Ci sono posti che non si lasciano definire facilmente. Il Desiderio preso per la Coda è uno di quelli. Una galleria culinaria dove cucina, arte e visione si intrecciano con naturalezza, senza mai sembrare costruiti. Ogni piatto ha un carattere, ogni dettaglio una ragione, ogni sapore un'emozione. una cena perfetta, abbiamo preso antipasto, primo smezzato, secondo e dolce e tutto è stato incredibile. Cibo buonissimo e di qualità, location tranquilla e con un bello stile, il servizio fantastico, la ragazza Tumba gentilissima e simpaticissima. Most amazing space. Quirky but great ambiance. The food was incredible. The wine was outstanding. Felt like we were eating in someone’s home. Loved the owners dog that layed by our table at the end of the meal. Hand-written bill on handmade paper at the end of the meal. Perfect experience!

Our hotel was just steps away from this little gem. Tried it for dinner on our last night in Rome and we are so glad we did. The pasta dishes (carbonara and ragu) were delicious, as was the ceasar salad. Our server, Tumpa, is also the owner and was very helpful in selecting both the wine and our dinner. An added bonus is Belle, the sweet golden retriever who hangs out outside near the entrance. Definitely would recommend.

Everything was so amazing! We were fortunate to get a table as a walk-in party of 2, but due to the small space, I’d recommend any party size get a reservation to ensure you can enjoy this amazing restaurant. The owner was so kind and helpful, the prices were great for the fantastic quality of food and wine. We had artichokes, Greek salad, pasta alla carbonara, cacio e pepe, and a bottle of pinot nero. Everything was top-notch, and the highlight was the owner’s sweet golden retriever, who was the best girl! So calm, wasn’t begging or even paying attention to anyone. Just wandered around the restaurant occasionally before laying down out of the way. We didn’t save room for dessert, but would love to go back someday!! 10/10, fabulous choice.

I was on a night stroll near Piazza del Popolo and looking to grab something to eat when I stumbled upon Il Desiderio Preso per la Coda — and what a find! This hidden gem in Rome perfectly balances creativity and flavor. The atmosphere feels intimate and modern without being pretentious. You can tell there’s a real passion for food here. The tasting menu was imaginative and well-paced, with fresh ingredients and bold but balanced flavors. Service was attentive and yet relaxed, which made the evening even more enjoyable. I almost don’t want to share this spot — it’s that special. If you’re looking for something beyond the typical Roman trattoria experience — refined, artistic, and full of personality — this place is definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful and delicious restaurant! It’s a well hidden gem, showcasing original and inspired Italian dishes. Following the recommendations of our amazing hostess Tumpa, we enjoyed one of our favorite meals in Rome so far. Make sure to save room for dessert, though! We enjoyed a very nice Tiramisu and a superb “Baba Ron”! Highly recommend this restaurant for a special evening!

It's a great place for a relaxed meal away from the touristy restaurants and loud chatter. The owner seems to care about the ingredients used, and you can tell by the quality of the ingredients, the handcrafted menu, and the beautiful decor. The service is very friendly, and it seems popular with locals.

Had our favourite meal in Italy here, Carbonara and Seafood pasta with garlic, chilli and clams were sensational. We also were recommended a couple of desserts that we took a punt on (yoghurt mousse and a peach & pastry dessert) when we’re normally creatures of habit and order tiramisu. Did not regret it!! Everything was so delicious, amazing flavours and the friendliest, warmest service. Thank you for having us!

All the menus they served were fabulous. My son and me ate up two pasta and ordered 1 more tomato spaghetti now. Most of Asians are usually not good for salty European food but they accommodated what I asked for less salty.

