Pumpers is a popular burger joint known for its delicious smash burgers, especially the Charles Jr. and Culo Melt. Customers rave about the friendly staff and fun atmosphere, though parking can be challenging. Fries cooked in beef fat are a must-try.

This is the second time I’ve gotten the Culo Melt burger. It’s BOMB. It has a nice kick to it and the sweet jalapenos compliment it well. I will always come here after drinking at Hops & Hounds down the street. It is definitely the best spot in walking distance to grab a bite to eat. The service has been great the last two times I’ve gone. No complaints there. I also got the Bushwacker drink and it tasted just like a milkshake. It was delicious as well. Very dangerous, but delicious nonetheless lol. There was plenty of seating and the cones they give for your order are super cute.
The burgers are absolutely amazing!! I ordered the #2 and my boyfriend the “last exit to pumpers”, and let me just say they are definitely worth the price. We spent 37 dollars for two cokes, burgers, and an order of fries (which were enough for the two of us) and this was great!! The place is a bit small, but the atmosphere is fun and inviting. Will come again!
Really, genuinely good. The burger and fries were great. They have a nice selection of cocktails and the Bushwacker is fantastic. Probably not for kids. I highly recommend it and I'll be back. I'm looking forward to trying the CULO MELT.
Finally made it to Pumpers, the eclectic “adult” burger store from Chef Stefan Bowers, which is right next to the new Hot Joy on Broadway. The burgers, or “Pumpers”, each contain two 3.2 oz brisket/chuck patties, American cheese, and milk buns. I got the Charles, Jr. and my husband the Pumper—they were both gooood and filling. Seating is available, although can fill up quickly with the popularity of restaurant. We were able to grab a table relatively quickly, and there were also a few picnic tables outside. During our visit we saw a lot of take out orders, with online ordering available. We look forward to returning and trying the other Pumpers on the menu.
Simple menu a few variations of burgers and ripper hotdogs (fried) I got the charles jr. With it's candied bacon and fried onions so far my favorite burger. The el rey hotdog has pepper jack cheese with jalapeños and grilled onions spicy mayo and mustard, probably the best hotdog on the menu. The place is small but it fits with the welcoming atmosphere, great service, friendly staff, and great music. Overall the best lunch experience I've had in months. Pumpers is a new favorite on my list.
I have eaten a ton of burgers in SA, and Pumpers just jumped to the front of the line for best burger in all of San Antonio! Pumpers has been around for less than a year, but the self-proclaimed “adult burger store” is cooking up elevated flavors with a killer atmosphere. As soon as I stepped into Pumpers I knew I was going to like the food. It’s a great vibe inside and the staff were friendly and inviting. While I waited for the food I spoke to the bartender and learned about the various shows and events they put on there. I’m excited to check those out as well. We ordered the Last Exit Burger, the Culo Melt, the Chili Cheese Dog, the Charles Jr. burger, and three orders of fries. Just holding each burger you can feel the heft of them, and you realize you’re in for a meal. The Chili Cheese Dog, which they call a Ripper, was delicious. An extra soft bun stuffed with a fried Nathan’s 100% beef glizzy, and covered and smothered with homemade chili, spicy cheese sauce, and sweet onions. I also ordered the Last Exit to Pumpers burger which was bursting with flavor. A filling and flavorful feast between two soft, yet firm, Milk Buns. The patties are rich and absolutely standout, as they are comprised of a brisket/chuck mix. One of my coworkers ordered the Culo Melt and they reported that it was phenomenal. Packed with jalapeños, Monterey Jack cheese, sweet onions, and a Salsa Matcha Aioli. My other coworker ordered the Charles Jr. and he said it was the best burger he’s had in ages. He raved about the combination of ingredients, fried onions, pickles, candied bacon, and charred cumin BBQ. I tried a piece of the candied bacon and it was to die for. The fries were cooked perfectly, and seemed to be an amalgamation of your favorite fast food burger joint’s fries. As if McDonald’s, In N Out, and Whataburger had a fry love child. I cannot recommend Pumpers enough, and I also cannot wait to go back and try something new. We will definitely be going back, and I will definitely be attending one of their shows. 10/10 would recommend!!
