The best brewery experience we’ve ever had. Incredible beer (given) and food, but what really made the experience was the people. Lydia was incredible and made us feel like we were with friends; so unbelievably knowledgeable on the beer/ brewery and gave awesome recommendations that we loved. We stayed till closing wishing we had come earlier. Also huge shoutout to Max and Ryo! Max made my favorite mixed beer of the night after Lydia gave him my favorite flavor profile and Ryo was so attentive when we needed anything! Thank you Ballast Point for a very memorable 30th birthday! Also, they have great heaters (in the floors) that made this chilly night feel like it was mid summer!!
Tucked away surrounded by office buildings and always has people there enjoying the various craft beers and food. You can buy merchandise, beer to go, and food here. There outdoor seating and standing tables inside the bar. I would recommend anyone wanting to try Ballast Point to come to this location. Although you may have to wait for your drink since there's large groups that come here often on the weekends.
Not only does the the brewery boast an entire page of their brews on tap, but flip the menu over to see the delicious food offerings. Not just bar food. Most foods have an element of beer in them. Opened with a pretzel. Mustard and a beer cheese sauce to dip. Moved into the mussels. Fantastic. Probably my favorite part of the meal! We then tasted the mushroom burger. It was also really good. Do opt for the truffle fries, they are delish! The meal finished with a chocolate pannacotta, with coffee undertones provided with the coconut porter. My friend even loved it. Which says something as she hates beer. And we both had a most excellent meal! I did enjoy my flight of beer as well.
8/19 - Stopped in to sample some beer. Had a nice flight with the Swinging Friar (took home a crowler), two sour barrel aged in wine casks (wonderful!), and I forget the fourth one. Katie also gave us a sample of the "Rose" barrel aged sour (again, YUM!). To snack we get the pretzel. Couldn't figure out why it tasted so different that others I've had. Then I realized it was rye!!! So, so good!!!
Expansive brewpub with a massive amount of seating indoor and outdoor. Really attentive service that kept checking on us. Brews are legendary, and they had a great selection of barrel aged flights to sample as well. Food surprisingly good. BA Piper down wings are large and full of sweet spicy flavour. Hot Honey pizza is just that: something you've never had before which is sweet and hot at the same time. Did I mention service was Awesome! 3rd Epic brewhous. in less than 2 days.
Lots of varieties of beer. We did a tasting of 4 beers and each had a different unique taste. The Sculpin and Hazy Sculpin were our favourites. Also tried the Victory at Sea (the one with Bourbon in it) but it tasted more Bourbon and less beer for me. We tried their Kombucha and they were tasty too. Got the garlic fries and pretzel breadsticks. The fries were really tasty. We had to book the table through OpenTable. Not sure if they take reservations on the spot. The waiter was friendly and helpful.
Absolutely beautiful brewery with some of the most uniquely crafted beers I've tasted. A West coast inspired, urban interior that features stunning wood and metal designs. Their menu is full of inspired dishes including recommendations for pairings with their beers. A brilliant spot for friends, family, and finely crafted pints.
We were lucky enough to be the only ones signed up for the last tour of the evening on Friday night and Tyler made it special. He gave us the full proper tour of the brewery and lots of history and Ballast Point trivia. We wrapped up with dinner and lots of tasters in the restaurant. Ballast Point never disappoints, I just wish they'd start brewing Calm Before the Storm again!
I have never been a beer person, I come from a Tequila family, but ever since I had a Ballas point scolpin IPA that’s all I drink to the point that I had to go to San Diego CA, To a tour to learn how they make it and taste all the different flavors I wish they will have it in Central America. They are amazingly good I will not drink a different beer. Their food and service is also outstanding I will definitely recommended.
Great beer here, the sampler is not only the best way to try as many beers as possible, but is probably a slightly better deal than getting full pours. The tour was really fun too, and it was free. Definitely sign up for it if you're making the trip, our guide "Goose" was hilarious and informative.
