It's hard to find great Chinese food, but this place has it. Super yummy and lots of it. The family owned restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. The decor is typical, the service fast and friendly.
My favorite Chinese restaurant, and I drive a long way to get there. The food is always fresh and cooked to order. The meal comes quickly, and the servers couldn't be nicer.
Great food... Bbq Pork fried rice was amazing. The fact that the attention to flavor was great. Many restaurants don't bbq Pork anymore. Egg rolls were delicious . Family owned atmosphere. Plenty of fresh food.. Simple and worth it.
Thus place was a share from a friend, and just because they were somewhat hidden and unknown to me locally, I was slightly hesitant to venture inside knowing how picky I am to new things especially meets and on top of that being a foreign food. He promised me I wouldn't be disappointed, and let me tell you he was not wrong. Our food was out in less than 5 minutes which blew my mind. Freshly cooked extremely hot made to order and the staff which I would guess was a family husband and wife team was probably the most hospitable set of hosts I have experienced in quite some time. They were very friendly and extremely generous in their portions as a whole, and were very open to modifications which is nice for picky eaters like myself. I am not surprised that they remained open during the pandemic and limitations, as I am sure this place is extremely busy on any given normal day. I am sorry I have not known about them sooner. Impeccable as far as food and service, a must go recommendation! Thank you kindly to the owners of this restaurant, as they are exceptional in what they are offering and how they treat their guests. Well done!
OH MY GOODNESS! I have been going to Chef Choy for 3 years and I just tried the Chefs specialty (General Tsao's Chicken with the Beef Chow Maine). Absolutely delicious.the General Tsao's Chicken is sweet, with a little bit of spice with some other flavors. These people are just great. Thank you for your great food and great customer service.
The owner was very nice to come to each table and make sure that the food was great and the service was off the chain this is my new go to spot
This place is awesome, been coming here for a long time. They have the best Honey Walnut Prawns!
The food is excellent, by far the best Chinese food I've tasted!! I would recommend everything on the menu. The family that owns the restaurant is wonderful and so attentive and the service is excellent. The place is clean and well-kept, but it could use a face lift. This in no way, hinders your experience there though!!
Had family from out of town the day after Christmas. Nine of us total for dine in. Checked vaccination cards for all. Seated us in a nice room. Food, as always was delicious. Had a variety of dishes and all were tasty. This place never fails....
Authentic Chinese cuisine cooked with respect for requests. We spent $117 for a bottle of Chardonnay, eggdrop soup, tomato beef chow mein, mixed vegetables, brown rice and an exceptional sauté fish. The fish was how great? I dislike fish but I have had it twice here! How delicious was it all? I left a 25 %tip. We always have leftover food but this time the 3 of us ate everything!
I was in town visiting my mom’s work and ended up at this restaurant for lunch. They gave us a warm welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. I liked the friendly warm welcome. Mongolian beef was bomb served with soup egg roll and choice of rice. Their walnut prawns are also amazing. I don’t mind going back again. I highly recommend people to visit this place once coz I can guarantee you will end up visiting again! ❤️
After trying almost every Chinese restaurant in the area over many years and losing some good ones along the way, we were pleasantly surprised by some of the best (take out) food ever. From the woman taking my order to the man at the front when I arrived to pick up, everyone was friendly and helpful. Best hot and sour soup in ages. You could actually taste both the hot and the sour! We will be back.
Food's wonderful! I would recommend anybody to come here. Bring your families. Bring your friends really good.
Amazing! Went off the reviews. Everyone raved about the Mongolian beef which I normally don't like. Chef Choy makes the ONLY Mongolian beef I've ever tried and loved! The portions on the lunch special are huge. My container was overflowing! I haven't seen that since the early 2000s. So tasty! Highly recommend!
First the staff- very welcoming and polite. Service is fantastic and we never have a long wait. The restaurant- clean and not as crammed together as other places. The food- this is literally the only real Chinese food place that my family eats at. Everything is hot and fresh, every time. My favorites are the shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour pork!
It’s incredible, I’ll let the pictures show how delicious- and it’s take out this time! Dishes are Mongolian beef, and a beef chow mein. I order quite often for take out, and love the pot stickers and many other dishes on the menu. Large portions, packed with care. The inside is also lovely with big comfy booths and wonderful table service. Really a treat to enjoy whether you eat in or take out.
Always good service, and excellent food! The hot and sour soup is my favorite! Along with the Mongolian beef, chicken with vegetables, and the prawns as an appetizer with the sweet and sour sauce is amazingly delicious! The last picture shows general tsaos chicken which is breaded. All portions shown are from the lunch special (the last picture) which also include a vegetable roll as shown in the last plate.
Best Chinese food that I have had in a while! Food came out quickly and it was very hot (still steaming). Will be coming back again!🙌🏻
One of my regular stops for prawns. These are specifically Chef Choy Prawns. Tons of garlic and flavor. I ask for extra spicy with extra garlic. I just love em!! If ordered to go than eating soon is essential otherwise sogginess will occur. Bomb pot stickers too!! Sticker sauce is original and heavy flavor

Love this place! My family’s go too! Food is delicious and service is excellent!
We went for lunch after hearing they were closing in June because their lease is not being renewed. The lunch menu was extensive compared to other Chinese lunch menus I've seen. All three of us ordered different things. 2 were pork and one was beef. All were nicely prepared. Lunch included fried or steamed rice, wonton, egg roll, hot and sour soup and one entree. We asked for tea and one person got apple juice.
Chef Choy has been a Pleasant Hill institution for over 30 years. Consistently great food, kind family owned, and a place so many of us grew up with. It’s heartbreaking that they’re being forced to close because Regency Plaza will not renew their lease. Our community deserves better than losing a beloved family restaurant this way. Chef Choy will always be five stars. Please share, speak up, and support Chef Choy. #SaveChefChoy #PleasantHill #PleasantHillEats #CommunityOverContracts #30YearsMatters
Been bring our family to eat here for over 26 years. Best Chinese food ever. Staff is amazing, food is so good. Thank you for helping us celebrate our daughters birthday.

