I celebrated my birthday at The George on Washington and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is great, the food was wonderful and the service was even better.
Kelsey was a wonderful vibrant young lady that gave great customer service! Will definitely be back soon!
We visited on Saturday the lighting festival, and were looking for any dine in. It was the nearest place. The staff was extremely nice and courteous. There was live old music inside in a separate room. The interior is nice too. There was no kids menu, so we ordered for kids from the regular menu. The food was delicious. The waiter was very nice, you can see that they really care about their customers. And the Banana cream pie for desert was the best ever.
We went to The George for Thanksgiving dinner. It was wonderful! Our server Eddie made the meal all the more special. From the Point Judith calamari to the delicious desserts, everything was fantastic.
The statler chicken breast was cooked perfectly, and it tasted sooo good! 👌 Everything else was pretty good too! Atmosphere is very nice, piano/music. My 2nd time here. I will return, and I recommend!
We dined at the George on Thanksgiving. The inside is beautiful, the wood work and gold trim was elegant. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server was EJ (same as our son) he was very attentive. The pictures I took don't do the food justice because we ate most of it before I took a picture. The mozzarella is made fresh everyday. The sauce is delicious. It was a special Thanksgiving menu and our 3 year old specifically said he did not want turkey for dinner. The chef made him the tenders and waffle fries. He was so happy when he saw they were waffle fries!! My husband and I both got the chicken parm with rigatoni. The owner also came over to every table and said hi and thanked us for dining in. The prices were very reasonable. We can't wait to dine again.
The place is really cute! It’s the old Local 121 location so it’s still beautiful stained glass windows etc. the bar side is sooo gorgeous. we came for the Sunday brunch. He ordered the George Breakfast which was just classic eggs, toast, homefries, ham but it was perfect. I had the eggs Benedict… It wasn’t my favorite…. I would probably try something else next time instead. The owner came out to speak with everyone and introduced himself and asked how we liked things and told us about the place. I want to come back for dinner because it’s really cute and romantic imo but I didn’t like what I ordered and I wouldn’t recommend the eggs Benedict. There’s minimal parking but a clean restroom and Wi-Fi (but it wasn’t working when I came)
We just ate here recently to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and had a wonderful time! The food was absolutely delicious, we both enjoyed a dish with the braised short rib. While the food was fabulous, the real standout of the night was the excellent service that we received. We had a very attentive and friendly waitress named Alyssa. After I had mentioned to her that we were attending the stand-up comedy show downstairs in the bar area after dinner, she offered to box up our leftover dinners and save them in the kitchen fridge for us! We really appreciated the kind gesture. Thank you all very much for a lovely evening out! We will be back!
Six of us were in town for two days and we all agreed we would have eaten every meal here had we the opportunity. The atmosphere, exceptional service, and amazing food made for a wonderfully memorable evening. The icing was listening to the beautiful voice we could hear sing while she played the piano in the bar. Exquisite.
Always great times at the George. Rob Marin was singing and the food was wonderful. We especially appreciate our server tonight Dan Ortiz. Fantastic evening!
Celebrated a birthday party. Easy parking services/free valet unless you’re staying late for speakeasy, $5. We were treated like VIP from start to finish per the restaurant order and our server/Dan. Food and drinks were delicious. Fairly priced. Seating was spacious for the 12 of us. A table was set up for us down stairs for speakeasy. The comedians were ok. The headliner/Alex was disrespectful and not funny at all. Half way through his skit we all left. We’d never pay to watch him. The others were ok though.
The venue is gorgeous!! The restaurant was built in 1917, as a hotel. The woodwork in the bar is stunning!! Not only will you be surrounded by a gorgeous atmosphere, the food is excellent!! This restaurant never disappoints!!
Fantastic! From the food to the service to the decor...what a great place. On the pricey side, but well worth every penny. They have great deals on Monday and Tuesday. The bar and bar area are very comfortable and they have a live piano player. Cannot believe I have not tried this place before.
