I knew the second I walked in, that the food was going to be stellar! That old time, home cooked cafe smell, hits ya and your mouth starts to water. We had the pleasure of being served by Corey (hope the spelling is correct.) He was delightful!!!! So friendly! It’s that extra touch that makes a place like this so unique! If ever in San Diego, I highly recommend stopping here!!! You won’t regret it!
Such delicious food, with no pretense. Real “down home” cooking. Not fancy at all; very old diner food feel. A very nostalgic experience!
Fabulous find while in San Diego for a wedding! Sat at the counter and enjoyed French toast like we used to make growing up. Also had a delicious omelet with mushrooms!
Great food, standard diner breakfast that warms the soul. Awesome environment, you can tell they are very involved in the community, helping the food bank next door and they had people gathered in the back, I asked the waitress about it and they were holding an AA meeting. Loved supporting local. And great prices!
Absolutely love this little Ma & Pa restaurant in SD. Felt like I was back home at my grandparents house as a little kid. I had the chorizo and eggs plate with some homemade salsa and it was delicious. 10/10 recommend if you’re in the SD area!
Nothing fancy but great service and good food. My son was thrilled that the weekend special was eggs Benedict. Seemed like most of the customers were locals. The strawberry rhubarb jam was amazing and they even had gluten free toast on the menu! Would def go back!
Amazingly friendly place with good breakfast. We were in SD for 4 days. Stopped in here day two for breakfast and the waiter was so friendly and charismatic and handsome (he wanted to be sure I mentioned handsome in my review) 😂 we made a special trip on our last morning to have breakfast again. Huge portions, and chicken and waffles is a special every day. What more could you ask for?
Food was good, albeit, a bit overpriced unless you order from the daily specials. I love the idea of it being presented on the plate mats instead of the normal advertising. Service was quick and food was delicious. The coffee was ok.
They made an ordinary salad taste amazing. Their potatoes are so well seasoned. I highly recommend this place if you're in San Diego
Owners from Chicago, I knew I liked this place for a reason! The food is deliciously homemade style food, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant itself was cozy, and peaceful!!! I'll be back to try more menu items! The French toast was just like my Mom used to make. Delicious!!! The eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon was crispy! That's all a man could ask for! The biscuits and gravy are delicious too!!! Thanks Huddle!!! Oh yeah, I got some orange marmalade and apple butter fresh made to take home!!! Mmmmmm
The food was great, the vibe was amazing, but nothing beats the service. Everyone was so personable and kind, they made every effort to make sure we got exactly what we wanted, and they succeeded. To quote my friend, "I didn't know sweet places like this actually exist outside of books and movies."
This was a small family run greasy spoon type diner. It’s definitely one of those hole in the wall awesome places. The indoor seating may not be ideal for larger groups. We had 5 people and ended up splitting between a table and the counter, which was still really enjoyable. The whole atmosphere from the staff to the local regulars made the already delicious food that much better. The staff even had fun joking about with us once they learned we were from “Wis-can-son”. We will definitely be stopping in again before we head back home. (It’s been added to our official breakfast list if we ever find ourselves back in California) If you have the chance to stop in here I highly recommend grabbing a jar or 2 of their homemade jam to take home. I’m not usually a marmalade fan but their orange marmalade is incredible.
Great food, friendly staff and cozy vibes
Amazing little diner that is tucked away in Mission Hills! Family run, they are always there in great spirit, remember everyone that comes in regularly, the food is nice and on point for good diner American food. There is always great conversation here with them, typically some funny comments too. Recommend coming here for that good breakfast food. 👍
Corey was helpful and very friendly! Gave us some recommendations for our time in San Diego. The homemade strawberry rhubarb jam is incredible! We all loved our food, and the prices were great. So glad we stopped here!
This place came highly recommended and I gave them a try. I ordered 28 pies for my annual client gratitude gathering. I wanted to support a local Business instead of buying them at Costco. They surely did not disappoint. The pies were excellent and their service was superior. I hope this is the beginning of a New business relationship. Next time I’m in the area taking a client out for a bite, I will be sure to stop in here and support this familyown business.
I have only good things to say about this place. Classic Mom & Pop operation with excellent food & service to go with it. The thought put into the food & how it's cooked was very apparent to me. The ham was a good size & I could taste the smoke from skin 🤤. There are several jam options all made in-house. I've also never had hashbrowns cooked so perfectly. Even the scrambled eggs are cracked & combined on the spot. Biscuits & gravy were absolutely amazing as well 👍. On top of it all, everything was reasonably priced. 10/10 would go again.
There are so few old school diners today. Loved the bar stools at the counter. It’s super small, cozy and welcoming. The service was fantastic as was the food. We had a good old greasy to perfection breakfast. We left very pleased. Favorite new hole in the wall place.
My boyfriend and I stopped at Huddle for breakfast while we visited San Diego for the day. We were seated right away. We ordered French toast, chicken fried steak, biscuit and gravy, plus a cinnamon roll to go! We loved the French toast! It was delicious and thick! The chicken fried steak was different than we’re used to but good! The gravy stood out! And the home fries were good too! The biscuit and gravy was yummy! Now the cinnamon roll we brought on our way out. I wasn’t entirely excited to get it because a lot of the time I’m disappointed by cinnamon rolls. I was wrong with this one! It was very yummy! I was sad it was gone when we finished it! I hope to come back to the Huddle in the future! Highly recommended!
Tuesday special, 2eggs 2 sausage french toast apple butter. $11. So good it didn't last long. Classic diner vibe. Service is perfect and very personable.
Good food. The staff was great. The staff made us feel welcome and appreciated.
"I am home." This was exactly how I felt. My dad and I were seated right away. It was nothing fancy but it was one of the warmest dining experience I have had. This is what a classic local business looks like. Dad had their Thursday breakfast special. Again, nothing fancy, just 2 eggs, 2 sausages, and 2 pancakes. Very, very reasonable price. The portion was perfect. Definitely will come back again!

