Quick jaunt back to Barcelona 😉 That's how it felt. Wonderful! Pictured: anchovy toast, jamon croquettes, beet, mandarin and olive salad, bravas, bavette with chimmichurri, octopus and basque cheesecake ✌️
Food and service was great, they even when out of their way to cook this NY steak even when it wasn’t in the menu and it was delicious. I will definitely go back
I knew the Olympia Provisions empire stretched beyond their eponymous headquarters, but was still pleasantly surprised to see how far, while checking their website. Bar Casa Vale is the Spanish offshoot, and I'm thrilled to have paid a visit. First off, croquetas were spectacular - perfectly done. The octopus was among the top 3 I've ever had, anywhere. Patatas Bravas had just the right amount of seasoning, like everything else we tried here. All in all, the bar food here compares favorably with anything I've had, anywhere in Spain. The space is welcoming - with lighting that makes it easy to read the menu, while being subdued at the same time. Service was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient, without hovering.
If you're after some great Spanish tapas, definitely check out Bar Casa Vale. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The staff are kind and attentive. There's also a great drinks menu with a comprehensive list of Spanish wines and spirits.
A great tapas restaurant!! We went with 4 people and ordered 7 dishes, fried cauliflower, salad, potatoes, mussels, pork ribs, hanger steak, paella. All were so good (I didn’t have steak and pork, but my friends confirmed they were very good). Paella could have a little bit more rice but the crispy bottom was so good. Desserts were excellent too. Service was spot on the wine I chose was nice too. It has nice size parking lot. Seating areas are consistent of interior room and two attached domed area with plenty of heating. We sat in inside seats but domed area with fire was an another attractive choice. I will return to this restaurant in the future for sure.
Bar Casa Vale consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step in, the ambiance envelops you in warmth and relaxation. The customer service is impeccable, attentive yet unobtrusive. As for the food, it's a delightful journey for the taste buds, with every dish bursting with flavor and crafted with care. And let's not forget the drinks, which are as exquisite as they are diverse, perfectly complementing the culinary offerings. Each visit to Bar Casa Vale is a testament to their commitment to excellence in every aspect of the dining experience.
What a find! Fun fireplace seating all around, intimate indoor seating. Servers were professional, pleasant and attentive. Food was great! Gnocchi, Octopus, beef tartar were great. Radicchio salad was a little too bitter and overly cheesy. Wine selection was on point. Cream sherry was slightly acidic poet. Surprisingly delicious!
Honestly, some of the best food I’ve had recently. We had the cauliflower, bread with tomato, shrimp, blackened fish skewers, potato, and fish paella. Amazing! And coupled with the cocktails and sangria which were all next level. The atmosphere in the unique cabanas was awesome. The service was prompt, friendly and excellent. So much fun. Right back on the list to visit again!
BCV is a really great bar that also has a great chef working the kitchen. Everything we tried here was fantastic, the tapas menu is worth the visit alone. The service was first-class, and the patio is a really nice spot for late summer dining. Have returned here often and the menu is always changing, but thankfully retains some favorite gems. The tapas and pintxos are artfully prepared and consistently fantastic.
Bar Casa is the first place I go to when I hop off the plane. The food is superb, and the bartenders (I've only ever sat at the bar) are awesome. I'm a bit of a gin lover, and they have a ton. The food however, is the best part. There's always something new, and with ingredients that are comforting to see on a menu! I mean come on, charred octopus? I haven't ever seen that on a menu and it is my favorite thing. They have real Iberico ham by the ounce, although pricey why not? You only live once. This is my first time going on a Sunday and apparently it is paella night and boy was I not disappointed. The bottom wasn't a layer of crispy rice, but the sides were and for a restaurant that is way more than expected. Absolutely delicious. I'll be back before I leave Portland, and the next time I come back, this Bar Casa will be the first place I go to!
The meal last night was very tasty. You've done a great job 🥰 The staff is polite and they provide a wonderful eating experience! Thank you 🤩
Wonderful staff, food, and drinks. Made my Birthday a special one. Can't wait to come back and enjoy more of their delicious menu items. 😋
I don't know why we never heard of this place, but we stumbled upon it looking for a glass of wine. The food was excellent. We ordered the pulpo, which was the perfect texture, savory, and delicious and the patatas bravas, a classic Spanish dish. This was before dinner time for us, so we would love to order more at a later date. We got the Gin and Tonic and a glass of Rioja. Love this place already.
