Terrific experience. Waiter was prompt, nice, friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Food came out with great timing, threat presentation and taste. Great diversity of rolls, from classics to creative ones. The place is small and cozy, but don’t let that fool you, it’s great! Love the atmosphere. Great music as level that’s enjoyable. Definitely will be back! I’d post a picture, but was too busy eating. Come, you won’t be disappointed.
Great food here, and the fusion concept works great. They do a really good seaweed salad and the sushi portions are really filling, so you're getting a good bang for your buck. (I highly recommend the pepino roll.) Everything always tastes fresh and the service is friendly. The only downside is their building is very small so they don't have many tables, and if there's a lot of people inside it can feel a bit crowded. But there are a lot of big windows, so it never feels claustrophobic.
I was not expecting much when I came here. I heard good things, but good sushi is hard to find in San Antonio. When seeing prices so low, I didn't think the quality was going to be good at all. I was proven wrong. So, very, wrong. I've been here a few times to see if it was a fluke but neigh. They time I've come the fish is top quality. It's never had an aged taste or texture. The production consistency from their various chefs is also on point. Get here if you enjoy sushi, and some really nice creative blends too.
Very nice little sushi place. I had a couple different Japanese meets Texas combos. Seafood quality seemed above average for what I expected at such a small shop. Prices are about average, but taste and quality definitely were above average. Really liked the place and will likely be going back for some more "japtex" sushi. I really liked their "taco" menu of sushi wraps. We shared between 5 people and I didn't have a single roll that I didn't like.
This place was phenomenal. The service was excellent. All of the food from the raw fish rolls all the way through the dessert was a 10/10. And for only $28 per person for AYCE it can’t be beat in San Antonio. The absolute best overall sushi experience in the city.
Never disappoints. We went here as soon as possible after my wife had our baby and could eat sushi again. Our favorite spot in town for Sushi 🔥
I really enjoyed my meal. I ordered a three fish roll with rice and sashimi, as well. The raw fish was fresh and the roll was good. The music was way to loud but it may have been set up for the kitchen staff. The dining room is simple but they keep it clean.
Favorite sushi to-go spot, has drive thru pick up available.
Sushi is delicious. Music is too loud but service is great. 10/10 recommend.
Love the bento box for lunch. Just the right amount of food
Excellent consistent flavor. After several visits to Yellow Fish I'm as impressed as the first one. Amazing flavor , consistency and presentation.12/18/2024 Great food as always but prices have increased incredibly eg. My favorite is up over 40% this makes almost impossible to recommend any more. We have great inexpensive Sushi in San Antonio even great all you can eat like UMIYA.
We’ve been coming here for years and the amazing service and food has stayed that way! Very nice and refined style inside. The Frushi Roll had strawberries and kiwi sauce and was so good even though I was skeptical at first.
We love the mix of spicy and sushi. This is a great place for Mexican sushi lovers. My husband, who is not as spicy a lover as I am, also loves the place. The food is delicious, and the portions are vast. Try the Infierno roll with scallops, it is delicious if you like spicy! You should try it!
I love this place! The fusion is perfect! Everyone on staff is wonderful! Even the music is fun. ^_^ Great for a date night or grabbing a quick bite.
Probably my favorite sushi spot in San Antonio! Prices are a little high, but worth it and they don't offer (at least on the menu) cheaper rolls like avocado and simple fish rolls. On our last trip my fiance tried one of their burrito rolls and it definitely lived up to the name. Also EXTREMELY worth the price!!! Love the modern music and simple atmosphere as well. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!!
Me and my husband usually go to the one on Wurzbach and it never fails. The food is always fresh & delicious. We like to get the Tocino and El Dorado roll and the 3rd we randomly pick. There's never a fishy taste or smell. The service is always great.
Excuse me, WHAT!! Was craving sushi mid traffic so I added this spot in my route and it was the best decision ever. Ordered the cucumber salad - just your basic but can never go wrong. I ordered the Marmol Roll on the raw fish side and let me tell you!! The balance of fresh fish and spiciness is unmatched! I’m literally mid meal and had to stop to write this review because I was devouring it so fast. They also serve ponzu sauce on the side and I dipped in that instead of soy sauce and it was even more mouthwatering! They have a regular menu but also do all you can eat for $28! The menu does throw you off a little as it’s a Japanese and Mexican fusion concept but if you enjoy both - definitely stop by!!
