So happy we finally have a place that serves dosas like back home. The dosas here are actually crispy, fresh, and full of flavor, not the soggy versions you sometimes get elsewhere. The chutneys and sambar were really good too and tasted authentic. Everything felt fresh and well made. The place itself is nice and the staff were super friendly. Not to mention the Thursday Dosa buffet is incredible! If you’ve been missing proper South Indian dosas, definitely check this place out

Wonderful food and service. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I got the Mysore dosa with the perfect about of flavor. My husband got the paneer dosa which was just as delicious. It’s our go-to favorite South Indian restaurant.

100/10 experience. My family loves Dosa Studio, especially our little one. It's a super chill family friendly place with amazing selection of fresh south Indian food. We have also used them for catering - it was so fresh and our guests loved it. Looking forward to more family events with catering by Dosa Studio.

Good place for dosa. A bunch of types of dosa available to choose from. They also have specials each day, like chaat buffet, pani puri etc. the service was ok. The food came quickly.

The South Indian cuisine at this casual place specializes in various dosas, idli, and more. Going on Christmas night was kind of a mad house but this is clearly a popular place that aligns with the taste of the food. The masala dosas were crispy, and the coconut chutney, rasam, and sambar were fantastic, as was the sambar idli and dahi vada. Gulab jammun capped the dinner with four pieces (rare for an Indian restaurant in the U.S.) for dessert. This gora pakora had a happy tummy tonight. *** Update July 2025: It's still really good. Rasam was amazing. No problem getting a table this time.

I haven't eaten more authentic South Indian food, even in India. Ghee glistened idlis, perfectly roasted Wadas, crunchy mirchi bajji with perfectly sauted onions... boy, oh boy.... it was outta this world.... above all... the sambar was so mild and tasty with okra and brinjal, we ended up eating 2 bowls of sambar, just as is... for South Indian food, the chutneys make all the difference when it comes to elevating the experience, and the guys nailed all 3 chutneys...can't recommend enough... and to top it all... it's very inexpensive...

The weekend buffet is amazing! They make fresh dosas outside and have a little samosa chaat bar. The dosa sauces are well made and not watered down like other places, sambar with good vegetables and the tomato chutney is amazing (spicy but best I’ve had) They have specials during the week, eg dollar idlis on Tuesdays, chaat buffet on Wednesdays. For weekend buffet, arrive before 12:30!Otherwise the line for dosas gets kinda long.

New Dosa spot alert - they are upcoming and fast making their name. The Dosa could be crispier but the Vedha is hands down the best in San Diego. Soft and fluffy, and the chutneys are thick and delicious. Sambar and Dosa can be improved but they are fast making it so. Food prep has already become better than the opening week. Very tasty still. We ordered Ghee Masala Dosas (could be crispier), Mysore Masala Dosa (perfect soft on inside), Podi Masala Dosa (very very good), and Butter Masala Dosa. Always order the Vedha as it is airy, and crispy and light! Didn't get idly this time but the manager came over and let us know the Idly wasn't the best that day and instead we upgraded to Uttapums which was delicious as heck. San Idli does a better job overall but Dosa Studio has a more convenient location, and has the ambience of a good American dining restaurant. The order process is not as daunting as San Idli where you almost have to be quick to secure your food and a table. Dosa Studio is better for dates and taking families who don't want to deal with San Idli's chaos (albeit the slightly better tasting grub). 10/10 would recommend for dates.. they are also always stacked with Peanut chutney and Mango Lassi

We visited on our second day in San Diego and the dosa buffet was incredibly worth it. They serve a full spread of hot idli, crispy vada, khichadi, sambhar, rasam, and kesari halwa, plus fresh dosas made-to-order at the live counter. The chutneys were packed with flavor and the meal was very fulfilling. While the filter coffee was just okay (poured from a kettle rather than freshly frothed), the food is authentic. If you’re a South Indian cuisine fan in San Diego, this is a must-try.

Great dosa restaurant. The dosas were huge. The little side dishes and dips were ok. The price is reasonable and atmosphere is great.