This is a must-stop for Hop Heads and Beer Geeks if you need to choose between all the breweries available in San Diego and its outskirts. As you are trying to find a parking space (since this place is so popular!), you can smell the mashing process with hints of malts and cereals. The restaurant offers seating without waiting at lunch. Meal variety is not that wide, but still every dish was carefully designed and tries to offer organic products. The kale salad is a great choice for green lovers, but be careful it is spicier than you think! Now about the brews... 44 choices were available at our visit out of the 200 recipes created annually in this brewery. From classical style such as american pale ale and witbier to out-of-the-shell brews such as a curry, cumin, cayenne, coconut and kaffir lime leaf export stout, you should find a beer that suits your taste. The key is to try different brews since the 4oz tasters are quite cheap (3 for 5$). Each glass comes with a tag to make sure that you don't get lost among all the beers that you try, what a great idea! Brewery tours lasts one hour and are a great experience to understand the brewing process and the greatness of the operations at Ballast Point. Justin, our tour guide, gave on heck of a show and made sure that everyone had a good time. The hop refrigerator was the peak of the tour: I will remember the pungent smell of the west coast hops for ages. Online reservations of the tour are strongly recommended to make sure that you have your spot out the 20 available every two hours, but if you are lucky enough (as we were!), they will let you sneak in the group even though it is full.
Great place to try some beers and have a bite. The brandy barrel aged Belgian quad was probably the best beer I’ve ever had. Delicious and like 11 percent. What more could you want. Ballast point please please widely release that one. The Buffalo cauliflower and fish taco were great too.
Ballast Point Brewing Company is one of my favorite breweries and the location did not disappoint! Everything here is perfect - the ambience, the architecture, and most importantly, the beer! I sampled their Dead Ringer, Aloha Sculpin (a summer seasonal twist on an old standby), Sour Wench Blackberry (a sour that you must try even if you aren’t a huge fan), and a Russian Imperial Stout and I was nothing but impressed. This is one of the best places to come for food and drink by far
A weekend mainstay for my friends and I. Tried most beers here. I really enjoy the Habanero Sculpin, Wahoo White and the Chai Victory at Sea. I don’t get food here too often but I did try the Steamed Mussels. It had Longfin, Clam broth, butter, lemon juice, Chicken Andouille, roasted new potatoes. Tons of mussels too, really nice to eat!
Amazing brewpub with a massive space for get togethers. While there are tables and couches to sit on, the most fun place are the tables in front of the bar. There is a large selection of all the beers that Ballast Point makes including the perennial favorite Grapefruit Sculpin. Food is excellent and there are several very healthy options. The are around is industrial but this place is all you need. Staff are very friendly and service is excellent if a bit slow during peak times.
Came to Miramar on a short trip in 2017, and was happily surprised to find Ballast Point on the map near to the hotel we were staying at. We made it a point to swing by, and it was great. The menu mostly consisted of bar food, finger food and there was plenty of Ballast Point's product on tap. Whether you are a fan of Ballast Point, good beer, or good food, you owe it to yourself to stop by.
Decided to try the Herb Crusted Local Halibut, & so glad that I did. It is a garlic and herb seasoned Halibut, garlic and white truffle mashed potatoes, broccolini, with beurre blanc sauce. The sauce and bed of truffle mashed potatoes were very delicious, and I normally don't eat potatoes! Very nice, spacious brewery. You place your order via the QR code, and it comes out promptly! Will return when back in San Diego.
Phenomenal beer selection and flights. 4x 4 oz pours at 8 dollars for most, barrel aged is 4x 2oz pours for 9. Awesome selection of many beers, and staff is very helpful. The ambience and set up is also great. There’s a fun outside space with heat lamps and a fire pit also. Highly recommend a trek
Great place to grab some great beer and delicious food. This place is huge and can accommodate any size party that you need it to. There are several bars around the venue as well. Ther is ample indoor seating and a huge patio. It a wonderful place for hosting and attending business events, large gathering, or just hanging out at the bar and tasing all that they have to offer. They have a full restaurant here and off plenty of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages besides beer. The food is great and always arrives quickly. There is tons of parking for customers, but somehow not quite enough because of how popular it is. So you might have to find street parking and walk over. Its not a problem, just be aware. Wheelchair accessible parking and entrances as well.