Go and ask for Miguel as your sever. Don’t forget to order the focaccia bread— the cinnamon butter changed my life. A perfect date night. Great cocktails. Fun was had!
Was looking for a new place to visit on a Saturday night. This place was excellent. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Our server was informative about the menu and took very good care of us. You definitely get an "old school service" vibe which you dont see anymore. They dont rush you and the entire wait staff checked in on us the entire night. Excellent resteraunt and highly recommend.
First time at the Restaurant. The food was amazing as was the atmosphere. I only gave 4 stars for the service, which was very good, except the bartender, yes we sat at the bar, didn't mention the 1/2 price bottle of wine night (my husband and I are wine snobs) nor did he mention the specials. When I brought it to his attention, he kind of brushed it off. Would we return to this restaurant? Absolutely! But I guess you have to ask for specials.
From the start, we had a great evening, the host was very welcoming and sat us immediately. I had dinner here with my fiancé and we had the absolute BEST service from Alexia. She was very welcoming and very knowledgeable. Will definitely come back for the service and the amazing food. The surf & turf was my wives favorite. The French onion soup was delicious. Will be back before a show night.
All of the staff at the George are amazing! I had my wedding reception here, as well as my afterparty in the downstairs speakeasy. The food was delicious, they set up my dinner guest tables exactly as I had wanted them to, right down to the napkin folds, guestbook table and bar menus. My husband and I have gone to the George for dinner on many separate occasions and almost all of the staff that worked our wedding remembered us, offered us well wishes and told us how happy they were to be a part of our day. I was able to put my full faith in Katelyn the event manager, and get to just enjoy my evening as a bride instead of worrying about minuscule details. I will always recommend the george!!!
Awesome experience. Great service. Love the atmosphere. Jodie was awesome and a great waitress. Very attentive and simply the best. Even the owner came to check on us asking if we enjoyed our meal. Love it.
Our first time at The George was wonderful! Our server Jodie was great and the food was top notch. Cool atmosphere and the live music in the bar area was a nice touch, especially around Christmas.
I walked into the bar, uncertain of what to expect. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a super friendly and attentive bar tender named Kelsey. She had a brilliant Rhode Island accent. She made the best old fashion I have ever had. I would 10/10 recommend coming to this place.
Very good food. Stuffed mushrooms were amazing. Onion soup was not the best. Pork chops were delicious but could have put a vegetable with it. Jody was great, very pleasant and attentive.
First time at the George, we arrived early so sat at the Bar waiting for our table reservation. Tayla and Micheal gave us phenomenal service so we decided to stay seated at Bar for dinner. Both were friendly, attentive and really went above and beyond to provide overall great service. We will definitely be back to visit, loved it!!!
We had a great dinner this evening. Drinks, apps, dinner and dessert were all fantastic. Dan is a great server, super friendly and attentive. There was live music in the lounge area and the owner played piano between sets. Lovely experience, we’ll definitely be back!
We went here before a Providence College basketball game and sat at the bar. Love, love, love the atmosphere, food and service. Tayla and Lily were amazing. We will definitely be back soon!
Lovely setting and good sized portions of tasty food. Excellent service from Lily. Only quibble was noise level in bar area. Music could be turned down a little so diners can more easily converse.
We love coming to The George and having brunch at the bar with Lily! She’s a great bartender and fun to chat with. All the other staff that comes by the bar are great to talk to as well. Food, drinks, and the atmosphere are lovely!
We stopped by for dinner and what a pleasure The atmosphere is beautiful, our server Madison offered excellent suggestions from wine, to app, to the perfect martine. The food was delicious and just a short walk to the PPAC. After our show we actually went back to enjoy a nite cap and were fortunate to grab seats at the bar. Tayler is a wonderful bartender! We were so impressed by the mgr Shawn, who is very hands on and very fun to chat with. This restaurant is perfection and the excellent staff enhance the food and architecture.
