We had an amazing dinner at this Italian restaurant in New York! Every single dish was delicious from start to finish. The appetizers alone were unforgettable. The mussels in white sauce were absolutely divine, and the broth was so flavorful it was honestly the kind of sauce you want to sip with a spoon (we saved some to dip our bread 🫣). The fried mozzarella was also a standout with the best cheese pull, perfectly crispy on the outside and gooey inside. Everything that followed was just as delicious. The spaghetti and meatballs was classic and comforting, the chicken parm was perfectly crispy and cheesy, and the frutti de mare was packed with fresh seafood and flavor. The black linguini seafood pasta was absolutely a standout, so rich and beautifully prepared. On top of the food, the service made the night even better thanks to our server, Kevin. Lu, the manager, was truly wonderful and so accommodating, especially with a last minute visit on a very busy Valentine’s Day dinner night. She made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an unforgettable Italian meal in NYC! 🍷🇮🇹🍝✨
Celebrated Valentine’s day here with my partner and we had such a nice experience. Service was great and the ambiance was perfect for a date night or just a nice dinner! Highly recommend the meatballs, they are to die for. The tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had. Seating was close as it is not a large space, but it did not cause problems and it wasn’t hard to hear or have a conversation. Highly recommend!
We had a great experience here. The chicken parm was outstanding. The service was top shelf. I had a special request with my drink and our server accommodated perfectly. Very impressive. Will definitely be back.
Took my partner here for Valentine's Day, the team here did a wonderful job of setting an appropriate dining environment. The lighting was intimate, and even though we sat close to other patrons, they weren't so close that we could hear their conversations. We were able to hear each other just fine though. The staff were very intuitive and run a very tight ship. The meatballs are a must for a starter, and use pecorino as part of the blend. Very tender with a flavorful sauce! Our rotini and linguini were very tasty, and our portions were enough that we still had room for dessert. The tiramisu is a MUST! Definitely coming back for a special occasion.
I’m from NY but now live out of town. Whenever I’m back I make sure to visit since I think this is the best neighborhood Italian on the UWS. It’s a warm and cozy place, with gracious and hospitable owners who are truly hosts. The food has always been consistently excellent. I’ve never had anything but a great meal. They have a small and inviting bar if you prefer to dine there instead of a table. It’s part of what makes it an UWS “local”.
The best italian food! Each dish was fresh and cooked perfectly. My family enjoyed every single bite. We will definitely be back!
As noted by others, underrated -- food was really good and the service even better. The owner is generally around, which helps create a staff that seems happy and attentive. The food is rarely anything less than excellent although the desserts are not their strong suit. A neighborhood favorite and a place I will return to again (and again).
I order from here LITERALLY once a week. The mozzarella sticks are THE best I've ever had. They are not your average mozz sticks. I either always get the pesto or carbonara, you cannot go wrong with either. this place ROCKS
On a recent 3 night stay in NYC with best friends/ family to celebrate my 60th birthday. We happened upon this charming Italian restaurant with the best meatballs ever !! The staff and ambiance was so warm & inviting that we went back a 2nd night and enjoyed the most delicious handmade pasta . 5 stars again & again . Ciao
We stopped in and sat at the bar. The bartender was so friendly. We had the best meatballs I ever had and stayed for a good amount of time. The owner came and talked to us for awhile. We loved it so much that we came back the next evening and had an awesome dinner.
Absolutely the best Italian food I have ever had in my life! I will never look at Italian cuisine the same way again. Their meatballs were unbelievably delicious the meat literally melted in my mouth. The pasta is all homemade, and you can taste the love in every bite; it was so soft and fresh that it practically melted as well. And the tiramisu? Amazing. Truly the perfect finish to an incredible meal. On top of the phenomenal food, the service was outstanding. They treated us so well and even sang happy birthday to me, which made the night extra special. I 100% recommend this place to everyone. If you're looking for authentic, unforgettable Italian food, this is it!
Found Polpette on a list of the best meatballs in NYC. They definitely are! Seriously these are some of my favorite meatballs of all time! I come all the way from Riverdale for these meatballs. On top of that, the service is great, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. So glad I found this place!
I have eaten at Polpette 71 two times in the summer and fall. All the food was delicious with a large menu of varied dishes at this family run restaurant. The service is attentive without interfering. There is an intimate feel. I will be going back again and again.
Excellent food, drinks, and service at Polpette 71! Lu and the staff went above and beyond for my niece's bridal luncheon. You gotta have the meatballs, but all our meals were also delicious. Perfect atmosphere and friendly service.
