This is a very busy and large sized restaurant near Central Park West / Lincoln Center / Bway. We made a booking and got a table pretty quick (so, be sure to make a booking). It’s very noisy in the restaurant but that’s due to the sheer size and volume of people. Service was speedy and food was good. Outdoor seating available. Plenty of restrooms. Great for a weekend brunch. Breakfast menu and lunch options. Kid friendly.
I came here for dinner during the holiday season. It was quite crowded, but I was happy to get a table. The service was really nice. The food was delicious. I had the burger my partner had the chicken sandwich.
Great place to warm up and have tasty food on a cold day. Staff were helpful and.kind. seemed like a family restaurant vibe. Dessert drinks were exceptional and went well with the toffee cake.
Passing by The Smith for diner made us want to come back the second day to try out their Brunch menu. Food Taste: 8/10 Friendliness of Staff: 9/10 Restaurant Ambiance: 7/10 Value for Money: 8/10 Quick Tip: For diner, the Mushroom Pizza is a must. For Brunch, ask for some extra Maple Sirup for a nice additional Mix to the Pecan Pancakes.
Excellent brunch menu. We got lucky to get a table outside on a nice sunny day. Made it an amazing experience. We tried sicilian eggs, salmon Benedict and prosciutto sandwich. Paired it with cappuccino and peach bellinis. Came back for dinner to have tomato soup, kale and quinoa shrimp salad and shrimp squid ink pasta. Prices have gone up. $30 for a salad.
isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a warm, inviting ambience that sets the stage for a memorable meal. The stylish decor, coupled with the lively atmosphere, creates the perfect backdrop for a night out with friends or a special occasion.
The Smith had served some of the best breakfast that I’ve ever had! The food from top to bottom was just the absolute beat! I had the famous cinnamon pancakes with pecans that were just so good! Buttermilk with rich flavors was really delicious. Then you can’t go wrong with some eggs and their chicken sausage which was so good as well and the home fries! This is one of the best spots in New York when you’re looking for a place to dine and and relax to enjoy breakfast. Customer service is wonderful and the atmosphere inside is very calming and relaxed. Definitely come and try this spot out you don’t want to miss out.
Very nice, comfortable place. Good drinks and food, fast and professional service. It's super crowded on Friday evening. Better to reserve ahead. They have outdoor and indoor seating. There's a huge bar inside too. Restrooms are well maintained. We ordered few drinks, lobster roll and salmon for dinner. I liked the City Bird a lot. Salmon was cooked excellent with all side ingredients complimenting the dish. Lobster roll was yummy, served with crunchy fries. I was impressed with their service. The food came out so fast. We were in and out within 45 minutes.
The Smith is situated right next to central park and has a wide variety of American breakfast with veg and non veg options. I had ordered their Cauliflower sandwich with fries and loved every ounce of it. The cherry on the top was their sticky toffee pudding. It’s a must try at this place. Also had some lovely drinks and had a great time dinning with family.
Really like this place. The staff is so nice. The food is amazing - the vegetarian option for brunch, which is BAHN-MI sandwhich and dinner menu the penne alla vodka. So good. Also try the zero proof / NA mocktails, especially- the city bird. Really nice vibes, great atmosphere. Definitely recommend it.
Bustling, friendly , superbly fresh and tasteful. A delightful oasis of high quality options to take your weight off your feet whilst touring manhattan and the ideal pre metropolitan opera show dinner. Wonderfully surprised by the breadth of the vegetarian menu with cauliflower tacos, vegetarian bibambop, and even gluten free pasta with truffle sauce! The apple pie is the best. The service was superb, attentive, friendly and fast - definitely coming again
We had a great dinner at The Smith! Justin R. was our server. He did an excellent job taking care of us. He knew the menu well and convinced me to try the weekly special. He was kind and attentive with his table touches. I’d also recommend adding the chicken kebab to the menu.
Love this place. Great atmosphere. Excellent staff. Delicious food! I hosted a client dinner here and I couldn't ask for a better experience. Our server Giuherme was the perfect person for our group. He was helpful, personable, made great recommendations and tremendously professional. I look forward to coming back!
Love the Smith. This is one of my favorite locations. The cocktails are great and the food is amazing. I enjoy sitting outside and seeing Lincoln Center across the street and people watching. The mussels and fries is probably my favorite. And they have sticky toffee pudding ALL YEAR LONG!
Just wrapped a great evening. Started with an opera at the Met and followed with an amazing dinner at the Smith. We didn’t get there until 11:20 but it worked out since they are open until midnight. The place was packed and the food is great. The service was also good. The pasta and chicken pot pie were amazing. A great place to go for a late and great dinner.
