We had a great experience at Pelican Grill. The short rib sandwich was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the truffle fries were crispy and delicious, and the espresso was smooth and well made. Everything came out fresh and well presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, making it a perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a meal. We truly enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back.
Food was amazing, the waiter was super nice and constantly checking in to refill my water and make sure everything was good. View was very nice as well.

Pelican Grill is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. From the amazing valet to the service and food. You can’t beat great food with an amazing view!
Love this place for food and view. Very cozy and chill. Food decent price to me for a high end restaurant. View is spectacular. I come back often. This was dinner. I went to lunch as well. Need to find lunch food pics lol.
Pelican Grill, located at The Resort at Pelican Hill, offers upscale California dining with sweeping ocean views and a relaxed, coastal atmosphere. The menu features seasonal, locally sourced ingredients with a focus on grilled seafood, premium steaks, and fresh salads. Signature dishes like the cedar-plank salmon and prime rib are guest favorites, all served with elegant yet approachable presentation. The dining room is spacious and refined, with large windows and a patio that make the most of the stunning Newport Coast setting. Service is professional and attentive, and the wine list is extensive, with plenty of California selections. Ideal for a sunset dinner, special occasion, or a leisurely lunch with a view, Pelican Grill delivers a polished experience in a beautiful location.
One of the most beautiful restaurants I've been to. The view is fantastic and the entire atmosphere has this grand feel to it. We ordered a ton of appetizers. The snake river steak was the best main course.
This is a great spot for special occasions. For lunch or brunch or sunset the views are amazing for outdoor seating. The dinner for outdoor is mostly darkness but well heated and they have pillows and blankets. The lunch views are amazing outside with views of the ocean. Service is amazing and friendly and have great recommendations. The food was delicious. Have been for lunch and dinner. Lunch the sandwiches were perfect. The lobster roll was my favorite. The ice wine they have is amazing for drinks. For dinner the sausage pasta is good and the veal is good. Overall the prices are expected for this type of food and the service is exceptional. Food is larger than expected and delicious. Free parking when you enter turn left into the garage. Also has valet.
One of my favorite fine dining restaurants in the area. Beautifully presented dishes that showcase a diverse range of flavors and ingredients. Elegant and refined setting makes for an unforgettable dining experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will assure that every aspect of your meal is perfect.
I love the view & sitting outside on the patio. The salad is good. French Dip, amazing! The kale & potato soup was the best. The chicken pot pie is tasty, but I wouldn't order it again. The tuna tostados was almost too much tuna.
We had a fabulous time here. Amazing service, great atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. Waterfront views to top it all off. Highly recommend the fries & caviar - we still talk about how good it was.
We had an amazing dinner at Pelican Grille. The stunning views, the beautiful decor, and the friendly and professional staff compliment the fabulous food. We had the steak tartar and octopus to start, and both were top-notch. We shared the cioppino as an entree, which was enough for us portion wise. They also have a great wine selection. I definitely recommend this beautiful restaurant when visiting the Newport Beach area.

Pelican Grill was a beautiful and relaxing spot to enjoy lunch. The margherita pizza had a perfectly crispy crust and fresh mozzarella, and the roasted chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful. The prosecco added a refreshing touch to the meal. What made the experience even better was the elegant outdoor seating with palm tree views and peaceful ambiance. Everything was well-prepared and served with care. It was a lovely place to unwind and enjoy a quality meal with a scenic backdrop. I’d definitely come again!

We had the pleasure of eating at Pelican Grill twice during our trip - once with a party of 8 (including our 2 kids under the age of 5) and once just as a table for two in the bar. Both times were incredibly pleasant experiences. The decor of the restaurant and view from the patio was stunning. The food and cocktails - especially the seafood options - were bomb. But, honestly, what made this restaurant so great was the incredible staff. Our servers were warm, attentive and had great recommendations. They treated my kids with so much kindness and respect, especially Armine and Ryan. During the table side risotto preparation, Ryan was so engaging with my 2 yo and even invited him to help stir the risotto. My kiddo has been talking about “cooking with Ryan” ever since and now loves risotto lol Armine was our main server and created such a pampered, smooth and decadent experience. He and Ryan remembered me and my husband when we came back alone, Armine even recalling our previous drink and food choices plus the name of our son. Thank you Armine, Ryan and Pelican Grill team for being such an unexpected surprise highlight of our trip.

