As a gay friendly guy from Vermont I absolutely love the atmosphere and the employees and looks like a perfect local place to meet great people I will definitely be back
I had a wonderful New Years celebration this Wednesday/Thursday at Julius’ thanks to Helen and her wonderful staff! Drink were great and very reasonably priced. Cash-only! But there is an ATM in the back (and more seating!). Thank you again, we will be back!
What a great surprise. We went there to attend my cousin’s birthday and we all had great time. It is clearly an historic place and a landmark in NYC. We felt it while inside and we really loved the experience. Great drinks, great service, good music and also amazing burger and fries for a very fair price.
An icon well worth checking out. The walls are adorned with write ups and glamour shots. Julius earned its place in history for the ‘sip-in’ and has endured for its modest and simple style. Cash only, pub food if you’re hungry and friendly bartenders eager to please. Solid bar for the working class.
Every burger comes with a side of pride and history. Love this place. 🫶. So glad it’s been a slate-wart(hate that word). The drinks are good. Reasonably priced (all things relative) and they make a mean burger. If you go at prime time it will be packed so place ur food order early! And try and belly up at the bar. That is where you get to see all the action take place
Historical. Gay. Vibe. It’s a friendly local bar to end your day and start the night. The bar food is hearty. The staff are fab. The crowd are mostly partnered New Yorkers trying to be SJP or Samantha from SatC but half of them probably don’t know the reference. But it’s definitely a vibe.
They attend you quickly, it is an ancient gay bar, this bar has his history. The hamburguer and the chef was good, like really good, I take out the onion because it is not cooked, but the hamburguer and the natural fries are good. They charge you for the pickles 😅 take a note for that. The gay beer was refreshing and neat. I recommend it. You found locals from the area and pretty handsome people around. I would love to come back.
A bit crowded - we had to wait a bit to be sitted - I guess it's linked to their success. Because the place is great 👍 We had the best time, for our first time in a NY gay bar. The bartenders (both) were the Nicest!!! So friendly, funny and helpful (thanks again for that, guys!) Burgers and fries are delicious 😉
I have been to Julius' twice. For most people, this bar might look intimidating given that it is not as popularized (or maybe I'm wrong!) as Stonewall. I have been to Cubbyhole and Stonewall in the city, so based on my experience, Julius' is a quieter, but crowded bar depending on when you go. I went twice: once at around 5, when it was very busy with multiple people, primarily men and their mates, and another time when it just opened. The bar is relatively quiet when you arrive early. It fills up, but not many people come in until much later or during cocktail/happy hour. Food wise, the burgers and fries are good. Ray makes great burgers, and I savored each and every bite. It is tender and worth the meal. A bit overpriced, but it's a reasonable price for eating and drinking at the bar. Ricky is a good bartender, but he's more reserved. I haven't tried any cocktail yet from him. A bit limited with beers, IPAs, also but they do have the big names like Corona and Heineken. They don't have Blue Moon, though. Just saying. Regardless, I was able to meet the manager, Shaq. He is a gem. Very understanding man. I will come back!
I love this bar. I have been coming here for 20 years. The burgers have changed a number of times over the years, but they've always been really good...until now. This has nothing to do with how they were cooked, the meat just wasn't as good and it's a bummer. I hope the burgers will change again and get better. The fries, as always, were awesome.
Always good, ol’ Julius. Oldest gay bar I town. Haven’t been here in the longest. Great atmosphere, just don’t order the burgers. Walmart frozen patties.
I went here for a visit as I was told my a friend that they have the most under rated and in her opinion, the best burgers in New York. Naturally I had to give it a shot. I was served by an elderly gentleman, who was ok but perhaps needs to work on his customer service skills if he's going to be the face of the food at Julius'. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. The thing I always look for in a burger is meat quality. In this case I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, so naturally I was weary. The came cooked well done with a thick enough patty. The meat quality wasn't bad but fairly average for something that has been labeled the best burger in town, which many of the reviews emphasize. But being completely honest I was let down because of my expectations, but still found it quite satisfying. It was just a simple mouthful. No frills, no thrills, just a good burger. Regular bun, no brioche, no pretzel. But at the same time the combination of the raw onion and lettice with the cheese, bacon and burger together was still great and difficult to get nowadays with places constantly trying to elevate burgers. The onion rings were really good but a bit greasy. They combined well with the array of sauces they had to offer, particularly the honey mustard. Perhaps 3 stars is harsh but I've taken all into account. I can definitely see how they may be more appealing after a few beers but unfortunately I didnt have the assistance of alcohol behind my judgment on this occassion.
The bar tender stole money from me (!) and threatened me. I was over charged 40$. Worst place I have ever been in the city, stay away by all means.
Worse BARTENDER; WEAKEST DRINKS: EXPENSIVE and if you dare to tell the bartender that you didn’t taste the alcohol. He will suggest a shot and be ready because it will be the same price as the cocktail! Waiter at the tables NASTY!!! I have been here so many times and always brag about the burgers but after this AWFUL experience, my husband and best friend left without trying the burgers.