The Smith is amazing! I had a latte and the eggs Benedict, and both were absolutely delicious. The staff are so sweet and incredibly attentive, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. Plus, the location, right near Lincoln Center, makes it the perfect spot for brunch before a show or a stroll through the city. Highly recommend!
I’ve been here three times; a breakup dinner, to rewrite the narrative, and to introduce a friend to the place. The experience is always 5/5 ⭐️ and I’ll always return if I’m in the area. Great food, good ambience, and conveniently located near Lincoln Center and other attractions. The sesame calamari is always a winner!
Wonderful atmosphere. A New Yorker scene and place. The food is great, and I can tell you the kitchens downstairs are super clean and very well kept. I know because I was working for the landlord there for 30 years. This place is amazing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everyone enjoys the wonderful American style food in the heart of the city.
The atmosphere was amazing, the decorations are as well. The food was out of this world. Ordered an eggs Benedict and their Mac n cheese with grilled Chicken. Everytbing was phenomenal. The icing on the cake was our drinks served by our server Jacqueline. She was the friendliest and welcoming server. She really made the entire experience. We travel here from New Jersey and we're absolutely making the trip again after this experience.
Absolutely delicious restaurant for dinner! I would most highly recommend the Potato Chips with Bleu Cheese, which were unique and flavorful, the Roasted Tomato Soup, which was fresh and cheesy, the Little Gem Caesar, which had nice parmesan crisps, and the Ricotta Gnocchi which was homemade and just divine! The service is also friendly and the cadence of the service is perfect.
The Lincoln Square location is one of our go-to whenever we visit Central Park bec it’s just right around the corner. We love their potato chips with blue cheese fondue for appetizer, and I always order their black pasta, while my husband orders their gnocchi. If the weather is nice, we usually do outside seating.
Great location if you want to be near Lincoln Square. The Smith burger was delicious and the roast beef with au jus was fantastic. We made a reservation ahead of time so getting a table was very easy. The wait staff was very attentive. The prices were comparable with other NYC places.
What a great dining experience on our last night of vacation in NYC! We went in just before 5pm on a Sunday. It looked super busy, so we weren't sure if we would get in, but we were seated right away. Our waiter, Travis, was fantastic! So friendly and attentive. Actually, the entire staff was attentive! When our water bottle was empty, it was immediately refilled. Travis let us know when our food order was put in with the kitchen, and we didn't wait long at all. Go on Sunday and get the chicken parm special! You will not regret it! It tasted amazing, was cooked perfectly, and was absolutely worth the 5-Star review. I highly recommend!!
This restaurant, located right in front of Lincoln Center, is always busy with lots of customers. The food is reasonably good, and the atmosphere is pleasant enough. I had the chance to experience their Thanksgiving Day menu. While the price was higher due to the special occasion, every dish was delicious and perfectly suited for the holiday. I visited with a guest, and it felt like a great choice to provide a memorable dining experience.
Honestly a great experience with Kristine, she was my server today, she gave me a great experience with my girlfriend. I would come again for the Hot chocolate, and the sticky toffee pudding, she was great and honestly just amazing experience. I hope someone gives her props for being a great server!!!! I will definitely be coming back here again
Great time spent at the smith! Our server, Jesse, was amazing! Outstanding service and knowledge on the menu with frequent check-ins but not bothering us every second. Will definitely be back because of his service!
Great food and drink - it was a tad noisy inside but the food made up for it. Shared the kale salad which was delicious as well as the salmon tartare which was not like other restaurants, this came sushi style on a brick of crispy rice which was delicious as well and perfect for sharing lunch with a companion.
We visited one of the several The Smith restaurant locations at Lincoln Square. It was middle of the week, Wednesday, somewhere before 6pm. It already was filled with customers but we got lucky to have a table without any waiting. Casual atmosphere was very inviting and friendly. And in one hour the place was fully packed. The menu list done in dark color with tiny little white letters and it made me hard to read it. A helpful server gave us some suggestions and we picked up BLUE CHEESE WEDGE and BLACK TRUFFLE ARANCINI as starters and DUCK FRITES for main dish offered as a special on Wednesday. Table gets one bottle of spring and one of sparkling water and 2 pieces of freshly baked sourdough bread with salted butter as a complement which is nice. This order was more than enough for two people. The salad was sprinkled with a lot of sliced onions, lacking sauce and was not really enjoyable. ARANCINI was made from a delicious risotto, formed as fried balls, had creamy and cheesy consistency with the crunchy crust on the top with very flavorful sauce. We loved them. DUCK FRITES were two duck thighs cooked until tender and served with rich creamy white sauce and I believe which had a horseradish notes in it. The duck was coming with nicely done fries. Cut the piece of duck, deep in the sauce and you will enjoy it until the last bite. If it will happen to dine on Wednesday I highly recommend you to try this great entire. Be aware that the tables inside the restaurant are located very close to each other and conversations among the guests creates a lot of noise so if you are looking for more intimacy maybe this place is not a good fit. Overall it was a great experience, tasty dinner and I’m definitely coming back.
