We came here looking for a light bite and ended up splitting the BBQ chicken sandwich and it was incredible, so flavored and to drink a marionberry lemode that was so unique from other lemonade I've enjoyed. The vibes are fun and relaxed and the waiter so nice and friendly.

Wonderful flavors. We got the Caesar salad, garlic cheese bread, Detroit peperoni pizza, and deep dish meatball pizza.

Crazy pizza and salad lunch deal for $15. Beautiful place. Nice music. I had a Chicago style pizza and I think that was a cornmeal crust. For the lunch deal I think they bake the pizza without the tomato sauce and then they add a thick layer of delicious stewed tomatoes on top of it. Thankfully the stewed tomatoes are slightly less hot than the pizza, but at first I thought the pizza wasn't heated all the way through because the tomatoes on top were not as hot as I expected. There's no way they could bake the whole thing at lunch time that quickly if they a baked it with the sauce on top. Kudos!

Fresh, well done Detroit-style pizza. A Bay Area chain now in Portland. We tried The Star and the meat w/meatball combo...delicious. The Star one was a bit dry but really flavorful; we were told it would have a base sauce but it didn't have any. Didn't care for the bottled ginger drink, it's imported, too, but Portland has a local one way better and stronger. Beautiful restaurant with hints of art deco style, plants, pinball, and good music. We'd come back to try the deep dish and other cool ingredient combos.

We were walking by with a grumble in our bellies and caught a whiff of wonderful food. So we popped in and discovered a very fine Caesar Salad and super good personal pizza. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, with crunchy croutons the dressing was perfect. Our pizzas were very tasty. Plus the the way the food was presented and plated was artistic. A fine lunch on an awesome spring day.

Absolutely amazing experience! Had lunch here while exploring Portland and we LOVED IT! Brandon is an amazing server and bartender - an expert at crafting exquisite cocktails. With over 10 years of experience, he knows the importance of how to peel citrus so that the pith doesn't bitter the drink. The breadsticks are made with the Detroit style pizza dough. They are awesome, especially when dipped in their home-made red sauce. All our entrees were large portions and absolutely incredible. My Detroit style pizza is one of the very best I've ever had - and I eat a LOT of pizza. Lots of topping and the best red sauce I can remember. I'd love to take a jar of it home with me. The handmade meatballs were huge and very flavorful. The entire experience was OUTSTANDING and I can't wait to come back again!

Unbelievable deep dish, best outside Chicago. Great ambiance, killer appetizers. In a town flooded with excellent pizza now, the deep dish here is unmatched.

Great lunch spot in Portland. Wandering around the city today, my partner and I felt like having pizza for lunch so we stopped in The Star The staff are so friendly and helpful, we were seated right away. For a starter we ordered the Roasted Cauliflower with garlic, chili powder, parsley, parmesan, olive oil and lemon. Wow, the cauliflower was cooked until it was tender, not wet or soggy and full of flavor. Easy to eat the huge pile we received for a small serving. We also ordered a 12" thin crust pizza with the original tomato sauce with mozzarella. The pizza was about average. The crust was crispy and quite good, the tomato sauce was lacking in flavor and the cheese was very fresh and tasty. Overall, great lunch spot, great service and fun environment. Highly recommend.

My first time having a deep-dish pizza & it was divine! Love that, The Star has vegan options for deep dish pizza. The sauce makes the pizza & did not disappoint me at all. The garlic cheesy breadsticks weren't for me since they weren't vegan but my friends said they were extremely pillowy & the right amount of garlic!

So far, this is my favorite pizza place in Portland. I am not surprised, because Little Star is some of the best Pizza in the Bay Area as well. Didn't realize they were related at first, but they make extremely delicious pies. It's also reasonably priced and very filling. They don't skimp on the extras. The deep dish has a nice cornmeal crust. It's not as buttery as a proper Lou Malnati Chicago crust, but it's delicious. The sauce is the real star for me. They go above and beyond and make a full sauce, super garlicky and packed with flavor, but still keep the chunky tomato you expect on a good deep dish. They have amazing toppings as well. I absolutely love their cilantro heavy veggie pie. This location also is super cozy inside and has a full bar.

We have been craving Chicago style deep dish pizza for the longest time and finally found some here in Portland. The Star is a great place for drinks, appetizers and pizza. The atmosphere, decor is great inside and when sitting outside on the patio it’s just as great. The service was a bit slow only due to how busy it was but they were still on it. Don’t expect to order your food and get it right away because the deep dish pizzas take at least 40 minutes to make, but it’s SO worth the wait, especially with the delicious drinks and appetizers. I definitely would and will be going back for more to try other pizzas and I highly recommend The Star to anyone looking for pizza or deep dish pizza in Portland.