Absolutely amazing experience at The George. The food was incredible, everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. On top of that, the service was outstanding. Eddie was the best server we’ve had in a long time: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We never felt rushed out the door and were treated like family the entire time. Great food, great service, and a place that truly makes you want to come back.
Whenever we go to Trinity Rep we always have dinner at The George, which is just around the corner. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, as are all of the staff. The food and drinks are expensive but definitely worthwhile. They also have less complicated fare like burgers. Make a reservation early. We park at the nearby Civic Center Garage but there are many places to park. Use a parking app like SpotHero to save a spot at the best price. Easy to get to from Route 95 in downtown Providence.
We came for dinner prior to seeing the Pops Christmas Concert. We picked the restaurant for its location, but was so pleasantly surprised by what an amazing choice that we made. Our waiter, Dan, was so attentive, but not overbearing. The food was so good. I had the veal marsala andy husband had the pork chop. We both said that it was the best meal that we had in a long time. The drinks are also really good. A wonderful night in a Providence and we are already looking forward to coming back again sooner than later. Highly recommend
This place is the real deal! Make sure to ask for Alyssa — she’s absolutely amazing. She made sure our bottomless mimosas were never empty, and her service was impeccable. Super attentive, friendly, and truly made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back! 🍾🥂
We were literally welcomed off the street—the manager saw us through the window, stepped outside, and personally guided us in. That level of care set the tone for the night. Eddie was an incredible server: knowledgeable, personable, and clearly experienced. The food was all from scratch and it showed—high-quality comfort classics with creativity and intention. Warm, thoughtful, over-the-top hospitality from start to finish. Five stars.
The George absolutely delivers. From the moment we sat down, the experience was dialed in. Our waiter, Eddie, was outstanding.. attentive without hovering, genuinely friendly, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. He made great recommendations and paced the meal perfectly. We started with a couple of burrata-style appetizers that were phenomenal.. fresh, rich, and balanced. For mains, we went with steaks, and they were cooked flawlessly.. excellent sear, tender, and full of flavor. You can tell the kitchen takes real pride in execution. If you’re dining at The George, ask for Eddie and come hungry because you won’t be disappointed. We’ll absolutely be back.
Jodie was absolutely phenomenal. Before I even had a moment to consider what I needed she already had everything ready for my family and I. She was very kind. The food was beautiful as far as presentation and tasted even better than it looked. The atmosphere was a gorgeous olden era type of theme. Very classy and cozy. I will definitely be back with my fiancé!
Went there for Thanksgiving dinner. We split a Turkey Dinner and Seafood Fra Dioblo. Both dishes were excellent. Fresh and flavorful. Just the right amount. Service was friendly and professional. One of the owners, Alex, came around to all tables to make sure everybody was happy. Nice touch. Go there!
Amazing service by Lily at the bar! Owners/management were far more than hospitable! What a handsome room! Learned that there is live piano music every Thursday which is also a great draw. Can't wait to come back!
First time ever in my years of living, decided not to cook and go to a restaurant for Thanksgiving. What a great choice picking The George. Cannot say one negative comment. The turkey dinner was perfect with the most delicious stuffing. Our waitor, Miguel, was 5 stars too. One of the owners, Alex, going table to table was also a nice touch.
Saturday night in December, walked in and sat 30 min ahead of our reservation. Our server, Jackie, was awesome. We ordered Thai chili calamari, mussels, veal scallopini and shirt ribs. TmApps and meals came out in an appropriate time. Meals were good. Short ribs were a bit tougher than I expected. Drinks were strong. Live music at 7pm. Overall, fantastic experience!
Jodie was our server and I couldn’t be happier with the service she provided. The food was good, but it was only brunch options and I don’t want to review solely on the French toast and home fries. We are planning on returning one evening in the near future for dinner and I will update my review after trying some options off their dinner menu.