We loved the place. The food was good, on time! We made a reservation for brunch 45 mins before. Its easier… the waiting time by just walking in looks long. We order a spicy salmon tartare that was so crunchy and tasty; I algo got a Matcha latte that was rich and perfect temperature. For main course I order a Kale quinoa salad that was really good too. The chips with blue cheese on top were also really good! Definitely a good place for brunch.
Massive Restaurant! I didn’t think we would be getting seating after we went to see the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center - right across the way- but there was a whole back area and we were seated within 3-5 mins with a packed house! We had some drinks, the calamari was outstanding, I loved the selections for oysters and the entrees were also very delicious! Would highly recommend and plan to go back!
Thorough enjoyed our meals and the busy vibe at The Smith. Conveniently located directly across the street from Lincoln Center and The Metropolitan Opera, it was the perfect spot to hit before our concert. The wait staff were superb, The short rib pasta, the chicken milanese, and sticky toffee pudding were excellent. Nice drink menu and wine list as well. Can't wait to go back! Make a reservation!
Had such an amazing time here! Genesis was our waitress and she was fantastic! Was so patient and kind, even though I took forever to order. We got the smith burger and chimichurri steak and both were absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend! We will definitely be back next time we are in NY!!
Consistently good. I've dined here many times over the years and have always enjoyed my meals. I recently popped in for Sunday brunch and we were able to be seated immediately outdoors. The heating lamps are comfortable. I ordered the pancakes which I demolished within minutes. They were soooooo delicious. The french toast is also very very good.
If you are looking for a classic American experience, this is the place for you. Just across the street from Lincoln Center, this place is very big and swarming on the weekends. We ate the classic eggs Benedict and also the veggie version with spinach, which was amazing and a perfect ceaser salad. The shrimp and grits were extraordinary. Complimentary sparkling water to the table is a big plus point. The only problem is the acoustic. When the place is full, you can barely hear yourself, let alone the music.
Food- 5/5 Service- 5/5 Ambience- 5/5 Drinks- 5/5 Value-5/5 The Smith is a great place to get some brunch, hang and have some cocktails. Their drinks were delicious and used fresh ingredients (fresh squeezed OJ in the mimosa). The food was unique and tasted amazing and you get great value for the prices. I considered taking away half a star for service because of how long we had to wait to get more water and our check at the end of the meal, but they were very busy and I’m sure that our server was being stretched thin. Kenny was working very hard and probably deserves a raise.
We had a party of five and everyone enjoyed their meals and dessert. I had the spicy shrimp scampi pasta dish and it was delish. The service was excellent and the restaurant had a nice vibe. I would highly recommend The Smith to those looking for a trendy casual spot to dine in NYC!
Recently, I and a friend went to NYC to see Carmen at the Met. The Smith was right across the street from our hotel so we went there for breakfast. In a word, outstanding! We both had the half eggs Benedict. The hollandaise makes or breaks eggs Benedict. Theirs was spot on. Even more exceptional since we were dining after the breakfast rush. Coffee was also excellent and our waitress kept it coming. The atmosphere is ideal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Kinda like a club. Prices were very reasonable when you consider this is Manhattan. If we had known, we would have gone there for lunch and a nightcap. Prices definitely beat our hotel’s.
A nice spot. Crowded for a cold, wet Sunday night but I enjoyed it. The food was good. Not really what I wanted but my party enjoyed theirs. We were all visiting from out of town and it was a short walk from Jazz at Lincoln Center. Service was good and attentive. The staff is really nice. It was my son’s birthday so he got a nice complimentary dessert. Overall a nice evening.
This location uniquely caters to the crowd attending performances at Lincoln Center. We had a 4:30 reservation for a 7:30pm performance. My reservation time was honored and we were sat right away. The service was attentive and we didn’t feel rushed at all despite spending 2 and a half hours at the table the week before Christmas in NYC. Food quality and quantity was great. We enjoyed the oyster sampler which was extremely fresh. The restaurant tends to get loud, but you can somehow still hear the person sitting across the table from you without a problem. Will definitely return.
