My wife and I were treated like Royalty last night at Nick & G’s. Jacob, our server and Trevor, their manager did an excellent job making sure everything was near perfection. Jacob was a fun and energetic guy who listened and responded to our requests. Trevor is a wine connoisseur, no doubt. Totally pleased with their service and would definitely recommend 100%.
We had dinner here with a large group of friends in the local Porsche club. Service was excellent. The food was very good and prepared perfectly. I'm sure everyone else had a good time too. We should be back again!
So we are new to the ranch and we were looking for a local place to celebrate our anniversary. I drive past Nick & G's everyday and it always has such an inviting atmosphere. It did not disappoint. Real quick though... our hostess, Lindsay, 100% set the vibe for the evening and was so kind and fun she definitely made the night. It was quiet on a Tuesday, as expected, but still, it was a good place for an enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing evening. And the food was ah-ma-zing. I would totally recommend. Also, just found out they have live music on the weekend, so we might end up regulars. ;)
It felt like we were driving through the neighborhood in Rancho Santa Fe but when we reached the restaurant it was super cute. We were a group of 8 and we had requested outside seating. While they have a cute and cozy little patio, we were given a table kind of far down the side walk, by the intersection. The hostess was not friendly when I asked about alternate seating, maybe inside the restaurant. But then a minute later when my friend asked again, we were given the perfect corner seating inside the restaurant. And from that moment on, the whole experience was absolutely wonderful. We had the best service I have ever experienced. Our server was super friendly, attentive and most helpful. The spicy Rancho margarita, flower child and barrel aged Manhattan were all delicious. The bell pepper and goat cheese flatbread, crispy Brussels sprouts and fried calamari steak were yummy! And so were all our salads/entrees… antipasto salad, Belgian endive and Asian pear, the filet mignon, sea bass (fresh catch), chicken Alfredo without chicken, soup of the day. The restaurant was very accommodating of vegetarian diets and were willing to make certain menu items vegetarian. We were celebrating two milestone birthdays and they brought out free desserts with candles on top of what we ordered. Yummiest crème brûlée and bread pudding and carrot cake and brownies. What a wonderful evening it was! This restaurant is a great find and we will definitely visit again.
Good American restaurant in the middle of rancho Santa Fe. There is a bar with love music but the dining room is quiet. Food is very good and I enjoyed my seafood pasta. The bed pudding was good too
This is a cool place the food here is really good I suggest the filet or the lamb chops and also get the bread pudding it is very very good Gabriel helped us out he was very nice also you can pay with your Google pay here which I personally like they have a really big table for a huge family gathering also and a nice front and back patio
Best Steak in San Diego I’ve ever had! Or it’s , actually in Rancho Santa Fe.. definitely a 5 star experience! I highly recommend this family establishment. I forgot to add the calamari! Very well made! Honestly this restaurant deserves to be Michelin rated! For sure a long time customer! Check out my meal!
Fantastic! Amazing food, great music, super friendly service - a must do in RSF!
The Live Music was awesome! The Short Ribs & Lamb Shanks were so good! We will definitely come back again!
Fresh baked bread! So good. Meatballs were fantastic and the chicken parm was good. Waiter very nice and great atmosphere. Guy singing and playing the guitar was a fantastic singer. Good experience all around.
So happy to have this nearby! Great service! Great menu! Not just great, terrific menu! Four amazing chefs in one place....how can it not be? Will be back for sure, and will be bring my clients and friends here for special occasions. Thank you!!!
I had an amazing experience dining here. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and everything was spot on. What truly made the night special was our server, Nikolas. He was warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. His service took the entire evening to another level. I’ll definitely be back and recommending this place to others.
My family and I enjoyed a great experience visiting Nick & Gs last weekend. Our server Alan was great and offered recommendations that were spot on. Trevor visited us to discuss wine selections. We had a wonderful time expanding our knowledge of local and international wines. Trevor spent time with us making certain we were satisfied with our selections. We really enjoyed our time with the team. Thank you. Your doing great
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant in Rancho Santa Fe (San Diego) that serves a creative menu, and has an incredibly friendly staff. We had a holiday dinner for our family and the staff made the meal! The food was outstanding, scallops were fresh, lobster Mac and Cheese was indulgent, and the salads were crisp and served just right. Atmosphere is 4 out of 5 only because the dining room got a bit loud, and the indoor/outdoor flow was great for casual - but hard for a conversation.