Jessica was just so sweet. So help full. This was my first time coming here and I will definitely be coming back in the future
Yellowfish is one of our favorites in San Antonio. The menu's extensive and the sushi is always fresh, flavorful and consistent. The parking lot is a little small and awkward, but they have a drive-thru pick-up window which is pretty convenient if you want take-out. Apparently, they also own El Pastor Es Mi Senior - a taco shop that was featured on the Netflix series 'Taco Chronicles Cross the Border - would love to try.
This has to be the best sushi as far as freshness and flavor are concerned. Yellowfish does an amazing job blending Japanese and Mexican flavors. My favorite roll is the Cowboy Roll. It has melted Monterey jack cheese and it just so damn good. Also order the chile torredos for extra flavor and spice.
There are a lot of spicier "mex" twists on typical Sushi rolls. We mostly kept to typical rolls. The Volcano with picante scallops was spicier than expected, so saved until last to not overpower tasting the rest. Everything we ordered was amazing, except the only roll no one liked was the California roll, it was just so plain along side everything else.
This place is SO consistent! For years, this location is unmatched. The best food, the best service, it’s quick and easy and cozy and the Cevichimi is to die for! Literally the most, fresh delicious dish ever & has been for years. It’s crazy. Also, Jessica was a great server for us this trip. She as attentive and efficient
Really good experience! The staff is helpful and friendly and the variations of sushi that is available is very big and special, I had never seen sushi with plantains before and it was so good! The place is very cute and attractive as well and I like the fact that it has Mexican and Japanese touches that you can clearly tell apart in the food, it's a really good way the restaurant stands out.
My wife and I stopped here yesterday for the for the first time. Traffic was crazy so we decided to stop and grab a snack and let traffic die down a bit. Great customer service! Small place but great food! I ordered the tempuras plantano (picture attached) IT WAS AMAZING!! highly recommended to anyone. The ice cream was green tea ice cream. I’ve never liked green tea but this ice cream did not taste anything like green tea. My wife ordered a few small rolls, honestly don’t even remember what they were because I was all in on the tempura plantano lol but she said that she really liked them.
If you want a place for good sushi and some great service, this place is it! A shooting happened right next to the building, and the waitress there tonight was still asking if we wanted dessert. That is the best service ever. They will made sure to not let us leave until they said we could. As we were driving home, the first thing I said was, “That was some amazing sushi.”
Holy S***t this place is awesome. Came here for the first time cause so many friends recommended, and my god was it worth every penny. Sitting area was small but really cute, there is also outdoor seating as well. I wish I didn't get full so fast so I can have everything, but the main highlight of today's feast has to be the Texican Burrito, Holy S***t was that good. Nothing better than walking out of a restraunt with that "high" feeling of being satisfied.
Amazing sushi place Jesica took good cafe of us fast service very knowledgeable with the menu and very understanding definitely coming back
Food was really good everything is fresh they make a special soy sauce fresh every day and it's just the perfect topping! They're menu is huge so definitely something for everyone. It's a cute little spot very welcoming inside is extremely cold which is a really good thing no stinky fish smell and perfect place to get out of this San Antonio heat! Came with my daughter we ordered one sushi burrito and it filled us both and still had more to take home! Yummy and clean!
Soooooooo good! Perfect balance of Japanese and Mexican flavors, wide selection and everything is awesome! Service runs very smooth and everybody welcomes with a warm smile.
Yellow fish is always a treat anytime we visit! The sushi is always on point! You might have to wait a few minutes but rest assured that all of your ingredients are fresh and you are about to have the most exquisite and satisfying sushi hands down! The service is wonderful and the music and atmosphere is very upbeat! The building stays nice and cool! The tiny dining area is adorable! Highly recommend the El Dorado roll!!!!
This is a 25 mile drive from my house, but I will gladly be back for the most amazing sushi I have ever had anywhere in the continental US. My only regret is that I have driven past this location for years and always meant to stop in, but never actually taken the time to do so because I was usually either on my way into town or on my way out of town. I’m so happy that I finally took the time to stop in and was blown away by how amazing it was. The staff was so friendly and the place is small, but very clean and the atmosphere was great. It is a unique fusion of Japanese and Mexican that will blow your mind with the flavor combinations. I have had sushi all over the county and this is by far the best I have ever had. I highly recommend you stop in and try several things off the menu like we did. You will not be disappointed. Unfortunately, I was so busy enjoying the food that I only remembered to take 1 picture of our first 2 rolls. We had an appetizer three rolls and dessert. Next time I’ll remember to take more pictures before I stuff my face 🤣
Didn't eat inside yet, but we took food to go. My favorite is the shrimp fried rice. It's really light and tasted so good. I enjoyed the salmon and tuna sushi. Especially the fatty salmon one. My partner liked the eel roll and California roll. Will be ordering here again!!!
