Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff & some of the best dishes!!! The whipped ricotta with hot honey & pistachios was AMAZING!!! Looking for a place to have a great drink? The bar does not disappoint.
What a great place! I loved the booths with cool pillows; so cozy. We had great food, and we're really happy we could customize our burgers. We also had a bread pudding, recommended by our server, and it was yummy. I wasn't sure if this would be a good place to bring our well behaved children, and it definitely would be.
Fabulous food, cocktails and service! Great atmosphere! Thank you Madison! You are a rock star! Thank you for fabulous service! See you soon❤️
Pleasant family dining spot, would prefer a few more vegetarian options, though. Excellent service.
Prices are very reasonable, great location staff is friendly and well trained.
So, just to be clear.....this place has changed hands there is NO LONGER A SALAD BAR!! Just had the best fried green Jersey fresh tomatoes appetizer! My wife and I live in Keyport NJ, just stopped here on a whim and glad we did. Perfect for a chill night. Great happy hour menu. Looking forward to coming back for Sunday brunch!
This is by far the best version of the restaurant that has occupied this building (WYB, R+B’s, VPT). VPT is a great restaurant with fantastic entrees. The service is always very good, and the location is in a great spot. Their mussels are the best in Rumson, by far.
Food is very, very good. Fresh face on a popular location. The new owners have done a great job. Many of the staff are still there from many years ago. Great service, amazing dishes. I love this restaurant. If the only reason you don't come here is because you miss that crappy, old salad bar, well you are really missing out. Give it a try.
This was my second time having dinner. Had the mussels for an app which was fantastic. Followed by the swordfish which was a home run. The food was delicious and I can't wait to go back. The service is perfect and the Chef, Pete, even came out to check on our meal. Perfect!
Sat at the bar and had cocktails and light dinner. Mussels were excellent with garlic bread to soak up the broth. Onion soup was also very good. The bride enjoyed her mojito so much that she ordered a rare 2nd round. She also raved about pasta bolognese on previous visit.
Great ambiance and amazing food. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious (the Tavern Burger) and had some unique items. There was live music which was pleasant to listen to, and was not too loud to disrupt the evening.
Amazing dining experience! Service was great and staff are so friendly. The specials- fried tomatoes and swordfish were phenomenal. The steak sandwich is always a delicious option. Highly recommend.
1st time here...we had a wonderful dinner...ny strip cooked as ordered, tender and very flavorful. The cedar plank salmon also reported very good...don't miss the bread pudding if your a fan, best I've had in NJ!
High end pub with imaginative menu. Burgers great but try the fish selections. Parking a challenge side streets an option
Found you through your daughter's tiktok account, we ate there last weekend and it was a hit! Loved the watermelon salad and the steak yum! 10/10
I am surprised I haven’t been here before, what a great place! Awesome bar, great food, outstanding service! We set at the bar, small and cozy and for a small bar two barmaids were hustling, attending to all patrons at the bar and making drinks for the servers, and despite how busy they were, they still had time for a friendly small talk as they were serving drinks. The food is yummy!!!! This is our new place to hang out! Cannot wait to come back😋
Outstanding meal! Our only regret is not having gone sooner! We started with calamari, so tender and not overly breaded. The (luscious) burrata with blood orange was a really unique combination and was a treat. I had the Pork Chop Milanese which was topped with arugula and was one of the most tender, juicy chops I've ever had. My husband had the NY Strip which he said was perfect. Our server, Stephanie, took very good care of us. Atmosphere was cozy, we went on a Sunday evening and had the nerve to order dessert after all that food! Bourbon bread pudding was off the charts. 🙌
This was my first time there. The food was excellent. The eggplant meatball app was really really good. Had the short ribs for my main and the meat so perfect. Had the lemon mouse for desert Had I highly recommend it. Service was first class. The staff was friendly. The interior of the restaurant very well done. I will be back.
Love this place. Warm and friendly staff. Always accommodating even if no reservation, although highly recommend calling in advance. Craft cocktails are delightful, and food options change with the season. Calamari is best around; the pork chop is superb. If we have guests from out of town, this is our go-to place. Cheers!
Great burgers! Our party of 6 was treated like royalty from the servers. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent!!
We've been here five or six times during the last nine months or so and we haven't had a bad meal. Steaks, pasta dishes and fish have all been outstanding. Great selection of cocktails and a good wine list- great options and not the typical over-the-top choices that are standard for the area. Service is old-school, but absolutely fine. Super comfortable setting- all the goodness of the old What's Your Beef minus the claustrophobia.
