Coming from Tahoe and driving to the Bay Area not knowing we’re to stop to eat . Oh yeah I’m a food snob. Food was amazing very detailed. For sure this will be my stop when we go to south lake. Burgers and chicken sandwiches were amazing. Friendly, quick service too.
Delicious Chicken Pesto sandwich, fries and grilled veggies. The chocolate shake was the real deal, so yummy! And the team working was super friendly and helpful. Loved the back patio too!
The price of the food and the quality is great. The soul burger with the seasoned garlic curly fries is just such a nice warm new found comfort food. The service was great and I didn't feel rushed while looking at the menu, the server asked us our names and was very polite and attended everyone while being the only server, she also got us refills on the self served soda machine if we needed. There was a beautiful parrot called Sierra in the back seating near the entrance to the patio. The server cleared the tables very quickly when we finished with the food and I'm pretty sure even one of the cooks (it was actually the owner my apologies) came out to check if everything was good (it was so great) I plan to come here again in the future. I love everything about this.
We love eating here. Service is great. Food is great. We always stop by to eat here when passing through Placerville.
Great late lunch, we came in at 2:30 and they close at 3. Never felt rushed and got to enjoy our food as we watched the tourists walk past the window. Good job everyone!
Had the cheese burger. It was excellent! Nice portion size, great quality ingredients, and the most awesome crunchy fries! The service was friendly and attentive. Enjoyed the quiet, clean, cozy patio. Food served in gold pans is a nice shout out to the town's history.
Cozy, family restaurant. Zoe took our order up front. They have gluten free buns made on site so I ordered the chicken sandwich which was very good. Husband got a bacon burger which he was very happy with. John brought our food to the table and he is a welcoming presence. He called folks by their names as they arrived. Indoor/outdoor dining. Will be back.
WOW!! The Old Town Grill ... Is the place to eat a real hamburger. I ordered the mushroom burger. It was delicious. The flavor of the beef really came through. The additional fresh ingredients only enhanced the burger. I enjoyed it so much I didn't want it to end. The other people in my party couldn't stop saying how much they really liked it. My only complaint... Not enough French fries. They had a nice crunch. Loved them too. I wouldn't call this fast food... It's good food. The staff and chef are helpful and friendly. If you want delicious, you will want to try this place. 🙂
This is a really great place to stop in for lunch. Good atmosphere, great food, and exceptional service. They called us by name when delivering our order to our table, and also as we left.
Great burgers, amazing price, amazing sandwiches. The reviews aren’t kidding stopped by from out of town and made Placerville the routine destination
I stopped into Old Town Grille with my family on our way back home to the Bay Area. The service was excellent. The family that runs the restaurant made us feel like family, asking where we were from and having a genuine conversation. The burgers were excellent and we loved the back patio. We'll definitely be back!
I can't say enough good things about this place! They are known for their awesome burgers, but their menu is so big, it's difficult to choose. I had a chicken pesto sandwich that was phenomenal. Prices are reasonable, and the staff is extremely friendly. Chef John is friends with anyone who walks in the front door. Love, Love, Love this place!
The burgers are so so good as are the regular fries and the garlic curly fries. Great service. The owner is so incredibly kind. Will absolutely be back on my through the mountains.
This is an outstanding establishment. I do not have words to express how lucky you are if you get the oppurtunity to dine here. You Will Have A Most Excellent Time!
The most amazing burgers!! Good quality beef, cooked to perfection and the service is top notch. We enjoy their burgers often. John the Chef/Owner has got to be one of the nicest humans we’ve ever met!
This place is amazing. The burgers are fantastic, so are the fries, shakes, and clam chowder! Every person who works here is so kind and goes way out of their way to be helpful. The owner, John and his parrot sierra are genuine, caring and kind people. I really can’t say enough about how great this place is and how well me and my family was taken care of. Can’t wait to come back here!
My husband and I went to Placerville for our 10th anniversary partially to enjoy the WONDERFUL FOOD prepared/served expertly by John and his Amazing, Courteous Staff. We highly recommend stopping in and enjoying anything on the menu; especially as John keeps his prices very reasonable for the high quality meals his restaurant serves with a smile 😊.
We happened into Old Town Grill yesterday while wandering about Placerville for apples and other fun. We were thrilled to see the sign out front that we could eat on the back patio and that doggies were allowed! Staff was attentive and happy when we walked in and ordered. They had no problem making sure food allergens were avoided with our order. As we started back to head to the patio, John the owner greeted us from the grill and thanked us for coming in. We found painted rocks in a bin, similar to that of our author friend Patti Digh, which brought a smile to our faces. Our food came out quickly, staff checked back with us several times, offering to refill our beverages and checking on our satisfaction with the food. Other than a loud party of guys who seemed to have to yell their entire conversations, the meal was great (they left soon after our meal was served). Our burgers were delicious, made to the order we asked and were filling and tasty. Everyone wore masks, keep compliant with customers not touching community items except as needed and the staff were pleasant. On our way out, John thanked us for our patronage. Really folx, this is a small town grill that stays alive because we come in to eat. Go get a GREAT meal from a local who understands what small town is like and who understands customer service. You can eat at Mickey D's anytime in any location, you're not going to get an Old Town Grill anywhere else. Thanks John and crew, stopping in for a meal helped to make our day wonderful!!