Flavor: A- Service: A Tea: F Solo dining: A I’d heard of Pumpers but recently saw it on a best San Antonio burgers list and knew I must go. That said, The Burger Trail doesn’t go where there isn’t parking. And Pumpers teeters on the edge of that criteria. The place is tucked in the corner of a larger building in a seemingly-trendy area. I’m not sure you could get a two-bedroom house inside this restaurant. It’s an order-at-the-counter kinda place with some bar seating and a few tables inside and out. They call themselves an “adult burger store” which I think is just a tip-off to their 21 & up after 9 PM rule. No complaints here… I’m all about enjoying a late-night burger without plain-and-dry burgers clogging up the order line. The burger comes wrapped in foily paper so you get to open up this beauty like it’s a present to yourself (#treatyoself2025). You could immediately tell this milk bun was fresh and homemade with perfectly grilled edges. All the burgers come with two thin chuck-brisket patties and the perfect amount of melty American cheese. I wouldn’t call this a smash burger but it might be made that way and it is similar. I got the #2 that comes with special sauce, lettuce, pickles, and sweet onion. The ratio of meat to bread to cheese to sauce to veggies was quite strong. A rarity. And the flavor, oh the flavor, was full. The one and only drawback to this burger was that it had too much char on the patties which lost some of the goodness of its flavor. So this one gets an A- on flavor but it could so easily get to an A. The fries are not a good match for the burger - bland, thin, and undercooked. And the beverage selection is, well, they tried. No fountain drinks, no ice, no tea. Only canned Cokes and a couple of specialty bottled drinks in terms of non-alcoholic options. So obviously we should keep our focus on the burger. Cheers to Pumpers for birthing a nearly-ideal burger creation! #theburgertrail #texasburgers
Great stop while in SAT! Simple, but great menu. Everything is made to order, and it tastes like it. Really cool, retro/diner atmosphere - definitely see it as a spot locals likely dive into. Staff was super friendly and I would definitely recommend trying the Porch Milk!
Cool new burger place in town with fantastic burgers, homemade pickles, and cool fry options. The burgers are smash burgers which are the best type of burger. The service is good. Atmosphere was very loud when I dined in the first time but less noisy the second time. This is my second favorite burger in town! I really love this place and highly recommend it
Wow 🤩 amazing Burgers 🍔😋. We had #2 as a Happy Hour Deal (one Patty) and Charles Jr. with two patties. The Burgers were sooooo delicious. Highly recommend Pumpers when you're looking for great Burgers 💪
I tried the Culo Melt and Overloaded Fries this visit! Everything was delicious, served hot and fast. I really enjoy coming here and appreciate knowing that the owner truly cares about the place and his employees. Keep up the fantastic work, Chef Stefan and the team! (Oops, I got too excited and started eating before taking a picture, next time! 😎)
Saw a local foodie post and the chicken sandwich looked amazing. I’ve been on a chicken sandwich kick so I had to drive across town to check it out! The food was not fast and we sat outside which wasn’t a thrilling scene (not the restaurants fault), but it was worth the wait! The pickle sauce was my favorite part. I loved the cabbage and my husband who is a snob about burgers gave it a top 3 in SA Would go back for a chicken fix. The waters are $5, but I bought them before seeing they had a water station. Grab a complimentary cup if you want to save a few $$
This is my favorite burger spot in all of San Antonio. Food is delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking can be a pain since it’s right off Broadway. But the food here is amazing. Every burger comes with 2 patties. The bun is just right, not too soft and sturdy enough to handle the burger. Fries are amazing. They’re cooked in beef fat which is how they should be done. Pumpers sets the bar high and you won’t be disappointed coming here. Also they’re open late which is very convenient.
