Afternoon tea here was so very fun! It was set up so cute and the location is also decorated so cute. We started off with a pot of Earl grey and then they switched pots to a Paris tea. Both teas were good but the Paris was soooo delicious. It paired so well with the sweet stuff we got. The staff were all super lovely and friendly. I will definitely be coming again! The only downside to it was that the table had one side with a chair and then one side with a bench, and the bench felt like the seat was so high, I kind of felt like I was in a booster seat. I much preferred the actual chair that felt like the right height for the table.
We celebrated my bday today at Sweet Marie's, our first time at the new location. From start to finish it was a perfect afternoon tea experience. It’s clear how much love and care Lindsey puts into everything she does. Sweet Marie’s is a true gem in North Kingstown RI, and I can’t wait to return. Five stars, without question! 🌸☕✨
Visited yesterday with a friend and we had a great time! The tea and treats were delicious (especially the pumpkin spice macarons and the hibiscus blueberry lavender tea) and we loved the decor. The staff were friendly and overall it was a great experience.
The most adorable and delightful place to attend a tea! From the ambiance and wonderful service to the delicious food and delectable tea. Every detail has been well thought out and executed, right down to the cute little sugar cubes. I have introduced quite a few friends and family members to this spot and it never disappoints. People arrive in an array of styles, some more casual and in jeans while others might decide to wear a cute dress or tea-inspired outfit, whatever the attire your group lands on is appropriate. This place is definitely kid friendly as well and a great place to go to regardless of your age. Additionally, Wickford is a very cute area to explore, so there is definitely a lot to do while in this area if you want to keep the fun going after your tea. Always a great experience and I’ve never left hungry. One note I will make is to plan accordingly for parking, especially in the warmer months. I’ve always had to park on the street.
What a beautiful spot in historic Wickford Village! We had the afternoon tea which comes with English Breakfast. We opted to also tried Olong and it didn't disappoint. They were fantastic! Our three course sandwiches/savouries was a perfect combination of scones, bon bons, macaroons, and cucumber sandwiches, amongst other treats! The welcoming environment was so lovely on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Would highly recommend this place do not skip this cute lil treasure gem. The place is small but very cozy and homey. The snacks that they provide are amazing and enjoyed each bite of all the treats. Would highly recommend not skipping out on the scones they were mines and others favorite of all. The tea they offer was delicious and paired very well with all the treats you get. Honestly the next time I visit Rhode Island this will be the first thing on my list to do it was such a great time and other tables were friendly an nice as well. If you want a nice peaceful and lovely start to your day would highly recommend this place
UPDATE: since it's moved to the new location (across the street) I figured I update the photos! The food and tea is still great, the new location is gorgeous! The food is great, they are all very delicious. The tea and cocktails are very nice as well. Just a little bit pricey but not bad compared to the experience! The atmosphere and rustic decorations are awesome!
My girl friend and I came here recently to start off our self care Sunday and we had an incredible experience. The cottage was pretty inside and it felt special. Everything on the menu tasted amazing! And with the combination of bottomless tea, you truly walk away feeling full. I can’t stop thinking about how yummy and soft the scones were. I imagine someone hosting a tea party here because it’s so intimate and cute. 110% will be back again soon!
This place is magical! I was looking for a cozy venue for my daughters family wedding shower and found this gem. I spoke with owner and set up a time oct 2022 to met her and see the place. Though very tight space it affords the coziest, unique asthetic. She set up a sample for me, answered all my questions. The food was delicious, delicate and beautiful. I brought my hubby back for his feedback and he too agreed, perfect spot. We left a deposit and since then took a friend and small group of ladies for a birthday and again Lindsay was awesome, came out to say a quick hello, everything was lovey. I adore this place…. Treat yourself, surprise someone and book it
I came here with my bff to celebrate her birthday for the first time, and we both absolutely loved it. The food and tea were excellent, and the service was 10/10. It's quiet, and decorated like an antique/vintage tea room. I highly recommend and will definitely return. I have only good things to say about this place.
Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage is the perfect combination of rustic ambiance with eclectic flair. If you enjoy Afternoon Tea (especially around the holidays) I strongly recommend making a reservation here. From the: service, food, drinks, & atmosphere, Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage is top on my list.
Recently had afternoon tea at this adorable tea cottage while visiting my Mom. What a wonderful tea service! The food was plentiful and delicious! All made fresh on the premises. Service excellent and the room and table settings adorable. Please try this establishment! You won't be disappointed!
I took my daughter's here and it was a great experience. It's like a little fairy house decorated beautifully. Everything was lovely from the tea cups to the tea sandwiches. The tea was delicious. The staff was very friendly. I highly recommend this unique experience.
It was absolutely fabulous- I can’t imagine a better adult tea party experience. Set in an adorable cottage, smack dab in the middle of the most scenic small town I’ve encountered, it was several courses of delicious treats and the maximum amount of aesthetically pleasing decor that they could fit into the venue. I thought the size of the cottage would make it difficult to navigate or that it would become too loud, but everyone is there to have a good time and the best descriptor of the whole thing would simply be “charming.”
This place was so good and cute! Me and my wife had the nicest little date here and would love to go back. The finger sandwiches, scones and sweets were all super tasty. I had like twelve cups of tea too lol. Thanks so much ☺️
Celebrating my cousin's 70th birthday with a 5-star tea at Sweet Marie's in Wickford Village. From the charming decor (hand stenciled floors!) to the absolutely delicious food, if you're into high tea, Sweet Marie's is a must.
Very tiny. Good for small groups...less than 6. Very pretty inside. Have to walk outside to another building to use a bathroom. Parking is limited, so u may have a short walk.
We took my mother in law for her 87th bday and it was a wonderful experience. Worth the money!
We had a blast here, exceptional atmosphere, great food and amazing service. I highly recommend this place. Very cute 🥰
I love this charming, unique tea service. I'm a picky vegetarian, but even I have fully enjoyed the food both times I have been.
Very cozy and cute place for a tea time! Everything was great but I especially loved the chicken salad sandwiches, smoked salmon and macarons. I'll definitely come back!
This place is an absolute gem. Everything, every single detail, is exquisitely thought out. And the best Earl Grey tea I’ve ever tasted!
My daughters brought me here for my birthday. I had never been to a tea before. I had such a nice time.
It was my second time at Sweet Marie’s and as special as the first. It is such a cute, cozy place with so much charm, wonderful service and staff. Be sure to say hello to the owner working right along her staff.
Wonderful experience. Food and tea are great and it's just gorgeous inside. Cozy, quaint, fancy. Definitely recommend!
We had such a lovely time at tea service. The food was fantastic; every bite was delicious, and the scones were probably the best I’ve ever had. The tea was excellent too. There were 4 or 5 complimentary varieties to choose from, and we especially enjoyed the English Breakfast and Darjeeling. We brought children with us ranging in age from 4 to 9, and they really enjoyed the experience as well. We opted not to order the children’s food offerings, and that wasn’t a problem at all. Just a heads-up: any dietary requests, including allergies or children's menus, do need to be communicated at least 24 hours in advance. Our kids happily ate the scones and treats and even tried some new foods. The service was wonderful; everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Honestly, after reading a few negative reviews and seeing the strict-sounding policies on the website, we weren’t sure what to expect and even considered canceling. But we’re so glad we didn’t. It ended up being such a special family outing. My mom, who drinks tea regularly, commented on how good it was. We felt no pressure to spend anything beyond the base price. We all left feeling full, happy, and grateful for the experience. One suggestion for the business owner: the tone of the policies on the website could be softened. While the guidelines are understandable, the wording comes off a bit harsh compared to the warm and welcoming service we received in person. It was truly a lovely visit that exceeded our expectations.
Such a fun experience with a group of girls on a bachelorette trip. The staff was kind, attentive and accommodating. Great food and drink too! Would recommend highly.
Had the most amazing bridal shower for my daughter at the newly re-opened Tea Cottage. Such a lovely time. The food was amazing and the atmosphere delightful. So elegant and intimate. Just perfect! Thank to you and your staff, Lindsay for helping us to make a special memory. Sweet marie must be very proud of you!