Truly great sushi. You might almost miss this place because it's pretty small and isn't very imposing from the outside, but step inside and you've got a very modern, quaint, and clean sushi joint. The food is outstanding and the diversity of Mexican/Japanese seafood fusion is impressive. You can simply get traditional rolls or you can try the Yellowfish originals and either way you'll be thrilled. The staff are all incredibly considerate and delightful and have made me a long-time, loyal fan of the business. As an added bonus you can order online or in their app and pick up the takeout sushi in their handy drive-thru lane. Seriously give this place a try. I’m unbelievably happy that I did.
Great little place with indoor and outdoor seating. They have an interesting flare on sushi that I have never tasted before. The staff was polite and our food came quickly. The price was slightly higher then what I normally pay for sushi but I’ve also never had this interesting take on it either. Also, in this economy and with COVID-19 I understand that their prices may be too high for some people but your missing out on some amazing tasting experience.
So I order the Kani tacos and some sushi. I paid to add cream cheese to all 3 that came in the order but just one had it. I also wrote in all the notes NO AVOCADO but everything had avocado.. if you love avocado, this is your place.. they did redo my order so kudos to you guys! The food is actually delicious
Great little sushi place! First time here and it did not disappoint. The restaurant itself was quaint, comfortable, clean, and modern. Our server was very polite and attentive. We ordered the spicy edamame, gyoza, and a seaweed salad for our appetizers. The sauce that comes with the gyoza was delicious! We also ordered the El Dorado roll, juma roll, and the el magico roll. All were so good! Woll definitely be returning!
It was the first GOOD sushi restuarant I found in San Antonio. It's TexMex but that adds to the flare of each dish. Have you ever had a sushi roll with cheese on it? Maybe not, since it could sound off putting to some people. But I assure you that if you want something on the cheaper and tasty side, then the Cowboy roll is the one for you! I've never had anything like it anywhere! It's not cream cheese either. The place is a little small, but they keep the inside clean and simple. Very nice for get togethers. I suggest this place to anyone who loves a good sushi roll! They even have delivery and to-go! Attached are some of the many MANY times I've gone there or ordered to-go. Hope this helps anyone and everyone! May your food wishes come true!
I like this place. Staff is friendly. Only reason why I didn’t give rate a full 5 stars is because the atmosphere can be off at times & the prices are a little pricey for what you get. For atmosphere, Music is way too loud & they say they can’t turn it down. It also gets really noisy because it’s really small & it’s like your sitting really close to the next table. The portions are not that big for the price, but the sushi is fresh. I say try it out. Lunch is a good time to go for the older crowd. Plus side, it’s BYOB with a small fee of course.
A good place to hang out. Food is innovating and fun. But if you are looking for a proper and decent sushi meal, not recommended. Pros: Fish was fresh, quick bite, service was good. The rolls was a mix of Mexican and Japanese interesting. Cons: Pricey for the small portion they serve 25$+ per person, Loud music.
The food here is good. This place leans toward spicy sushi. I am not a huge fan of spicy foods so I scanned the menu for non spicy rolls. They are there you just have to look. For the spicy fan, you ought to be in heaven. Will definitely revisit when in the area. You can show them that you checked in on Facebook for a free miso soup! Who doesn't like to save money?!
I was a bit annoyed that they don't serve beer and the only water is a giant bottle but that aside the sushi I'd fantastic. Nice serving size and good rice consistency. I recently moved right around the corner and I think I'll be a regular here. Love the texmex flair they're doing with the sushi, delicious and creative
Getting to this place is easy since it’s right off the street. The view from the street looks like there’s no parking and limited on the side, however, once you enter to the right of it and drive through, there’s more parking in the back behind the building. The food was good. It’s a fusion between Mexican food and Sushi. I never had miso soup with avocado before but was surprisingly delicious. It’s a small location with loud rave music so that was odd. Overall, good experience and decent place.