Great date night, great dinner night, great group night! Many choices for dietary restrictions, but more importantly, for those wanting to try something new, something unexpected, and something fun. Tapas rule and they especially rule here.
Amazing food: everything we ordered was delicious. Pan con tomate, croquettes, the corn, patatas braves… Excellent service, good wine, cozy next to the fire outside.
This place is always so great. Never a bad meal!
Food is fire, environment is beautiful but MOST important our server Tyler was a delight AND Taylor chased us down outside with our card when we accidentally dropped it. The people of Portland immediately request a raise for these two fine gentlemen. Also look at these scallops. Big yes.
Super enjoyable dinner! Sangria was refreshing and hit the spot. Highly recommend the shishito peppers, patatas bravas, cous-cous ensalada, the seafood paella…oh and can’t forget the basque cheesecake! A really nice experience with great service!! Awesome heated outdoor seating area!
This is the place. This is the place to catch up with your best friends. This is the place for some cocktails and delightful plates. This is the place to enjoy special occasions. We happened to be doing all of the above. I think we sat a table for over two hours and tried nearly everything on the menu, asking for cocktails and wine along the way. Tapas is always a good meal with friends and Bar Casa Vale rewarded us for choosing them over and over. Who knew I liked oysters - Bar Casa Vale did, that's why they serve them grilled over a wood fire and with compound butter. Who knew my (very worldly) friends would find the Pan con tomate so endearing we'd have to order it twice? The corn made my partner exclaim with joy that he never knew corn could be so special and I could happily have devoured all of the hand rolled cous cous with grilled brussels All the way along we had quiet, helpful, personable service that added to our delight. We are so so happy we decided to bring our four-way birthday hear.
We had the experience menu on New Year's Eve food and service was phenomenal. Portions were huge Staff was attentive without being annoying
The combination of food options is insane. We got mostly sea food and which I’m passionate about and I loved everything we got. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area. There’s a few nice places to check out but bar casa should be your first.
Yasss honey! Tapas done excellently. The presentation and the taste were awesome!! The pictures are from my third visit to this lovely find. I enjoy the sparkling sangria every time but since we were sitting at the bar I was able to see that every drink came out looking so....drinkable. And of course the service was excellent as well. A must try place.
The best bar/restaurant in town now does the best new brunch in Portland? Dangerous. We may have to move in. Sweet Jesus, their chicken and waffle… the waffle consistency is like a churro. Mind boggling good. In the evenings... Best sherry selection in Portland. Order the Gilda to accompany your Manzanilla. In time, eat your way through every dish on the menu. They are all phenomenal. If you want to go super indulgent, go for the lardo+uni (urchin). It’s an umami bomb of atomic proportions. We also love the moody atmosphere, lit by the beautiful wood hearth, and their incredible staff. Whenever we have indecision on where we want to eat dinner (brunch now too!) we default to Bar Casa Vale and are always happy we did so.
What an amazing dining experience. The drinks and the food are so well crafted. They compliment each other perfectly. Pulpo on point. Everything I put in my mouth was divine.
Delicious tapas, many vegetarian options, and many options to try Sherry wine! Great ambiance and service!
Delicious food, charming atmosphere, great cocktail menu, and friendly staff! Highly recommend. Side note: I accidentally left a jacket there, which the staff found and very kindly set aside until I realized my mistake and came to pick it up. I’m so appreciative!
Chef and food were both wonderful! Though I’m used to different grilled octopus - it was interesting to taste their version. I do wish they had a larger version of the grilled octopus. Otherwise, rest of the food were great!
We loved the experience! We went to this restaurant for our friend’s birthday and chose the chef’s tasting menu, which meant we didn’t have to decide on each dish—the chef created a beautiful course from appetizers to dessert. Everything was delicious, and the portions were just right. I especially appreciated the variety of small, family-style tapas dishes. We really enjoyed the octopus—so flavorful and perfectly cooked! A wonderful evening all around.
Honestly if I could rate it higher I would. We went in Halloween night and the were incredibly accommodating. The plating was top notch, and the flavors combinations were expertly paired.