If you’re in San Antonio and crave bold, delicious, unapologetic burgers, Pumpers is the place to be. This isn’t your average burger joint—it’s a celebration of flavor, fun, and good vibes, and it delivers on every level. The Food: Pumpers’ menu is full of personality. Burgers like The Pumper, Charles’ Jr., and the spicy Culo Melt pack punch after punch of flavor. The patties are juicy, toppings inventive, and every bite is a little messy in the best possible way. The loaded fries and ripper hot dogs are equally indulgent, making it a playground for anyone who loves comfort food done with confidence and joy. The Atmosphere: Walking in feels like stepping into a neon-soaked diner dream. It’s lively, colorful, and unapologetically playful. After 9 p.m., the vibe shifts to 21+, giving it a slightly more energetic, grown-up feel, perfect for a night out. The staff is friendly and enthusiastic, ready to guide you through the menu with a smile, making every visit feel personal and welcoming. What Makes It Special: • Fun and bold flavors that make every bite memorable. • A friendly, energetic staff that makes you feel right at home. • A vibrant, playful atmosphere that’s perfect for groups, dates, or solo adventures. • Creative menu items you won’t find anywhere else—Pumpers has personality in spades. Why You’ll Love It: Pumpers is the kind of place that makes you smile. It’s messy, it’s lively, and it’s unapologetically fun. You leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. This is comfort food with a twist, a little chaos, and a lot of heart. Pro Tip: Come hungry. Bring your friends. Laugh, eat, and enjoy every messy, flavorful moment. Pumpers isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience you’ll want to return to again and again.
Nice modern place with cool Menu of great burgers and also Dogs. Long French Fries cooked well. but huge in the burger flavor and I can't wait to try the Hot Dogs next. 😋BBQ sauce in the burger is incredible. Late night waffle 🧇 Yeah!
Stopped by with my friend today and oh my gosh, I’m so glad I did! Burger and hotdogs were delicious. The place was very clean and the drinks were fantastic. Staff was sooooo friendly!! I recommend and will definitely be back
Been wandering San Antonio like a gluten-free nomad and finally found salvation in the form of Pumpers. That #2 combo? Smacked harder than childhood trauma. The meat was juicy, the bun held together like it had trust issues, and the toppings were basically a flavor orgy in my mouth. Fries came overloaded, as advertised. One bite and I felt like I got punched by a flavor clown. The “magic assholes” (aka sweet jalapeños) were… an experience. Somewhere between spicy and emotional damage. I be back

Really solid burger. Good size with 2 patties. The fries are delicious as well. Really cool spot i could see it being hard to get a table when they're busy. Between the play on words to describe the food and the decor, really fun and chill spot. I am definitely coming back to try the other burgers on the menu.
An absolute outstanding burger joint. The Culo Burger was tasty and the fries were AMAZING! The fact the fries are cooked in beef fat makes them absolutely delicious. This is a must eat if you haven’t been!
Absolutely love this place. Laid back atmosphere with great food located in the River north district. Sit at the bar and order El Rey then get a bushwhacker for dessert. You won’t be disappointed.
11/10!! Went here after a work conference in search of a good burger. (Spoiler alert: it was a GREAT burger) The space is so cool and full of personality!! The staff members were very knowledgeable and friendly! The FOOD THO..I genuinely wanted to reverse time to right before I ate so I could do it again without bursting at the seams. So. Good. The perfect amount of each topping, patties packed with flavor and not just grease! Sorry I didn’t get a pic, it was gone before the photo op crossed my mind. Just know it was beautiful.
My bf and I moved in near this place. It is an incredibly amazing burger place! Everything I’ve had has been amazing (my fav so far is the limited time breakfast burger). Everyone is always so nice and cool as well. The vibes are welcoming and so fun. Love small businesses like this. You can tell everyone loves what they do.
Ordered the chili cheese dog, the #2, and fries. The hotdog was very tasty. The burger patties were seasoned well, had a nice charr and crispy ends. I really liked it. The fries were ok. This is a nice cool spot but, it's really small. I wouldn't recommend a big group.
Ordered the culo melt, a chili dog and a double cheese burger with fries. The inside of the establishment was on the smaller side with limited seating. Staff were welcoming and food was fresh. The culo melt was their personal take on a patty melt. The burger was well made and it comes with candied jalapenos, which they were very liberal with. The burger overall was a bit too sweet for me. I also prefer more of a creamier type of cheese on my burgers. This joint uses a different style of cheese, with more of a stringy cheese pull. The chili dog was tasty but I am saddened that I forgot to ask for it "crispy", but there's always next time. The service was a bit on the slow side, so that definitely played a part in me not going back to the register to order an additional dog. Overall, we were satisfied with our experience. 3.9/5