Another incredible pizza spot for when you get tired of NY style! The star boasts a cozy laid back vibe that is fit for everyone setting the stage for a delightful dining experience. The servers are prompt and attentive always checking in throughout the meal. The deep dish pizza is what they’re known for as they use high quality ingredients to create flavorful pizza. They have options to choose from or you can make your own! Each pizza is presented wonderfully for your Instagram needs. Their appetizers are numerous and we tried their cheese dippers which were great. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to try deep dish pizza and is looking for a great night out. They take reservations which is a huge plus! They were able to accommodate a large party of 10 with no issues.

Service - Amazing! They asked if it's our first time here, and it was. It was more like hospitality than service. Like visiting someones home and they cherished you as their guest. Atmosphere - again... Amazing! Very nostalgic music that really set the mood. You had very comfortable booths. Really nice ambiance. Food - One of the best deep dishes we ever had! And yes we've been to Chicago too.

We are able to be seated right away, staff was incredibly friendly and this place had great atmosphere. The food was WONDERFUL! Highly recommend.

We didn’t get any reservations, just walk in on Tuesday night and get sit right away. Very cool and modern vibe, the service is great and very fun Tuesday trivia. We got Tropicale and Sangira for drinks, refreshing goodness which is perfect for hot summer day. We got 12 inches deep dish haft meatball and haft pineapple ham for two. The homemade sauce is so good, I can stop eating. Very meaty and cheesy flavor for the meatball, I like the little chunk of pineapple, sour flavor go so well with the ham and the sauce. Highly recommended and definitely we will come back in near future

Wow. This pizza is a must-try!! So delicious, as well as our appetizer and my drink! We got there right after opening, so our pizza came out pretty quick and it was nice and quiet for a bit! The service was great and the food was magnificent! I will definitely be back to try more!

Really good quality food! We were a huge party of 12 and they were super quick and efficient with us in terms of service and wait times as well. We ordered a couple of deep dishes and they were super duper delicious. I would say having had the original deep dish they are not exactly the same (could be deeper) but the taste and flavour is spot on. Glad we came here and will be back again.

Been here twice in the last month, their deep dish pizza is to die for. The ingredients are good quality and their sauce on top is the right consistency. I stuffed myself with as much pizza as I could fit in my belly. Their cocktails are also really good and they have a decent beer selection. I love pizza and this place kills it. Definitely try them out!

We ordered the Caesar salad, Mediterranean thin crust pizza, a half bbq chicken and half Italian thin crust pizza, and drinks. Everything was very good and the pizzas and salad were large portions, plenty for 5 people. Additionally, the atmosphere was cozy-we sat by the fire-and the staff was friendly.

L

Quick stop before basketball practice. Boys loved their pizza. Their broccolini, cauliflower and fresh mozzarella were also delicious and flavorful. Service friendly and attentive and we were pretty much in and out. Would totally go back :)

The atmosphere was very inviting. The staff was very cheerful and knowledgeable about food allergies. The pizza was amazing for being GF as well as the salad. There is sadly no free beer. Ever

Great for lunch and happy hour. On the corner of the hip northwest neighborhood this place offers reasonably priced pizza and beer. Friendly service.

The Star offers a lot when you're looking for a place to relax and recharge. It's hard to even imagine this, but their Antipasti Chopped Salad took a serious run at being my favorite item on my visit. I never thought I'd say anything like this when pizza is involved. But, this salad tasted like a legitimately memorable Italian sub, minus the bread. It can't possibly be the healthiest salad you'll find, but I can't imagine one that tastes better. And the pizza was a standout - the thin crust had something that gave it a wonderful crunch - possibly semolina, or maybe cornmeal? Quality sausage, mushrooms and onions were, in my opinion, a perfect set of toppings. The beer selection wasn't huge, but there were plenty of non-IPA options for a people who like to avoid heavily hopped beers. All in all, The Star has atmosphere, pleasant and efficient service, great food, beer (and cocktails or wine, if desired) It's a charming place to spend some time.

I had high expectations for this place and boy did they deliver!! We had walked by this spot downtown in NW a number of times but never took the opportunity to stop by. We ordered takeout this weekend during our fun snow storm and it was the perfect meal. Ordering takeout was simple and pain free... the way it should be!! The only difficulty was choosing which delicious pizza to order!! They have a great selection of appetizers, salads, and pizza (deep dish and thin crust) we went with the chicken pesto thin crust and antipasto salad. Great choices!! Rich with flavor!! Upon picking up our order I was almost bummed we weren't dining in because it is a beautiful space. It was really nice, they had a designated takeout space with a heater and a refrigerator for takeout food. We will definitely be coming back and dining in!!

J
Joel Keralis

Food was great, pizza was loaded with toppings. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. Felt a bit like a generic "mid-tier" pizza place, but no complaints and would definitely go back again.