We shared 4 dishes among 3 people. All were delicious and we were very full by the end. We had the cauliflower, shrimp, and potatoes with trout for the big share. Our server went out of the way to make sure we enjoyed our wine options. The only downside was it a bit warm in the restaurant on a 90 degree day, but maybe that's part of the Spanish experience.
Great location for delicious Tapas and Spanish wine. Service was prompt and friendly as well! The woodfired oven gives Old World flair and the industrial style keeps the ambience classy and moody for either a romantic evening or an outing with friends.
The portions are small, even the non-tapas menu, so I ordered a large variety of items. Unfortunately I wasn't too impressed with many of them, particularly the ribs, which were blander than I expected. The standouts were the mushroom rice and the squash blossoms. Both had an excellent balance of flavors. But the desserts are where this place shines. I ordered one of each available, and all three were phenomenal. The chocolate cake was probably the best I've ever had. It was heavenly.
They have amazing bartenders and the service was excellent. They custom made a cocktail, tweaking it slightly to fit the taste preference. Also they have delicious appetizers and main dishes. The beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly! I highly recommend stopping by and getting a gin cocktail and a few tapas.
My family dined here after a long day on the road. The service was friendly and professional, most of the dishes were superb, and the wine selection and cocktails were wonderful. The only disappointment here was the paella. My husband lives and breathes paella. It’s probably in his top five favorite dishes. We’ve planned days around tiny Spanish restaurants that happen to serve it. We’re accustomed to walking in the door and ordering it immediately with the understanding that it can take around an hour to prepare traditionally. This is acceptable to us because to my husband paella is love and happiness, and he can wait for it to be done well. The Paella we received today at Bar Casa Vale was disappointing. The proteins in the dish were very well done and delicious (shrimp, quail, sausage), but the rice itself was crunchy and obviously undercooked. We had some reservations when ordering the dish, as the server told us that it only took 20-25 minutes to prepare rather than the usual 45 minutes to an hour. We’ve however had “rushed” paella in the past that wasn’t amazing, but still very good. What was served to us at Bar Casa was just disappointing. I wish my husband had ordered a different main. Again, outside this one dish supper was fantastic. The tapas and mixtos were lovely, my entree steak was delicious. Just don’t come here for paella if you have a relationship with the dish.
Beautiful food, beautiful space, great cocktails. We said we were there for cocktails and snacks but felt quite pressured by staff to order more. They came back and checked in too many times and pressured us to order more food, felt quite awkward about it as we were already spending quite a bit and not all of our friends were hungry. I don’t think I’d come back for just cocktails but I would for dinner. A shame about that pressured service. Food was delicious. I love love loved the shrimp.
We sat at the bar and ordered the “and so on” cocktail and a beer, the atun crudo, the gildas, and the octopus. The atun crudo was my favorite. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was great!
Good happy hour. Everything was good, although we didn't like the sardine for 8 dollars. It was a small portion and was a bit bland. The potatoes bravas were the star of the menu. I've been to spain a few times, and I liked these bravas better then all the places I've eaten in Barcelona. I'd go back here just to order them and a beer, then sit in the patio area and chat with friends... Just like we did in Spain.
Enjoyed it very much overall but didnt think the flavors were exciting or new. Very enjoyable to have a nice night out and be social. Thet have a patking lot and good street parking opportunity
Pulpo a gallega ⭐⭐⭐✨ - have had better octopus - liked that it wasn't chewy tho ❤️Grilled pork cheeks ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - loved the black garlic puree and goat cheese - best value for flavor - good mixture of flavors ❤️Cous cous ensalada ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - bright and delicious - brussel sprouts are not bitter Costillas de Jerez ⭐⭐⭐✨ - really soft but not blowing my mind for the price and amount ❤️Patatas bravas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - it's what you'd expect if you've had patatas bravas before - love how crispy it is Seafood paella ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - would reorder - not overly salty - loved the burnt crispy bits at the bottom
Patatas bravas were great, especially with Estrella Damn beer, and paella. The pork belly is for sure an acquired taste I wasn’t prepared for, the presentation and atmosphere 10/10 loved it.
Very romantic setting, the paella was not crisp on the bottom. The choice of wines is good, with many spanish options.