A wonderful family-owned neighborhood place but also very welcoming to visitors. Famous for their meatballs but with quality items up and down the menu and highlighted in specials. Features seating in (back) garden and on front but reliably charming also inside. Highly recommend
This upper west side Italian restaurant is a real gem. It has friendly owners that are more than willing to guide you through their menu. They restaurant is known for their meatballs but it has so much more to offer. I did start with meatballs with marinara sauce. I was really impressed with the meatballs and the accompanying marinara sauce. It was so flavorful, a great start to the meal. I next had the rigatoni alla vodka which really surprised me. The vodka sauce was as good a sauce as I've ever had. No meal with me is complete without dessert which was a home run. The homemade tiramisu was a smooth and creamy delicious experience. Please make sure to try the focaccia bread and a glass of the chianti. The restaurant does have outdoor seating.
Had a great late lunch after visiting the natural history museum. We had been looking for somewhere that did great meatballs and we weren't disappointed. 2 adults and kids very happy with food, the lady owner who served us was lovely and recommended what to get and even divided food up so we could try spaghetti and sandwiches. Would definitely recommend to get away from touristy spots, one of our food highlights of the trip
This restaurant is truly a gem in Manhattan's Upper West Side! My sister and I had a wonderfully delightful dining experience here last week. Many thanks to the staff for their exceptional care and first-class service throughout our meal. Their handmade pasta is absolutely a must-try! If you enjoy delicious Italian cuisine and a warm, charming dining atmosphere, you definitely shouldn’t miss this place!
Stellar service, a delightful dining experience! There were 11 of us and as you might imagine we sampled quite a few dishes and all were excellent. I highly recommend any of the homemade pastas!! My personal favorites was the squid ink pasta with calamari. The tricolor salad was delicious as well. Great meatballs as an appetizer.
Visiting from Canada staying at Hotel Beacon, this restaurant was a short walk from our hotel. We were looking for a nice sit down NYC experience and this cozy little Italian restaurant delivered. Truly a 5 star experience. We started with the famous saucy meatballs, shared the fettuccine carbonara and finished with salted caramel gelato. Everything was so fresh and delicious, seasoned and made to perfection, and the service was top notch. The atmosphere was cozy but lively. If we get back to this part of NYC in the future we’d definitely return.
Italian restaurant located close to Central Park. We've been there to have lunch on a Saturday, and the place was not crowded - what was a relief. We've been quickly seated on a lovely table outside. Everything was great, really no complaints. We've had the limoncello and meatballs to start, and then the Pollo Parmigiana and the Fettuccine Carbonara - all great. The manager was lovely with us the whole time.
My daughter lives around the corner, and insisted we come here. I'm so glad we did - cute, authentic, hole-in-the-wall, New York City, Italian restaurant realness! Outstanding service. Wonderful ambiance. DELECTABLE, DELICIOUS, AUTHENTIC Italian food. Reasonable (for New York) prices. Highly recommended. Pictured - gnocchi, and highly recommended meatballs.
i came here without knowing that they were famous for their meatballs. i ordered their spaghetti and meatballs by recommendation of the waiter. the dish was extremely fulfilling and satisfied my pasta cravings. the meatballs have a strong beef flavor with notes of a nutty, pistachio flavor. the pasta had a fantastic homemade, al dente texture, cooked to perfection. the sauce was pretty standard but coupled well with the meatballs. all in all i’d recommend giving them a try.
It was empty... for a reason. Completely dark, the place was really not welcoming but we got in because of the gluten-free pasta option (nice!). But once in we directly regretted it. We experienced a super rude service (sorry we want to eat in your restaurant with two kids) rushing us to order. Food was ok but somehow, 2 out of 5 people felt sick after... coincidence? Who knows! The cherry on top: mandatory 20% tip! The audacity!!!!
If you would like to be treated like trash and yelled at to sit wherever in a half filled restaurant for kindly waiting for someone to seat us, this is your place. The manager/owner looking lady needs to touch some grass and learn how to run a business. Your food is too mediocre in a neighborhood with a sea of competitor Italian restaurants for you to treat people like they are below you. Get a grip.
I like this restaurant. Friendly neighborhood restaurant. I did take out tonight, chicken Parmesan. It was more than disappointed. It was a bit shocking actually. it was deeply fried and some of the parts that were much thicker than the rest of the cutlet kind of brown burned just slightly.. and if there was mozzarella cheese on top, I didn’t see it. instead of a marinara sauce, it looked and tasted more like an orange ala vodka sauce. Am I to assume from this that if you do takeout it’s cooked or treated differently then if I was eating in? I don’t know but all in all I forced myself to eat some it really it was tasteless. I didn’t see the point to it so I threw it in the garbage. I will repeat that I do like this place this friendly atmosphere and I recommended to people all the time. But well going something in the mail. You just paid for kind of disappointing. That’s all pay more attention to take out. It should be as good as taken.