The grill has such a calm and comforting vibe. Alongside the fresh and organic delicious food everyone working was so kind and thoughtful in the way they served you. Definitely come in between shopping for a relaxing and fulfilling meal!
Fabulous burgers that taste like the kind dad used to grill up on summer weekends in the backyard! Terrific service tops it off!
Our absolute favorite restaurant in town! Everything is made from high quality ingredients and it's always delicious. The owner and staff are welcoming, friendly and very attentive . I highly recommend Old Town Grill to everyone.
John Sellers is the owner and I appreciate seeing him in action! The way that he greets each and every person coming in the door with a smile on his face. It truly is a wonderful place and bonus ...great food
Love the atmosphere here. They offer indoor and outdoor patio seating. The Chef is awesome 😎 and our waiter was great. Fast service and pet friendly. My burger was awesome, as well as, the garlic curly fries. My sister always enjoys their grilled chicken sandwich with pesto spread, she can't seem to order anything else they have to offer lol because she's in love with their chicken sandwich.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ AN UNFORGETTABLE FIND IN PLACERVILLE — OLD TOWN GRILL! We stopped by Old Town Grill in Placerville for what we thought would be a quick lunch, and it turned out to be one of the best meals and experiences of our trip. The food was absolutely outstanding — the mushroom burger was to die for, the tender chicken was perfect for the kids, the curly fries were delicious, and the soup was such a comforting treat on a cold day. Everything tasted fresh, hearty, and prepared with such care. The hospitality here is truly something special. We met the owner, John, who was incredibly warm and welcoming, along with his wonderful staff who made us feel right at home. They were also so welcoming of our little dog, which meant the world to us — it’s rare to find a place that treats both families and pets with such kindness. And, of course, the star of the afternoon was Sierra, the beautiful macaw who completely enchanted our kids (and the adults too!). She added so much joy and charm to our lunch — the smiles around our table said it all. If you’re anywhere near Placerville, you must stop by Old Town Grill. Amazing food, wonderful people, pet-friendly hospitality, and a truly memorable atmosphere. Highly, highly recommended! 🍔💛🦜🐶
Excellent Gluten-free choices. Great food, service, in downtown Placerville. We will definitely return on our next visit to the town. Soup was very good and burgers were perfect and reasonably priced.
Delicious. I got the pastrami burger and Swiss with grilled onions. Fantastic hamburger. My side was grilled veggies. I recommend the grilled veggies. Very good. Service was great. Cashier friendly and helpful. Server was nice and efficient.
We had a very nice meal at the Old Town Grill. The counter staff was over the top friendly. The owner came out and chatted with us more than once. They even came out to check on refills, which is not normal for a grill with no table service. The place looks nice and lived in like a place with Old Town in it's name should. The service was fast friendly and tasted good. The burger was a little closer to well than I would have liked, but they serve wild meats (elk, buffalo, wild boar were on the menu) so perhaps that's a precaution. Great friendly place to grab a bite and have a chat.
Pesto grilled chicken sandwich was wonderful BUT the Thompson blue cheese waffle fries possibly the best side I've had in years. The place is adorable and as eclectic as most of Placerville. Owner and staff were equally wonderful. The complimentary after meal macaroon after our meal put a lovely bow on the whole experience.
A friend and I plus our two girls came in for lunch this afternoon. This was my first visit here and I was honestly a bit overwhelmed by the menu selection because everything sounded delicious; we probably stood there for a good ten minutes before we decided on what to order! I ordered the Beast Burger with a side of grilled veggies and my daughter got a Small Cheeseburger with a side of fries and we shared a Strawberry Malt, while our friends ordered a Chicken Dijon Sandwich and her daughter got a John Studebaker's Wheel and they shared a Mint Chip Milkshake. Both of us were super satisfied with our orders and had no leftovers (except our kids). 😅 Everything came out hot and all at once. Before we even finished our meals, a server came by to give us all a complimentary piece of chocolate or cookie! The service was *impeccable* from the second we walked through the door to the moment we stepped back outside, and every single employee was so friendly, personable and helpful. The atmosphere was definitely fitting of its name, whimsically themed and well-kept. We chose the window seats so we could people-watch, but there was more seating in the back area with a wall heater burning hot (it was a really cold day). There's even a birdcage that usually contains a parrot but sadly it wasn't there today. We will definitely be back here again and again!!!