We had a wedding afterparty at Nick & G's and they completely blew us away! The staff was very helpful during the planning process and the event was the perfect finale to our wedding. The service throughout the event was incredible. The staff members were constantly checking on us and our guests to make sure we had everything we needed, cracking jokes, and overall just being an absolute pleasure to be around. Also, the food way exceeded our expectations and people totally devoured it. This was a wonderful experience and a great venue.
Great food. Centrally located. Enjoyed the atmosphere and service.
Food was amazing and service was amazing as well. Cutest town too!
We love Nick & G’s! As a gluten free patron, I have to give a lot of props because they serve amazing GF Italian food which can be tough and I am SO grateful. They have wonderful live music and wonderful ambiance. Lindsay, the manager is so incredibly nice. Our servers are always top notch. One of our favorite villlage spots!
Last evening my husband and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Nick and G’s. Our server Paige was welcoming, friendly, attentive and was spot on with her recommendations. We had spaghetti and meatballs and chicken Parmesan, both dishes were very good. We will defiantly go back and recommend to our friends.
My wife and I love this place. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here. We have been back as often as we can. Their Brussel sprouts are amazing, calamari was fresh and melt in your mouth. Their short rib is always amazing. The prawn pasta is delicous, the peas in it are an awesome touch. Their drinks are great and always mixed well. The butterscotch pudding and creme Brule are always our go to desserts. This place is great for date night or just a nice dinner at a nice location.
Excellent dinner experience! They have a beautifully equipped, small patio to feel the night breeze. Lamb and scallop dishes were amazing as well as service. Even though we dined literary 5 mins before closing time, they took care of us wonderfully. Highly recommended.
Delicious food, great ambiance and service! I loved their soup of the day, the brussel sprouts appetizer, and the fact that they offer live music. This time we didn't have it because it was a Monday, but they offer it other nights and with great variety. It's the perfect spot for date night, family dinner, or girls night. Thanks for everything, Nick G's!
We held our wedding rehearsal dinner at Nick & G's and it was amazing! They were so accommodating and willing to work with us to do a curated menu for our large group, plus show a video on their TV in the back courtyard. The service and food was amazing. Our guests had such a wonderful time! If you are looking for a place to do an event in Rancho Santa Fe, look no further!!
Great food, service and life music!
A very refreshing change! A girlfriend and I had lunch on August 30th and it was a very pleasant experience. I had the scallops that were cooked to perfection the presentation was great, and the price was very reasonable. My girlfriend enjoyed one of these salads and had prawns added to it and it was also very delightful. A well-thought-out menu that I think The Village is really going to enjoy!
Went during their brunch hours. Their Eggs Benedict were perfect and the hash browns were cooked better than most places. Cocktails were balanced and tasty I recommended the pear Martini. Service was great too!
Went for Sunday brunch. Sitting outside with a tasty Bloddy Mary while enjoying live music and some awesome eggs Benedict. Service was great, friendly, and efficient. They even brought us a water bowl (including refills) for our dog. Couldn't been happier.
We celebrated our 30th anniversary tonight at Nick &G and we had the most amazing experience. All the way from the general manger Jake to our server Amelia. Wow! Just an absolute pleasure to dine here. You will be in for a treat ,first class meal and service experience.
Just opened! Shrimp cocktail features huge shrimp and a wonderfully spicy sauce, with sliced cabbage at the bottom. I was there at 5:15 for a quick bite and was out in a half hour, easy peasy. Excellent service. I'll be back with a friend to enjoy a drink or iced tea on their patio. They had a singer with acoustic guitar which I enjoyed. Nearly everything on the menu can be made GLUTEN FREE! Nick & G's is a winner!
I had the risotto and it was extremely tasty. The portions are a little bit small but probably what you would expect in one of the fancy. Places like this one is. Great taste. Great atmosphere and good food. Worth the price
My husband and I recently had dinner at Nick & G’s. The Ribeye Steak was the best steak we ever had. Incredibly delicious. Paired well with the Marscapone Whipped Potatoes. Welcoming staff. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend
I and 20 of my friends were at nick and g's tonight on the patio to watch our beloved Celeste sing! MARLEY and ADAM and wait staff HELEN who I just love and one other were top notch. I can't say enough about their service and I'm so grateful!!!! Thank you!!!!