黃筱芸

Sooooo delicious, they have the best pizza here!!! I especially like the spicy sausage thin crust pizza. It’s not too oily but very very juicy and crunchy. The taste is also not too heavy for Asian. I strongly recommend this restaurant!

M

Very cool vibe, nice and friendly service. We didn't get to taste the thin crust, but the dip dish pizza was delicious. And, the appetizer, I mean, I could only eat the bread alone and not complain!

Ana & Chris True - True Homes

Excellent service, indoor and outdoor seating. They are practicing social distancing, you have to wear a mask until you sit down at the table. We ordered a Caesar salad and 2 large pizzas (monthly special- Wham Bam and Italian Combo, both were delicious) All 4 of us left stuffed and with some left overs. Nice experience in downtown Portland. Lemon drop martinis and blackberry cider beverages quenched our thirst and paired nicely with the pizza. Great atmosphere

We kicked it off with their amazingly flavored Cauliflower app. I've been seeing this featured on Yelp and IG. This is super packed with flavor and it's got some good heat on it. I have a high tolerance. But this was a great amazing taste and great texture. Just add that squeeze of lemon and it drives it to perfection. I really would eat this all the time. Tbh I need to steal the recipes because if all my veggies tasted like this I might become a vegetarian. What was great besides the awesome service and attention to detail from Amberlyn was the face that you can split a small pizza into two flavors. The Mediterranean pizza has chicken and artichoke hearts. The sauce was very good and savory and their crust is a crunchy texture. I almost wanted to check if this was a traditional wheat crust. But I haven't had deep dish in a while. The Star didn't disappoint. 5/5 def recommend. ;) But really I felt like The Meatball with the rich ricotta and sausage really stole the show. Paired with a hazy ipa and this definitely hit the spot. I don't think I could finish a small pizza on my own. It was that filling. I told my BF to bring me some cheesecake since it's right by his work. I can definitely see us going back soon.

J
Jaewook J

Amazing deep dish pizza! Crusty and soft, tomato sauce was slightly acidic but also rich in flavor. We tried the thin crust pizza as well, but “the star” of the place definitely is the deep dish pizza. The music over the place was louder than we would have preferred, the order for the drink at first was incorrect and we needed to ask for replacement, but otherwise it was a good dining experience.

The meal options are huge and I'm happy to have celebrated with my friends after making a reservation just a few days prior. Two extra guests were will accommodated and we loved the food and cocktails. Definitely good for groups or for an intimate lunch or dinner. I'm coming back for sure. Thank you, The Star Portland. See you soon!

This restaurant was a big 5 star for me. I am not sure why people gave the sauce a less than par review. It was some of the tastiest pizza sauce in town. I loved that there were 3 different options for pizza styles. I also loved the flavor of the deep dish crust. It was so different but in a great way ! The service was great too. Don’t miss it. Oh….the only thing I would say that could use some improvement is add a few more of the toppings. We got the lone star pizza and I think I found one tiny little mushroom in there. Maybe that’s by design in deep dish style? Didn’t take away from the quality of the pizza though.

Their happy hour is amazing. Personal size pizza with one topping was a great price. Pretty large bar top and tables behind for cocktail seating. TVs above the bar for watching a game. Will definitely return.

I order lunch from here pretty much twice weekly and I can't say enough good things about it. Their pizza is fantastic, but I especially like the meatball sub. Literally the best meatball sub I have found in Portland!

H
Henry Sowell

The absolute best pizza place in Portland. Then again, I'm biased because I'm from Illinois and Chicago-style is my favorite, but The Star have really perfected the Chicago-style pizza. Their thin crust is also good, but it's that Chicago deep dish that is the main attraction. If I didn't have to worry about gaining weight, I would eat here every day!

C
Chris Getsla

The pizza here isn't your average slice. Be prepared to get stuffed. We ordered three deep dish and struggled to get through three slices. The crust has a light cornbread taste. What's different is that the cheese is under the sauce. The sauce is hearty, savory and is the showcase of the pizza instead of the cheese. We'll most certainly be back.

A

We stopped here for dinner on a short trip from Minnesota and this place was delicious! We got a small deep dish classic pizza and we were extremely happy. We also happened to be there during happy hour so the pizza, appetizer, and 3 drinks were under $50 which was a delightful surprise. We would definitely go back if we are ever in the area again!

P

Great place for pizza with the family - good ambiance and clean restaurant. We ordered 1 deep dish and 1 regular thin crust pizza and shared. Kids first time trying deep dish and my son loved it! There’s a separate bar seating area with high top tables and TVs. The dining section had more comfortable booths and tables. Friendly service, would come back again!

It has been awhile since I came here. I saw that they had a lunch special and decided to check it out. $15 for a personal pizza and salad, which is a good deal in the Pearl area for lunch. I had the All-Star, which was primarily a meat pizza. The pizza was good and I even saved some for an afternoon snack.

