I’ve been craving a danish hotdog for ages and I’m so happy to have found this place! It is very cozy inside and the server was very friendly. I’m visiting from out of state and am so sad we don’t have a place like this back home. If you’re craving some Scandinavian comfort food then this is your spot :)
Me and my friend always come here every start of the semester to celebrate. the food always hits every time and the service is great. Small place but feels very homey and cute ! our go-to is always the sweet potato fries. The hotdogs and their soups are good too. everything here is good lol
Awesome spot with great vibes. I don't even have to say this, but get the potatoes. You won't be sorry. My girlfriend and I come here a lot, and she brought her stepmom once too. I brought my mom and she loved it. My girlfriend's sister likes it as does my sister. My girlfriend brought her eldest brother. I don't have a brother. If I did, I'd bring him.
Highly recommended, very cozy delicious Danish food. I loved the Salmon and potatoes dish we also had the fries and fish. Super friendly staff especially Eva very friendly and she recommended the drinks and helped us pick the food. We also got the Cinnamon bun so yummy. The place is small, quiet, lovely environment.
Tiny place with some indoor and outdoor seating, incredible array of Swedish seafood focused comfort food, and lovely spritzes/drink menu (including 5-7pm happy hour all days of the week). Great for a casual dinner! Highly recommend the smoked trout buckwheat cold noodles entree, the leafy greens salad app - and the dessert crepe pancakes as a table shared dessert.
Lovely little spot with a calm, welcoming vibe. Warm wood interiors and soft lighting make it feel cosy without trying too hard. Great for a quiet breakfast or just lingering with a coffee. The avocado toast is fresh and well-balanced, and the salmon one is a proper highlight – full of flavour, nothing overpowering. Coffee’s solid too. Staff are genuinely friendly. Feels like the kind of place locals return to.
Imagine a Scandinavian tapas restaurant in the heart of the East Village - that’s Smør. The plates are well portioned and 100% worth sharing with friends. The food was incredible and the drinks were refreshing and unique. My favorite entrees were the brisket sandwich and the fish and chips. (That curry sauce is INCREDIBLE!) I can’t wait to visit again
i thought i wasn’t going to be full after one sandwich so we ordered the soup to share and bro 😭😭 the portions are really well sized and i was super full after like half the sandwich… i got the veggie sandwich w smoked salmon and my friend got the farro, we both enjoyed it sm. i loved how there were hearty amounts of avocado given as restaurant usually skimp on it 💔 waitress was super kind and also like drop dead gorgeous lol and the place was so nice save for a few pesky flies which was understandable bc the door was open, and one tiny cockroach on the ledge by the wall but like don’t let that deter you from coming here bc the food is buss 🙏🙏 edit: came back for the dinner menu and i ordered the salmon and also the sourdough with sardines. the salmon was pretty good and the green cream on the side was pretty refreshing but the peas i didn’t really get why it tasted like that 😭 but my friend finished them. potatoes were perfectly crispy on outside and fluffy on inside! and i’m ngl i kinda gaslit myself into liking the sourdough and sardines bc lowkey idk how i paid $14 for that plate 😭🙏 anyways it was still good and i enjoyed the food 😊
Delicious! Eggs & Co. is a classic brunch spot, and personally, I think it’s even better than avocado toast. Each dish comes in generous portions, making it an excellent choice for a hearty meal. The space is small, but on nice days, you can sit outside and enjoy the warm midday sun. If you’re going on the weekend, it’s best to make a reservation in advance, as it tends to get very busy around noon. Highly recommended!
One word to describe the food: delicious! The Hangover sandwich and fries were superb. The Danish Pancakes were amazing. Both of these dishes were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The soup was thick, more like a bisque, and tasted what you’d expect for a sweet potato soap. The ambience was a beautiful blend of classic, minimalism and chic. The space inside was quaint, and felt more appropriate for couples or a small group of friends. The service was friendly and responsive. It seemed like repeat customers were common as the server greeted folks by name. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a tasty, aesthetic, place to dine in Alphabet City/Lower Eastside area. We’d definitely go back!!
Visited for lunch, the herring open face sandwiches were great! Really well-made and flavorful. Their curry herring was my favorite! It’s a very small restaurant and it looks like they get super crowded during peak times. Highly suggest a reservation if you’re visiting on the weekends.
We made a reservation and visited Smor in the East Village for a Sunday brunch. Our absolute favorite was the avocado toast with sunny-side eggs, easily one of the best I’ve had in NYC. The bacon and egg sandwich came in as a close second, delicious and fresh. The salmon toast with dill was good, though I think it could be improved with a different choice of bread. Their pancakes resembled crepes but were quite tasty. An interesting quirk is that you can’t order lattes there; you have to head to their neighboring bake shop for coffee. Despite that, we’ll definitely be returning for another visit.