This was a family birthday celebration for 6...and each and every yummy dinner was prepared to perfection! Our appetizers were delicious and our desserts were scrumptious!!!! The decor is warm and charming, and our serving staff was exceptional! What a cozy and inviting locale to dine!!! The live band was an extra bonus!!! Terrific dining experience!!! Thank You!!! We’ll be back for sure!!! Our new favorite spot!!!
Went with friends after a Sandy Hook bike ride. 2 had been there before and the Tuna Tower is their go-to. I had French Onion Soup and calamari. Lovedvthe Key Lime cheesecake
Great spot! Split the mussels appetizer to start, which was excellent. Mains were the flank steak and lobster risotto which were both great as well. Will definitely be in our rotation of favs moving forward!
We love VPT, it's our weekly stop for a consistently delicious and well appointed dinner. Our servers are always kind and attentive, but Melissa, our server this evening, was exceptional. She was informative, professional and so "on her game"(as it was very busy). Our salmon and mahi entrees were so fresh and truly outstanding. I believe it was the best salmon I've ever had! We indulged in cocktails and then ended it with a brownie sundae this time...Such a great local spot with a fabulous menu, charmingly cozy vibes, amazing service, and a terrific wine selection too!
First time eating here. Enjoyed our dinner very much. Summer salad, French onion soup, Lobster Risotto, NY Strip Steak and chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Definitely will be back again.
Went for the first time for dinner and it was delicious. The place is super cute and cozy. We had the Hanger Steak with chimuchuri and asparagus with a nice salad and the Swordfish. The steak was cooked to perfection and the swordfish was so tasty. It didn't feel like typical tavern food, it felt like someone who loves you cooked it for you. Melissa was our server and she was sweet and attentive. Looking forward to returning again very soon.
If you’re debating where to eat next, stop scrolling and go to Victory Park Tavern. This place nails the trifecta: an outstanding bar, great service, and food that’s absolutely worth coming back for. Start at the bar — it’s excellent. The bartenders clearly know what they’re doing. The martinis are crisp and perfectly balanced, and the old fashioneds are top-tier, made even better by those great cherries that actually matter. Whether you’re grabbing a quick drink or settling in for the night, the bar atmosphere is spot on. The service is consistently strong. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being fake, and genuinely welcoming. You’re treated like a regular, even on your first visit, which goes a long way. The food is very well prepared across the board. Standouts include the steak, the burger, the tuna appetizer, and the burrata appetizer — all excellent. And the scallops? Easily the best I’ve ever had. Cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Go in, sit at the bar or get a table — you really can’t go wrong. It’s also very accommodating to children, which makes it an easy choice whether you’re out for a nice dinner or bringing the family. Highly recommend. This is a place you’ll want to come back to.
Great meal every time we go. The wait staff and the owner are always very nice and accommodating. We love the atmosphere, and that’s why I will always go back.
Have not been to the tavern in a while and I have been missing out. The Tuna app and the halibut were amazing ! Staff super friendly. Owner is very present in a good way. Highly recommended
Really great menu and environment. Pubby, yet more up market. Very talented chefs.
We had a really nice experience. The food was very good. Burrata appetizer, eggplant meatballs, summer salad— all delicious. Very friendly service. The only Gripe was the lighting in the booth... felt like we were under an interrogation lamp. Bright and distracting BUT otherwise, we had a great time. Can’t wait to go back in the off season where there is hardly a wait, and no Benny’s/boat shoes everywhere.
We went for our anniversary dinner. First time since it changed from What's Your Beef? Our waiter was great, and very attentive without being pushy. The food was really good. We had French onion soup and mac & cheese appetizers. Very tasty, especially the soup. Our filet mignon were cooked well, and they let me substitute a different vegetable. Odd note: no straw or spoon for my iced tea, so I had to use my fork to stir my sweetener. Our waiter offered us a free dessert for our anniversary, so that was a nice touch. We will be back.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. We had burgers that really were outstanding. Just as good or better than the competition down the street (rated best burgers in NJ).
The atmosphere of this place is sooo warm and cozy! The waitstaff were very kind and welcoming, even with my two kids who were not being cooperative. Food came out quickly and was pretty good. I wish they had a more extensive menu!