We came here for the mother's Day brunch buffet. It was ok. 45 pp 19 for kids. The beef tenderloin tasted a little tough. they were not tender at all. The chicken Marsala was sort of on the dry side. I did enjoy the penne in vodka sauce, the meatballs and the rice. I got full on those items. I have been here before for drinks and apps and those were good. I would come back for dinner. The menu looks good
Came here for a comedy club in the basement "speakeasy". The food was average - nothing great. The service was horrendous. There were two servers, a tall male who was great and really tried to make the best of a bad situation. The older female server with glasses was throwing drinks and utensils around and left in the middle of our order. She was rude and absolutely out of touch. She left the male server to fend for himself for all the tables there for the remainder of the night. I expected more out of this place. Definitely not worth a revisit.
Overpriced and nowhere near worth the $100+ we spent per person (without drinks). The $65 surf & turf was mediocre and surprisingly didn't have a lobster for its price (just 3 small shrimps and two small scallops). The steak lacked flavor but was cooked well. Shrimp & scallops were disappointing. In general, the mains were underwhelming but the appetizer (Thai chili calamari) and the desserts (emphasized to me that it was made by a special dessert chef) were good. Our server was nice but service was slow and the staff lacked general customer service.
We went to enjoy a birthday dinner. I had reservations but seated in the back by the bar. Notified my reservation was canceled. There was no heat and music was shut off. I told my waiter and he said cant deal with silence. Something going on with this. Food was good, waiter forgot my entrees orders. Ruined birthday. We tried.
There's nothing worse than restaurant staff rushing you to finish your dinner and leave so that another person can take your table. Our dinner at the George ended stressful and hurried. We went to the George to celebrate my birthday. After we finished dinner, I asked for a takeaway box and a little extra sauce for my pork chop. Our waitress bought the box then went to get the sauce. That's when the stress began. The Maitre d' came over and attempted to put the top on my takeaway box. I explained that I was waiting for extra sauce and he left. Five minutes later, he came over again and asked if my sauce was here. I said no, and he said he would go and get it. Meanwhile, our waitress brought my extra sauce and shared what our dessert options were. We said that we would think about it and let her know. A few minutes later the Maitre d' approached our table a third time. He picked up my takeaway container and placed it in a bag sealing it up. I had wanted to have an after dinner cocktail and some creme brulee for my birthday. But I was so anxious and stressed out by the overly aggressive nudging by the Maitre d' rushing us to finish up and leave I ended up ordering a piece of cake....to go. Our very delicious dinner experience was comepletely overshadowed, by pushy staff rushing us and making us feel that we were in the way of someone else coming to have dinner. What a disappointing birthday dinner at the George.
went to this place to celebrate my birthday dinner recently and enjoyed my time there with my friends. The food was great and our waiter was nice. Met the owner that night as well, but as the night continued it started to get a little packed and the owner kept giving my friends and I quick glances, which I assumed he wanted to oversee and make sure that everyone was having a good time. As the candles on my cake were lit, my friends started singing happy birthday and we took photos afterwards, but the owner suddenly ordered me to blow the candles as soon as possible in the middle of taking photos, which I thought was odd. Then towards the end of our time there, the bill came and we paid and continued talking, but the owner comes back again and started clearing the plates and asked if our uber was on the way, which he seemed like he was rushing us to get out which seemed unprofessional and made the atmosphere and my night off.. Even though the food and waiter was great, I generally don't recommend coming here if you are expecting to hang around during a busy night.
I have to say, last night’s visit to The George was a complete disappointment. A girlfriend and I were headed out for a holiday cocktail, maybe a bite, and our bartender was about as sour as could be. Rushed, uninterested, unwelcoming…complete opposite of my visit last holiday. The space, beautiful, the piano player was wonderful and the menu reasonable…we left after one drink. Perhaps our gal was having a rough day but I’ll tell you what, leave that at the door!