I had a great time with two friends at this restaurant. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. The burger was particularly tasty. We ordered The Smith burger, and I also had a refreshing cucumber cocktail. For dessert, we enjoyed some apple pie and chocolate cake. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning. The waitress was very experienced and friendly.
As you enter through heavy double wooden doors, you find yourself in a restaurant with a fun casual vibe with a monochromatic theme with mosaic tiles pays homage to traditional old-time bistro-pub. I took a seat at the bar and ordered The Smith Burger. To my delight, sparkling water was offered as a complementary drink, which I sipped on while I waited. The burger came out and I was immediately drawn in by the freshly fried onions and the TSB sauce. I bit into the burger which was perfectly medium rare as I had ordered it, which was elevated by the homemade bacon shallot jam and pickles contrasted by the sharp cheddar cheese. I also very much enjoyed the side salad a large portion of fresh mixed greens and vinaigrette. After completing my meal I set my silverware on the dish and put my napkin on the table to signal that I was done. I went downstairs to wash my hands, and came back to find the plate still there, and that the bottle of water had not been replenished. Arnaud, the manager, asked how my meal was, and I told him that I delighted in the food, but was a little disappointed in the service. He very kindly offered a dessert on the house, and I accepted an oat milk latte. What wonderful surprise to receive a cafe quality drink to finish my meal. I will definitely be coming to this location of The Smith again for the food and attentiveness of management.
Exactly across the street from Lincoln Center and in the heart of the Upper West Side, The Smith is filled with everyone from pre- and post-theatergoers to neighborhood families to global travelers, where my partner and I decided on brunch last Saturday. The reservation was easily made with OpenTable. Each location of this establishment boasts a unique ambiance, blending modern design with classic elements - a nod to old-school New York. Upon entering, the interior is characterized by open layouts, communal tables, and a lively atmosphere, making it suitable for everyone. We were greeted by the host and got a table in a private room usually held for special events. Their menu features a variety of classic American dishes, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients. As an appetizer, we opted for the Mac & Cheese and Crispy Calamari. As a main meal, we decided on Avocado Toast and a French Dip Sandwich accompanied by Fries. Complimentary sourdough bread with salted butter and one bottle of spring water and one of sparkling water started our meal. The Mac and Cheese served in a mini skillet was phenomenal. The cheese was dripping, and the noodles were perfectly chewy, with the top having that crust, too. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly portioned. The cost didn’t break the wallet. We had the pleasure of having Adonis as our server, and the service was quick. He was fantastic and would check on us. This place provides satisfaction.
I'm so glad we came here for lunch on our anniversary on July 15th. This was by far the best restaurant we've been to in New York City. We over-ordered a bit, but it was worth it. Because we had a reservation, there was no wait time. The server (wish I recalled his name, our check number was #100), was superb. He checked on us often and made us feel appreciated and valued (unlike our experience at Lucali the day prior). We started with the shrimp cocktail ($19 but so worth it) and a new Chips and Dip item they apparently just added to the menu. A small side of veggies came with the appetizers. I went boujee with my drink order and had the Lunch IPA from Maine Beer Company, hey, we were celebrating 25 years. :) My wife ordered a salad and I had the French Dip, both were absolutely delicious and perfect-portioned. I ordered a shot of espresso to combat the food comma I was in. To our surprise, the manager comp'd a delicious pudding dessert with a candle on it, apparently something they are well-known for - it was AWESOME! I'm not a huge pudding fan (I'm a chocoholic), but I'll definitely order that again when we visit again. Over all, our experience was the perfect 25th Anniversary lunch that we'll remember forever.
Stopped by The Smith on a Tuesday during lunch hour, surprisingly lively but still had available tables. The place was spotless, well-organized, and had a welcoming vibe from the moment I walked in. Every staff member I encountered, from the host to the lovely server Joyce, was genuinely warm and attentive. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and perfect for a quick but satisfying bite. Even the small touches like clean utensils and fresh garnishes ... all stood out. It’s a great go-to spot for a casual lunch, conveniently located right across from Lincoln Center. Whether you're catching a matinee or just in the area, The Smith hits all the right notes.
My husband and I took a spontaneous trip to New York with no plans as to where to eat, what we would do, etc, and we landed here for dinner and boy did we luck out! The food was incredible, we had the calamari, arancini, and their potato chips with blue cheese fondue, all of which were spectacular! We had the pleasure of having Justin R as our server, he was fantastic and recommended a wonderful cocktail, the Cucumber Loco (tequila drink). Finally, we happened to get a chance to try the apple tart for dessert and wow! I am not normally a dessert person but this was fantastic. Hands down we would come back again next time we visit the city. The restaurant, the food, the staff and the atmosphere were all amazing!