We had been to this restaurant during the week and both the burger and the lobster sliders were excellent. I made a Mother's Day reservation based on that. There was a Mother's Day menu which I wish I had known about as what I planned to order was not available. My son ordered a steak cooked rare to medium rare. It was cooked medium. I had the lobster risotto which was seriously lacking. I thought I'd tasty it up with grated cheese but it took at least 5 minutes to get a waitresses attention, that waitress was very attentive from then on, she wasn't ours though. Still, not a dish I'd recommend. The lobster dumplings did not taste fresh. My son said he will never go there again. However, I loved everything 3 days prior so will avoid this restaurant on holidays but go back at other times.
For not being overly busy the appetizers came out cold and then it was an hour after the appetizers to get our main course. Food itself was very good but I need to give another chance for a better start.
Good local hangout and atmosphere. Great size for a restaraunt. Food was decent, wine list adequate. Live band though on a Saturday! Getting a drink at the bar was a little tough. Probably needs another smaller bar to just handle drink orders at the tables, and bar itself separate. Food was good, personally thought the Russel and Bette's food was better. The pork chop was changed up. Wish they kept the same recipe and size for it, I used to always order that. Sea Bass was very good. Tuna Stack was decent. Could have used a little more taste, a little watery. Add some shallots in the stack, maybe some soy and worceshire sauce mixed. Even though food we ordered was "good", I'll come back for sure. I heard their burger and NY strip are awesome, and I missed out on their eggplant meatballs. Hopefully their more popular menu items will bring this review up to a 5 star!
Three and a half stars. The atmosphere was very good. Attracts a friendly crowd. The staff (especially the bar staff) was exceptional. Appetizers were good. The presentation was very good. However, we felt the steak was not equal to the pricing. Having said that: worth the trip, we'll most likely be back.
First time here since it was Whats Your Beef. Staff was great. Very friendly and attentive. My wife had the Calamari appetizer and loved it. I ordered the onion rings which were pretty good. I had the Strip Steak which really wasn't worth the price. It had no flavor at all and the mashed potatoes were very dry. My wife however had the chicken entree and was happy with her meal.
Steak was good, and so were salads. But, the sides were a disappointment, and were more of an a la carte feature. However, we were comparing this restaurant to What's Your Beef, which was truly unique. Even if a restaurant changes ownership, if a business model ain't broke, don't fix it. Final review: Food was good but not remarkable, especially for the price. Will not return, unless this restaurant brings back the What's Your Beef format.
I love the building; it has the best charm and I love that they kept the library room from when it was What's Your Beef. The bar is so cozy and intimate and the bartenders are always knowledgeable and on top of their business. But the food and service is inconsistent. Though our servers are always courteous and friendly, I've had them come back to retake a part of my order (maybe I asked for a side of something they didn't have) and they would ask for an alternative which I would decide on, but never got. Or asked for my steak rare and it comes out medium. But other times they're ridiculously on point. So It's a mixed bag. The other night my husband was feeling less than good after eating and my burger was on the line of being toooo rare. So it wasn't the best for night. But the cocktails were excellent lol. So you never know lol
Over attentive staff was the most annoying thing about our last visit to Russell & Bette's which is s shame because the food is excellent. There is a fine balance in being attentive but remaining reserved enough so as not to irritate the customer. Dining out should be a time to relax and enjoy good food but when a meal is constantly interrupted by A bus boy it leaves a bad taste. We could not get out of there fast enough. You should make your customer service as appealing as your menu.
The food is wonderful! However, we like to sit and eat at the bar. The bar usually only has one person behind it, taking care of the bar as well as the service bar. Last night was particuarly busy and it was difficult to get drinks and order food. Additionally, we asked to share a dish - which we've done in the past. Well they split the dish but we only got the half portion - no clue what happened to the other half of the order - so we each had a quarter of a meal!
A hard pass. I think the burger was pre-cooked and served cold. It really was weak and had no taste. I ordered medium and it came rare and cold. Not good The bacon was cold also. I can't recommend VPT.
STAY AWAY. New owner, new name (Victory Park). Food was good. Service was AWFUL. These people can't have any restaurant experience, just money. Wait a few months. They didn't know they had customers, then didn't know what to do with a table. Bunch of untrained kids, supplementing employees left over from the old restaurant. People go out of habit, or because of cheap "burger night". But don't go expecting a "dining experience", this is TGI Fridays, but at twice the price!