Very good food and very nice place and service. But the recipes are not the original from Spain. Even do, recommended
Went to Bar Casa Vale last night and really enjoyed the overall experience. The vibe is honestly the best part. great music, cozy but stylish atmosphere, and just really good energy in the space. It’s perfect for drinks and small plates. I’d especially recommend it for couples. This place feels like a guaranteed solid first-date spot. Food was overall very good, and you can tell there’s care and intention behind the dishes. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but it matches the quality and ambiance. One small downside one of the fish dishes tasted slightly more “fishy” than I expected. Also, the meat felt a little overlooked and slightly gummy in texture. Not bad by any means, just not as strong as everything else we tried. Parking is a little limited, so keep that in mind.
Bartender was great. Very attentive and really good cocktails. Atmosphere is also really nice. Especially the fireplace. However, the food is a different story. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the dish, but it was some kind of raw fish (maybe yellowtail). The $17 plate was nicely decorated, but it had 5 microscopic slices which if you added back together, you might have ended up with 1 slice of sushi. The fish had a crunchy bone in it, and the taste was average. When I pay $17 for half a portion of Sushi, I expect a lot more in quality. The bartender offered to replace the dish, which was very nice of him, but it was time for me to leave. I will come back with the hopes that this will be improved. ☺️
Very disappointing experience. We booked the Paella Feast for a special event, and despite our server's best efforts, the evening was a huge disappointment. The kitchen was completely dysfunctional. Our courses were delayed and came out of order. The paella was burnt, and the protein was skimpy, a small piece of chorizo and a few pieces of chicken for our party of four. I would not recommend this experience and will not return.
We have been here at least 6 times since 2021, and this was the first time I was massively disappointed. The service was very good. But there are many issues with the "new" menu. The cauliflower is now bone dry, and the citrus is overwhelming. Our friend commented that it tasted like cleaning detergent. The pan con tomate was nothing like the original. It was thin bread with really watery tomatoes, so it was horribly soggy. It was a tiny portion for $8 or $9. There has not been paella for a while. They have these small dishes and we had one previously with mushrooms but it was very pricey for a small vegetarian dish. The other thing is that the tip is included, and there is a service charge on top, so it's 24% auto gratuity. I don't mind (service a good), but I'm just pointing that out. We went to Scotch Lodge for dill fries and fried brie after. Four of us who had been there so many times and none of us enjoyed the food revamp.
I Am not sure if it is inflation, or a change in management or what, but we used to love this place and sadly last night was our last visit to this, the staff is great, super polite and fun, the ambiance is ok but little by little their menu has become a deception, they call it “Octopus” but they should call it “tentacle” since that is all you get, 1 tentacle cut into 6 pieces, the delicious anchovies are now just 2, not three like it used to be, it is all super small portions, the prices have increased way above the increase of inflation, they now charge a 20% gratuity in advance that I don’t mind paying IF things were as good as they used to, super disappointed.
Sat at the bar alone. Wanted to love this place. Took 15 min for someone to come ask me what I wanted. I ordered the pork filet and was told it takes 45m to cook. Why the hell is it on the menu?! Ordered the crudo which was super fishy and so acidic it burned. Waited another 15m for someone to bring me the check. Won’t be back.
As a Spaniard, this is a really bad experience on Spanish food. Croquetas were so salty you could have a heart attack, same with pan and tomate. Exactly the opposite with the peppers, they needed some salt on top. Octopus is good but sooo overcooked. And the seafood paella... It wasn't burned Spanish socarrat style, the actual pan was so burned that you could only taste the iron, and the "black" rice was only black on top, how is that even possible! Very negative experience, if you understand Spanish food.
Absolutely over hyped. We ordered the croquettes, patatas bravas, vegetable skewer, scallops, the grilled octopus, and the sangria. The sangria was the best item of the meal. The salsas/sauces for each dish were under seasoned, the root vegetables were undercooked. There was no stand out flavor. Lower mid tier at best. The croquettes tasted like freezer burn. Just so bad. The server also rushed us out even though we had a reservation and there was no disclosure as to a maximum dining limit- why even show us a dessert menu if you’re going to rush us out 10 seconds later (seriously counted how long it took her to return after dropping off the dessert menu). This was a one and done for us.
