Let’s start with the basics- chips and salsa, margaritas and beer. All on point! I could live on the chips and salsa alone! Margaritas are fresh and delicious, beer is ice cold. Now the actual food- in a city of Mexican food this stands out as the best! The authentic flavor, the freshness, it’s all so delicious on the next level. All of that is wonderful before you add the extremely attentive and flawless service! We have eaten at all 3 locations and the service and food is consistently amazing. This is our go to when we are in SA and our first recommendation when someone asks us where to go.
We recently reserved the Estrella Room for a Bridal Luncheon at the Alamo Heights location. Our Headcount was 24 and it couldn't have turned out any better. Every course was served hot, delicious and in a timely matter. The server told me they were short handed, but we would not have known. Service was great! The margaritas are delicious and each beautifully topped with a single orchid. Jennifer the manager, was very professional and knowledgeable. She was well organized and assisted with menu planning. We look forward to our next event there in the future. I highly recommend.
Today I went to get some dinner, first I ordered 5 dishes, 2 orders to go, so this is the food I ordered and eat at the restaurant: La Fogata, Cantina, located at: Alamo Heights. Our server was: Gina, she greeted and welcomed us, was so kind so we ordered our drinks (Mexican Coca Colas) then when she came back we were ready to order, but I haven't seen this: we ordered 3 entrees (dishes) and two more to go, carry out (Beef Fajitas & Enchiladas de Mole Poblano) and she never wrote down the order! can you believe this? just memorize everything that we ordered to her, it was awesome! In less than 10 minutes we had on the table our 3 dishes! Tacos al Carbon (2) the meat was so tender and juicy, and they are served with the fried onions, the fresh made corn tortilla and pico de gallo, all these taco ingredients & spices combination, gives a unique full flavor taco al carbon. I asked for salsa verde, holy moly, it was so spicy but so good. Then we ordered: Camarones Enchilados (Spicy Shrimps) they were super spicy and delicious as well, these were like colossal size, huge and the consistency of the meat was not tender but the flavor, very rarely have I eaten them so tasty liked in here. Also tasted the: Quesadilla de Flor de Calabaza, simply yummy. When we were leaving, I saw Gina, and asked her where was the manager, she said is him, ( she was talking with him) so I asked his name, he said Scott, well let me tell you that most of the times we asked for the manager is for a complaint, but never recognize the servers effort, it's work appreciation, and this time Gina was our star server, pretty good job all of you guys, I need to give you my 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐don't hesitate we'll be back so soon, I told Scott, in my opinion, comparing the flavors and fresh products of the Mexican food that you offer, we decided that we liked La Fogata Cantina, much better than some others, like Mi Tierra.
Good experiences, first we thought it was taking to long to take care of us, but we noticed they got very busy in a time that usually is slow. The bartender noticed nobody had come to our table and she came out and took our order and she was an amazing. The food was delicious very good Chile's en nowadays, the mixiotes, tender meat and great flavor. The margaritas with a flower on it is very nice. We will definitely be nack
Our board had a lunch meeting to bid farewell to a long time member and we loved the good which was skillfully prepared, served hot by a mist amazing server. Flautas were yummy and well filled, fabulous rice and beans, enchiladas, quesadillas and roasted salsa. My margarita was well done the flan was delicious as well. I'll definitely be back. And yes, I wore the orchid from my drink home.
I had a great experience at this Mexican restaurant! I ordered the enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious. The service was also very good; the staff were friendly and made sure everything was just right. The restaurant has very good vibes. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great Mexican food and a great place to eat!
I had the best experience from The time I walked him. The food was sooo good and flavorful. My waitress did not stop smiling and checking on me. I can’t lie I just picked it place because it was close to my job and I’m so surprised. I will definitely be back. And the Bartender!!!!! Omg !! Yall. Have to check on this place please and report back here .
Fantastic service! Food is also great and their margaritas are the best! This is our go to place.
Had lunch here with my family and really enjoyed the experience. I ordered the parrillada, and it did not disappoint! The meats were cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and came out sizzling hot. You could tell everything was fresh, and the portions were generous too, definitely enough to share. What really stood out though, besides the food, was our server, Auriel. She was fantastic, super friendly, attentive, and made sure my whole family was taken care of. She checked in on us a good amount of times in a good time frame, got everything out quickly, and was really easy to talk to when we had questions about the menu. It made the meal feel even more enjoyable and I hope the next time we eat here that we’ll get her again. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also really nice. It’s warm, stylish, and spacious. The wood accents and tall rustic chairs give it a cozy, earthy vibe. The hanging lights and blue glassware make everything feel just a little more special without being over-the-top. We will definitely be returning in the near future.