We enjoyed our dinner in Dosa Studio overall. The rava dosa, idli, and vada were fantastic. However, the masala dosa wasn't crispy enough. However, the white chutney and sambar were delicious. We really liked the option to get chutney and sambar unlimited times in a buffet style.

I tried the Saturday buffet here, and it was pretty good. There was a variety of different options available. The masala dosa stood out as the best dish. However, the pao bhaji was not up to the mark. Overall, it's worth a try for those who enjoy different South Indian food options.

Not the best South Indian food, the ingredients seem low quality and there isn’t much flavor in the sambhar and chutneys or idli. They’re designed to keep costs low and hence, their pricing is pretty low. I wouldn’t recommend this spot. Try San Idli instead. I came here cos the reviews were good and the pictures make the food look good. But it is quite disappointing.

Dosa Studio was a disappointing experience overall, with only a few redeeming aspects. Dosas: The dosas were the sole highlight of the meal—crispy, flavorful, and freshly-made (live counter). Unfortunately, they were the only item that stood out. Other Food Items: Everything else on the buffet was subpar. The idly, Pongal, and other dishes were of poor quality, lacking in both taste and freshness. Even the chutney and sambar, staples of South Indian cuisine, were a letdown. The “unlimited” buffet is misleading, as the quality simply doesn’t justify the concept. Service: The service left much to be desired. It was inattentive and unorganized, which only added to the disappointment. Ambience: The ambience wasn’t much better—uninspired and far from inviting, making the overall dining experience feel lackluster. Overall, apart from the dosas, everything about Dosa Studio falls short of expectations.

This is a relatively new restaurant in the area. They serve vegetarian food and have a south Indian menu along with some chaat dishes. We went there for lunch during a weekday. It was not crowded at all for 12pm. We ordered a podi dosa (surprisingly they were out of Mysore masala in the morning itself) and an idli Vada combo. Dosa was good but the podi (masala powder) kept falling out as if they did not put enough ghee/oil. Idli was also not great. They have the chutney bar from where you can pick whatever you want. Their sambar and rasam from the bar were delicious. Coconut chutney and peanut chutney were not that great. Will surely give them a shot again to see if things have improved. Cost wise they are very reasonable. They do charge a service fee if you are paying using a credit card. Cash payment gives you some discount as well. The staff is very friendly and the ambience is also good

This place has a good concept and some good flavors, but the experience was a bit hit or miss. Service was far from friendly. Tried a chat item and it was too oily, wasn’t served with any chutney; when asked we were directed to a buffet station that only had chutney and sambar cold that actually go with South Indian dishes but not chat items. Had to ask again at the counter for mint and red chutneys that go with chat. It’s a decent spot if you’re craving dosa, but there’s room for improvement to make the experience better.

Visiting SD from Midwest and stopped here for brunch. Not recommended unless really craving south indian food and willing to have 0 expectations. Had a few things including idly, mysore masala dosa, tomato onion chilli uttappam, Pongal, and Rava Kesari. Everything was subpar in terms of taste and flavor. Sambhar was more or less similar to runny dal as you wouldn't be able to tell that was sambhar if no one labeled it for you. Idly was too hard. Coconut and peanut Chutney were salty but ok (not authentic though). Rava Kesari had some flavor with good sweetness.

We tried the weekend brunch buffet at Dosa Studio and were quite disappointed. While the vada was crispy and the sambar was hot and flavorful, and the samosa chaat made at the counter was a nice touch, the rest of the experience fell short. The chutneys lacked any tempering or flavor, making them quite bland by Indian standards. The dosa service was extremely slow, and when it finally arrived, the dosa was very small with barely any aloo masala inside. The pooris looked overly oily, and although there were several curries that would pair well with rice, there was no white rice at all, which is very unusual for an Indian buffet. We went with a lot of excitement and hunger, hoping to enjoy a hearty and authentic Indian buffet, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the expectations and wasn’t worth the price. Definitely not the experience we were hoping for.

