Spotted this corner gem the other day and finally checked it out around 12 on a Sunday. At their peak hours you can still grab one of the many large tables and enjoy some amazing coffee. Their menu is a delicious take on traditional Mexican with fresh options such as the open faced bruschetta style bagel. The vegan tamales, chilaquiles (vegan available) and the scramble are bomb . Perfect for a lazy morning and accommodating to all who love food.
They definitely know what they are doing. Amazing and friendly staff. Breakfast and coffee both good 👍 I was in San Diego for 7 days and ended up going mostly every morning.
A hole in the wall that's off to the side and features a very friendly staff, clean and inviting atmosphere & delicious freaking food. I had the Big Sur French toast to go and when I got it home the intention was to cook a couple of sausage patties to go along but I foolishly opened the box and caught a wiff of the scent and it was over at that point. I've never had a meal in my life where the bananas and strawberries actually came together to make the meal taste better except for this place. In short I stood there in my kitchen (not sitting) devouring this French toast and the sausage still never had a chance to hook up with the skillet. Besides what you've just read it seemed like the customers themselves were very nice and personable because this lady named Julie that I met would not let me get away without petting her little dog and she and the dog were very nice individuals. It's rare when I get to say such a thing and enjoy it but this place is worth your time and money so please give them a try just for the sake of friendly customer service and very good food.
“Mystic Mocha in San Diego is a hidden gem! With its artistic vibe, serene outdoor seating, and a menu full of delicious options, it’s the perfect place to unwind. Whether you’re a coffee lover or just looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy breakfast, this café has it all. Don’t miss their creative lattes—they’re as unique as the atmosphere!
Best foodplace during my roadtrip so far. The coffee specialties are beyond fantastic (I am a huge coffee lover - and have plenty of cafes to compare), the tamales is so tasty and made with jackfruit which is amazing for every vegan/vegetarian person like I am, the vibe is great, the service excellent. I will finish my coffee now - and I am grateful for such a wonderful morning. THANK YOU!
Mystic Mocha is hands down my favorite coffee shop in San Diego. Creative and delicious coffee drinks, wine/beer, and breakfast sandwiches/burritos. Plenty of vegan & gluten free options which is perfect for me. The atmosphere and overall aesthetic is relaxing and cool. I never came here under the last ownership, but from what I can tell, the new owner, Izzy, has revamped and upgraded everything- I'm not surprised that it just won Best Café in San Diego Magazine. If you're in the area, definitely make this your go-to coffee spot, but if you're not, it's well worth the drive.
My son is in a very short 2hr preschool in normal heights so I usually take my other kids to trolley barn park while we wait. Came here today and it was so relaxing but energetic. I came with my 3year old son and 10month old in a stroller. Indoor and outdoor seating. Barista customized my drink to add coconut because duh! My son and I also loved the zucchini muffin. Will be back!
I have been here a few times and seen the same cook who also happens to be the owner and I’m pretty sure the same barista. Every time I go in, I feel welcomed. Very welcomed and the chef REALLY knows how to craft the PERFECT Bacon, Egg & Cheese! First time I came, I had ordered the Chilaquiles but wasn’t too impressed by the flavor of it. My wife ordered the BEC first and the first bite into the sandwich and I WAS HOOKED! 2 visits after, and the flavor IS STILL CONSISTENT! The atmosphere is so inviting, and the employees as well as the owner ( His picture is located at the end, book and wall ) have been so sweet with every interaction. The coffee was just as sweet! I had the Jack Torrance Iced with the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese, and I think it’s the perfect combo. Seating is provided inside and outside. Inside Mystic Mocha, they have outlets connected in certain areas, so you may be able to do some work. Outside, they have table conversations that are fun while you wait for the food or while you are eating. Parking is a little strange. I do have a posted picture, and the opposite side is the TUESDAY. I did park on one of the days there, and all the customers were kind enough to point me in the correct direction and not get a ticket, so I AM FOREVER grateful. This cafe is an easy recommend and I can’t stress that enough. Good coffee, great food, and even greater staff and ownership.
I ordered a chai latte here, and it was solid with a good balance of spices and tea flavor. The bartender was excellent and and skilled. They did the best foam of the oat milk I've ever had!! A nice perk was that milk substitutes are free, which I always appreciate. For the location, it's located in a corner with limited parking, but the roads around it are relatively quiet which is nice if you want to enjoy the seating outside.
Came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Was able to find an outdoor table. It’s a small cute cafe, and even with the good reviews on google, I didn’t have high expectations for some reason. I was pleasantly surprised. The dishes didn’t look that special but both the scramble and sandwich were very tasty. The sandwich buns were nice and warm. Latte was good but not amazing. They had a solid selection of hot sauces which added to the fun. Would definitely eat here again.
Awesome! Fabulous! Neighborhood maker! I’m not sure I have the eloquence to fully describe my love and luck for living near this gem! To start- great coffee, great vibe, great people. Then add dog friendly, vegan friendly, vegetarian friendly and local business friendly. And we don’t stop there… now mix in good music, fun decor and lots of awesome sun filled picnic tables. Oh and if you are around later there is also beer and wine available. But what I like best is the thought behind everything they do- from fundraisers for childhood cancer and Christmas presents for an orphanage to organic options and supporting local options for their drinks and pastries. Eat and drink here to feel good and enjoy good tasty bites;) feed your soul and your belly!
This place is awesome! What a great little neighborhood breakfast/lunch/coffee shop! The service is excellent, staff is very friendly! The food is soooooo good! If you find yourself wandering around University Heights, stop in and check it out! Also they are dog friendly!