Allergy friendly! My mom had a severe nut allergy and they went above and beyond to make sure nothing had nuts or traces of nuts. They even put us away from other tables to make sure she wasn't too close to anything with nuts. The food was tasty and the scones were fresh and perfectly moist. The decorations are very cute and the staff is extremely friendly. I would highly recommend this tea room!
I got to experience Sweet Marie's for the first time this weekend with my best friend! I was blown away by every single item on the menu, the attentiveness of the staff and attention to detail across the board. I am admittedly a sensitive soul but I genuinely got a tear in my eye biting into the scone! We are easily returning as a habitual activity when I come down to visit and my heart is so full from this wholesome experience! Couldn't recommend slowing down for a perfect high tea with someone you love here any more.
I cannot say enough about Sweet Marie’s, it’s owner, it’s chef and the location, they are all 5 star. Recently I hosted a bridal shower and a friend told me about Sweet Marie’s. After speaking with the owner Lindsey I knew this was the perfect place. She knows her business and her amazing chef Neil is world class. I drove her crazy with extras that weren’t on the menu, details about the dining room and more and she accommodated it all. The food was beyond excellent. The service was impeccable and most importantly, all the guest had a wonderful time and they are still talking about it! Don’t pass up this gem!
Sweet Marie's Tea Cottage is pure delight from start to finish. The food and service were first-rate. It's a great place to enjoy a family get-together or just experience with some friends. Will definitely revisit and highly recommend!
We decided to reserve a spot for tea at Sweet Marie's, and I am so glad we did. It was a wonderful experience! The pot of Earl Grey tea was lovely, and the food was delicious. I especially liked the sandwiches - tarragon chicken salad, cucumber and chive, strawberries with cream cheese and jam. Also, the background music was great. All in all, we had a very nice time. We will definitely go back again.
adorable little place. Recently met up with friends for tea and had a wonderful time. It was really nice that they have a vegan option as one of our party is vegan. The atmosphere and service are wonderful and relaxing and the food was very good. We will 100% go again.
I took my 8 year old daughter here for an end of school year tea. She loved it. All their food was amazing. We will be back!
I had my bridal shower at Sweet Marie’s in October and I can’t say enough great things about it! I unfortunately got sick the weekend of my shower and Lindsey was so gracious and let me reschedule the following weekend. We all loved the tea, food, decor, and friendliness of the staff. Very excited to come back again and can’t recommend them enough!
The place is very cute. Sandwiches were very fresh and delicious. 2 toes of scones, a sweet and a savory. Matcha macaron, a truffles and a mini cupcake were dessert. The tea was steeped perfectly. I ordered an orange aperol. Best I have ever had. Definitely a keeper.
I brought my mother and sister to Sweet Marie's and we had a lovely time! The food was delicate and sophisticated, the tea was delicious, the staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortably elegant. I would absolutely return to Sweet Marie's again.
Had an absolutely wonderful time here! I came with a friend for afternoon tea and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was perfect, the team was incredibly nice, all the food was excellent, and there were so many tea options from which to choose. I was especially impressed with the pumpkin snickerdoodle macarons, cheddar-chive scones, and tarragon chicken salad sandwiches. Highly recommend.
A wonderful place to celebrate one's dear friends birthday! It was delightful, scrumptious tea favorites! Will be going back again! Plus the town is full of quaint shops.
My friend had been disappointed by other high tea offerings around Newport County. I took a chance on Sweet Marie’s and it was everything my friend was looking for and more. We savored each morsel of each food on the 3 tiered tray. We opted for Earl grey tea. Delicious. We asked for lemon and to my delight the seeds had been removed from the perfectly sized and cut lemons. NOW that is paying attention to detail. It was a perfect Way to spend time together and catch up each other’s news. Highly recommend !!!!😊yummy
Sweet Marie’s was a quaint and cost tea experience that I was very grateful to share with my wife, sister and mother. The bottomless tea was a real treat and the tea sandwiches, scones and desserts were delicious. I especially loved the truffle which was cookie-licious. The atmosphere really steals the show here and the staff were really kind and friendly. The service was good overall but it would be nice if the staff checked on the tea pots more proactively as we did have to ask for refills for each of the tea pots. It seems like this business is a bit newer and overall we really enjoyed the experience. If you’re looking for a unique and cool tea experience I’d definitely recommend taking a trip here. The location is right near down town Wickford which makes for a cute after tea stroll!
