Came here for a date night. Had been seeing their birria tacos on Instagram. Did not disappoint. We got the cemitas with spicy pork and the birria tacos, and also a pitcher of the mango tajin margaritas. Absolutely delicious. Was so full by the end of the meal. Also staff is really nice. The ambience was also really cute and decorated for Halloween. Definitely coming back
What a fantastic little restaurant. I found this place from a YouTube commercial, and it was excellent. The margarita was delicious, but that Al Pastor was on point. So juicy.
Ollin was absolutely amazing and easily one of the best Mexican meals we’ve had in a long time. It truly reminded us of the traditional Mexican food we used to get when we lived in California: flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care. We started with the chips and guacamole, which you could immediately tell were made in house. Fresh, well-seasoned, and not generic at all. The horchata was also excellent, not watered down, creamy, and clearly homemade. For mains, we had the birria tacos with consomé, which were incredible. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, especially dipped into the consomé. We also ordered the Cubana cemita, which was huge and packed with flavor, easily shareable and extremely satisfying. We ended with a chocolate chip cookie, and somehow it was just as impressive as everything else. Honestly one of the best cookies we’ve had in a while. Overall, everything was outstanding. Amazing food, generous portions, and authentic flavors. We would 100% come back and highly recommend Ollin.
I hate speaking in hyperbole, but the best Mexican food I have had in New York City comes from Ollin. They’re located in East Harlem, so it was a bit of a trek from the Mexican food desert that is lower Manhattan, but beyond worth it. It’s a no frills, family run restaurant that serves up homemade Puebla style Mexican food. Right when we walked into this authentic ambiance, I knew we were in good hands. We went with their signature cemita, birria tacos, chilaquiles, empanadas, churros, and carrot cake. The Cemita is stuffed with spicy pork, black beans, lettuce, onion, tomato, avocado, Oaxaca Cheese, mayo, and chipotle sauce slammed together between a sesame bun. It was a work of art and a high level sandwich, but wasn’t our favorite thing we got. These Birria Tacos belong in a museum, and are head and shoulders the best tacos I’ve had in the city. They reminded me of the ones my granny used to make for us growing up, especially with the crispy fried shell. A blast of favor on every bite, and they actually tasted better than they look. The sleeper of the meal was the Chilaquiles, as they are homemade tortilla chips simmered in a spicy green salsa. They were perfect. If you take nothing else from this review, please don't skip the dessert. We had to rip the homemade churros and carrot cake. I’m running out of adjectives here, but these were up there with any dessert I’ve had this year. The decadent cake was moist and dense, and I could have eaten a whole tub of that icing. Truly a big back meal, but the soul needs that every now and then. “Ollin” is the Aztec word for movement, which is fitting because they have so much motion in here. The food was great. After 15 years of not coming here the food is still amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMED CHURROS FOR DESERT ARE AMAZINGGG! Great drinks. Calm place for a lowkey date night!
kevin has always been the best!! he has such an amazing playlist and always give out the best vibes! he makes it such a fun/safe space and i have a good time every time i come through. i love it!! such great food, drinks, and energy. makes me feel comfortable every time.
This place is my absolute favorite !!!! I come here often & order the birria tacos w consommé but I came for my birthday in august & was greeted & served by Keveen ! Keveen made my experience so amazing !!! I left very happy ! The food is 10/10 absolutely delicious ! , the drinks are amazing , the atmosphere & music is bound to put you in a good mood & have you singing & dancing . I will come here forever . Thank you !!!!
Ollin was a small but amazing spot. They have outdoor seating, but my friends and I decided to sit inside because there wouldn't be enough room for us outside. The inside of Ollin was very nicely decorated but was a little loud with the music they were playing. Not a big issue because they lowered it when we told them it was too loud. Now on to the food, I had the esquites to start and they were good, not the best but not the worst I have had. I followed this up with a pineapple margarita and a arepa hawaiina. Let me be clear the margaritas here will have you twisted quick if you aren't careful! They were a lot stronger than I thought they would be, which was great! My arepa was filling and tasty, and I would recommend it. For dessert, I ordered their chocolate chip cookie and was given the story of how most of their baked good are baked in-house by one of the family. Let me tell you the cookie was good. It had a slight cinnamon taste and a decent amount of chocolate chips. It was warm and gooey. So if you are in the area, definitely give Ollin a try, I promise you won't regret it!