I recently visited Smør, and it delivered a refined yet approachable take on Scandinavian-inspired café dining in Manhattan’s East Village. The café has a bright and welcoming atmosphere, with a clean and minimalist design that reflects the Nordic aesthetic often associated with Scandinavian food culture. The space feels relaxed and comfortable, making it a pleasant spot for breakfast, brunch, or a light lunch. The menu highlights Nordic-style open-faced sandwiches, known as smørrebrød, which are a central element of Danish cuisine. These dishes are built on dense rye bread and layered with thoughtfully selected ingredients such as smoked fish, cured meats, eggs, and fresh herbs. The sandwiches were visually appealing and demonstrated careful balance between textures and flavors. The rye bread provided a hearty base while the toppings added freshness and depth. Another strength of the café is its emphasis on quality ingredients. Scandinavian cuisine often focuses on simplicity and allowing individual components to stand out. The ingredients used in the dishes felt fresh and carefully chosen, with flavors that remained clean and well balanced. Items such as pickled vegetables, herbs, and creamy spreads helped add brightness and contrast to the richer toppings. The café also offers a strong coffee program and lighter breakfast options that complement the food menu well. Scandinavian café culture often emphasizes good coffee alongside simple but well-executed food, and Smør captures that tradition effectively. The combination of well-prepared dishes and quality coffee makes it an appealing place to spend a relaxed morning. Service during the visit was friendly and efficient. Staff members maintained a welcoming attitude and helped guide customers through the menu when needed. The pace of service matched the casual café setting, allowing guests to enjoy their meal without feeling rushed. The overall atmosphere contributes strongly to the experience. Smør manages to bring Scandinavian café culture into the East Village while maintaining a neighborhood feel that fits naturally within the area’s dining scene. Overall, Smør offers a thoughtful and well-executed Scandinavian café experience with fresh ingredients, balanced flavors, and a welcoming environment. It stands out as a unique destination for Nordic-style dishes in New York City.
Cute little brunch spot. Always POPPING. Dare I say I like the bakery better? And I’m not the biggest fan of their brioche bun - so dry! I had the hangover brisket sandwich. It was good. But the bread! I was just not all that into the bread. I also ordered the fries with the aioli. They were alright. I wanted to get hot sauce or salt or something to give them a little boost, but our server was hard to pin down. Basically, it’s a vibe, but I’ve been underwhelmed by the food (it looks better than it is in my experience at both the restaurant and bakery)
A cute, chic Scandinavian spot with that cool, young vibe you’d expect in the East Village. The pumpkin soup was delicious, and both main dishes we tried were nice though they ended up being very similar, which we only realized after sharing. Prices are on the expensive side for what feels like simple fare, but our server was friendly and impressively patient especially considering he was handling the whole place on his own. Overall, glad we tried it once but probably a one time visit for us.
August 29, 2024. When a group of friends planned to go to this place for dinner, I tagged along as this was a Danish restaurant, and I hadn't been to one before. The vegetarian options were very few, and my friends said the Danish cuisine is predominantly meat. The waiter was friendly, and said he could prepare some vegetarian dishes from the lunch menu. I got the `sweet potato and leek soup' and the `veggie sandwich'. The soup was warm and good, the sandwich was a mix of so many ingredients, both inside the sandwich and outside it---a mixed salad that also had bread, let's say. The sandwich was nice, but my friends said this isn't authentic Danish, though I guess no vegetarian food will qualify as authentic Danish. We ordered both the desserts on the menu. First, Danish pancakes that all of us liked, and the jam on top was good. Second, a cake that had slightly fewer takers but it was good, too.
Smør has been on my to-go list forever now but it was quite a let down? I ordered the smoked salmon plate — the portion was small, the bread dry and hard, and the avocado was not ripe at all. The server did little to help which made the atmosphere even less inviting. Definitely lacking in that Scandanavian warmth and food quality despite claiming to provide it.
The hot dog was okay overall, and the staff was friendly. However, the sausage was very small and quite thin, which was a bit disappointing. They also added too much Remoulade sauce, in my opinion.
Smor the restaurant was alright, nothing too spectacular, but also not terrible. I got the everything salad, and it was alright. The everything salad had avocado, salmon, lettuce, bread, and egg. Nothing really stood out about the salad, and it didn’t have too much flavor to it, or a unique taste to it. It was a regular salad, just ok. The space was pretty small, but had a modern Nordic ambience to it. It’s best to RSVP before hand, because it can get crowded and busy at night. The service was alright, nothing extraordinary or terrible. The food came out pretty quickly and the price was alright/average. I prefer SMOR the bakery, a bit more, since it had more variety on the items that it served or had. Price:$20💸 Rating: 6.5-7/10📝
interior is nice, ordered eggs & a salad eggs were nice but salad was drowning in dressing and very soggy. it was very unpleasant and i didn’t eat it. servers didn’t offer to not charge for salad or swap it for anything else. they didn’t ask if everything was ok with food etc. left disappointed. payed like $21 for scrambled eggs hahaha
We came this morning for breakfast at Smør without a reservation and were placed on the waitlist. The female worker told us it would be about 20 minutes, possibly 30 just in case. That was completely fine — we were happy to wait because we really wanted to try the food. After waiting 40 minutes with no text or update, we went to ask what was happening. A male employee then told us we would need to wait another 20-ish minutes because they “don’t control how long people stay.” Meanwhile, we could clearly see that the entire seating had already turned over. It was obvious that we had simply been forgotten. We never received any text saying our table was ready. There was no apology, just excuses. This is unacceptable for any restaurant. Mistakes happen, but ignoring guests and then refusing to take responsibility is not okay. Very disappointing experience.
I have no idea how this place is still open — stepping inside makes you want to pour a whole bottle of sanitizer over yourself. It feels like the place has never been cleaned, and their bathroom is a special kind of hell — the sink is completely clogged. The only decent thing on the menu is the pancakes; everything else is inedible. The only thing that somewhat redeems the whole experience is the waiter — he’s actually nice.