This location is a quick trip over from Ft Sam basically cemetery. Finding the entrance was slightly tricky. It's in the back of the building. We dined in on a Tuesday mid afternoon for lunch. Our table service for 8 was a quick and pleasant affair. The restaurant was quiet and the special of the day couldn't be beat. Our server excellently facilitated our meal.
Thank you for a wonderful service. The food was great and the staff is always checking on us to ensure everything was okay.
Best food I’ve had in San Antonio so far and excellent service ask for daisy and Alondra
Great Food and Awesome staff! Maddox and Tiffany are the best bartenders!
Tiffany did an amazing job on the Sunday I came in. Great recommendations for food and drinks. Will come back just for her
We love this place. Adriana was incredible and very attentive! Sit at the bar—that’s the way to go!!

Excellent service, the manager was very attentive. Delicious food. I feel right at home.
Great food .waitress was great. We were a big group about 10 of us. Had never been there before. Sign was hard to read while driving. Went to front to enter but entrance was in back. Was clean . Not crowded at all for lunch.
Great and super friendly staff. Daisy and Brandon work great together as a management team and it's reflected with their team. Bar staff is totally on point. Tiffany, Adriana, and Madux are great.
Daisy and Amber were amazing. Excellent service and food. The drinks are good and the salsas are the best I have ever had.
Absolutely the best Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. Beats anything on the riverwalk all day! You must try the chile relleno!
Our all time favorite place! Can’t beat the margaritas and habanero salsa! The patio is private and beautiful and the staff is always very friendly and welcoming!
The fogata at Alamo heights has the best staff working there the customer service is the best of all San Antonio Texas the waitress and the bar maids are awesome there's a waitress there named Daisy she is so kind and always with a big smile she makes my day all the time

We loved the food the margaritas and the ambiance such a wonderful time. Great night to celebrate 30 years together ❤️🌹❤️🌹
Our favorite place to eat. Great Margaritas with beautiful orchids! They just changed to a new Chef. He's really improved the food!!! They also have lunch specials now. Fiesta Duo is the best!!!!!!
We absolutely adore La Fogata - the space is gorgeous and welcoming. The food is always on point and so delicious. The service is consistently FANTASTIC. We’ve enjoyed the patio for everything from anniversary celebrations to random happy hours and every experience is consistently fabulous! Highly recommend.
Thank you for making my graduation dinner a wonderful experience. Amber, our server was on time, listened, and was attentive. Thank you Jennifer GM for accommodating and being nice to my party of 20. Recommend this location for your special occasion. Food came out fast and yummy.
The food was amazing but what more amazing was the service we received from Amber. She was very attentive and made us feel right at home as it was our first time Here. We will most definitely be back!!
We have been coming to this location since it opened. La Fogata holds beautiful memories for my family. The service is amazing, food is the best in town…it tastes the same as all the locations & has $5 margs…WHAT??? You won’t find a better place!
The food was incredible. The wait staff was friendly and had great recommendations. Rafael the chef couldn’t have been nicer. We went when it wasn’t terribly crowded and he came out to make sure we were enjoying our food. Love this place and the family atmosphere and vibe. You can tell the manager Jen really cares about people and providing excellent service and dining experience.
Food and service were great! Deisy and Amber were very kind and patient with our group and all of the questions that we had. We never felt rushed, great experience! Will definitely be coming back!
Our group enjoyed our time here. Daisy and Amber made sure the service and food was on point which we really much appreciate. I would definitely recommend coming here during brunch hours!😋
Its a great place to for a romantic night . The atmosphere is amazing both on the top restaurant and bottom. Drinks are amazing, Daisy give great service always attentive and friendly. Will definitely be coming back

Excelente servicio
Excelente experiencia, las margaritas y comida 10/10. Daisy fue súper atenta y amable. Definitivamente volveremos
I had the absolute best experience at La Fogata thanks to our incredible bartender Tiffany. From the moment we sat down, they made us feel genuinely welcomed — not just like another table, but like guests they were excited to take care of. They knew the menu inside and out, gave amazing recommendations (that did not miss), and timed everything perfectly. Drinks stayed full, food came out hot and fresh, and we never once had to flag them down. You can tell they really care about creating a great experience, not just doing their job. Beyond the service, their energy made the whole night better — warm, attentive, and just the right amount of personality. La Fogata is already a great spot, but having a server like that takes it to another level. If you’re lucky enough to have them as your server, you’re in for a fantastic meal.