Brewery was great. Love the atmosphere and interior of the place. The beer was awesome ! I like light beer ,so I have tried some fruity beer and loved it ( it was under " Fruit and Spice section " called Orange- Vanilla cream ale 5.6 %. Really smooth flavor. We also ordered Baja street Fish tacos , they were delicious, as well as calamari (It was ok) and a side of truffle fries ( yummy ). Prices were really reasonable especially for beer. Server was friendly and helpful. Plenty of places to sit: by the bar , tables , event tables ,booths. Great for having events, parties or just to hang out. Love the place and I can't wait to go there again.
The food and the beer are always on point. It's nice to have a bunch of non-IPA beers to choose from. The appetizers and the mains are all good. You should expect a long wait if you go at peak hours. A fun, high energy place to spend an evening. If you need to get in and out fast it is best if you can get in an hour or so before the rush.
Visited in April 2015. We attempted to visit the establishment on India Street, but unfortunately, we couldn’t find a parking space. Consequently, we decided to head to here. On a bustling Saturday afternoon, the place was packed. We patiently waited for half an hour to get our beers and about the same amount of time to secure a table. However, this wasn’t an issue for us. The beer selection was truly remarkable. After all, Ballast Point is one of my favorite breweries. The beers were fantastic, and we had a great time.
Had a great experience here. Signed up for the tour - which was pretty standard and had two beer tastings at the end. We also got to keep our tasting glass. The options of beers in the main brewery are plenty - with tasters available for you to try multiple ones. They have some experimental beers which are made by the employees at the brewery and are pretty cool. The patio was super amazing. So was the gift shop with some pretty cool T-shirt designs.
Perfect place to spend the evening with your family and friends. Plenty of options to choose from and food are really tasty. They offer a range of locally crafted beer and other drinks. Plenty of space inside and outside for small gathering or get together. Ambience was beyond my expectations. You should definitely try this one, won't be disappointed for sure.
I’m from Seattle where we’re in love with breweries. I was at Balast Point on my last trip to San Diego with a few friends and we had a Blast. The bar tender was super nice and friendly and he took good care of us explaining different flavors. The menu was also super descriptive of the flavors. They have an interesting range of flavors. The ambiance of the place was really nice for dining and date nights. They have different sections for large groups, patios and bar seating. Totally recommended!
Ballast Point is a classic San Diego brewery. Even though some consider them a 'sell out,' this is not one of those breweries that really *feels* like that. It is a fast, busy, industrial-sized and themed, destination brewery. Everything works like a well-oiled machine with all its various interdependent parts.
I have to say this is the best brewery I ever been to! Swinging Friar ale Dead ringer marzen Calico Black Marlin porter Red right hand Espresso martini These are what I tried and they all are so delicious!!!! I also had a birra tacos which was heavenly! I highly recommend for anyone who never been to this place, don't pass this up! Will come back for more! 💜🍻
Absolutely HUGE selection of beer! The food is excellent as well. They are very accommodating and family friendly. The staff are lovely and attentive. Food and drinks came out quickly! The whole place is very roomy and accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, etc. Highly recommend! I had a group party with a reservation for about 20 people and they were all set up for us when we arrived and were very prompt with every food and drink order as well as cleaning away empty dishware as we went. I highly recommend them for any group dining events, just be sure to call ahead and reserve a spot!
Sculpin IPA indeed is some of the finest there is. Always a great time here catching up with old pals. Highly recommended to try the sampler.
Buen servicio y excelente cerveza. Recomiendo ver bien el menú antes de ordenar para ver los diferentes sets de Flyers/tasters y tener mejor precio
Me encanto, una cerveza genial, ideal para los que disfrutamos de la cerveza artesanal.
I like Pescadero Pillsner.\(^o^)/
Buena y rica comida
Deliciosa mi preferida....
Ballast Point is exactly what you expect it to be. The facility is massive, and the beer selection is large. You can tell Ballast Point ownership put a lot of money into this particular facility. They have a full food menu, as well as a beer menu broken out by style. The beers on tap are reasonably priced, but the bottles to go are just as expensive as they are at the grocery store. The quality of the beer is good, but it still doesn't justify a $14 6-pack. Also, this brewery is not dog friendly, so you will have to find a different spot if you have your dog with you.