Rating: 1 star (if minus stars were possible, I’d give that) I came to Dosa Studio after a long time to have some Indian food, and honestly, the experience was a complete disaster. First, the food quality was unacceptable. I’d Vada, and it was clearly fried in old, reused oil. The smell was horrible, and it was impossible to eat. The Puri was the same—oily, stale, and unpleasant. This kind of food is not just bad tasting, it’s genuinely unhealthy. I don’t understand how people are eating this regularly. Second, the lack of manpower is shocking. There was basically one person running everywhere—taking orders, serving food, and managing the dosa counter. Because of this, the wait time was extremely long, and the whole place felt chaotic. There was a huge line, no proper management, and no concern for customer experience. With conditions like this, I seriously don’t understand how this place has high ratings. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I definitely won’t be coming back.

Updated Review: I am updating my rating based on my last two visits in the past 6 months. The quality of food has gone really downhill in the last one year. All the items I tried are so bland and tasteless for buffet that costs 20$. I do not recommend this Old review: I went here for Thursday night Dosa buffet. This also includes idli, vada, pongal,..... Pros: The food was excellent and there are few varieties of dosas to choose from or make it custom from the dosa station. The idli, vada and dosa all are excellent and far better compared to other south indian places like San Idly or Chennai Tiffins Cons: They charge 3% extra for credit cards which is annoying for 21st century restaurant, and they didn't even tell us. My ecologist friend ordered idly for dine-in in proper metal plates. But they gave her to-go box and lots of plastic.

They serve the dosa without any chutney or sambar; instead, the sambar is kept in a buffet-style container, and it’s very cold. The staff isn’t welcoming, and the food quality is disappointing. We ordered three different types of dosa and an idli, and none of them tasted good. We took a few bites and left. If you want to waste your money, this is the place to go.

My apologies for how direct this review is but to everyone, please read this unfiltered review before coming here and this is the most honest, transparent review you will read of the buffet: Price per adult: $18.99 My SO and I are from Dallas, TX which has great south Indian food. We came here because we are big fans of dosas, idlis, sambar, peanut chutney, etc. I usually do not write reviews but I had to write a review for this place due to the high level of dissatisfaction we had. We visited the weekend buffett (very clearly adversed on the front of the store for 10:00 AM*-2:00 PM*) Reasons as to why this place got 1-star: Timing and Communication, Service: 0.5/10 -Poor timing and Communication: As soon as we got there at 9:50 AM, we waited and knocked on the door at 10:00 AM because it did not appear open. Then, the front clerk informed us that the kitchen was not ready and would open at 10:30 AM. -Significant delays in the presentation of the food to the buffet. When we came in, there were no idlis, dosas, or anything besides some curries and chutneys present. There was also a delay in tea and only water and butter milk present. We asked about the ETA and we were told "a few minutes and to place our orders for dosas (even though it says buffet)." I ordered a masala dosa and my SO ordered a plain dosa at 10:30 AM on the dot. We received our order slightly after 11:00 AM. Food Quality/Compatibility: 3/10 (generous) If I have a (D) by the food, it was delayed -Pros: Puris (D) were large, flaky, and flavorful. Chole (not delayed) was okay-decent. I actually ate the chole most with everything. Tea (D) was actually very good. Idlis were okay but dry. The dosas (very delayed) were okay, smaller, but still good flavor and texture. Only 2 types of dosas (plain and masala dosa with potato). -I actually liked the pongal. -Cons: -The chutneys were very watery and as soon as I observed that, I did not want to get them. -The other curries (bean poriyal, kadai mushroom, sambar) were alright but other than the sambar, they didn't entirely make sense in a south Indian breakfast. In my entire life as a South Indian Telugu person, I have only had sambar, chole, aloo (potato) curry, chutneys, etc. with my puri, dosa, idli, etc. but most of the other foods are not typically presented in an Indian brunch. -There was no upma. -Halwa was decent but is also not part of a classical Indian brunch. Quality for Price: -Definitely under-qualified and the price does not justify the food quality. Of note, this restaurant primarily responds to the good reviews but not to the honest poor reviews. If there is true care about the service of customers, there is more than no response or a minimal apology (like "we are sorry to hear about your experience'). If optimizing quality per dollar spent, please pick a different location. This is one of the first reviews if not the first that I have actually walked out of a restaurant and said "I do not understand how this place got 4.5 stars based on 900+ reviews."