On another beautiful evening in NYC we decided to dine outside at The Smith. It was a great choice as we were treated so well and enjoyed excellent food. We started with two wonderful appetizers the roasted tomato soup and black truffle arancini. We then moved on to the steak and The Smith Burger. Both were prepared to our liking and the French fries and roasted squash sides were satisfying. We finished with the very tasty sticky toffee pudding and apple tart. Yes it was a good night at The Smith.
Lunch for two, on Valentines Day. Walked in, no wait. The Brussels sprouts are INCREDIBLE. The bread is good. The Kale salad with grilled shrimp is delicious. My husband had the salmon salad, salmon arrived undercooked (nearly raw), the kitchen took quite some time to return the salad. We did not eat together but unbeknownst to us, they removed the salad from the bill. Overall the experience was good, we do recommend and will return.
I came here Sunday brunch around 11AM. I got the Eggs Benedict and it was the best I've ever had. The home fries had a unique twist being heavily seasoned accompanied with onions. My mom got the goat cheese omelette. Outdoor seating is a bit crowded and the service was a bit slow. Indoors they have a very nice bathroom for patrons. I definitely recommend this place for brunch if you couldn't get a reservation at Tavern On The Green (which is what happened to us).
I got the eggplant, calamari and pasta with squid ink? Everything was really good especially the eggplant!!! I’m not vegetarian but I could convert if it meant eating this everyday. The cocktails were very good and overall ambience was vibrant, busy and just that upper West side ambience of class and NYC nightlife. Definitely recommend. Would only go back for special occasions though as it is on the higher price range but definitely a go to spot!
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, efficient and quick service. We shared the Citrus/Goat Cheese salad, very tasty. Each of us had Shrimp & Grits’s, a delightful dish. The Honey Crisp Apple Pie needs to be much warmer, but the texture was good, the bourbon ice cream a nice treat. Overall a positive experience. If in the area would go back.
Make sure to make a reservation beforehand as this restaurant is very popular. Even with a reservation, be prepared to wait for 10 to 15 minutes. However, once you are seated, the service is fast and efficient. The food is also enjoyable. My wife had the Burrata, while I ordered the Smith Burger. The dessert we had, the Sticky Toffee, was quite good too
Incredibly busy and popular restaurant. Sitting outside is a delight, it's quite loud but thats NYC for ya. The Gnochhi is fantastic, lobster roll is not worth it, penne vodka is decent. Worth it if you want a late dinner that's reasonably priced. Service is a bit slow, took forever to get a 2nd drink, we had already finished eating. Plenty of sparkling water served though!
The food here is great & has a prime location! My family and I came here before going to the opera! There is a very lively energy in this place. It’s a very popular restaurant, very noisy and very crowded. Make reservations!
Ordered the burger with fries, medium cooked. The burger was very dry, but wasn’t very bad. Fries were good. Expected more from the burger due to its high price. Service was good. Received the food and drinks quickly. Got two bottles when sat down, still and sparkling water. Apple cake was very good. It’s a 4/4.5 mainly because of the expectations for the burger according to the prices. Place wasn’t crowded at all, arrived there at 3:45~ PM.
The Smith is an incredible loud restaurant. Having a converstion here is difficult. This was my second time there and this was a problem both times. Food is fine. Nothing fantastic, but certianly enjoyable. The prices are a little ambitious too. $240 for four for sandwiches and one drink per person.
Located on the Upper West Side, the Smith has solid food, service, and atmosphere. This restaurant has always been packed the number of times we've dined here. I've also ordered take out a bunch over the years, too. We love the burger! While I am not a fan of the owners of this establishment for other reasons, this is a solid restaurant.
This spot has plenty of seating options for everyone (indoors and outdoors). It’s the perfect place to grab a bite after strolling through Central Park. The staff here are super attentive, making sure you have everything you need for a fantastic meal. Sure, it can get pretty busy sometimes, but that just shows how popular it is! And let me tell you, everything on the menu is tasty, but the mac & cheese? Amazingly good! And don’t worry about bringing cash, they accept credit cards too. So next time you’re in the area, make sure to stop by and treat yourself to some delicious food!