We had a wonderful time! We sat at the bar and met some other regulars. We hadn't been back because the service behind the bar wasn't as attentive and friendly. It was great seeing a fresh friendly face and attentive. Adriana was very well spoken of by the other patrons. Totally a people person and professional. She seemed in charge of her workspace, we had great food & manager was always visible and friendly as well. The place was pretty packed, manager was engaged with helping the staff and we will definitely start coming back
I have been here a few times for lunch and the food never disappoints. Husband and I came in today and as always, it was delicious. Waitress was attentive without being overbearing or making it seem like she was rushing us. Never knew they had a brunch menu and I want to come try every item on their menu now. Highly recommend!
I’ve been coming here since they opened. Always great food, great service, and amazing drinks. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, if you’re confused on what to order just ask for a recommendation and they are sure to point you in the right direction. Whether you’re looking for a quality meal after a hard day of work or tasty drinks to start your weekend look no further!
We had a large team dinner at La Fogata this past weekend and it was perfect. We came in from Colorado for a tournament and I had reached out to the event manager to reserve a large room for 45 guests. We have many allergies and picky family requests and the manager was so easy to work with and always accommodated our needs. Weather ruined our tournament schedule and the manager was able to pivot and adjust times to help us still have dinner at a new time. While there our servers were awesome. Ale helped with our table personally and she made sure everyone had what they needed and made our night perfect. Our team is still raving two days later ❤️
Excelente servicio.
It is well known restaurant for their margaritas and drinks. Food was ok , I ordered medium ranchero steak but it was well done.. our appetizer came with meal even we already told server that we would like to have it before the main dishes but they removed it from my check .. shrimp was ok but my sons little plate was the best.. kid quesadilla 😬 we will go back for drinks for sure .. I wish my steak was cook right ..
Ordered the paradilla for dos and 2 margaritas. Margaritas were some of the best I had ever had. Restaurant was packed, and service was still good. Attentive waitress, and got us everything we needed! Chips and Salsa were good. We got our food and it looked okay. The ribs had a jerky texture, the chicken thighs were slightly undercooked and had pink in them still ( but were still really good. I've never had an undercooked meat I won't eat. My stomach is steel.) Shrimp were dry and had no seasoning, but we're okay. My wife liked the pepper with stuffed chicken breast. Tasted like it had some sort of cheese mixed in and it was shredded. Rice was dry but had decent flavoring. Charro beans were charro beans, nothing special. Had alot of juice and not alot of beans. Steak was good and tender but still not alot of flavoring. Waitress asked how our food was and my wife and I said we were disappointed and the food wasn't very good. There was no flavor whatsoever to any of the meat and it was subpar. Manager came and acknowledged we were not satisfied and we showed him the jerky, dried rice, and voiced our concerns. Manager was very understanding and offered to take off some of the price. (We had ate a 1/4 of the food already cause we were looking forward to a great parradilla like the pics we saw so we didn't expect him to do too much). Manager looked at our food and agreed it appeared subpar and wasn't to their standards. Offered us a dessert and gave us a discount on the meal. I have never had service quite as good as he provided to us. We weren't expecting anything out of it, as we had already ate a good portion of the meal by the time he got there, but his dedication to his expectations was on point. Not sure if we would ever come back here for the food because we had high standards going in and were dissapointed, but will definitely be back for the Margaritas as they had a floral taste that we have never had before! Other food we saw looked very good and if we do go back, we would not get the parradillas. Maybe in the future we will give it another try and try something with better recommendations. PS, we got the Tres leches to go. It is in the fridge right now and we haven't tried it, but it looks outstanding!!!