Food was great! Got a couple of weird scallops, but everything else was fantastic. Good old school Chinese food.
We were there for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I think they must not do many big parties. The food was tasty but was not served all at once. Some had cooled by the time it was served.
Good food, decent prices, nice staff... Updated 10.15.22 - the establishment has changed owners, but some of the staff has stayed on... The menu does not look like it's changed which is good for those that love the old dishes. Interior is a bit sparse, but this may be early in their transition with an anticipation of sprucing up the place in the near future.
The service was really friendly and fast. The food was ok but didn't impress.
Great spot to grab a quick lunch. The salt pepper chicken was delicious and the house special fried rice is good not great. Portion size good enough for two people.

The chow mein and fried rice is good, i really liked the fried rice but it also might be because im pregnant lol we also ordered the sweet and sour chicken, i honestly dont recommend. The chicken was mushy and the sauce was to sweet. Couldnt finish that dish. Other then that, they are pretty good. As most restaurants, obviously youll get the pos and the neg but i also think it depends on the day and time you go . Would i order from here again? Yes

It was my first time here. the food was good, but make sure they get the order correct. Paid for extra chicken in my shrimp fried rice and didn't get any chicken
Went in for take out. The staff was super friendly. It smelled amazing inside. I got the honey walnut shrimp and it wasn't bad! It didn't have a strong flavor. The fried rice was pretty bland. The pot stickers were amazing! So looks like you need to be a local to know what food is best.
Service was spot on&food came out quick. Orange chicken was missing something but the sauce carried the orange flavor well. fried rice was well done. Sesame chicken? Was pretty good. Warmed it up the next day and, it was yummy. 3 big plates and a beer was about $45-47? Before tip. Good price for plenty of food. All in all, we had a good time. Not my favorite though. I know there’s different types of Chinese foods, I’m not sure which part this represented but it didn’t quite hit my taste right.
Went alone today and ordered a bowl of soup. The food tasted good and the service was good, but the boss forced me to leave a 15% tip. When I protested to him, he told me that this is American culture and waiters live on tips. If I didn't want to tip, I shouldn't come to the restaurant to eat. But when I saw the final bill, I found that the tip option was clearly at the end and should not be included directly in the bill along with the dishes. Frankly speaking, the waiters in the restaurant are nice, but the boss’s bad attitude is hard for me to accept.
Your typical Asian restaurant. Food was good and it stays busy. I noticed the customers are more on the elderly side. This tells me that it's comfort food and you won't get sick from bad food. 😉

Went here for lunch. Friendly staff. Clean. Food was okay. We ordered Schezuan beef and Kung Pao chicken. Lunch served with soup. Decent portions.

I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Very mediocre. Doesn't taste fresh, the sauce is good but chicken seems to be bland and dry, forcing the sauce to carry all the flavor. I aso purchase the walnut shrimp flavor profile is completely different from what I'm used to. Shrimp not crispy, overall dish not creamy and the sauce seems to be more savory than sweet. I only stop by being that it's so close to where I live. I don't see myself visiting this establishment again but I do recommend for others to try.

online prices are 5years old. every item is around 5$ more expensive in the restaraunt than priced online. great food, don’t mind paying it at all i love this place just update the pricing online please…
I sure wish I knew how the food tasted here, I left without eating. I don't think I've ever done that anywhere before. I read somewhere below that they recommended the Mongolian beef as it was "On point and fairly priced". Maybe for a lunch special? For dinner Mongolian beef was $15.95 plus $10 for fried rice if you wanted it with the meal. No rice comes with the dish. Maybe it's because I'm not from California and the prices are different here but that's just outrageous to me. I'll go somewhere else, and if it's similar over there I will delete this review. Very disappointed I didn't get to here.
Unfortunately, This was some of the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. The beef chow mein noodles were good, the sesame chicken was nothing but sauce, the kung pao chicken was so gross, I had to pick the chicken out of it, then use the vegetables and some chicken I had at home just to salvage the money I had spent. I do not recommend this place at all. They must use low-quality chicken.
I used to go here quite often, but haven’t been in a while so I decided to go. The staff are always friendly, I ordered sautéed green beans, bbq pork fried rice and vegetable chowmein.. my usual. The food was horrible, not sure what happened but I ended up throwing the food away. (39.00 down the drain)
The food was not good . I ordered bbq pork fried rice magnolia beef beef broccoli and skinny noodle chow main . The rice was half cook, broccoli was over coked and the magnolia beef tasted like the meat was boiled and not Stirfry I would not return. They need to do better.
Ordered from door dash, got orange chicken with a side of food poisoning- spent all night puking until 6 in the morning 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 AVOID