Sweet Marie's is one of the best afternoon tea experiences I've had in the area. While the service is on the slow side - it felt like an age passed between the time we received our tea tray to the time our specialty tea and drinks arrived - everything is well worth the wait. The venue is a small cottage with some stone walls and exposed beams on the ceiling - it has the vibes of an English cottage, which makes it a very intimate place for tea. Everything on the tea tray was good - there wasn't a single thing I was displeased with, though small quibbles could easily have been blown way out if proportion were there - this could have had more basil, that could have more lemon. But in the end? Those are quibbles. What I want to focus on are the highs and the single low. The prosciutto, fig, pear, goat cheese sandwich was great. It was a perfectly balanced little bite that I wish could have gone on longer than a few bites. The pineapple matcha macarons? Perfect. Airy, tasty, just right. Count me as awed. Lemon cupcakes? Airy and light - perfectly Springy and an ideal treat for this time of year. The scones? I thought the orange cranberry one was underbaked. Not horribly so, but a little bit doughy in my opinion. The cheddar one? Complete redemption. Just what I want in a savory scone. The pomegranate blood orange non alcoholic drink I got? Foul. It was just bitter and sad. I recommend checking out Sweet Marie's. It is a quaint place with a great vibe that does tea well. I could go on and on, citing pros and cons, goods and bads, but in the end? It would be thousands of words that add up to give it a try - the experience is well worth it.
Charming cottage set up for a relaxing tea. 3 tiered servers of delectable mini sweet and savory treats and an endless pot of tea (several varieties available) for each table. It's like having tea at your grandmother's house, replete with her handpainted china cups and saucers, and a lovely tablecloth. Terrific way to spend a few hours. Make reservations!
Before you go here, take note: My friends and I are passionate about Afternoon Tea/High Tea. We have been for many many years and have tried numerous establishments all over Europe and the United States. We were visiting Rhode Island so we decided to give Sweet Marie’s Cottage a try last month, April 18. 1. Although this establishment used to operate in actual cute, rustic cottage, it is no longer in that same location today. They moved a few blocks down the street and now occupy a former retail space in a commercial building with other commercial tenants. Even if their name still says “Sweet Marie’s Cottage,” remember, it’s no longer in the old rustic cottage. True, the cottage had much more charm and personality than the new location but the new location is pretty enough and well decorated. 2. Please read their menu carefully because the Afternoon Tea Prix Fixe of $36 does not include the cream or jam that you normally would expect to eat with your scones. You will have to pay an extra $2 if you want about a tablespoon and a half of jam with your scones and another $2 if you want the tablespoon and a half of cream. (I thought this was ridiculous because the cream and jam should have been included in the prix fixe price). Most people simply love to eat scones with jam and clotted cream. Period. I paid extra for both the cream and jam but was really annoyed because the amount of cream and jam was stingy, barely enough to spread on one or two scones—definitely needed more than what they gave, so I felt forced to pay extra for more. 3. The “complimentary” base tea selections they provide—are extremely inferior in quality. My friends and I opted for the complimentary teas and were really disappointed as the teas had no fragrance, no flavor, just bland, cheap tea. So of course you will wind up spending $8+ extra if you want a more acceptable or premium tea. So then what “appears to be” -at first glance-, a reasonably priced $36 Prix Fixe Afternoon Tea menu experience, will actually and inevitably turn into a $52+ total expense (excluding tax and tip) for it to be an acceptable eating and drinking experience (because you paid extra $$ for the jam and creams and better quality tea). So please be warned if you have higher standards and have had a lot of experience doing Afternoon Tea. My last critique is- the scones, sandwiches and dessert offering were ok. Nothing special to rave about. Pretty basic tasting sandwiches. I liked the banana sandwich, that was very good and more interesting, but the chicken salad sandwich was my least favorite. It was so dry that the mayonnaise could not save it. There were no distinct herbs or flavors or textures that came out from the recipe and ingredients so it was dull. The sizeand portions of food were very small and sparse. I know tea sandwiches are supposed to be dainty and small but in this case, it was tiny and you do not get enough variety, so do not come here hungry. Overall, the cost to value ratio from this tea experience was truly disappointing and lacking so I would not return nor recommend this place.
