Fell in love with this place when they were open for lunch. They've since stopped serving lunch, but I make it a point to have dinner and drinks when I can. You must have the Hot Chicken at least once.
Perfect size. Very warm atmosphere. Great food and service. Unique cocktail and beer selections.
Great food. Not a great selection of drinks but the food is absolutely delicious.
The food prep was great. I would order anything and be confident that it will be delicious.
Randomly walked into this restaurant to later see it mentioned in a magazine as a highly rated small plates restaurant.
I had always hated grits until I had them here. The food was perfect
Really loved the dishes, good ambience, nice beer selection
The sliders were awesome. Good beer and cocktail list.
Great small plates. Chicken, catfish, mustard greens yum
Amazing service and top notch culinary experience!
Love this place! Great burger!
I like big fat ham
Love the food and service...
The best
Delicious chicken.
good staff
Food is off the hook especially the hot chicken. Great quality, good service, and decent but small beer selection. Not my thing but enormous whiskey selection. Small place, pretty easy to get a walk in for 6 on a summer Saturday night but imagine the wait would be long when Drexel and Penn classes start. Highly recommended
Amazing sunday supper special! Great cocktails! We had the mook mule, and it was sooo tasty. The food was great from start to finish. The servers were on top of every course. I would highly recommend and I'm definitely going back! I didn't care too much for the banana bread/cake thing at the end. I thought that could have been better but for a 9 course gourmet meal for $30 you can't complain much I guess. A+++
Not going to win awards for healthy meals, but if you want good southern food, this is the place to come to. Came here for lunch, the food was good, even if the portions were a little small. Good cocktails, decent beer list.
My son and I saw Kevin Spraga win Top Chef. His second restaurant will not disappoint. The food is fabulous. My son said the Hot Chicken was the best chicken he ever had. Everything is delicious!
Fried carb overload!!! But it was phenomenal! A quarter chicken fried with a wonderfully crunchy coating and then dredged in a hot concoction, help me, oh it was so good. Well, this tasty viddle was placed atop a slice of homemade white bread that had a ranch dressing covered with pickles. When the bar tender said white bread, I cringed. But, since it home made, it wasn't processed in a bakery, so I felt a smidge better. Eaten together, the bread, ranch, pickle and crunch were enough to bring on the food dance and make you hum, mmm mmm mmmm. Okay, I'm almost done...ordered another tasty bourbon sassafrass thingey cause the fire from the chicken was intoxicattingly hot. Dessert was a sliver of buttermilk cheese cake served with fragrant blackberries. The venue is cozy and the dishes are mismatched or slices of logs. My Fat Ham experience all by myself was wonderful! The Fat Ham is okay for vegetarians too, despite the name.
Southern cooking in a rustic University City outpost. Delicacies include skillet cornbread with molasses butter, hot chicken sandwiches and Mississippi mud pie.
Good speakeasy type drinks. The wings are great and I recommend the sliders too!
Decent "Southern" food and cocktails - pricey
Been to this restaurant twice and the food was pretty consistently good both times (try their hot chicken!). It's a small restaurant and it does get a little loud when the crowd shows up.
First time there was not impressed portions very small so there for very expensive. Service was good but not great order dessert and coffee bought the dessert but not the coffee. Would not be going back.
It was ok and would probably go there again . prices reasonable and food pretty good!
Delicious food, creative cocktails, but definitely pricey!
Food ok ( salty for my preference) very small dining area. Good service tho. Small portions and it doesn't make sense because it's a southern food restaurant. But if you just want to go get drinks come here
One would think a Saturday night would cause a place like The Fat Ham to be busy, but I was the only one there when I walked in at 10:25PM. I know I know.. What a jerk for going to a place and ordering food so late. That time kind of deserves a response like that, but it's not like it was 10:45PM or something, and to be fair, I asked if I should even sit down because I've worked at a restaurant before and I know it is a pain for that one person to come in so late, kind of late. I was creating the space for honesty. He said to have a seat. I should have turned away when I had the chance. I felt like everything I was eating was the left overs from the day. Which, again, I don't mind that, like I mentioned, I've worked at a restaurant before. But what gets me is for a place claiming to be Southern, there was not an ounce of southern hospitality during my whole time there, what I mean is the service was poor, dry and non-exist. If you guys didn't want me there you should have just said so actively when I asked if I should take a seat rather than locking up the chairs outside and all the rest you when when you close down a restaurant I wanted to sit out there with a drink too. It was just awkward and I wish I didn't go there, which is not how you are suppose to feel when leaving a restaurant. And...I live in the south and I didn't get "Southern" food, but this critique is more about the service than its food.
A laughable attempt at southern dining. And I think it's because people in philadelphia have a skewed understanding of decency and hospitality so it isn't necessarily the restaurant's fault. Ridiculously long wait. Needless to say, I've given up on food in this city in general. It simply CAN'T get any worse. LOL
Horrible horrible horrible service horrible food horrible and wayyyyyy to expensive this place is NOT WORTH WHAT THEY CHARGE this place gets no stars from me. The food is NO WHERE NEAR SOUTHERN I dont know who south this came from but it damn sure is not from the south this place is overrated and when I asked one of the servers about the price and the automatic $33 gratuity she went to the rest of the staff to tell them what i asked as if i couldnt see her we never received an apology for our wait but others around us did (of course they were white) i will NEVER eat here again and i will tell everyone i know to NEVER EVER go to the fat ham again and i will be sure to also post it on all my social media outlets. Last but certainly not least there is ABSOLUTELY no organization when it comes to serving the food oh yea one more thing everyone that came in after us ate before us and left before us. Most of the food was cold and the portions was not enough for 6 people to share
