for Sauce about 3 times.the sause did not come until we finished our food. The meat is good, however it’s very fatty. Personal preference but the waiter ( in order to earn a good tip) could have guided me the customer to pick something that wasn’t as fatty but no, the waiter didn’t really care. My next point would be when you were paying we asked the waiter to split the bill two ways and he didn’t seem to understand the concept next when he came back to give us our card he said and I quote normally people leave a tip, however we felt that his service was shitty and not efficient or effective enough after we paid. We went to the restroom and when we came out of the restroom, he asked us to give him more of a tip, which is not the right way to ask for tips.
Food was more or less good, service could’ve been way better. Felt like waiter was non existent and not attentive. They stopped had and no oil and stopped giving oil for grill; messed with the quality of the food. Atmosphere was alright could be better. In the future I hope you guys address these issues.
I started writing this after being here for 30 minutes. We came during lunchtime but apparently it was all-day dinner today. Amounted to ~$41 per person which is way too much for the quality we experienced. Food: Appetizers were underwhelming. The fish and cheese katsu were okay, but the rice cakes (tteokbokki) were dry like they’d just been thawed. The KFC and calamari frits were fast food quality. Meats were weirdly dry (also like they’ve been thawed) and just generally poor quality. Rice was hard??? No butter or anything greasy to oil the grill. Environment: Loud rap playing from the kitchen, smoke alarm also went off 8x within the 2 hours from the kitchen, service is slow and forgetful (another waitress asked us if we wanted more when we hadn’t even received our meats yet), splashed sauce on us as they were taking away our plates, smoke kept blowing in my face (not sure whose fault this is), didn’t bring us our check for 15 minutes after request.
Worst experience ever waiting 36mins to get one slice of pork belly and just get ignored from server and two guy wearing suits and keep moving to other tables the worst ever . I also work at the restaurant so l know the food service and the other tables who order after us got their food more than 3times in front of us .
Dinner proteins fell short, with the pork belly lacking tenderness and the fried chicken sporting an overly thick batter coating of almost half an inch, a problem also seen in the calamari, highlighting the need for improvement. Service standards were not met, as pre-busing was noticeably absent, even during low occupancy periods, leading to empty plates and missing side dishes. Grill replacements were slow, and carbon buildup was evident. Atmospheric conditions, including air conditioning and table cleanliness, also require adjustment.
Honestly, I’ve been to this place 5 times prior and never have had this kind of experience. I’m gravely disappointed and disgusted in the service that has come firstly not greeted at the door. Then I was walking to the workers in the back “the bathroom is only for customers “ firstly if you would’ve greeted me you would’ve known I was a customer but instead of keeping me at bay. Disgusting, incredibly disappointed by the dumplings and the ribs that I ordered to be hot to turn out to be cold . Secondly if I ask someone for a fork and spoon more than 3 times I would assume someone would’ve brought it but no. I have to ask for a 4th time. There is only 4 tables what kind of difficulty is it. I saw you guys just chatting while ignoring that our plate had got charcoaled without switching it which made our bbq not good and too burnt without it even being properly cooked … if I could give this place a 0 I would but I can’t so I give you a 1.
Buffet is great and priced on an average scale for Korean bbq AYCE. Staff is really nice tooo!! Went to get a takeout yesterday and it got me furious!!! I paid $30 for a huge box of rice and very little meat. I put a takeout menu picture down below for reference. They updated their menu and haven’t posted online but the pictures on both menu were pretty much the same. Nowwww, does the bento box I actually purchased look even half way close to the one on the menu picture???🤣 what’s with all that rice??? That meat is meant for 1 person while the rice is meant for 4 people. For every one bite of meat, I need to take 4 BIGGG scoops of rice. I’m Asian but come onnn this is just ridiculous!! Omg the beef rib was $2.5 extra but it was THINLY slice and tasted odddd similar to meat that gone bad. I wasted extra money just to eat crap😭 My word of advice: ok to go to their buffet but don’t do their pickup menu
This place is a joke. The quality of the food is worse than even fast food. The place is overstaffed yet no one seems to want to help, and the place seems to be designed so that you leave as soon as possible after collecting the buffet money. The calamari steak simply did not cook, but maybe it was my fault for expecting something good from a $30 buffet. The meat was cut absurdly thinly, and the appetizers tasted like they had been microwaved. How on Earth does this place have good reviews?