My family has lived in Rancho Santa Fe for over a decade so we have seen all the tenants of this space. Prior to Nick & G’s it was Delicias, which was a bit more homely, but Nick & G’s does specialize in steak so it really is a nice change. This part of town is very sleepy and easy to find parking and it’s never too crowded or too noisy. It is casual dining, but I think business casual would be most appropriate. Our server was very polite and we were able to be seated right when we arrived for a 6 PM dinner. I have been to Nick & G’s a few times so I mix it up each time I visit but this most recent stop in I chose to start with the French Onion Soup, which was quite small but very good. For my entrée I chose the Filet Mignon which I did enjoy although I wish it would not have had as much demiglaze and spinach on top. I felt that it took away from the steak flavor. I really wanted to try the White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert but I was too full at the end of the meal so I plan to try it in the near future. Overall, I really love this part of town and it’s very close to where my family lives so it’s extremely convenient for us, but I would recommend to anyone looking for a great date spot or place to have dinner with friends or family.
Looking for an upscale date night destination? Well Nick & G’s is worthy of your consideration. The food was good, as was the ambiance and service. @nickandgs typically offers live music on Saturday nights, so plan accordingly if that appeals to you. Our Review Team had only positives to share about their “Meatballs di Formaggio”appetizer, “Grilled Chicken Alfredo” and “Summer Vegetable Risotto” entrees, and “Profiteroles” and “Butterscotch Bread Pudding” desserts. While our meals weren’t inexpensive, our final bill was less than expected. Although this portion of Rancho Santa Fe is quite conducive to strolling with your someone special, keep in mind that RSF tends to roll up their sidewalks pretty early so factor that into your plans. And that’s…Henry’s Take. @henrystake
It was solid all the way around - food, service, and atmosphere.....but..... I was hoping for a little "more". I can get flatbreads, "crispy" brussel sprouts, and risotto anywhere. Don't get me wrong - everything we tried tasted REALLY good, but nothing was unique. Nick and G's has the location. It has the vibe. It has the client base. There's a need for something awesome. Go out on a limb. Get creative. Change things up. Take a chance and take us for a ride.
Unfortunately I think I chose the wrong items. the apps were great, others in my party’s food looked great. I however opted for the lobster-less bisque (not a single sliver of crab in it) and the side Cesar salad, sub par. Just avoid those 2 things and you’ll be good.
Excellent service. Food was meh was expecting exceptional. Calamari was over salted and we like salt! Ceasar salad was just blah- needed more dressing which we asked for that helped. The chicken parmesan over alfredo pasta sounded delicious but it had cruciferous veggies in the alfredo pasta i.e. broccoli and cauliflower under the chicken parm- which was just a no. the chicken parm breading flavor was spot on same as the Calamari which was odd. Lobster bisque tasted scorched. the bread pudding was dry and dense like a rock. not moist and custard-like with a crusted top as it should be. The live music was fun and drinks were good. Hoping the game is improved as we'd enjoy making this a regular spot.
The food was good and the dessert was amazing, but the service was painfully slow and our order did not come out as ordered. From the moment we walked in it was hard to find someone to seat us, we ended up finding someone one in an office to told us to sit anywhere. This place was recommended, so we will give them another try, but not impressed with the staff from today's visit.
Arrived at 7 with reservation with my wife and was sat and had no service or water for over 20 minutes. I had to ask the front if we had a server and 5 minutes later the waitress arrived unapologetically. We ordered drinks and food as we had plenty of time to choose. Ice tea delivered without straw or any add one. I’m not needy or picky but taking my wife to nice restaurant I expected far more. Salad was delivered but they forgot the burrata cheese on the burrata salad. Food was tasty when we finally got it.
Maybe, as a result of the pandemic, service provided last night was not up to expectations, nor aligned with food quality and definitively in detriment to the overall experience. We had an incredible good live band, excellent plates and wine. So far, 5 stars. Problem was the service. Waitress not very friendly, she showed to be a person a few words. Time between serves was 30 min, the table was small and every server expected that we removed used plates and glasses to open space. We did have to carry the plates as they found space! Once, waiter left the plate half in the air! This is simple to resolve, and you will get a 5 star next time!
We ordered salmon on an Everything bagel but recieved it on a plain, stale and burned bagel instead. I was surprised any chef would send it out so obviously wrong and then that server would deliver it. Server never checked on our empty coffee cups sadly because the coffee was in fact good. Service was mediocre at best. Nobody seemed to care except for the bus person, who was actually great. Weird.