One of my favorite breakfast spots. I’ve been eating here for years. We try to go at least once a month. My favorite dish- kielbasa, eggs, and hash-brown.
The Huddle is a great no frills breakfast diner. This small hole in the wall, is a hidden gem that serves traditional American breakfast. Very cozy inside with some outdoor seating available, this place boasts mama’s cooking vibes that will keep you coming back for more.
Great food, friendly people and a comfortable atmosphere. Small town friendliness in the middle of the city. Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you. This place is a can’t miss!
This was my second visit to The Huddle. My first visit was for breakfast and this time was for lunch. I enjoyed the choices available for both. The food is quality, home-style food, made by friendly, welcoming servers and cooks. This is family owned and the diner has many local regulars, which is a good sign. The Battered Fish Sandwich was delicious.
Some of the nicest people you'll meet serving some of the best tasting and reasonably priced food you'll ever encounter. They are dog friendly and offer outdoor seating. The homemade jams and marmalade are amazing - you have to try the Strawbwrry Rhubarb! We were in town for 5 days and ate breakfast there 5 times! Say Hi to Ruth for us!
My queen and I stopped here for breakfast, well, our second breakfast, but breakfast in Pacific Time. Lol. The customer size was medium since there were some tables full and some tables empty. I noticed that some of the empty tables were dirty, but I was unaware of how long the tables had been empty. An elder male sitting at the counter recommended the pancakes, which I ordered and enjoyed! By the time I began enjoying it, the elderly male had left, so I was unable to thank him for the advice. The smoked ham was tender and the eggs were great! If I'm ever in San Diego again, I'll return!

Great little breakfast spot in one of San Diego unique neighborhoods. Good food, great people, dog friendly.
I have found my San Diego breakfast place and there shall be no other. I always look for a small family run place to eat when I travel and this is just that. Check out the photos for the history of the place. Warm and inviting people working there. Well made food with generous portions. Excellent value. I had the ham, mushroom, onion and cheese omelet and added a side of sour cream. Home fries and sourdough toast. I ended up taking home a jar of homemade strawberry rhubarb jam.
Amazing food, great prices, really great and friendly service. We love this spot.
Stumbled upon this during a trip to San Diego. Everyone was so friendly. Hole in the wall family diner. Reminded me of growing up at my grandmother's house. Was a little chaotic, but that was the charm. Food was delicious abd made with love. Will be definitely be back!
One of a kind restaurant, you get the real deal here. The prices are fantastic and you get a home feel with the customer service and atmosphere. A place you bring close friends.

Light-hearted and fun banter when the order was taken. The apple butter was outstanding. The only thing bigger than the flavor of the apple butter was the waiters opinion of himself. Great food at a great price. You should eat here and do so frequently.
Very homey place, their staff is older, hard working, nice people. Food was delicious, coffee was solid. Felt a little pricey though and price on the check differed from the price on the menu. Will come back to check out their baked goods.
Good old school dinner place. Friendly staff, both times I've visited, I was seated immediately. Breakfast /lunch options. Fried chicken and waffles was good, but greasy. Pastrami sandwich was initially really dry, but asked for thousand Island which improved it. Comfort food kinda place. Will return when in the area.
I would describe it as a Tiny greasy spoon diner. Classic American diner food, great for hangovers but a little heavy for everyday eating. The space is very narrow so there are only 1-2 tables for large groups. They had a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk too. Overall it’s good if you are in the area but nothing impressed us enough to come back.
Walking into The Huddle feels like stepping straight into a time capsule ... nothing but the prices seems to have changed in the last 30 years, and I absolutely love that. It’s the ultimate neighborhood diner with servers and cooks teasing each other behind the griddle while greeting regulars and even the furry dog patrons outside. Everything is classic, comforting breakfast goodness, plus they sell their own jams and seasonal treats like pies and holiday cookies. If you’re craving a true old-school diner experience, this is the place.
Our friend Lizzie suggested this breakfast place near her home and in her neighborhood. Very homey no frills restaurant. The story behind the restaurant is remarkable with the owners always helping the community by providing food and groceries especially those with AIDS in the earlier days. Love how the place looks still in time and has not changed much. There is a comfort in that when eating! Breakfast was solid, huge portions and great price! A place where you go for simple basics such as corn beef hash or chicken fried steak or maybe just bacon and eggs! Excellent friendly service. Street parking avilable.

Not very good food and we had to wait a long time for our meal and there were only a few people in the restaurant
If you want just mid level diner food this is a good local option. The below the border omelet was 90% beef and 10% egg. Not what I was looking for. They gave us tiny water cups and never refilled them. The servers were friendly just not that attentive.
It is a family owned business, small and handmade mostly everything I believe. The diners are requested to keep the volume down to respect other diners. Very friendly but expect to wait longer time due to family own business.

Not a clean, cute and cozy diner as expected from reviews. Very basic food . Cory is a very nasty man who should think about another profession! Bullied me because the waitress double charged my card. Noone knew how to rectify the problem. Still waiting on a refund that my bank is disputing. Use cash if you go. San Diego has so many wonderful restaurants, this is not one of them. World traveler from San Francisco, I know the difference.
