I really liked this restaurant, located right in the beautiful center of Newburyport. It was bigger inside than I expected, has the second floor, it also offers open air sittings on the street level and on the second floor patio, all very spacious and comfortable. The food was just great! Everything we tried was very delicious! 👍 We tried brushetta, lamb lollipops, sushi, salmon with rice, short ribs, tacos, chicken with pasta. Children menu was great, too - burger with french fries was really good! Special thank you to our amazing waitress Olivia!! She provided absolutely BEST service possible and made our evening even more special. Super professional and super nice, she served our group of 12 people effortlessly, while taking care of other tables and guests! The restaurant is really lucky to have her! There is tons of parking in the center - a couple of large parking lots and in the garage across the street. Parking is $1 per hour. I would absolutely be back! Highly recommended! 👍👍👏👏

Lots of clearly labeled gluten free options! Also very smart defaults like only having gluten free soy sauce. All the breaded seafood can be done gluten free. Food came out fast and the staff was really nice.

I've been to the Black Cow several times now and always love it! The Lamb Lollipops and Crab Cakes are my favorite appetizers! For drinks, I'm a huge fan of the Long Island Ice Coffee and highly recommend it. The sushi is always delicious, fresh and presented beautifully! Definitely worth a trip, but I'd recommend reserving a table as it can get busy.

We had the Bang Bang Shrimp, which was the best. The Lamb lollipopswe had were smoky and a bit hard to chew. Our vegetarian friend got vegetable angolotti which was really good. The Virgin Ube Colada is a sort of knock off Pina Colada with Ube in it, which was surprisingly good.

Great sushi, I got the Red Socks Roll. Good service, beautiful outdoor deck seating, nice and quiet

This beautiful little spot in Newburyport should be on your list. Its just outside of all the bussel of the shops and other restaurants. You have an option to sit on the deck or inside. The inside has a great ambience and our first impressions were good. We tried two apps, calamari and Thai Chilli wings. I can't say enough, both were delicious. We decided to try sushi after, a little expensive, but tasted great. We'll be back again.

We enjoyed our lunch at Black Cow. The escargot, lamb lollipops, and strawberry salad were all delicious, and the service was gracious.

A modern, hip, restaurant with delicious food! We had the Spinach & Beet salad and the "Cow Burger". Portions were generous and flavors delicious. It was crisp, fresh and tasty with an abundance of beets, butternut squash and goat cheese. The buger was cooked to perfection and truely delicious -- however, my single criticism about the burger was that it was so tall it was nearly impossible to eat with any semblance of dignity. The French fries (something I typically shy away from) were outstanding. Crispy and thin outside with pillowy soft interior in a pleasant curved slab shape. Our waitress was nice, not exceptional, but fine overall. The prices were quite high however for what you got. The venue is somewhat dark, but the ambiance was great none the less. I would definitely go again, perhaps when it's warm.

Very nice spot right in the heart of Newburyport, a few yards away from the water and the boardwalk. Service was impeccable. Food and drinks were great. The food is really fresh and tasty. Parking is $1 an hour or if you walk to Green street you can park for free for up to two hours(heavily enforced).

Best burger and wings ive ever had! The amazing above and beyond service that our server (Mackenzie) provided, along with the great food and ambiance made for a restaurant experience that i wont forget! The portions are Royal and the quality is honestly among the best ive come across in my life! I would gladly come again! ♥️

Such a great location, love the rooftop bar area. Service is excellent, food delicious and so many beer, wine, drink options. Their escargot is amazing! Great meatballs served with mozzarella, pesto, parmesan is a beautiful and very tasty dish. Their maple-walnut vinaigrette is one of the best salad dressings I've ever had!

Amazing birthday dinner!! That was our 2nd visit and it was better than last time. The steaks tenderloin were cooked to perfection. The dirty martini 🍸 was served with a small amount of ice crumble making the drink to die for. Highly recommended!!

Six of us had lunch here. Food was delicious! Our waitress was great! It was easy to talk and hear each other. Will definitely go back.