Ollin is the place to go if you’re missing real Mexican food. Service was great, the waitress was the best, she took her time to explain to me the menu. The only thing I didn’t like was that on the TV you had mexican music and at the same time you could hear the loud music in the kitchen, so it was too loud. Next time I go back, I’ll get their famous pastel de tres leches
One of the best hidden gems in East Harlem! Olin gave us a warm welcome and experience. The happy hour margs are a 10/10 and you can’t go wrong with the Birria Tacos. Get the goat meat though, it’s takes it to a different level 😋 Follow @Butteronaroll_ on IG & TT for more NYC restaurant reviews 💛🧈
This place is so cute! I’ve dined here multiple times now and am happy with the service so far. I’ve had the tacos, chilaquiles, tortas and, cemitas(which frankly are my favorite so far). The margaritas are pretty good so I try to order one whenever I go. During my latest visit, we ordered coffee and the set up was everything. They host different events for several holidays so I suggest following them on IG to stay in the loop. Definitely recommend giving them a go.
At first it looks like any other Mexican restaurant. Once you walk in you get a different vibe , what this restaurant lacks in size its makes it up with its amazing food , we order a chorizo total and Birria tacos and they were amazing . Try the tamarindo margarita and it wasn't for me , the lady was kind enough to change it for a mango one which was strong but delicious. Service was amazing. They were busy but they were very attentive . We had to try the churros for dessert and usually the sugar be too much but this time it was a great experience, the side lechera(cream) is always delicious. I will definitely go back if were ever in the mood for some authentic Mexican food
Nice hidden spot here in Spanish harlem near the river. Food was nicely consistent, it did it's best to remain loyal to it's Mexican roots . Very satisfied with their Sopes , nicely crispy and chicken well cooked and seasoned with fresh avocado and garnishes. Looking forward for my next visit soon with another food item. UPDATE ( 10/04/2020) my second visit with my family, this time I went in big , and I mean big , we started off with nice fresh chips and guacamole , veery tasty and went on with the big meal : a Cemita which is a traditional Mexican sandwich from Puebla which is my hometown , I’d recommend this only if you’re starving, not hungry but STARVING because the cemita is BIG. Also they had fresh made horchata in a bottle as their own brand and my goodness , the sweetness was right on the spot , y’all need to try it. The mango sangria was very tasty and very easy to take in : well balanced in alcohol and the taste of mango with the fresh bits of real mango . My experience here was awesome and I’d recommend this joint to anyone if yous want a close experience to the traditional Mexican culinary experience. You will not be disappointed at all
Are you hungry and in the mood for tacos 😋 we'll get going to this magical place . The food is amazing I had some tacos de cáritas and it hit the the right spot . They where so good I order a semita de milanesa to go . Definitely would recommend this restaurant ,it make you feel like home . So stop reading and go get some delicious food
Food was okay, was expecting it to be better after all the photos and videos they promote. Service could have been better, the servers were busy taking care of customers that came for the painting activities, to even check up on the table. Asked them for a couple of things and they would forget. Definitely could have been better overall.
Seriously disappointed by the quality of the food. Filling of the tacos was sad, bland, and minuscule compared to the tortilla, ended up very dry. Sad portions of crema for the quesadillas, also felt like a quesadilla you could half ass at home. No salsa given at all unlike most Mexican restaurants that give you a red and green sauce standard. Elote was bland and just boiled corn, not grilled at all. Unfortunate since it’s so cute in the actual restaurant.
Finally came here after months of saying I’ll stop by after seeing the place on TikTok. Our waiter was good very attentive and kind. I love supporting small businesses but unfortunately a lot of other things didn’t meet our standards. There were not many food options. I ordered chilaquiles and it came out looking like a soup with all the sauce it came with. Luckily my boyfriend liked his food he ordered a cubano. Also the music in the kitchen was loud it was like listening to two songs at the same time. Might as well just sync the playlist 🥲 also parking is horrible around this area. Definitely won’t be coming back.