The food was amazing. The best pasta dishes in our Europe trip. Two of our dishes was not on the menu but the chef can still create an amazing dish. We said we like one mushroom pasta and one seafood pasta. They turned out as our favorites ones of the day. The other one was ragu, which was amazing as well. The vibes and the service was amazing as it was decorated very pretty and artistic. The woman was so kind to explain the menu and noted down our request. We will 100% coming back next time.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the atmosphere feel very personal. One of the best pastas we had in Rome! The seafood pasta and ragu pasta were both incredible, and the Greek salad was super fresh and delicious. The interior is cozy and inviting, and the service was truly above and beyond. Highly recommend! It’s tucked away in a quiet, charming corner — you might even spot a sweet dog relaxing outside 🥰

A real hidden gem! It was hard to find a really authentic restaurant in Rome, since a lot of the restaurants are focused on tourists. But this one was amazing and the host was so nice. She even offered something that wasn‘t on the menu. The Tiramisu was amazing. Would visit again!

Excellent lunch here - real Italian menu and food (was with an Italian friend). Staff were lovely and it has a lovely intimate atmosphere. Just around the corner from Palazzo Altemps in a small side alley. The menu is really interesting and there were lots of things I would have liked to try. The pecorino wine was super.

My partner and I went for dinner on Saturday at a friend's recommendation. It was absolutely delicious! The carbonara was light yet rich, the guanciale was perfectly cooked. I had the ravioli funghi, and we shared the vegetable dish too. The house wine was the best we've had in Italy. They change the menu often, so be prepared for anything. If you are in this neighborhood Il Desiderio preso per la Coda is the place to go for dinner!

We first discovered this place because our first restaurant choice was full. You wouldn’t know it was there if it wasn’t for the golden retriever laying in the street. A small entrance and a hand written menu taped to the door is the only indication you’re at the right place. Literally everything on their menu is made fresh and is delicious. It’s as if you’re at your friends house for dinner. Staff is welcoming and friendly with great wine and for suggestions from their menu. This is what you’re looking for if you’re in search of an authentic local place that locals eat at. I saw the same older gentleman in a suit at the restaurant the 3 times we dined there, getting dinner after a long day. I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s a hidden gem away from the crowded street eateries with tables in the street. We liked the squid pasta. Also the lady working offered us complimentary after dinner drinks each time we went.

I am sad that I have to give 4 stars. The waiters were clearly understaffed, we had to wait for soooo long in-between each order. We were only 2, but stayed for almost 2 hours while being fast-paced eaters and just getting 1 plate + 1 dessert. The food was really good, the food -once ordered- came fast, and the presentation on the plate was nice. The atmosphere is good as well, and the decoration of the restaurant too. So I'll 100% come back for the food but hope the service will improve... :( (the waiters were really nice though)

Un locale piccolino, con uno stile semplice ma curato un po boho chic. Bei quadri alle pareti, sedie di paglia con cuscini un po andati..Il servizio cortese ma lento (ristorante pieno, 1 vameriere), il cibo abbastanza gradevole ma totalmente fuori prezzo e in porzioni scarsissime. Si direbbe un posto da intellettuali, non interessante dal punto di vista del ristoro né gastronomico. Pasta con i carciofi a 15 euro, servita in quei piatti enormi.. ma a malapena c'eran 10-12 rigatoni. Caponata di zucca a 13 € circa, mangiata in 4 o 5 bocconi, la carbonara super pepata (non come nella foto) con guanciale annegato in un lago di uovo (insipido). Ciambelline con passito a 6 euro, consistono in 2 micro ciambelline che saran costate tipo 30 centesimi alla cucina. E la cosa più assurda, l'acqua non imbottigliata, ma servita da rubinetto filtrato (immagino) in delle vecchie bottiglie di grappa che dovran fare si e no 700ml a 2 euro ogni "refil"l. Non che mi aspettassi l'osteria con l'amatriciana XL ma se mi vuoi servire un piatto in cui pago più di 1 euro a rigatone allora fai le cose diversamente, mi stupisci con il sapore, con tovaglie vere e tovaglioli non di carta, cuscini senza buchi, tavoli che non ti obbligano a coordinarti col vicino per alzarti, non metti 1 solo cameriere per tutto il locale. Ciliegina sulla torta: alle 4 del mattino ho dovuto prendere bicarbonato per digerire. Quindi anche sul cibo non ci siamo.. Sì insomma consiglierei di tornare coi piedi per terra, in zona si trovano rapporti qualitá-confort-prezzo molto più interessanti.
