January 2026 I had tried many noodles soup. This lunch special chicken with scallions and the side noodles soup was truly amazing. The broth was flavorful and very authentic. Textures of the noodles were on point. I had tried better dumplings else where. The dumplings skin however, had perfect texture just not the minced meat fillings. Regardless, I enjoyed our noodle selection. Highly recommend and worth returning.
Took me 15 years to discover this restaurant, love it here! Our go to is 100% soup dumplings, do not leave here without trying them. Broccoli/scallion beef and Kung pao chicken are our favorites but I haven’t had anything I haven’t liked yet. They also have homemade noodles here, pay a little extra for those for your noddle Dishes and soups. My favorite part about eating here is there is no “food hangover” or energy crash after eating. You feel light on your feet when you leave. Also they have a great beer menu! Pricing in the image below, it’s very fair, and that might be the best part!
I’m so, so happy to be back at the Chinese restaurant! We had Chicken Chow Mein, Wonton Soup, Pork Dumplings, and Honey Glazed Shrimp with rice. The flavors were just right, not too salty, but rich and full of that delicious Asian seasoning. The servers were great, the restaurant is gorgeous, and parking was easy. Loved it!
It was a great experience, especially if you go in before the dinner rush. The best recommendations I can offer are dumplings, and the vegetarian options are really worth trying they have so much flavor. The atmosphere is very asain and western great color scheme of red. Parking is difficult to find after 7pm their is a parking complex next to the restaurant but it cost you almost $20 for 6hrs and almost $10 for 2hrs. It's worth trying, and for dessert, you can walk the same plaza for Boba, ice cream, shaved ice treat, and waffle treat.
Another fantastic dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. This family owned business has been in business for a very long time in San Diego. I remember when they were in a smaller restaurant in the same complex. Asides from the great food I really love there service especially if you have leftovers. Most places will not pack it gir you but here the staff will do that for you. 1. Xia Long Bao, Soup Dumplings "XLB" ( Dumplings filled with Broth. Napa Cabbage and Green Onions) 2. 'Spicy Pork with Eggplant in Garlic Sauce 3. Vegetable Crispy Pan Fried Noodle (Sharghai Shyle crispy noodles) 4. Salt And Pepper Calamari 5. Broccoli Beef
Great lunch at Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Saloon! Love the interior ambiance of the restaurant, very open and comfortable. We ordered the fish and chive dumplings, shrimp chow mein, and lamb chow mein with house made noodles. All was really good but the house made noodles was a highlight. Great service, the food came out quick. Nice Chinese restaurant on Convoy Street, recommend!
We originally were going to Kura Sushi next door but they had a 2.5 hour wait so we decided to try the Dumpling Inn. It was busy and also had a 25 minute wait but the three of us were able to get seats at the bar immediately. The bartenders were extremely helpful and nice. They gave us good descriptions and took the time to talk to us even though it was very busy. The dumplings were fantastic 😋, we also got pot stickers. We are waiting for our deluxe rice and orange 🍊 chicken 🐔. Also, a quick tip. The potstickers and dumplings come out pretty fast were as entrees take longer. So if you're hungry do a few orders of those first.
Really enjoyed the dinner here. We had a group of 4 and shared a few dumpling dishes to start. The pork and chive dumplings were amazing! Parking is a little tight as this area is very congested. There is a parking complex behind the restaurant that charges $2/hr. I had the Chinese sausage fried rice and really enjoyed my meal. The food comes out very fast! Order drinks and apps first before main courses.
I think I am safely going to jump the gun and give this place 5 stars. I've tried so little, but I want to come back and try much more! I sampled a couple things and already got full, but I could smell everything around me and it's smelled great. Glancing at other tables I could see how appetizing everything looked, matching the aroma throughout the restaurant. The popular XLB, soup dumplings with pork were a good change of pace to the familiar dumpling. The beef curry dumplings were delicious as well as the pickled cucumber salad; simple but tasty. 3 bucks extra you can get the spicy soup and it's a great deal, flavorful and it's quite large so you can share. The place always seems to be busy, but it didn't take us long at all to find a table and order. Free parking is usually limited but they have a paid structure near the restaurant. I’ve passed this place up for years going to other restaurants, but I am glad that I finally chose this place to test. Next visit we will get full on meals and try the other options on the menu and I could only assume the food gets better from there.