Sat at bar. Bartenders were very nice. My husband enjoyed his salad. I had 2 apps..tuna tower and dumpings. I was not impressed. Tuna tower would have been nice with coconut rice. Dumpings were blah.
Not everything it's cracked up to be. First.when we sat down, one of the small plates had a crack in it and the other was dirty . The appetizers were good , with the crab bisque the best. We each had a different burger and they came up out just barely warm . Their taste was OK, but not even close to some of the burgers I've had elsewhere . We decided against dessert . Overall , the restaurant was a bit of a disappointment based on the reviews and we will not return.
Just had an extremely disappointing experience at What's your Beef? Restaurant in Rumson NJ. The restaurant was not quite half full, but when we went up to place our order ( you have to go stand at a counter to place your own order) we were the only ones waiting and the two chefs behind the counter did not even acknowledge us for 5 minutes--you get faster service at a crowded McDonald's at lunch time. After our food was delivered I realized that that was just par for this place because they really think they are something special. My husband had beef, which was very good, but I ordered shrimp which came out hard and dry. I politely asked if I could have some melted butter for the shrimp and then after 5 minutes another waitress came and asked about they meals and I repeats that I was waiting for melted butter , she said "let me take the plate to the kitchen and they will pour it over the shrimp. 10 minutes after my plate was taken, and my husband was completely finished with his meal, the hostess brought me a plate and said " the chef made you a beautiful shrimp scampi". Now there were 4 small shrimp on the plate where there had been 6 when they took it back, AND there was still NO MELTED BUTTER. When I pointed that out they quickly went and brought me a small melted butter scampi sauce-- which is what I had asked for 15 minutes ago. The shrimp was now hard, dry and COLD. The hostess was extremely condescending when I pointed out that my husband had now been finished with his dinner for a while and made no apology just saying. This place thinks that the customer is lucky to be there and made it clear that they are not the least concerned if the service or food disappoints. There are so many great restaurants in the Rumson/ Fair Haven, Red Bank area, that aim to please with food quality and service; do your self a favor and don't go to What's you Beef because they just don't care if you have a bad meal
My family frequents Victory Park in Rumson on a regular basis. Victory Park is advertised as per se, “ as a cozy neighborhood spot, and a good place for family and friends.” Although this has been a true statement in the past, I would dispute this statement as of this evening. My family made reservations to dine at Victory Park Tavern Sunday evening. Our family was taken to our table by the hostess. As we were ready to sit, the hostess decided this table was not a “fit” for our family. Upon getting situated at a different table, our 21 month old daughter fussed a bit when her foot became stuck in the table seat that we brought along with us. We quickly distracted her as to not disrupt other patrons at the restaurant. A friendly waitress whom has served us in the past, watched and smiled. Our daughter settled in and was NOT screaming, crying, or misbehaving, and even if she were, there would have been an appropriate manner in which to address this situation. The hostess suddenly came over to our table and informed our family that she has it on “record” that our two children cry out and disturb their customers, she followed that up with…if your child cries out, please take her outside. I would like to first express, we have one child not two, and we were accused of having “our children” disrupt a so called “family” establishment. I would also like to mention, BEWARE… Victory Park Tavern is taking notes in reference to the behaviors that families display while dining in their restaurant. Also be aware that their notes are not correct! Think twice about dining at Victory Park Tavern … do you feel comfortable frequenting an establishment in which staff take notes about your family? Please also be aware of how the staff speaks to your family, it was unprofessional to speak negatively in front of our daughter. After experiencing this hostile and unpleasant environment at a so called “family” restaurant, our family decided to leave this establishment as at this moment we knew this was no longer an establishment that is family friendly. We felt it was only fair to speak with a manager to express our concerns about the unprofessional actions that the hostess displayed to our family. To our disbelief, the hostess is the OWNER of Victory Park Tavern. To say the least, we were stunned. We told her our concerns in a kind family-like manner, and also mentioned that social media speaks in volumes. We were not encouraged to stay and dine. This is the first time I have ever posted anything negative on social media, and the reason being is that from the moment we were being seated, we feel our family was being targeted for dining with a young child. In the end, our family enjoyed a pleasant meal at a FAMILY FRIENDLY restaurant in Rumson. Salt Creek Grill was exceptional; the staff, food and friendly environment was just what our family needed to enjoy our Sunday evening! We can only hope the owner of Victory Park learns a lesson, but in the end… they have lost a loyal customer.