We had an excellent lunch yesterday. I got the baked haddock was outstanding in a good sized portion. My wife got the salmon which was also excellent. I'm only giving 4 stars for atmosphere. Because the flies we're driving us crazy other than that, lunch was excellent. I would highly recommend this place. Get some fly traps...lol

We had delicious seafood, fresh and tasty! Wait staff were very attentive! Sushi was also delicious! The atmosphere is really cool and fun!

Stephanie, our waitress was awesome! The food! We had Spanish Octopus for shareable. So good! And we had the specials, which was elk, came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Best game meat we ever tasted! Even the potatoes were amazing. Everything was perfect! We had a great dinner date. Definitely would go back. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. The food is so good. I had filet mignon, my husband had the baked haddock. Both came out hot and cooked to perfection. Our waitress Linda was amazing, she was bubbly attentive and just made us feel at home. I like to give my compliments when I can as I see a lot of negative on sites and makes me a bit upset. This is my go to restaurant now when I’m back in town.

We had a scrumptious meal. Our waitress Gina (I think) was VERY knowledgeable about the menu and helped me choose my meal working around my food allergies. She was also VERY knowledgeable about the cocktails and specific brand names of the liquors. I had the Lamb lollipops and a great martini.

Place was awesome! Very welcoming hostess when you walk in and great environment. We ate outside on the balcony upstairs, great views. Our server (I believe Meredith) came over in a timely manner and was also welcoming and polite. Gave us menus and took our drink order right away. My wife and I ended up getting, bang bang shrimp, the lamb lollipops, black cow sushi, and the Korean cauliflower for appetizers. All of it was delicious and fresh. For the entree we split the black cow burger and it was cooked to perfection (we got medium) for us. Great experience, super friendly staff, amazing food, and beautiful view. Highly recommend

We came for lunch on a beautiful October day and sat on their street side patio. The server was attentive and friendly. We started with a crab and artichoke dip ($20) which was creamy and delicious. I’m not really an artichoke person, but I enjoyed this preparation. I also had a half beet salad ($10) and a chimichurri chicken sandwich ($20). The beet salad had four slices of beets in it, so it really should have been called an arugula salad. Also, I’m not sure where the chimichurri was on the chicken. It was covered in sort of a chipotle sauce, still good, but not what I was expecting We had a good meal and would return.

Went for dinner and enjoyed our meal. Decided to go back for lunch and the sushi was great. As well as plenty of gluten free options.

Just a short 50-minute drive away, Newburyport is our favorite spot for a weekend getaway. After a relaxing walk by the riverside, we love how easy it is to access Black Cow from the main parking lot. We’ve enjoyed dinner here many times, and this Sunday night was no exception. The atmosphere in the main dining area was perfect, blending views of the sunset and street lights. The staff is always friendly and eager to help. The food never disappoints, with our go-to favorites being the signature burger, poke salad bowl, and sushi rolls.

Extremely pricey for food that should be charged about 20% less. It was very good but, I could not help but think of the price tag and the fact that I did not absolutely love it. The best part was the Calamari. I think it was the freshest calamari that I have ever had. It was so absolutely tender, you could not believe! Made me give this place another star instead of only 3. The atmosphere really sells this place. Save your money on sushi and go to a Japanese restaurant.

Food was excellent. Loved the walnut salad and the baked haddock. The rice pilaf was slightly undercooked, but my overall experience was great. Restaurant atmosphere was nice as well.

I really enjoyed my lunch at the Black Cow. The atmosphere is trendy and airy - you have a wall of glass on 2 sides to give a lot of light to the space. The only downside is it looks at a parking lot. The other side of the restaurant was a bit more brick exposed and dim but also very elevated. We came for Sunday lunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. Staff was fine and we would def go back again!

It was good unfortunately they got rid of the escargot which was something I always went there for, unfortunately I'll have to go elsewhere But besides that everything was good

The food is mostly pub style, but they also have some sophisticated sushi rolls and I ordered some Thai mussels that were phenomenal. The service was good and the ambiance was nice. I always enjoy a place where I can sit and talk with the people that I went to dinner with.