We had a lovely experience at The Smith. We weren’t in time for breakfast, but we’re offered brunch instead. I was glad we got there when we did, because it became busy and crowded quickly. Like most restaurants in America, the food was overpriced for what it is. Although most of the food lacked flavour, the restaurant had a nice buzz about it. Something tasted wrong with the water on the table, it was either tap water or the cleaning fluid used to wash the bottles or glasses hadn’t rinsed properly. We stayed for puddings and we were not disappointed with it. The servers were friendly and attentive.
Wow, wow, wow. A friend steered us here for lunch. We had no idea what kind of restaurant it was, and though it looked nice, there was nothing indicating that the food would be great. Yet it was. The tomato soup was very good. The fried calamari was light and crispy, and the addition of sesame was a flash of genius. Really wonderful. The arrancini with truffle were absolutely the best we have ever had. Very large restaurant, nice ambiance, good service. Great for a wonderful lunch.
A welcoming atmosphere with excellent and courteous service. It offers options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just snacks and delicious drinks. The dishes are well-prepared and generously portioned. If you're going to New York, it's worth checking out.
Very busy spot. Food was good as was service. We had lunch/brunch. Was particularly interested in the jalapeño cheddar grits. They definitely had a hint of smoky pepper taste, but were a little gummy. Snap pea salad was very good and shrimp were cooked well. Burger was good and fries were nice and crispy. Overall a solid restaurant with a large menu. Will definitely return to try some more items.
Awesome place. Thank you to our waitress was so kind and efficient. the only thing i didn't like was the penne was too hard for my taste and the ink squid pasta was a little blend, but other than that we had a great experience and the other dishes were amazing. Also didn't get why they cut the shrimp into pieces for the ink squid pasta dish never seen such thing (:
A dependable Upper West Side classic. The menu is big, familiar, and well executed, everything we ordered was flavorful and satisfying, especially the comfort-food staples. Service was efficient and friendly, even with a busy room, and the atmosphere is lively without feeling overwhelming. Expect a long wait on weekends
Brisk and bustling location near Lincoln center and Columbus circle. Options to sit at bar, outside, front and back dining rooms. Expect a lot of children and noise. Food wise, typical bistro style food. The Smith steak had very tasty peppercorn sauce and spinach was not hammered. Portions on the small side but drinks are excellent. Reservation a must
We came here for brunch today. It wasn’t our first time dining here—we’ve had The Smith burger before, and since we were in the mood for a burger again, we decided to come back. We know the burger portions are huge, and it comes with either French fries or a salad. We usually go for the fries—they're perfectly crispy, and they give you a generous portion. The burger was delicious as always. We ordered the meat medium-rare, and it was just right—juicy and flavorful. My boyfriend found it a bit salty, but I actually like it that way, so I wasn’t disappointed. We skipped appetizers but couldn’t resist dessert. We originally wanted to get their s’mores in a jar, as usual, but unfortunately, it wasn’t on the menu today. Instead, we went with the buttermilk pancakes, which were absolutely delicious—fluffy and not overly sweet. The pecan maple butter was the perfect touch. If you ever see the s’mores on the menu, I’d highly recommend trying them! For drinks, we each had a beer with our burgers and coffee with pancakes—everything was satisfying. Service was good and fast; they brought out bottles of still and sparkling water right away. The ambiance is okay, but the only downside was the noise level. It was so loud that I could barely hear our waitress, and it was tough to have a conversation.
Looking for a standout in the Lincoln Center area? The Smith may just be the answer to your problem. We had a reservation for breakfast and I’m glad we did cause despite arriving at opening, seats began quickly getting filled here. The interior is great, a nod to old school New York. The outside, where we sat, was nice as well. They were very accommodating of our dog by bringing him a water bowl and the outdoor dining area is well staffed. The service is good too. We ordered pretty quick and the food also came out quick as well. Here’s how the food was: We started off with a mac and cheese, which may sound crazy but man was it the right decision. The mac and cheese was phenomenal, cheese dripping and noodles perfectly chewy. The top had that crust too, just great. We also ordered the french toast and it was good as well. The bread was thick and soft, the caramelized bananas were a bit sweet though so we ate it without to balance out the flavor. The Benedict Johnny was good, the cornbread sweet and savory. The chicken sausage was good and the poached egg added a good texture to things and a bit more flavor. We also grabbed a cappuccino that was frothy and well made. The food altogether was very good and we were happily surprised with the quality of everything. Even though it was on the pricier side of things, we would definitely come back if we’re ever in the area.