Cute little place with good sushi. They have a great selection of different rolls. The place is small and I loved the decor. They have a couple of tables outside if you prefer to sit outside. They also have a drive through. Our waiter was really nice and attentive. Everything tasted fresh and they have some different variations on traditional sushi.
Arrived at 8:00pm. Seated at 8:17. Part of our order came until 8:48 and at 8:55 they told us that the kitchen was closing but I asked them for the rest of our food. They bring it out and the check soon behind it. Service was mid, food was decent and the desert was pretty good. May try again when it’s not so close to closing. Still left a tip though.
Used to be one of my favorites. Today it was closed with a sign that said closed from 2 to 3. Three o'clock rolled around and nobody in sight. Even if someone showed, we'd have to wait for them to open and prep. No thanks.
I give most places three chances before I decide how I feel. On that note, its a cute place and the service is great. However, for the price, I wish the fish was better quality, but I would say that's average of most sushi joints in SA. I personally wont be going back, but I urge you all to try it out yourself. They have some creative rolls and excellent customer service.
I've come to this location about a dozen times in the past two years. As others have noted, it is pricey for the serving sizes. Be prepared to spend over $20 per person to be reasonably full. Usually the service is good, and the restaurant is clean. Music can be kind of loud but if you don't mind, it's not an issue. Outdoor seating is cute but lacks shade so in the summer it can be way too hot. Recently, I came in as a party of 1, ordered my food immediately as I sat down because I had to be somewhere in an hour. Inside restaurant was empty except for me and one other couple. I waited for ~35 minutes and asked if my food would be ready within 10 minutes. The answer was no, so I unfortunately had to leave. (I have never before in my life walked out of a restaurant. I felt uncomfortable about it, I take treating food service well very seriously because we are all people!) I only ordered 1 menu item. If it can't be served within 45 minutes, that's a bit of an issue. Google has this place listed as a "quick bite" but I would say be prepared to wait upwards of an hour to get some food, even if you order immediately when you sit down. 3 stars due to being consistently pricey and this experience. Try Niki's Tokyo Inn or Piranha at The Quarry for a better experience.
Good food. Rude waitress. They also have Trump memorabilia on display? Bleh. Probably won’t go back.
Would you like to go to a club while you eat sushi? Look the positives are that the staff were incredibly nice and the restaurant was clean. My issue with the restaurant is that the music is too loud to the point where me and my wife couldn't have a conversation let alone enjoy the meal and I'm not talking soft music. I'm talking loud club music. The sushi itself is mediocre at best. The hot foods are as if they microwaved those HEB frozen meals and served it. The food is OVERPRICED for the quality of food you get. They do not let you know that their drinks are bottled and not fountain.I wanted a water and they brought out a bottle of water to which I was thirsty so I paid $3 for it. I get it they have to make their money but if I was gonna pay for a drink I would've at least got a soda. If it seems like I'm super upset I'm sorry but my head hurts after having to endure the music. It doesn't let me do halves in the rating but overall I'd give it 1.5 out of 5 stars. I highly encourage you to not waste your time and money here. There's so many superior sushi places in town that need the business.
A group of us went Saturday night to celebrate a coworkers birthday. At least three of us had food poisoning immediately when we got home. Will not trust this place again. The sushi was decent going down, but be warned it hurts coming out! The staff was very friendly, attentive, and fast. The ambiance was also very appealing. The food tastes great, just didn't sit well.
I love getting sushi here and do not come often because its on the other side of town. And when order here I spend a lot of money. The food is always amazing but the supposedly “manager” she was really rude! I never experienced that at this location. Just wanted wanted to get up and leave and take my service else where. But since I drove 30 mins to get there so we decided to stay. I would reconsider management her as management. And I work in customer service for my career. The server on the other hand was amazing.
Place was overpriced and the food was okay. Our server was nice but new so a lot was not explained and my friend was charged when told she would not be charged for a roll she disliked. During our time leaving a female waitress questioned my friends tip and gave her an attitude and even scolded her. This place needs to do better and if you do not know something its okay to say "Let me go ask" instead of deciding on your own. And they charge for sauce without letting you know.
I used to love this Yellowfish location. We stopped going after the quality seemed to go down. It was late tonight and because of closer proximity, we decide to go to Yellowfish. I used to always get the Urbano roll so I got the same today. The size of the "tempura shrimp" on the inside was so small, there was hardly any of it. Tiny little pieces. I was basically eating rice and avocado and cream cheese. Disappointed by this and will just probably go to Sushishima next time. Picture if I can attach, you can see that it looks like there was even no tempura shrimp in this piece and it wasn't even the END piece of the roll
I came and waited almost an hour after a vet appointment. Your website lists a drive thru but it is pick up only. I called twice with no answer to order and see if I could just wait since I had my dog. The older woman who came to the drive thru window was so rude and told me to get down and just shut the window as I was trying to explain. You need to update you website to explain that your drive thru is pickup only.