Nice service. Very thoughtful decorum. Tea was very lack luster. The quality was low and over brewed. I think the scones were far too soft. Also the deserts lacked flavour. Other than that. It's quite thoughtful in its approach.
We were "greeted" by someone who said we could pick one of the tables that were already set up. We asked if we could have a different table that had comfy chairs. The hostess reluctantly said, oh, ok. not welcoming. was stark. I've been to many tea rooms, and this one lacked charm. The server gave us menus and quickly left. We had questions about the food, and she said "its all on the front page of the menu". Many restaurants ask if the customer has ever been there, and this one should have definitely done that, as their "protocol" was unique. She then said, "you'll see when the food come." She brought us tea, one of 4 selections that was "complimentary." Mind you, this "tea" was $36 per person. I think that they should have had a wider selection of teas, and better quality. The tiered presentation was ok, and the food was ok. I thought the sandwiches could have been more plentiful, and maybe less pastries. We waited for a very long time for the server to bring us our check, and clear the table. Finally I had to get up, and the person behind the register said the server had to leave early, and if had read the front page of the menu, we would have known that we pay at the register. Food: 7.5, atmosphere 5, service, unacceptable. Tea rooms should be welcoming and cheerful.
I hope it becomes a success but there are significant problems. Despite charming decor, insistence on reservations to be served anything but tea and bonbons (It was 3:00 PM) is a huge mistake, We stayed but four people walked out and the place was less than half full. The wait staff might consider dressing in more feminine manner than jeans. It was not consistent with your beautiful tea shoppe decor,
They weren’t open when the website says they are, very disappointing as we could have went another day instead (we are not in the area the day they changed our booking to but the website said the date we chose). The front door was unlocked for guests to come in and the website allowed us to make a booking on any day of the week (if certain times can be blocked out, so can certain days, and adjusting the day and date after we received the initial verification is unacceptable). The website still currently says they are open for another 2 hours. And the owner only commenting on negative reviews to tell the costumer specifically that they were wrong instead of working to fix their mistakes (i.e. website not working properly) tells exactly what it needs to about the service
Tea was good, sandwiches were very good. Service was very poor. We found ourselves needing something all the time we were there. There were only 8 tables seated and two ladies working. The lady who seemed to possibly be the owner was friendly enough but the other was not pleasant and seemed put out every time we asked for something. One word type answers to everything. There's no soap in the restroom...... "oh ok". The menu says after they bring the food they offer more tea but no one ever offered so 30 min after the scheduled time we had to ask. Also BTW you need a disgusting keychain to use the restroom like you're at a truckstop gas station. No one ever asked if we needed anything or how it was. Paper menus were all stained with tea. Paper menus are cheap, the cost to have tea here is very expensive.... seems to me they can afford to replace the menus when they get stained. Edit: Let me also take a minute to clear up some of your misunderstandings. If in fact you are committed to attentive service you should focus more on this during hiring and training, in our experience it didn't show. We would never go out of our way to inform you if the soap was low, only that it was empty. My issue with your paper menus is not that they're cheap, but since they are cheap, you should replace them when they're stained and dirty. Dirty menus are never charming. We too found it disheartening to have added you to our long list of one star restaurants. We had come in hopes of adding you to our long list of five star reviews. The main point and cause of my review which seems to be lost on you...... is that your server is not attentive, is not friendly, and behaves as if guests are bothering her when they make requests. This should be addressed, if she was friendlier, and seemed happy to serve all of your guests, the smaller things would have absolutely been overlooked. No one wants to spend money at an organization and feel as though they're being treated poorly. We're more than happy to spend money at places like this, but we want to be treated as if our patronage is appreciated.