This is by far the worst korean bbq we had so far. Service was too slow. No one collected empty plates. Max 4 meats only per round allowed to order and when u order 2nd round takes forever. We requested kimchi and nothing came. They gave us wrong food not what we ordered. Our server was not even smiling and u can see in her face she was not happy to served.
I really don’t like to leave reviews. But one of the worst Korean bbq I’ve been too. They serve you bag ramen noodles and claim they don’t know about it because they don’t place the ordering. They grills are horrible everything burn so quickly they don’t offer no oils or anything like a sauce bar. Was very disappointed. The floors are terribly slippery with no signs up. This place I would not recommend to anyone
If I could give it 0 stars I would , poor service . Food all taste the same . The waitress had a attitude, every 5 mins on the phone or putting on lip gloss , constantly forgetting things we are telling her we want , spoke with the manager & he seemed as if he didn’t care much about what I was saying . I won’t be back 😃
This place should not be listed as Korean barbeque, because it's anything but. The way they explain how their restaurant works is not clear. There were 4 actual parties that left after entering and hearing how the restaurant works, and one had actually already been seated. That should have been a Red flag, but we stayed. The food we were provided was low quality. We were given 2 and a half ribs for 3 people. The chicken was like some microwaved situation with sauce, the calamari was soggy and the shrimp were the kind you would buy in the store and bake/cook. I can't even describe the other items, because I just don't know. Clearly this restaurant needs to go back to the drawing board and do better. We will not be returning.
I was very impressed with how delicious everything was. The drinks are amazing !! I got the passion fruit capri soju it was perfect. Update: This place has gone downhill compared to my previous visits. Our waitress was very rude, did not seem enthusiastic to serve us. Took someone's else's order even though we arrived first. Took forever to bring us water. It wasn't even that busy. Had to ask for our drinks twice, had to ask for our check twice. I was told that one of the employees wasn't going to wash their hands before leaving the bathroom after taking a number 2 until they noticed that a customer was in the restroom with them. This team needs training on how to properly treat their customers and hygiene practice.
A group of us(4) visited here for a friend's birthday. This isn't the first time that we've been here. It was not busy when we arrived. We waited about 5 minutes or more for the host to come to the front as no one was at the booth to greet us. We were eventually greeted. Our waiter was nice but not attentive. We placed our first order of 3 steak dishes and a chicken dish. The chicken and one of the steak dishes came out. We waited a few minutes more and the other dishes still didnt arrive. Luckily the first steak dish arrived for my pregnant friend. With a timer on, we waited and searched for our waiter because he was not in sight. 20 actual minutes go by. It's not an exaggeration. The waiter comes and asked how everything is going and we proceed to tell him that we're missing 2 dishes. He was empathetic about it and we got the other 2 steak dishes shortly after. In the midst of this. A couple sits next to us, got their drinks, ordered and received their food before we got the other 2 steak dishes. Their waitress was on fire! We wish we had her. While finally starting yhe full round with my friends, servers kept coming to our table with food we didn't order.
Me and my friend visits lots of Korean bbq places and restaurants and I didn't enjoy anything here. It was super duper packed and the whole place smelled like food that lingers on your clothes the bad way. The bathrooms were nice and clean though. The food was all mid, you can find better Korean Bbq places with lower price. I didn't enjoy the food at all. We ordered almost all of their beef and chicken and bunch of already made food like their KFC chicken and their rice cakes, and the chicken tastes like frozen chicken covered in Chinese takeout ducksauce, the rice cakes were hard and chewy and also covered in same sauce. Their shrimp fried with tartar sauce was so bitter that I couldn't even eat 3 pieces. And we ordered the calamari ring 2 times and both time we didn't receive it. They kept delaying the orders. Me and one other friend together spend 90 dollars. It was just overall not a good experience. And it was overwhelming just being there. Wouldn't go back. Save your money and eat at a nice restaurant. P.s. the employees were definitely nice and working hard.
