This was a great dining experience. You have 7 courses around the history and flavors of Oaxaca. You can also do the 7 courses with 7 different drinks as well. While every dish and drink didn't wow me the overall experience was great. It is reasonablely priced for what you get. It is a great place to go for a special occasion. We were a table of 11 and we were comfortable and had a lot of room. They ask.you at the beginning about any allergies or food sensitivities. All the staff work in a cohesive manner and they stay on top of everything. Since the menu changes daily what I had tonight might not be what you have for dinner. My favorite dish was the fish Toscana. I highly recommend giving this a try if you are in the Oaxaca area.
Criollo offers a more traditional take on local breakfast dishes with a twist. They were very accommodating with dish changes and special requests, even for the kids. The space is rural chic, with a warm and elegant feel, despite dining among hens. Service is polite and professional and not as engaging or casual as at some other restaurants. Highlights: quesadilla de costilla y conchas, green juice. • Dog-friendly (as long as your dog is comfortable around other animals) • Blankets available if you get cold
Visited Oaxaca Mexico. Definitely at the top of your list if you enjoy great food that is a mystery except that for very fresh in season dishes. The 7 course tasting menu was creative, thoughtful and brilliantly prepared. Modern Mexican is a good description. Each dish was excellent. Standout were the fish taco unlike any ever had by me., and the BB beef in black mole. Wow. Very regular menu changes.
One of the truly extraordinary meals I have ever had. Worldclass and special. My wife had the tasting menu and I had the tasting menu with the pairing. Different, delicious reiminaging of oaxacan cooking. Every bite was a delicious surprise! I would say the one restaurant I wouldn't miss in Oaxaca.
We came for breakfast on a Tuesday morning. We did not make a booking, but it wasn’t a problem as there was plenty of space. The staff was professional and kind, the food was great and we really enjoyed the pastries, which they offer to you for a 30-35 pesos. The garden is beautiful and there are a couple of cute chickens roaming around free. I would highly recommend.
We had a fantastic time at Criollo! We opted out of the tasting menu because we weren't very hungry, and we really appreciated how flexible the staff was about letting us order a la carte. The food was a masterpiece—beautifully plated and full of complex Oaxacan flavors. The service was warm, and the vibe was the perfect mix of elegant and chill. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a sophisticated yet accessible meal in Oaxaca.
10/10 - this place is great! on the pricier side but in my opinion totally worth it if you’re looking for a delicious oaxacan upscale meal! we went to pujol a week prior and almost thought this was better. each course was a delight, perfectly timed and they were very accommodating of dietary restrictions.
Thank you for an amazing morning. Breakfast followed by a cooking class, that went through till early afternoon. Exceptional experience, great taste sensations. Our chefs were so engaging with our whole group across different ages. A must do. Thank you to the team and Jesus for the experience
We enjoyed dining here very much! We first came here on a tour with Omar and then came back for lunch. The setting is gorgeous in the middle of a garden. You have chickens running around under your feet and it’s quite endearing while we were here. One of the staff lit up some leaves and walked the smoking leaves all through the restaurant in a ceremonial manner. We only had a couple of dishes for lunch but they were delicious and had great portions.
Fantastic tasting menu with unique and local flavors and large portions. I was very pleased with this restaurant - the courtyard is cute and cozy and the server was helpful and friendly. My favorites were the soft shell crab taco, sea bass, and salad with salmon roe. I was also able to easily modify the tasting menu to be pescetarian friendly.

Criollo was great - we had the tasting menu, and didn’t regret it. We’d recommend not having the drinks pairing, and it’s not a cheap night out, but it’s a beautiful atmosphere, and the food is sup…
Very good experience here this evening. Six course tasting with the possibility of matching wines. This option we did not partake in. Food was delicious particularly the first three courses - exceptional. The service very attentive without being over-the-top. Atmosphere pleasant. Not possible though to have coffee at the end as the “cafe was closed”. This I found surprising. Overall though very worth the dining experience, all dishes had very much a Mexican undertone, subtle.
I would like to start by saying the experience wasn't bad per se', just at the the price point it does not deliver. When I am paying $125USD per person (fixed price and menu) I expect 5 star service …

Great food and atmosphere. Service ok. We went at 12 and loved sitting in the sunny courtyard. Delicious mole! Would recommend for brunch.

Fun experience but wildly overpriced. Very posh restaurant in a dismal neighborhood. Only tasting menu available when we were there and they did not tell us fish would be in 6 of the 8 dishes. Di…
Expensive for what really is. The food is very good, but not worth the price. The service is very good, but the music is simply terrible.
Dinner was really nothing special. Only one dish out of six was TOP class (octopus). Then 2 were very good (tomato salad and appetizers). dessert and the 2 meat plates were just average. Service wa…

The Christmas dinner set course was a miss. The food was bland, overcooked and unimaginative, especially for the 3.3K price tag. The shrimp taco was cold and rubbery. Service was a bit disjointed but the staff was the highlight of the night. They were very attentive, pleasant and eager to make sure that out table had a great night. The restaurant is beautiful and everything was very well decorated. It be nice to see the quality do food during regular service.
We went to Criollo for dinner, after having eaten at most other “top” restaurants in Oaxaca. We were expecting a bit more in terms of creativity: the food was good but the dishes were a bit boring, especially given the price (significantly higher than most other places we tried: $1,950 only food, $2,450 with drink pairing, per person). The drink pairing was good. The pace of the courses was too rushed, especially at the beginning. We were there with our dog, who as always just sat silently in our lap for the entirety of the dinner. The people in the table next to us brought three dogs, who barked a lot and were clearly not happy nor trained to be in a restaurant. Again, given the standing of the restaurant and the price, this shouldn’t happen, and people with pets that are disruptive for other guests should be asked to find a solution or leave. So overall a quite disappointing experience.

The food was good BUT it was VERY VERY expensive $400 for a couple Do not recommend this restaurant. There are so many others in Oaxaca to choose
Beautiful Interiors, HORRIFIC HYGIENE The biggest disappointment of our Oaxaca trip. We booked brunch, but on arrival were told only expensive set menus were available. After showing our booking, they reluctantly provided the regular menu. I ordered a local slow-cooked meat dish that took ages to arrive, and when I made a first bite, I ended up with a long thick black hair in my mouth. I am blonde with short hair so there was no doubt about the nature of that hair. The waiters were in a bit of a shock and dish was replaced, but there was no apology or acknowledgment from management for such a serious hygiene issue. Beautiful interiors, but overall unacceptable service and standards. I do not recommend this place.