It's VERY loud! Our group made tge mistake o scheduling a dinner meeting at which there were about 15-20 of us at a long table. There was another group at the far end of tge room we were in who were partying VERY loudly. We couldn't hear each other, though some of us were sitting less than 5 feet from one another. That party of folks left when we're about 80% through our gathering. The difference in sound level was impressive - so munch quieter. But, our meeting was pretty much thwarted by then. Food is good. A bit pricey. Don't go with a large group if you need to be able to hear each other. OR, be sure to request seating in one of the quieter sub-rooms! If it's very hot outside, those areas are not good options.
Our favorite servers in the dining area are Gina and Angela. Both are amazing! This time we sat at the bar for drinks and appetizers. We won’t go back to the bar area again. Not for sure what happened. Perhaps we were invisible because we were never noticed. Plus there was no one else sitting at the bar. Now I know why.
Food is great and that’s why we come here. We’ve tried to put up with the service - specifically at the bar and it’s just horrendous. They don’t tune into customers and waiting to order, getting drinks, it’s awful. We quit coming for about 3 months and decided to come back and it was the worst experience we’ve had so I guess we’ll go somewhere else. We live so close and it’s a neighborhood place but it isn’t worth getting so upset when we come. Super sad.
We went for brunch as a pre-planned, pre reserved large party for my Mother-In Laws birthday last weekend. Firstly, it was impossible to find, but we of course managed to stumble upon it. I thought the ambience was cute & the restaurant itself was super clean. AS SOON AS we walked into the "private area" I was annoyed. The sun was SOO dang bright we all had to shield our eyes or wear sunglasses inside just to have any communication. There were no blinds or shades on the 3 foot windows, but for the sake of the occasion just shrugged it off. There is NEVER a time to early to drink so of course we ordered accordingly. (The Paloma was pretty good, I rate it a 3 stars also) wearing a cute little 🌺 on the rim. Then our "server" (Amber) came to check up on us. Im critical of serves, I'll admit that, but I've been in Fine Dining 10+ years. So it's to be expected, however this woman was RIDICULOUS...to the point it was almost comical & depressing. She was so rude to my husband's uncle, LITERALLY just drop the plates down in front of us, nearly dropping the food on the head of an over 60 year old man. Couldn't answer a single question on food production or presentation because she said she doesn't eat there & mis rang & mis charged almost every check. I feel bad to put her on blast like this especially because she appeared to be on some mind altering substance that made her neck gear every which way. She refused to fix the checks & made a comment about having partied the night before. Needless to say, we will be sticking to our usual La Fogata when we get that itch.
The waiter could not accommodate a request for shrimp fajitas only, even though they offered shrimp on several dishes on the menu. ?? He suggested shrimp quesadilla as an alternative. So I reluctantly agreed and asked for them on Flour tortillas. He brought out corn tortilla shrimp quesadillas with those tiny freezer shrimp that taste awful and chewy. I had to ask again for flour quesadillas and he brought out the disgusting tiny shrimp while I watched my date eat big full sized shrimp with his plate. Also the beans taste like ranch style beans…out of a can. I have been to many restaurants in this area and all were capable of making fresh borracho beans, but this thick goop was not up to par at all. It was a bad experience and the food was not tolerable and absolutely not worth the price they charged for frozen junk shrimp (which had the excrement still in tact in its back). I will definitely not return and would tell anyone who asks to avoid this restaurant (or at least this location).
It’s nothing more than fine, and the girl behind the bar was rude about me inquiring about ordering a drink at the bar with them before I left(I had already closed out with my server and just wanted to quickly sit and enjoy a drink by myself).
Loud, compact interior that looks decent but the service and food is constantly mediocre. Way too expensive for lack of quality or good service. Too many better texmex options elsewhere. An extra star for the location and decor.
Arrived at 530pm on a Sunday. No hostess in sight. We sat ourselves. Proceeded to wait another 5-10 minutes for menus and water before receiving a waitress. Food was okay. Rice and beans lacked flavor. Just thought at $20-$30 a plate.. food would be memorable. Sadly not. We also waited another 15-20 minutes just to get the check. Best part of the night was the $5 margarita. Other than that, not worth it. wouldn’t drive out of my way and spend $70-$100 on a mediocre night.