Very disappointing experience. The two of us arrived at 10 a.m. for our brunch reservation. Although we were only the second party (other was a table of four) in the restaurant, we were sat in a narrow walk though area. Because of this, my coat was knocked off my chair by a waitress as she walked by. We waited awhile before they found our waitress (we heard them asking where she was) and she came to the table. She didn't remember one of the specials, which was fine as we knew what we wanted, but she seemed unprepared. She did answer the questions we had about options, which we appreciated. The order took quite awhile to come out (the other people, who had sat down before us, had their order long before us. While we waited we heard the kitchen employees loudly discussing the constant leak and the resulting stain that reappeared weekly. When our food arrived, it was not warm - not any of it. Cool breakfast foods are not pleasant. We mentioned the lack of warmth of the meals to our waitress when we next saw her. To her credit, she asked the very appropriate question of what action we would like her to take. We decided that we would just go home and warm up our food and eat our breakfast there and asked for to go boxes and the check. The waitress then disappeared again for quite awhile. We finally asked another waitress (who was very helpful) if she could get our waitress back for us. Our waitress came back and stated that she was talking to the manager (who never came to speak with us). She gave us our check and to go boxes and while we were boxing up our food, the other waitress came by and boxed the rest of the food for us stating that we shouldn't have had to do that. We didn't mind boxing our meals, but did appreciate her time. Honestly, we expected more from this experience - firstly at least warm food, secondly timely service. We've had much better, and warm, breakfasts. So, we are very disappointed.
Well Where do I begin. We arrived at 8:20 for our 8:30 reservation, after asking how long the wait would be (we made out reservations over 2 months ago) we were remind promptly that we are “10 minutes early” (with a snarky attitude) it will be a 30 min wait from your reservation time. Ok I get it it’s Valentine’s Day. We proceeded to wait about 25 minutes being seated at 8:45 to be sat in a metal folding chair for a “High end” restaurant. The waitress (very frazzled looking like she has been worked to the bone for a non stop double) she asked us tap or sparkling. We chose sparking. She brought the drinks over around 9pm. After reading a normal menu that was on a table in the foyer area where we were waiting. Being seated we noticed there was a special Valentine’s Day Menu, which there was absolutely no mention online. I am a foodie. I went on the web sight multiple times looking to make sure. My wife is allergic to shell fish. Almost everything in the menu contained shell fish. At least you were accommodating to her allergy and sub sides for her. Now 9:15 finally taking our food order keeping with we have nothing with filet mignon. Ok switch what I wanted. Looks like I’m getting the prime rib not surf and turf like I wanted. We orders buratta 2 prime rib dinners and 2 glasses of Chianti. The main course was finally delivered by the manager apologizing said we could have a free dessert. Ok now it’s 10:15. The food was great.. BUT this experience was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I spent 230.00 to sit on a metal chair forgotten about and treated like garbage, all for a FREE dessert. Bad form guys. You failed ….. very very disappointed.
Disorganized service, excessive delays, lack of leadership, and little accountability made this a very disappointing experience overall. What stood out most was the absence of visible management during a clearly failing service. The night felt completely mismanaged, and it seemed like comped desserts were expected to make up for major operational issues rather than anyone stepping in to take ownership or apologize. I made an 8:30pm reservation expecting a polished, well run experience, but the entire evening showed major breakdowns in service, communication, and execution, along with a huge failure in leadership and management that night. When we arrived, we stood at the host stand for roughly 10 minutes without being acknowledged while staff stayed focused on their computer and conversations. We were not seated until 9:10pm, and that only happened after I spoke up. Several other guests around us were clearly frustrated, and one group even left after an argument about the wait. Once seated, things continued to slide. Two of the main entrées, the filet and rack of lamb, were unavailable, which was surprising for a place presenting itself as upscale. The crab cakes lacked freshness and tasted more like a frozen product than something made in house. We were seated at 9:10pm and did not receive our food until almost 11:00pm. When the food finally arrived, my ribeye ordered medium came out extremely overcooked, well beyond well done. By that point the long wait and inconsistent execution made the meal feel like an afterthought. Even the smaller details did not match the atmosphere they aim for. Host staff were dressed casually, menus were paper, and there was very little warmth or energy from anyone on the floor. Providence has plenty of restaurants that get hospitality right, which made this experience especially disappointing.