Our server was incredible - I’d say he helped make the experience in all honesty. The food was impressive - we got clam chowder, haddock, a rainbow roll (divine) and a poke bowl. The only complaints was the bowl was too spicy to really enjoy and we had to pay for a side of plain white rice to tone down the spice. However if you enjoy that sort of thing it’s easy to recommend!

Didn't challenge the place much on my first visit as it was a quick business lunch. Nice atmosphere. Caesar salad and clam chowder were decent.

Cute place, I like the decor and the atmosphere. The tables are a bit close together. I wish there was music or something but granted it was Labor Day. The drinks were great, very well made. We had the calamari for the table and it was really good, lightly battered and tasty sauce ( not spicy). I had the Caesar salad and it was not that good, pretty dry and didn’t have much dressing. The chicken was dry as well. Friends had the burger and salmon and they looked great. I would give them another try with an Entées next time. I had the mango Mojito and it was great. The sushi that my fiend had looked good too.

Rib eye was amazing. I usually get the sushi because it is delicious and fresh but I decided to try something new and was not disappointed at all! They cooked it exactly to my liking (medium rare). Server was great for the most part. We let them know it was my friend’s birthday we were celebrating tonight. Waiter struggled to bring us our refills, they went missing a lot through out our dinner and made our visit almost over 2 hours. Not sure if he had too many tables or what. It was a Monday night and wasn’t that busy. He asked if we wanted dessert and we said no because we had plans to go back home and have dessert. Waiter acknowledged what we said and said he would bring us the check but he proceeded to bring a slice of cake with a candle in it. At first we thought this was a really nice gesture. We ended up eating it because we didn’t want it to go to waste and it was delicious. After 30 minutes we finally got our check and we notice the slice of cake was on the tab. It’s honestly ridiculous that he brought over something we did not ask for and proceed to charge us for it. We thought he was just trying to be nice. Not sure what kind of mistake this was but we didn’t even want to argue over it because we ate it and at this point we wanted to just get out of there as we had dessert plans with family at home.

I came here for my birthday with my partner yesterday. Ambience is great, however for a place that has a high reputation of being exquisite, it fell short of that. I ordered nona meatballs: the meat wasn’t cooked through, and the focaccia tasted old and stale. Mind you it’s meat and if uncooked well leads to food poisoning- which was what i got right after. Only good thing was the cauliflower that my partner got. I was violently vomiting in the bathroom , so bad that we had to leave. Manager came she seemed helpful but honestly hoping she offered another thing to compensate but she didn’t. The drinks were watered down. Spent like $120 just for nothing. I wouldn’t trust these guys with food or nothing.

Had to send steak tips back twice and still not cooked. Offered to cook same ones for a third time, I declined. Manager knew of issue and never came to me to address it or offer any type of resolution. Nice restaurant but if you can’t cook steak tips??? Won’t be rushing back.

BLACK TEETH after eating here. My mother and I had the new scampi dish and my mother and I both ended up with black teeth! We were literally able to wipe it off after seeing it in the bathroom mirror. We spoke to the manager who spoke to the head chef who denied any responsibility and showed NO concern (despite me informing him that I had food allergies and undisclosed ingredients pose an extra risk to me.) I would not eat here because, in addition to this experience, my wine glass was filthy and the food was not good.

Second time back. This food is laughably bad. Seated at a high top on Mother’s Day for a 5pm reservation made well in advance. Was Refused the 3 booths that were open because they were reserved. Ordered meatballs and crab cakes to start Crab was 6.5/10. Can’t complain. “Nana’s meatballs” must’ve been cooked with the lowest grade meat attainable, and balled up using someone’s toes. It took 10 min for the waitress to greet us and another 10 for the first round of drinks to arrive. Steak tips were not great. Good flavor but Low quality meat.

Disappointing. Nothing special. My biggest gripe: so little food for what you pay. Portions are too small for what they charge. Ordered the grilled salmon, was the size of a clothes pin. Taste was not fresh. Use to dine here years ago, and the quality has taken a 180. Sorry, have to be honest!