Such a welcoming and enjoyable place to visit. I got the Irish cream and vanilla latte, which was just right. My wife really enjoyed the matcha green tea, which are usually hit or miss at other places. They have some really cool merch too!
Mystic Mocha is my favorite neighborhood spot to visit. I've been coming here for years and Izzy is an amazing owner, chef, and person. Everyone who works at Mystic Mocha is friendly and the food and drinks are always amazing.
A total gem in University Heights. Great customer service, warm smiles and an atmosphere that’s friendly and inviting. Not the closest coffee shop to our apartment but we make time to visit MM because we love them.

Mystic Mocha has got to be one of my favorite coffee spots in San Diego. Great drink selection, and their breakfast is amazing. The staff has always been great and friendly, and you can tell the chef cares and takes pride in his food. Also, they have donuts! Just saying. I highly suggest The Jack Torrance!
Nice neighborhood corner cafe. It was hard to resist ordering breakfast because it smelled so delicious, but I had already eaten that morning and I just wanted a cup of coffee, while I waited for the rain to slow down a bit. The service was nice, the place is tiny but very quaint, and there are tables outside. It looks pretty popular with locals. I'll come back for some eggs in the future.
Nice tables outdoors and a few inside to enjoy an omelet or egg sandwich or french toast all which were delicious. Recommend the White Mocha. Great service, food brought to your table after you order at the counter. Finding parking was a challenge
Better than I thought it would be! There is no shortage of coffee shops in SD. This one is a good. Heads up it’s wall to wall dogs. Not saying that’s a bad thing but not everyone loves dogs. The breakfast sando has an “I can make this myself feel” but that’s what I want. It feels lived in. Cozy. I’d take my friends that visit SD here after a night out for a hangover recovery. Service was great. It was busy but was treated with patience.

This is such a cute neighborhood cafe. Chill vibes and dog friendly! I've gotten the breakfast burrito and the breakfast sando, and they both were really good. The coffees are delicious and never disappoint. Definitely an underrated spot to eat and grab a coffee. Only disappointing thing for me is every time I've gone, the staff is super unfriendly. They always seem to have a really bad attitude like they're so annoyed to be helping you. I waited to order as one of the servers was texting on their phone. When they finally looked up, they just sighed and said, "yeah." I ordered one of their coffees but asked for no white chocolate syrup, to which they said "that's really weird, but ok". And that's been the kind of vibe I've gotten from them every time I've gone-really annoyed, curt, and uncomfortable. Fortunately their food is really good so I just try and ignore it. The food is worth it. Would've given it 5 stars but I had to take off a point for the unfriendly staff
Ordinarily this place is five stars but they were pretty slammed today. They called my name and put up a coffee that looked like it could be mine so I walked up to counter, said thank you, waited a couple beats, and when no one looked at me or discouraged me I grabbed my coffee and walked out. I don't think this was my coffee. But I have Nate Bargatze levels of coffee shop anxiety so here we are.