One of the big name brewery coming out of San Diego. This location is the largest of Ballast Point Brewing, located in the heart of Miramar industrial area and it is huge! Great beer selections with some local guest beers provided as well. Personally, I like their Sculpins series, especially the Hazy and the Grapefruit. California Kolech is another recommendation as well. The food menu have many pairings that go well with the beers but some are pricy for their portions & quality. I use this location for group gatherings since it has big capacity and they usually accommodate us well. Good shareable dishes are pizzas, wings, salads etc. There are some TVs by the bar area for sports viewings and outdoor seatings as well. Ample amount of parkings in the front and on street. 4.4/5 ⭐️
I'm not a drinker so felt like coming here was a waste but came here with friends. You have to order through their online portal. Don't expect the waiters to come and get your order or you'll be sitting there for awhile. I got their burger and it was pretty good. Definitely overpriced. I don't recommend their "truffle" fries at all. Save your $2.
Impressive facility that offers all the core beers and some tasty small batch selections that get really creative and inventive. I also recommend the tour, it’s very informative and ends with beer samples inside the production facility atop a second story bar. Guides are knowledgeable and friendly!
Had an okay experience here because of the company we were with, and the food we ordered was pretty delicious. For what it was, I would say it was on the pricey side and I expected higher quality, but you are definitely paying for the ambience versus food. I will say though that I enjoyed the duck nachos a lot and would just come back to eat that again! Crisp salmon was cooked perfectly but sadly it was on a bed of cold puree and undercooked potatoes and I didn't have the patience to wait for a redo so just sucked it up . It was one of the pricier offerings on the menu so I had higher expectations. Customer service was as average as average can be, pleasant but she hardly checked back with us and no refills while we were there for the dinner rush. I don't drink but my husband and friend really liked their beer flights. Might come back for a tour and those duck nachos again.
I come here all the time and the story is always the same. The beer is amazing and the food is just okay. I have tried most of the food items on the menu and the steak burrito is the best item in my opinion. The IPA’s are all good but my favorite is the Grunion Pale Ale which is best fresh off their tap. The facility is massive and perfect for an after work get together or even a company meeting.
I had the pleasure of visiting Ballast Point Brewing Miramar and it was an experience like no other. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the beer was top-notch! I sampled a few of their beers while I was there and they were all delicious. I heard the food was excellent too, but could not get a chance to taste it. Highly recommend a visit to Ballast Point Miramar if you're in the San Diego area. You won't be disappointed!
Went on a Thursday night for a gathering. The parking lot was full at 5:30PM. Inside not so crowded yet. On busy days, the rear parking lot will open. Good selections of beer. Reasonable price. “Small bites” dishes are on the expensive side. For example, 5 pieces of buffalo chicken tenders were $16. It is almost the price of a smash burger. Maybe should change the title to “shareables.”
Update: I went again today for dinner and the pizza wasn't as good as I remember it so I'm docking a star for inconsistency but the pretzel was still very yummy Can’t comment on the beer though my husband and mother-in-law enjoyed the tasters, but the food is not only good for a brewery, but it was delicious period! The pretzel breadsticks were buttery and scrumptious. By the time I thought to take a picture, it was all gone! My husband’s favorite dip was the mustard that came with it but I think the cheese was where it was at. We ordered a couple of Cuban sandwiches and the Italian Stallion pizza. The Cuban was good but the meat was a bit dry and there wasn’t as much flavor as I’ve had with other Cubans so I wouldn’t order it again but I’d most definitely have that pizza again because we all enjoyed it, including my 2.5 yr old. Service was great and staff were very friendly.
Great space for beers! good selection. We had bar food, was a little expensive I think for the amount we received. The staff were awesome! I would come back again for the beer. They had some filming going on in the back for a food cart competition the day we visited - was fun just hanging out. Didn't realize till later there was another outdoor bar at the back and a deck ... would hang out there on a hot day for sure!