I went with family to celebrate father day early and they had every seat available in the main dining room but mgt said they couldn’t accommodate us because they only had 2 waiters. I explain to mgt that we drove over 1 hr and we have eaten here several times. She told me she couldn’t accommodate 20 people and next time call and reserve seating. We only had 10 people I told her! I explained she could break up our party if needed and we are not in rush . I even explained that to the bar waitress when I first walk in and she told me seat down when I walk in and explained we had 9 other people, there was no issue then ! So what was the problem because my wife was white? SMH !
Sat at the bar and service started off nicely with initial drink order, appetizer and entrees ordered with ease. Second drink order for espresso and baileys never delivered or acknowledged. Bartender ignored us for the remainder of the time there. Never checked on meal, never offered additional drinks, never applied eye contact or attempted any type of service. Other patrons received through service and engagement, particularly a gentleman who appeared to be a “regular “ of the bartender who sat adjacent to us. Will not return or be a promoter of this establishment .
Ordered fajitas $28 on menu for beef. Received check and it was twice the price. Asked to speak with manager and Olivia a team lead came to the table and we explained our bill was incorrect. Olivia did end up adjusting the bill to reflect the menu price but took our leftover box and kept it because that is supposedly their policy. She said we ordered 1 lb of beef and it’s more expensive but we ordered beef fajitas as stated on menu for $28 (didn't specify a poundage when the order was place - didn’t know we had a choice) . She took our leftovers to trash them. Would have been nice for her to bring a scale out to see how much beef was in our to go box before she threw it out. Worst customer service I have ever received! By the way our server was new and it was his second week on the job. Lost regular customers May 18th.
The food was horrible worse place to eat Mexican food. I order a shrimp salad the shrimp had no flavor was over cooked for 20.00. I cook better at home.
Let me say I NEVER leave reviews good or bad hardly ever, but this was needed!!!la fogata is not known for the best Mexican food in San Antonio. However, the margarita at the Vance Jackson location, rim location (AMAZING!!)the Austin highway location terrible; it tasted like puckers watermelon I felt like I was 17 at a high school party! The waitress was rude and had us waiting for 30 minutes forgot my 2nd drink, I had to stop the manager to grab it. I know La fogota is a staple of San Antonio however, avoid this one at all costs!
We tried to dine here several times and the service has always been slow and inconsistent. I placed an order over the phone and had to repeat myself several times. They said 15-20 min. I gave it 30. Showed up; order had not been placed. Had to wait another 15, they offered no discount. When unpacked at home , discovered order was missing items. It’s unfortunate because we love the location and the ambiance. We’re on year 3 of trying this place and they can’t get it right.
Used to be one of my favorites. But the Arrachada my brother had Wednesday was SO disappointing. It was supposed to have sautéed onions, bell pepper and tomatoes. None ! Only bland meat. And the hostess/server was too busy to be polite.
We arrived… No hostess at the podium to seat us. “Oh, just sit wherever you like!”- female employee. It was dead… hardly anyone in there. Then we found out firsthand why that was the case. They brought menus to our table… and after about 15 minutes, no one even came to take our drink order. We got up and walked out. “La ForgotAboutUs” would be an appropriate nickname for this place.
Mala experiencia esperando para que nos dieran mesa mejor nos fuimos
La comida tiene buena sazón y el ambiente bien amable la gente y el staff
First time ever at La Fogata. Had not eaten lunch so was up for a good meal. Party of 2 here. We ordered sweet tea until we realized it was not sweet. Then we ordered lemonade and were told its limeade not lemonade...although its advertised as lemonade. Small things...who cares...right? No biggie. Limeade brought out....mostly water flavor. Had to add sugar to make it appetizing. Chips and salsa were brought to table...horrible salsa, very bland. Chips were actually decent. Proceeded to order the Parillada for 2! Seemed like a good deal. Sadly mistaken. Shrimp was highly overcooked. Chicken tasted like it was soaked in water, bland. Fajitas, one under cooked, one over cooked. Small cuts of fajita, not sure how to mess it up when cooking. Again, zero flavor, bland. Ribs, overseasoned with some cayenne pepper concoction that seem like the meat was cooked and the flavor was pasted on after as an "oops, forgot the seasoning. Ribs were dry. Poblano was sad and bland. Every meat had zero flavor or just horrible tasting. The most fulfilling flavor there was, had to be the sugar that I added to my own limeade. Highly disappointed. Ate food, paid, left a generous tip. I only ate food because it was something to enter my stomach for the day. Will not be going back.