M
Margaret Pinard

Food was delicious, atmosphere mid afternoon was nice and not too busy, and the lunch special is a deal! Only thing was gnats were congregating and one got in my food despite my shooing away. But look at this gorgeous mixed side salad! I can pick out a gnat. 😂

K
Kailey Grass

We ordered a deep dish classic and a thin crust with pepperoni and onion. I placed the order online and picked up on my way home for my family to enjoy. Best deep dish we’ve ever had in Portland hands down, however we had asked for the thin crust pizza to be well done and it came out pretty doughy in the middle. My mom is picky with her crust being cooked all the way through so she ended up having something else for dinner, but the rest of us did really like it. I would choose the deep dish over the thin crust, mostly because it’s not actually “thin” it’s just regular crust. Pretty good first experience, will try again and update my review if it’s better next time!

B
Brett Gottfried

On of the few places that does deep dish here in Portland. However, when I went I got thin crust, it was evenly spread and it got a nice crisp on the edges. I got The Star, the combination of items was good, but there was a lot of cheese which overpowered the other flavors though. Overall, I would go back, pretty good.

E
Em Avendano

Love the vibe. The service is super kind, not totally attentive, but that’s okay! The special is a really great deal, we split the thin crust pizza and each had a side salad, which was more than enough. I personally prefer their deep dish over the thin crust because I find it more flavorful, but both are great. Shirley temple gets an A+ too :) My only complaint is the bathroom situation isn’t the most sanitary. Nonetheless, an enjoyable experience.

S
Scott Shiigi

It's been a while since we have been to this place in our neighborhood. We had a Detroit style and thin crust pizza and enjoyed them. I believe when we were here last, they did not offer a thin crust pizza so it was nice to have a choice of style. They also offer a deep dish style with a cornmeal crust. The servers/bartenders were friendly!

J
J O (docj)

A very good (small) chain restaurant, with a decent selection f9 food offerings including good pizzas with a range of bases and you can "build your own". Nice range of drinks too, and very friendly attentive staff. Comfortable atmosphere, but definitely the sort of place you've been before. Prices seemed very reasonable.

R
Rosa Gutierrez

I'm kinda neutral on this spot.. nothing stood out to me for me to boast about. The place was nice, the pizza was good, the waiter did his job. We got the wings cuz they were supposed to be bomb. They were okay to me. Just one flavor to get 🤷. Maybe wrong day and time IDK. Maybe you'll have better luck.

K

Service was amazing we love our bartender. Bought 2 pizzas and we had high expectations due to being referred by friends, unfortunately the pizzas didn't hit we bought for our party and almost everyone didn't finish . Sauce no flavor and crust tomuch cornmeal. Otherwise atmosphere was great 👍

If you’re a really hungry don’t go please I wouldn’t recommend Deep Dish Pizza Because they would cook’s time a 45mins about deep dish pizza, but tasty and full. And Restrooms are filthy and gross. Restaurants had a great interior design, they had a game room but we saw the flies in facility. And My husband tried to order immediately after waiter’s showed us up. But he just got a drink order and very quickly gone. We need a straw for my youngest daughter’s lemonade. So my husband looked for that waiter but He got a lunch time and eaten something. And My husband knows you guys have a 45mins cooking time and My youngest daughter would hungry soon and cranky so why we want to order asap, finally We ordered a pizza to other person. Anyways We’re all working hard and I was working so hard we need a lunch break of course but if you want to lunch break don’t get a customer right before your break time. Not many customers in restaurant at that time. But something I have an awkward feeling from here. Foods are a pretty ok (actually I don’t like a deep dish pizza crust, it’s a corn bread and blanded)but not a professional serving.

Let me start by saying that I have not been looking forward to writing this review. I moved to Portland from San Francisco in 2020, and the Valencia St. location in San Francisco was one of my favorite pizza places in the city. So you can imagine how excited I was to learn that Star was opening a location in Portland. I have ordered my go to (deep dish, pepperoni and black olives) 3 times over Doordash since learning that I could. ALL THREE TIMES I have received literal garbage from this restaurant. I'm not entirely sure of what is being done wrong, but the pizzas I have received are not deep dish pizza. They are incredibly thin, and appear not to have cooked properly. The crust is crunchy on the outside, but completely raw and un-risen on the inside. To make matters worse, the tomato sauce soaks straight through this thin crust, leaving a wet, disgusting mess instead of a deep dish pizza. My best guess is that the staff are not allowing the dough to warm up prior to baking. As a result, ALL THREE TIMES, I have had to throw the entire pizza in the trash. I will not be ordering from this location again and I would highly recommend avoiding eating here unless you want to risk getting salmonella from raw pizza dough. Sincerely, A former fan