Delicious food- noodle soups and dumplings. We enjoyed a wide selection of the menu, as well as a warm jasmine tea. Service was mediocre, table was sticky and not cleaned well when we arrived.. but they seem quite busy on the weekends. I would come back again!
Parking in the lot is free the first 2 hours. The parking structure in the back is not free. When we sat down, I was not impress with their menu. I expected more dumplings for their name, Dumpling Inn. Instead it’s more of Shanghai Saloon with the food mainly fell under drinking food. The food came out fast and I was surprised on the taste and quality. Pickled cucumbers - to my surprised, they were not sour, pickled or taste like vinegar. Seasoning was light and refreshing. Definitely not with dark sauce. Honey glazed shrimp - meant to order honey walnut shrimp but this was our favorite. Big battered shrimp with a bit of sweet and chili sauce. Crispy pan fried noodles- the description said crispy noodles. Wrong. I was expecting pan fried crispy noodles instead it’s the birds nest. The noodles did not taste stale, tons of veggies with very light brown sauce. A but bland but better than salty. Soup dumplings - The wrappings were thin, not much liquid, so it wasn’t juicy but the pork was soft and semi bland. I’m okay with that once you dip. Not the best but not the worst. This place has been around for a very long time. Glad we finally stopped in but it’ll be our last as there are so many others with the same concept to try. 3.5 round to 4.
Came here around 6pm Friday night with no wait for a table although it was starting to become busy after we arrived. It’s a pretty good Chinese American dinner place, would come back again for informal outing with family or friends. The XLB had nice thin skin, juicy, and flavorful but the texture was a bit rubbery as if it had some starch fillers, no the best XLB I’ve ever had but decent. It didn’t come with Chinese vinegar as is usually traditionally served with but instead white vinegar and soy sauce by the table. The cashew chicken was my favorite with some crunchy watercress and cashews and a sweet bean sauce. The shrimp and veggies over rice was pretty standard, it had canned mushrooms instead of fresh but tasted okay. Overall, affordable and comfy meal and nice atmosphere.
Came here after recently seeing this restaurant acclaimed on Instagram as maybe the best dumpling place in San Diego. The parking situation is a little anticlimactic but is basically the same in this Convoy Street culinary district. Really liked the interior design and service. I appreciate the wide variety of draft beer options. Good amount of food options. Deluxe chow mein was very good. Ordered "Hot Oil Wontons" per our server's recommendation since they didn't have Shumai and that's my wife's go-to; I liked it but she didn't as much. Won Ton Soup was good too. Regarding the soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), I've had them in multiple places and thought these were just okay (my fave in SD are from Hi Dumplings, and favorite overall from Hang Ah Dim Sum in Santa Rosa, CA). Would come back for the experience, come with friends, and to try more food.
Experienced a delightful dining experience. Arrived at 6:45, and the wait time was less than 15 minutes. We ordered four entrées, which included mouthwatering orange chicken, succulent honey glazed shrimp, flavorful vegetable fried rice, and savory shrimp chow mein. My husband and son started digging into the fried rice before I could take a picture. There was more than enough food to satisfy the three of us, and we even had leftovers to take home. They also have an excellent and extensive whiskey collection.
We were quickly seated and served. Delicious glazed shrimp dish and salt and pepper squid. Great service. Atmosphere is pretty loud due to number of people. Luckily no music adding to noise.

Long standing patrons of dumpling inn. Brought friends that have never experienced Convoy so we thought this would be a great place to set the standard. I have never been more disappointed in the service as the server knew nothing about the menu nor didn’t care. He also made it clear he forgot to put our food order in as he scrambled to bring items out. The food was amazing but the service really ruined the Dumpling Inn experience we have always been accustomed to. Very unfortunate
Been wanting to go there for awhile... Came on Xmas and it was so busy that they were no longer placing people on the wait-list.. Finally came back a few days after and was slightly disappointed with food even though it was very reasonably priced. Dumplings were pretty average, and walnut shrimp was also pretty ok. I did like the ambiance and bar in the middle, the place looks fun to socialize but maybe not the best for quality food. Maybe my expectations were too high because the place always has an insane wait.
This is a nice but casual place to eat at. The place seems to be split into two different themes, though the Dumpling Inn is more decorated. I sat at the bar on a Sunday afternoon and was not met with any wait. My food came out within 7 to 10 minutes of being ordered too. The Deluxe chowmein was one step above fast food chowmein. I can't say the shrimp had any flavor. The chicken, pork, beef and noodles were the real flavor carriers. The noodles had a salty greasy flavor and texture to them(and I mean that well). I enjoyed it. The plate was full but still expensive for the price of $15. Can't say there was anything distinguishing about the taste. The Pork dumpling was good too. There was no real flavor to it but was more like the water that steamed it. Still, I enjoyed it dipped in soysauce. The place itself is nice, but by no means a fancy date spot. The place is large, fast and loud. Plus the ceiling is tall so everyone echoes all over. I would recommend this place for a relaxing time, good food and nice bartenders. They were helpful and attentive without intruding on you every so often. I did not order drinks here but looking around, everyone seemed to be enjoying well made cocktails. The only gripe you may find is the parking, as other reviews have mentioned. It's hard, even dangerous to find parking in this "roundabout" parking lot. It's best to park on the street.

Second time visiting. Was first here a few months ago and the experience was very good. Food solid and the service was friendly. This time, we felt rushed and the check arrived before we could even order another drink. The food was lukewarm, the potstickers barely had any pork and the Orange Chicken lacked flavor. The drinks had way too much ice and you could barely taste the alcohol. This will sadly be our last visit.
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Our server was extremely rude and actually raised their voice at us when we politely mentioned that we didn’t enjoy what we ordered. Instead of trying to help or offer a solution, they became defensive and made us feel uncomfortable for simply giving honest feedback. Instead of handling feedback like an adult in the service industry, they became defensive and made the situation uncomfortable and awkward for everyone at the table. Management seriously needs to address the behavior of their staff, because this kind of treatment drives customers away. Based on this experience alone, I would not return or recommend this place.