Ordered through Uber eats. Spicy mayo wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. I’ve tried so many sushi places and this has to be my least favorite. Presentation is nice but the food had no flavor. The shrimp tempura wasn’t good. The California roll had no flavor. The soy sauce packets came opened and spilled in the bag.
I order delivery from here at least once a week. I ordered tonight and after an hour and a half it hadn't arrived yet. I called about it and the lady was incredibly rude and offered no one apologies about it, no explanation, just served attitude. so I just canceled the order.
The sushi is good we often get their party trays for our party’s, however last night is the last time we ever stop there after spending upwards to $200 on our visits we encountered their employee Kayla who was beyond rude. I’ve honestly never dealt with the amount of attitude she gave us. We will be taking our business elsewhere.
Sushi is really good, but the music is super loud, requested the waitress to lower it and the waitress with terrible attitude said no. Also she even told us where to sit in a very authoritative way. So if you are tired after a long day of work and want to have a peaceful dinner with your family and don't want to deal with bitter service and loud clubby music don't go there.
Come here if you want to feel uncomfortable and get bad service from the waiter and get gas station style sushi.
Terrible experience with server Jessica. She was extremely rude and tried arguing with me when they brought out the wrong order to me. I specifically asked for a soy paper wrapped roll as I cannot have rice and they gave me rice. She was mad that I had to have them redo it and tried explaining that it has soy paper inside the roll? 10 minutes later I received a Cucumber roll since apparently they couldn't wrap it in soy paper and when I tell you these portions were extremely tiny! I ordered a miso soup and these rolls and I left so hungry. I've never left a sushi restaurant hungry before. Don't waste your time or money at this restaurant. Usually hole in the walls are good, but not this place.
Update: Service has been declining and they have lost our business. I love yellowish! One of my go-to's for sushi because of all the delicious options on the menu. Everything I have tried here has not disappointed. The fried rolls, the raw rolls, the chirashi bowls, sushi burritos and tacos plates, etc. So many fun mixes of flavors because of the japanese-mexican fusion style rolls. If you're feeling daring, try the rolls with fruit on them. My top picks here are the Sin Nombre roll and the Urbano roll. Free miso soup if you check-in on Facebook or yelp!
Service is so horrifically awful! I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 8 years and the last three times (and today) I’ve come and had the same server Kayla (old lady with long brown hair) she is HORRIFICALLY RUDE and genuinely should consider a profession where she can keep her ugly attitude to herself and not ruin a family outing that was for my birthday might I add. Miss the nice young guy that used to serve here regularly! Extremely disappointed by this experience and will likely not consider dining in here again.
First time ordering and received horrible customer service. Placed an order to go; the lady that took my order and was very passive aggressive to the point she raised her voice to me when ordering. I will never order from this place ever again.
We have been coming here since 2019 and the food has always been incredible, never had an issue but today the server decided to have the worst possible attitude. As we got up to leave another table even mentioned it as well. Extremely unfortunate as I always bring friends and family for the food quality. This was Sunday Decemeber 7th at 1:30pm. Hopefully your lady server has better days.
I have been a loyal yellowfish customer for YEARS and it’s safe to say I’m never going there again. The past two times I’ve gone there, the lady who hands out the orders has been nothing but hostile towards me. The first time I waited close to half an hour for my pickup order. When I drove up, I told her I never received a notification that my order was ready and all she said was “we’re very busy” handed me my food (which was ready for who knows how long already) and slammed the window at me. I decided to give her grace, maybe she was having a bad day that day so I decided to go again today. I drove up and stood outside the pickup window for 5 minutes without anyone coming to help me. I called them to let them know I was outside and here to pickup my order. Well surprise surprise, that same lady opens the window and asked “Did you just call me?!” And I was like yeeeah and she said “if you’re going to drive up you have to be patient, I’m the only one here” handed me my food and slammed the window again. I have never experienced such horrible customer service. It’s insane. Being short staff does not give you the right to be rude to customers when all we want is the food we rightfully paid and tipped for already!