A place that falls below expectations for a stylish restaurant with branches. First of all, since it said “Big Salads” on the menu and the price was twice that of average salads, I expected it to be a big and satisfying salad, but the salad was not satisfying at all. While I was expecting the grilled chicken to be hot and juicy just taken off the grill, it was a big disappointment to see the portioned frozen chickens put in the microwave. A stylish venue and good service are not enough; they must offer quality plates that are worth the money.
A super-busy and buzzing restaurant but the staff were friendly and given how many of us they had to look after, very efficient and attentive. Food was straightforward and good quality. All in all a safe bet for dinner out.
Nice restaraunt. One issue is the door - was seated at a table right in front of the door and cold air filled the restaurant anytime it was opened. My meal became cold due to the constant rush of cold air, made dining unpleasant I had to keep my coat on.
We had a reservation, but were seated in a corner table near the restroom, which was a bit disappointing. We started with sparkling water and fries served with blue cheese as a starter. We ordered the avocado toast and the mussel pot, sharing all the dishes between the two of us. Unfortunately, the avocado toast was genuinely disappointing and lacked flavor. It felt like the dish could use more thought and refinement. On the other hand, the mussel pot was decent — glazed with white wine, herbs, and garlic butter, and enjoyable enough. The seating arrangement was another major drawback. The table felt too small for three items for two people, and the corner location seemed to trap noise. It was so loud that having a proper conversation with my wife was nearly impossible. While seating may vary, it was disappointing that there was no effort to address the situation. Overall, the experience felt uneven: a few decent dishes, but notable issues with food execution and seating comfort.
I wanted to bring up a concern from my recent visit to The Smith. I ordered the Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon listed on your menu at $165. The server explained there was a “year difference,” but what was actually brought was the Chappellet Mountain Cuvée — a completely different wine at a much lower tier and price point. I asked them to discount it at least but my server insisted the price was firm after asking the manager. A $40 bottle should have been $100-120 tops. I still left a nice cash tip to not embarrass the waitress more than necessary. I’m sure you understand how this feels misleading, especially at a premium price level. If the Signature was unavailable, transparency would have been appreciated so I could make an informed choice rather than being served a different product under the assumption it was equivalent.
[i went last year in 2024, but just posting this now] We chose outdoor seating on a drizzly summer night. The location was nice, there were still people walking around and cars driving by at 10pm on a Friday night. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing I would come back just for the pudding!! The peppers were too salty (and greasy) for me at times, it was a hit or miss. I didn't try the salmon, but my boyfriend said it was "not bad." Overall food was meh until we got to the pudding.
I go a lot against my will. It’s always bad. Service is always bad. Any seat my the door is freezing. The drinks are weak. I’m genuinely stressed every time I’m there The burgers are decent but not for their price point. The pasta is honestly the strong point for some reason
We were hungry and close to Broadway in New York, so after looking up places close by to eat we chose The Smith. At first it seemed great until the waiter coughed up an attitude after we said no to "drinks". He was rude to us, took forever to get our food and the tables that sat down minutes after us got their food first. Then the waiter ignored us so we had to flag down, I guess the manager, to get our check. I have been eating at restaurants for years and this was the worse experience my girlfriend and I ever had. The food was excellent though. We went in Dec 8th 2023
People must love this place, big as it is, because it was jammed. But with tile walls and hard floors the noise level obliterates any chance of reasonable conversation. So go off hours. Cheeseburger, one of key offers, was quite acceptable, but not exceptional. Fries were good. Salad was good, but also unexceptional. Worth the money? That might be a stretch. Service was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly. In that regard, place is well organized. The menu is short, which probably makes sense for an operation this big, but it does deter one from coming back. Sorry, but no a winner overall.
The venue itself is pleasant, and we ordered steak and pasta. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing. The steak was ordered well done but arrived overly cooked, almost burnt. Additionally, the waiter did not seem attentive and failed to listen carefully to our requests. During service, the waiter accidentally spilled wine from the glass. He acknowledged that it was his mistake and assured us that a replacement glass would be provided free of charge. However, after completing the payment, I noticed that this replacement glass had been added to the bill, at which point it was too late to address the issue. Furthermore, during the payment process, my credit card was handled carelessly and nearly damaged, which added to the discomfort of the experience. For these reasons, I would not recommend this restaurant to those who are looking to enjoy a well-prepared steak or a calm and pleasant dinner.