We stumbled upon this spot on our drive from Tahoe to SF and absolutely loved it. We got the chicken salad, salmon sandwich, and elk burger. Everything was cooked incredibly, the salmon was delicious with crispy outside and juicy inside and the burger was done perfectly as well. Loved the garlic curly fries as well - overall a very reasonably priced lunch! In addition to amazing food, the staff and chef/owner were so warm and welcoming with some of the best service we’ve had anywhere. They were so attentive and friendly and even gave us cookies for dessert! Truly the best little spot we could’ve lucked into on our drive today, and we definitely look forward to returning the next time we’re out this way.
This place deserves 5 stars all the way around! Great friendly service and tasty food made right. The cake topper is the prices are fair. Thanks for continually serving the community Old Town Grill!!
Delicious lamb and elk burgers, medium rare. Perfectly cooked. Super friendly locals place. We stop here on our way through town. Try it you'll love the food.
Great spot. The owner/chef, all the employees are super friendly, service is great and the food is good! The owner stops at all the tables and interacts.. definitely worth eating here. Prices are as expected these days..
Really good burgers, best I had in the US
Folks, this is by far the best burger place I’ve been to in California — but it’s more than that. Old Town Grill is a true grill spot that captures the spirit of Placerville and the Sierra foothills. After walking the historic streets of Old Town, with Gold Rush buildings standing quietly against the hills and the crisp foothill air all around, stepping inside feels warm and welcoming. The aroma from the grill hits you first — savory, rich, and comforting. This is one of the rare restaurants that actually gets better over time. The owners and staff are kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Owner John is a good man who treats both employees and customers like family, and that spirit shows in every visit. Their menu goes far beyond burgers. They offer a variety of options including bison, elk, and lamb burgers, hot sandwiches, and fresh salads. You’ll find garden, Caesar, and a chicken fruit salad featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables, so it changes slightly with the seasons. All ingredients are locally sourced and organic whenever possible. Nothing here tastes industrial or mass-produced. Even the details stand out — Zoe’s gluten-free rolls are excellent and thoughtfully chosen. Grab a meal here after exploring the American River, hiking nearby trails, or cruising the winding foothill roads, then step back out into the cool mountain air with a full stomach and a slower pace of life. If you’re a local, you already know how special places like this are. If you’re visiting Placerville or traveling through Gold Country, do yourself a favor and stop in. I would highly recommend Old Town Grill to anyone in California and beyond.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. We went to Placerville for the day and there is so much mining history! This restaurant was mine themed in the bathrooms which was pretty cool. The server was very plesant and was all smiles. I got the veggie burger and the wife got a bacon shroomery cheeseburger. Our children split chicken fingers and a cheeseburger. Everything turned out great and we will return next time we are in town
I popped in for an early lunch and to my surprise this little place is big on atmosphere and taste. I ordered the Soul Burger with Garlic Curly Fries and everything was cooked perfectly and wonderful seasoning and flavor. The staff was extremely attentive and polite. I highly recommend for a good old fashioned Hamburger with Small Town feel.
Stumble upon this place just wandering Placerville. The service is INCREDIBLE! BEST PLACE I HAVE EVER GOTTEN SERVICE. I had the mushroom burger and it was good, but the curly fries, were GREAT I could eat just awhole plate of curly fries

Good food, AMAZING service and milk shakes to boot. Our new favorite burger joint downtown
Lovely hometown feel, with great food and service. I was even given a chocolate treat at the end of the meal!
This place has weird hours (11-15) and it may be hard to visit while they are open when going to/from Tahoe. It's worth the effort as the burgers taste great. I had the beast this time, but plenty of other choices including some vegetarian.
Amazing specials and service, food tasted immaculate and portions were perfect! Everyone I talked too was super nice and very friendly. If you're in Placerville, don't forget to hit this spot!

This place is quaint and has really good food. We got there when it opened to ensure they would not be sold out of elk burgers. Hubby got the elk burger. It was really good, not over-cooked and good size. I ordered the burger le Paz. It had onions and Ortega chili's, but was sold out. Ended up ordering the soul burger that came with slice hot link on it. It was real good, but I think next time I will be specific to leave some pink in the middle. My burger was a little over done for me. We also ordered the snow shoes which were waffle fries with blue cheese crumbles and chili oil. Were really good. Hubby ordered a vanilla shake and that was not too thick that couldn't use a straw. Really good! We also got a cup of the clam chowder and that was the best! Homemade and so flavorful. Should have gotten a bowl! They have dining in our outside seating and the service was outstanding! Will be back. Hopefully they will have the other burger to order.
Sunday early lunch. Order in front and seat yourself in the dining area or outside on the shaded patio. I had the stuffed hamburger and was fine with it. Large variety of sides. GF had the chicken. Nicely fried pounded breast and fries. She loved it. Bottomless drinks. Our server Evie was a delight.

The Patio ambiance was amazing including a pet parrot. People were super super nice either they're Mormons or Jehovah witnesses. The food was lack lustre at best. Hardly any garlic on the garlic fries and I ordered the hot dog which came on a hamburger bun and they don't have condiments other than ketchup. I don't know I think $15 for a hot dog and curly fries without garlic on them when you're ordering garlic fries and a drink is outrageous. It's a cute idea.
