Great brasserie! Classic French cousins and decent prices on wine! It’s a tight space, but the food is worth it!
We had an absolutely wonderful meal at La Boite en Bois a few days ago before seeing the Magic Flute at Met Opera. The staff is all-around superb, making us feel very welcome. The food was great. We had ceasar salad, which has great romano cheese, moules frites (mussels with fries), and rabbit, the evening's special. The latter may be an acquired taste to some, but I loved it and would recommend. The setting is very charming, ideal for a night on the town. Reservation is just about a must as it is rather small. We will definitely go back again!
How did I fail to see this place until now? Their execution sets them apart completely. Your taste buds will demand return trips. The team members show warmth while staying focused on service. I located this nice restaurant through online reviews.
Feels like Valentine’s here. Maybe it was the ambience or creme brulee. The seafood crepes unique and superb. For me though, it’s the simple things some times. Ok, mushroom ravioli are not simple —my favorite at La Boite. They have a wonderful wild mushroom flavor that pair with any wine. Overall, kudos to the chef and team for making it feel like Valentine’s as I fell in love with that generous mushroom appetizer. You know it’s good when you see regular locals (see photo) here. Tout le repas était une force merveilleuse.
Everything was absolutely delicious! A bit pricier than I normally choose but worth the splurge, especially for a special occasion. We started with the Homemade Crab Cake with Herb Mayo & Cucumber Salad appetizer (we were hungry so forgot to take a pic). Then I had the Pan-Seared Salmon with a Honey Mustard Crust & Couscous which is melt in your mouth good. My dining partner are every bite of their Seafood Crepes in a Mushroom Sauce & Couscous. We closed with coffee and two desserts: Crème Brûlée (oooh-so-creme-y!) and Profiteroles which were so good I had a spoon in each hand! Would absolutely go again, and already looking for the occasion to do it!
Excellent French dishes!! What a wonderful place to have a meal! Around the corner from the 1 train or the C and B trains. The delicious dishes were prepared wonderfully. Service was attentive. Great place to take for a date or just catch up with friends. You can take reservations inside but outdoors is first come first serve! I recommend this place if you are in the Lincoln center area.
After a visit to the Apple Store on the Upper West Side, we sauntered over and ate outdoors here. Nice setup and terrific food. We had the chicken scallopini and crab cake salad. Loved them both. The staff was very careful and wore masks throughout. Highly recommend and we will be back!
Decent food - everything is fresh. The French Onion Soup and Crab Cakes were great. Seafood crepes was so so. Salmon was a little dry. Cool atmosphere inside with 80s music which was odd but I’m a fan. Service is a 3 star as they throw the credit card machine in your face - stand over you while showing only 18% and up tip options. Cannot stand that.
Service was great. Prompt, polite and timely The interior fits its name “wooden box”. The place is a small southern French feel. Tables are a bit too close to each other. Not so flexible. We were fine at our little table, but another elderly couple came in and asked if they could have a larger table for 4. (As a way of background, it was 5pm and it was only my wife, myselfI and these two elderly ladies. They denied their request despite a dozen empty tables. A bit narrow viewed was my take. Not our first time here. While we like the food and the service, it’s a bit pricey. My wife and I had two bottles of sparkling water, one appetizer each and one entree each-came to $228.00 - portions are good, and food is tasty— but they need to work on their table spacing and price. With all this said, we will go back, but not as often as we return to other places.
food was a little disappointing. the pate was pretty bland and the crab cakes were unremarkable. the duck was the biggest letdown — tasted dry and flavorless, but the gravy helped a bit. salads were a highlight. but at this price point, not worth it. the environment and staff were absolutely amazing and attentive.
This is the place if you want zero privacy and to enjoy 2 other table conversations next to you! Host gave us a table at the entrance and I was freezing the entire night because the door was opening every 5 seconds. Posted pictures how close are other tables. Tables are so small that this is how my escargot was served (btw, it was not hot at all)
We made a reservation 4 days ago on open table, received a confirmation email from OpenTable, as well as reminders, of the reservation, including several on the day of the reservation only to be told when we arrived that the restaurant didn’t have any record of it. Even though we showed the email confirming our reservation, the restaurant said all they could do was to serve us quickly and we would have to leave in an hour. This was to have been my husband’s birthday dinner. We will not be returning.
We went to this restaurant and unfortunately had a very bad experience. The waiter started rushing us to leave at 8:30 pm, even though the restaurant only closes at 9:30 pm. For such high prices, the service was extremely poor and disrespectful. We only left a 10% tip because of the way we were treated, and on top of that, as we were leaving, the waiter actually complained about the tip. I would not recommend going there during the week — definitely not worth it.
This is the most disgusting food I have ever eaten and a very unhappy server (and sad chef, it was lunchtime, no customers but the chef seemed exhausted/not enthusiastic) if I have ever met one. There are tons of restaurants around, try anything but this place. I was holding on to the memory of old days when it used to be the one of the best french spots, atlas…the time has passed. I am nauseated, should have tried the pizza or the Italians at the corner
My parents visited La Boite en Bois last weekend and found a steel nail/screw in their food. Yes, a nail. The waiter/kitchen admitted the nail was from their kitchen and they merely provided two free steak entrees (worth ~$90). They did not even compensate the entire meal (~$250 total meal) let alone provide additional compensation for potentially killing a customer. Service was well below average for a restaurant that is supposed to be somewhat nice. They did not do anything unless called up on or asked. No bread or even plates / silverware with the bread and no water refills unless asked. Regardless, the restaurant is extremely lucky we did not eat the nail, otherwise it would obviously be lawsuit worthy. Luckily we looked at the food but anyone could have just scooped up a bite without looking. Imagine an elderly person, a kid, or anyone just eating their food normally could have been sent to the hospital immediately. There really does not need to be any more said here. They clearly did not provide sufficient compensation or remorse.