Sat outdoors on the patio in early evening following some rainy days. Great that there were heaters. Made it very comfortable. Manager seated me and struck up a friendly conversation about where I was visiting from. I ordered a specific malt liquor from the menu, but the waitress returned to say they were out. I had the spaghetti and meatball entree, which is the reason I sat down after reading the displayed menu on the sidewalk. It was served hot and delicious. The meatballs were incredibly light and flavorful. I did request salt, as it was on no table to be seen. The only problem: the spaghetti portion was unusually small for such a good dish. About six bites in and my plate was dry. I then ordered a house salad for the advertised anchovies because I didn’t quite feel I had enough. Another problem: I could not discern any anchovy at all. For the $32 smallish spaghetti and a miniature half salad, I felt it was overpriced for the offerings. When the manager came back to chat some more, he had already forgotten where I told him I was from. A birthday party for an eleven year old girl was happening in a banquet room so many kids and moms were hovering all over chatting and visiting.
I had a very poor experience here with my girlfriend. We were seated 40minutes late at the wrong table. We then had to wait another 10 minutes for anybody to acknowledge we were there and to move us to our correct reservation at an uncleared, dirty table. Nobody approached us after we were seated correctly so we had to ask the bar if someone could take our order. After waiting another 5 minutes we then had to ask the host if anyone could help us order our dinner since it was almost 9 PM. Finally someone came to take our order. Nobody seemed to care about our situation. Food was okay. We didn’t even have silverware or waters when they brought out the food so we couldn’t even eat. Probably the worst service I’ve ever had.
Cramped seating, very slow service(prepare to wait up to an hour for your food), astronomical prices, astronomically small portions, average taste. Servers are pretty good. In my opinion this place has too much to improve for me to give any higher than 2 stars.
Great atmosphere and live music. The food can be improved. I ordered the steak medium. I got a raw steak with cold risotto, undercooked broccoli and no steak knife. The Salmon dish wasn't crispy as advertised. The pastas were ok. Come here for the music, drinks and dessert; skip dinner menu.
While the food remains consistently excellent, our recent experience at Nick & G's fell short of the fine-dining, high-end experience they usually provide. Subtle atmosphere changes, no table cloths, loud, extended sound checks close to tables, and over a two-hour, disjointed service pace for two people were disappointing. Furthermore, logistical issues— lack of simple items like cream/spoons, requests for heater ignored, and staff running extremely thin—left us feeling cold and forgotten. Despite the great food and comping our two drinks, we are rethinking future visits, especially given the premium price point.
I live in the area and have given at Nick and G's my business many times over the years. It's finally time to give newcomers an honest opinion and provide a general warning to those considering dining there: It isn't just that the food is absolutely mediocre--it is. It isn't just that the staff makes you feel like they're doing you a favor by serving you food and beverages--they do. And it isn't just that the prices are ridiculously high--they are. The latest and saddest incident for me was when I was eating the "catch of the day" (absolutely fishy and almost inedible) and found a large piece of plastic in my dish. Yes. Honestly there's better fine dining to be had at most budget fast casual restaurant chains. I honestly don't think the people at Nick and G's care about the experience or their patrons in general. Take your money elsewhere and get a much better experience.
We have been going here for years. My husband wanted to celebrate his birthday here. Our server was horrible. We had to go and get things ourselves like utensils, salt and pepper. Most of the time we were forgotten. Our food was not prepared properly I actually had to say something. We were there 3 hours just waiting for our food and drinks. Not going back.
I went on a Sunday night, we were a party of 4. The restaurant was not busy. Many available tables. All the food that should have been hot was served warm at best. The 2 meat dishes ordered were very undercooked, order at med-rare, served with raw centers and served at room temperature. In addition 2 of our party became ill that night due to the food. Very disappointing. I was hoping to enjoy this place.
Let me guess, the G stands for garbage? Or God awful? The food here couldn’t be more mediocre for the price. Service is sub par; similar to the other reviews the ambience is not great. It looks like they stapled couch cushions to the wall to improve the acoustics. Had the steak and chicken parm. AVERAGE!! I don’t see why the rating for this restaurant is so high. I recommend avoiding this place - not worth the money. They are SO lucky to be in a higher end neighborhood without much competition.