Updated (11/27/25): I was told to reach out to a Jennifer Woodhull about my experience and although she seemed to care and offered a gift card to make up for the bad experiences that’s been occurring at The Smith, it was all for show. It’s been over a week a no reply nor any gift card. Changed my review from a 2 to a 1 due to this disrespect and horrible customer service. I used to love this place and would come pretty often, but lately it’s just not the same. The food still tastes good, I’ll give them that, but everything else has taken a hit. Me and my fiancée ordered our usual: two Smith burgers and calamari. The calamari portion was super small, like an appetizer for one, which was disappointing. The burgers were flavorful like always, but the buns were dry and hard, definitely not fresh. It kind of killed the whole thing. What really did it for me, though, was the service. The staff came off kind of rude, and the manager was nowhere to be found when we needed help. He eventually came by and tried to assist, but by then we were already over it. We just wanted to leave. After years of being a loyal customer, I think this might be it for me. It sucks because this used to be my go-to spot. Now I guess I’m on the hunt for a new burger place.
I had tickets for the opera directly across the street from The Smith at 7:30pm, so I made dinner reservations for myself and my two kids at 6pm. When we arrived, the place was slammed with people waiting and as I checked in (on time) the hostess had us stand to the side. We stood there for 30 minutes (still can't believe I did that stupid shit), before I eventually left for having to rush to the nearest McDonald's to feed my children before the THREE hour opera they would've had to endure on an empty stomach in the likely event that we'd time out due to The Smith's mismanagement of my (and presumably others') reservation. For a restaurant that regularly gets "Met traffic", I would expect them to be more mindful of the patrons' schedules (and yes, I did mention to the hostess that we had to be across the street at 7:30) I'm never dining here again, ESPECIALLY if I have time constraints.
The worst experience ever ! The burger is the worst we have ever tasted.! The pork chop was ok and the tagliatelle was fine but not for the price! We asked to change tables 4 times because it was freezing and once I got up the manager heard me complain and with the worst service and attitude took us to another table.
TL:DR- The Smith has really gone downhill Perhaps they have been unable to handle the additional customers with the various Daniel Boulud restaurants around the corner closed for renovation but my last 3 trips to the Smith have featured low quality dishes, exceptionally high wait times for food, and poor customer service. On the last 2 occasions I did politely bring my concerns to the attention of management. The first time I dined for brunch- they previously had a delicious steak and eggs My dining companion and I both ordered our steaks medium rare. The steaks took a very very long time and arrived medium well- with the medium well toothpicks in them. Our server did not check on us for a while so they sat, though we were hungry, we requested medium rare as we had ordered, they obliged but the steaks we received another 25 min later clearly had not rested at all. It was not busy we were there for a late lunch you can see from my photos the room was half empty, ive been to the Smith for brunch fully packed and had a perfectly cooked steak many times A few weeks later my parents wanted to dine at the Smith for dinner. We were seated at the same time as a table behind us and the 3 tables around us were all seated 10-20 minutes after us. We did not order apps or drinks went straight to entrees. My parents split a burger and salad and I made the grave mistake of Ordering the Braised Short Rib Mafaldine. Our food took FOREVER. The table to the left of us received their appetizers, entrees, their bill and left before our waitress even came back to us. The table to the right had their drinks apps and steaks. Our waitress Madison checked in on every table but was avoiding our attempts to flag her down for an update. When we finally got her attention she said “oh I just checked with the kitchen a few minutes ago, your food is coming soon”- surely she could have checked in with us or at least offered us more bread? Another 15 min elapse and our food arrives. My parents enjoy their salad but their burger was cold. My braised short mafaldine has absolutely no meat. At first, my mom just assumed they brought the wrong dish and asked the expediter if he was sure that was the right dish. As our server Madison was of course no where, the expediter just took the plate and said he would check. He came back a few minutes later and said it was correct wheres the short rib? I poked around, no meat anywhere barely any sauce, no meat in the sauce, no meat period. Tried to flag down madison in vein. My parents werent happy with their meals and we decided we just wanted to pay and leave. We finally got madison’s attention and explained we were dissatisfied with the service and had not had this experience the past 30+’times dining here. She offered us a complimentary dessert which we declined and we asked for the bill. The Manager arrived with the bill- and honestly we all would have been content with a “I heard you didnt have a great experience tonight, I hope we can welcome you back in the future” Instead it was a rapid fire storm of excuses-the other tables around us weren’t all Madison’s tables- with all due respect, my mom and I together have several years of waitressing experience who the server is shouldnt impact not receiving your food. Then manager says those tables just ordered salads- categorically false- and my parents also ordered a salad? The cherry on top- he blamed the customer fot the short rib malfadine- he said first the kitchen prepared it with short rib chunks and “people complained” so they switched to ground short rib, “then people complained about that” so he assertted that the bowl I was served was a combo of ground short rib and short rib chunks and they added extra chunks for me at my request……