My family of 5 is vegetarian and we were able to have a good lunch there. However, I would expect more vegetarian options on the menu, or at least several dishes that can be modified. We ended up ordering all that can be ordered vegetarian... the Newport salad, and Caesar salad (sub vinegarette dressing), veggie wrap, mushroom pizza, and spaghetti with vegetables (not on the menu but they made it for us). It was my husband's birthday and they brought out a small slice of strawberry cheesecake for him. Great service and good food. Again, in this day and age, would expect more creative vegetarian options.
Pelican Grill in Newport Beach: a beautifully designed haven perfect for celebrations. The sea bass exceeded every expectation, tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Unfortunately, service was a letdown: despite mentioning it was our anniversary, we had to ask multiple times for something as simple as bread and butter. frustrating for such an elegant evening. Thankfully, staff salvaged the night with a thoughtful free strawberry shortcake. A bittersweet experience, but the food was exceptional.
Had a wonderful experience at Pelican Grill. We started with the West Coast oysters, super fresh and served with all the classic fixings. The Caviar & Fries was a real highlight: crispy fries topped with luxurious Osetra caviar, smooth crème fraîche, and a drizzle of chive oil, elevated and indulgent. For the main course, the Puttanesca de Mer was outstanding, seared scallop, calamari, prawn, and mussels over flavorful tonnarelli nero, finished with fresh basil. The grilled duck was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The only downside was the slower food timing, even though the restaurant wasn’t that busy. Still, the quality of the food and overall atmosphere made it well worth it. Definitely looking forward to coming back!
So obviously with its history you expect nothing but the best. Let's go on why it's a 4 not a 5. Upon parking. I was able to have my car parked right in front with the other fellow exotic family. Already a good experience. Valet was VERY professional. Would expect nothing less at a place like this. Would not be acceptable if it wasn't. Moving onto the food experience lol. Upon walking in we were greeted immediately. They checked our table for the view and it was everything I expected. Thank you. Ordered the special. That day it was a ribeye with mash potatoes, asparagus. Lobster roll. Pretzel. And ceviche. WHOA let em go on about that. The ceviche was the star of this whole experience with the food. Marinated perfectly. Amazing fresh taste with perfect amount of lime to cook that fish. I HIGHLY recommend this. It wasn't spicy at all. But it does have jalapeño minced. Just be aware if that isn't your thing. The steak was cooked absolutely perfect. Medium rare. Didn't even need to ask. They just did it on their own. And what happened? Perfectly good. So here's why it's a 4 though instead of a 5. Steak had absolutely NO seasoning what so ever. Just braised in butter. Not acceptable. Needs at LEAST salt and pepper. Moving onto the lobster roll. More of a fresh take. No butter ( fail ) another reason for a 4 star. Was Cooked perfectly though and garnished with basic greens. In a strange vinaigrette. You want to know how you always make a lobster roll perfectly and no one Will complain? Butter. And then just leave it alone. Simple with things like this will always win. The pretzel? WOW perfectly made. Right amount of salt. The cheese sauce? Na not really a cheese sauce. WAY to thick as a roux. Barely tastes any cheese. More like butter flower sauce with a sprinkle of cheese. Do better. Overall the view and staff makes the experience excellent. When I had been here a few years ago it was the same with the staff. Never been an issue. Would I return? Without question. Great place for appetizers and drinks. Enjoy!

We celebrated Valentine’s Day and our anniversary at Pelican Grill in Newport Beach, and I want to start with what they did right. The food was excellent. Beautifully prepared, flavorful, and worthy of a special occasion. The service was equally impressive. Professional, attentive, and polished without being intrusive. It felt like a proper celebration dinner. Yes, the pricing is on the higher end, and for pure portion-to-cost value it may lean steep, but for a special evening the overall experience still felt worth it. Unfortunately, the night ended on a frustrating note that overshadowed an otherwise wonderful dinner. When we arrived, we were informed that valet would be compensated for dining guests. What no one told us was that valet parking had apparently increased as of December 2025 to $50. The valet attendant initially indicated $25. When we retrieved the car, we were told the total charge was $50, with only $25 being compensated. To charge $50 for valet — and then only partially comp it — when dinner for two exceeds $600 feels excessive and poorly communicated. At this level of hospitality, transparency should be standard. A surprise like that at the end of an anniversary dinner leaves a disappointing final impression. The food and service at Pelican Grill were excellent. Truly. But a $50 valet fee, only half-offset after a $600+ dinner, is difficult to overlook. It may very well push us to consider alternatives in the future rather than return, regardless of how good the cuisine is.
I recently dined at this restaurant and while I had a pleasant experience overall, I can't say that I was blown away. The service was fantastic - our waiter was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor and ambience of the restaurant were also quite nice, making for a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience! The dishes of the day were the chicken wings and the spaghetti. They were decent but nothing extraordinary. I must also mention that the prices at this restaurant were quite high.
I’m gonna say it—I hate the OC. And unfortunately, the service here (unless we’re seated with our usual server, who is truly wonderful) is exactly what I expect from the OC: aloof, slow, and like they’re doing you a favor. IYKYK. That said… the food? Always solid. The view? Absolutely stunning. But when it comes to the full experience, it’s giving, “This might be our last time here.” And honestly, I’m okay with that.