I should say, Firstly, is that I do love some Ballast point beer. I have been drinking it for some time and Sculpin has always been a go to. Going to this brewery was an experience. It is massive! A giant bar, cocktail tables, shared tables, 2 separate private rooms, a dining area, a mini store, it's a one stop shop. We got the wings and the birria tacos, and shared them. I felt like we paid a bit more for the building. The food was good, but compared to neighboring restaurants, the portion size fell short. It's OK though, I get it, and the prices weren't as outrageous as they could have been, and the ambiance is very nice. The reason it fell a star short was the service, because looking around, the owner definitely put it the work. The bartender we started with was definitely not the one we ended with. It could have been a fluke, but was one that could have been fixed with some communication. I'll still buy the beer...
Nice spot for patio dining if you enjoy an industrial vibe! The food was decent and reasonably priced. The Cobb salad was fresh and the chicken sandwich tasty, though the chicken seemed like it might’ve been the same used in the salad (supposedly marinated, but a bit bland). My boyfriend liked the beer here, which was mainly what we came for anyway. I’d recommend it more for drinks than for the food.
La cerveza es brutalmente buena Tristemente a lo largo del tiempo ha ido decayendo la calidad de la comida.
Excelente restaurante!!!
Out here visiting my brother and his family with our parents. Somehow we'd never visited any of the Ballast Point locations while out here. To sum up: 5 star beer - we had a range of styles and we all enjoyed what we got. 3 star food - mostly basing that off my pizza, which was good but nothing special. My nephew's burger looked really good if that's your thing, and my sister-in-law enjoyed her fish tacos. The pretzel bites with beer cheese and mustard were really good. My brother and my mom got chicken sandwiches and didn't really say much about them. 1-star service - mostly because it was non-existent. We sat outside. We had to order online and grab our own napkins, silverware and water. Our appetizers came out with our meals - well really, after some because our meals didn't all come out together. But overall, still worth it for the beer. In my opinion. My sister-in-law, on the other hand, says she'll never be back because of the lack of service.
This location has really lost its charm after the multiple sales. You no longer have the impressive brewery through the glass, the gift shop no longer has any unique beers, and the food menu is now pretty boring. The staff was friendly and the beer was fine but it's not the same when we visited years ago.
Firstly, if you have posted hours like 10 then you should stay open and serve until 10. Not 9:30 or 9:45. Not a great first impression and completely false information. Plenty of beers to chose from and try as long as you are there an hour before close. Otherwise your told last call already happened but you can buy cans.
The service was horrible. We order according instructed at the door. Food came before the drinks. When asked at the bar about the drinks. I was told, " they were working on them." Mind you , the ticket order was in front of the bartender. While him and a server were chatting away. Sad to have experience this while bringing family from out state. Drinks were great. The food was also good.
Place was dead at lunch but I hear it gets better. Food is your normal bar food and sandwiches with plenty of Ballast point beer. Atmosphere is the warehouse vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating. Did not like that the American flag and military flags were tattered and torn and faded... but they Ballast flag and LGB flag were the only one in good shape. Seems like a political statement and I hate businesses that do that.
Review is for the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich. I’ve been to this place several times and the chicken has always been superior, it seems they changed who they get the chicken from or I just got a bad piece and it’s probably one of the lowest quality chicken breast I’ve ever had. McDonald’s McCrispy Chicken is better than whoever they are getting this from. I don’t normally do reviews but this was quite upsetting because Ballast Point has always had amazing food but I couldn’t finish the sandwich. Great Beer and Local Crafts though but they definitely gotta work on the menu for food.
So disappointed; I rarely write reviews so this says a lot. Will never come here again. The food was not good; chicken salad was barely any chicken and swimming in dressing. No servers; they have that dumb QR code where you have to order on your phone. Literally no one came by our table but to only drop off food. Not a good beer selection; all their porters and darker beers they don’t offer anymore. Kids meals were $14 (normally $7-$10 at comparable restaurants). Woof. Don’t go!
It’s my first time in this location . Previously, I’ve been to the location in Little Italy and loved the food , beer and customer service. However, in this location I was very dissatisfied . From the minute you walk in the host treats you Iike he is doing you a favor , everything is QR code and the service seems very robotic . My food arrived cold and the service is just horrible , if you are a small party they treat you like nonexistent. I really felt like my experience was very shallow overall.
