What a wonderful experience from the hostess to the food. We had a reservation for two and we showed up on time, our table wasn’t ready , so hostess went to clean it and set it up quickly she also made sure that we are warm , so she brought us a heater. Our waiter (I’m sorry mister we didn’t catch your name) was professional and knowledgable. My friend asked for two wine taste and she didn’t like any of them, so bartender came to us and she helped with correct choice. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Food was delicious. I’m looking forward to come back for lunch.
If there was a 6th star to give, 54 Mint deserves it. I came to this restaurant based on others Google reviews, and I must say, this is now one of my favorites in the bay area. The attention to detail in the food and drink menu is nothing short of perfection. An excellent selection of everything you would expect to see. For a drink, I chose the barrel aged manhattan. Although the price is considerably higher than the other drinks, the flavor is pur perfection in a glass. For my main course, I chose the Rigatoni Carbonara. The pasta is made in house, and done to perfection. The sauce, to me, is a more of a house twist on the traditional carbonara sauce comparatively to what Ive had in Italy, but it lacks nothing in flavor. Perfectly balanced and with a portion size that leaves you full by the end. However, I couldnt skip dessert ;) For this, I chose my favorite. The wonderful Tiramisu. An absolutely perfect dessert for this delicious experience. The dessert could not have been made better. The entire culinary adventure was a treat tonight. I highly recommend anyone to go and try out 54 Mint. You'll be glad you did.
(Copied from my yelp) Went here for a more romantic dinner my last night in town. Amazing service. Our server and other waitstaff provided great recommendations, anything we needed (new plate, more water, wine topped off) was taken care of immediately before we even asked. We order a bottle of brut sparkling rosé, the Torta Rustica to start, Tonnarelli Cacio E Pepe, the Pollo Con Pepperoni, and chocolate cake. While we went for a romantic dinner this place seemed great for groups as well.
absolutely incredible experience. service is amazing and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu. really adds the cherry on top when they say “bon appetit” before you dig in! i had the wild striped bass and it was fantastic, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. only here for a few days, so this was a really great experience! thank you.
A fantastic experience all around. Chicken dinner was above recent experiences. Even the lager beer was superb.
Wonderful spot for a date or to bring the family. For being in SoMa this spot does not have the classic techy SoMa crowd which is great. All the ingredients are fresh and the pasta homemade. The vibe is amazing with some shared tables.and an underground seating area that takes you into another world.
I think I'll have some celebratory Ravioli at the 54 Mint Ristorante Italiano because I just scored a vintage Stacker Hangwoggler from a craigslist seller that called himself Kid Kool. I asked him why he's selling it, and he said he needed to part with it so he could buy a gold chain for his neck. I told him his friends are going to steal it from him, and he was okay with it as long as he knew where it was. Who doesn't love Ravioli, especially when it has the deep richness of a perfectly cooked bolognese sauce with Italian sausage and a hint of fresh fennel...WOW! ☆☆☆☆☆ 54 Mint Ristorante Italiano is the place for me when I just have to have perfect Ravioli.
Cannot beat the ambience, reminded me of Italy! The food, service, drinks, all excellent. I have dietary restrictions and the wait staff was very knowledgeable and pointed out things in the menu that I could eat. I had the market fish with squash and spinach, which was simple and tasty, my husband had the gnocchi which he said was the best he’s had, light and pillowy, our son had the cacio e Pepe, with fresh pasta which he said was delicious, and his friend had the steak, which he said was great but would have preferred a smaller portion of a nicer cut of meat, than the big piece he got. Tiramisu and gelato rounded off a fantastic meal. Watermelon mock tails were a hit.
I was in town for an audio class walking distance from this place. This was a very peaceful, pleasant, refreshing place to eat dinner alone at the bar. The bartender was very friendly/personable and the service was good. Also, the food was delicious, fresh and interesting. My favorites were the octopus and the pesto gnocchi, but the fried fish appetizer was unique and worth trying too. I’m a very healthy eater and the food was light enough for me - not heavy or overly rich like some Italian food. It’s also a visually beautiful place to sit and relax. It was nice to get a break from the harshness of San Francisco and be somewhere that feels good to sit and eat.
MY FAMILY & I WERE IN SAN FRANCISCO TO REPRESENT MY HOMETOWN NOLA SAINTS AS THEY PLAYED THE 49ERS. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT AND THE DRINKS WERE BOMB! THE VIBE & AMBIENCE WAS VERY CHILLED. THE MUSIC WAS GREAT! THE WAIT STAFF WAS REALLY NICE HERE, AS WELL. I GIVE THEM 5 STARS, MOST DEFINITELY!
Underrated hidden gem restaurant in SoMa - can get busy, so make reservations, but there’s bar seating available too. Great service and staff, delicious no fuss pasta. Reasonably priced for SF. The octopus is delicious; I didn’t love the arancini and the pastas are perfectly cooked. Desserts also delicious.
Fantastic Italian experience at this quaint gem. The service is impeccable and prompt, the dishes were delightfully prepared, and the small restaurant is lit and decorated to ensure and enjoyable meal. We started our evening with the house bread basket and olive oil, then enjoyed the perfectly tender octopus (Polipo Alla Griglia). For our main courses the two of us had the halibut (Catch of the Day) and the oxtail (Coda alla Vaccinara). The fish was bright and fresh and the oxtail was earthy and rich, paired perfectly with an orange wine (2017 Nasco Bianco Terzo) and a "Mar Nero" Black IPA, respectively. We finished the evening by sharing the lemon crostata. We left in high spirits and quite satisfied!
We enjoyed an excellent dining experience here over the weekend. Arrived in the early evening just after they opened. The interior is open with super high ceilings and nice contemporary decor. We were going downstairs to what 'looks' like the basement. But, it is very nicely designed to where you have that 'secluded fine dining' feeling. Our server was quick, and very attentive throughout our meal. Food: we started with a cocktail and the Suppli al Telefono consisting of tomato risotto croquettes, molten smoked mozzarella (think elevated arancini). Second course was the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe which is long square spaghetti emulsified with pecorino and toasted black pepper. This was excellently prepared. We also shared the Bistecca ai Ferri - a 12 oz. ribeye with excellent flavor and of course prepared beautifully. This was served with spicy arugula greens and a charred Meyer lemon. Everything was very nicely prepared and presented, which made this an excellent evening.
This was my second visit to 54 Mint and it was just as wonderful as the first visit. My friends were running the San Francisco Marathon and a delicious pasta dinner was in order for them. I opted for the BiSTECCA ai FERRI (picture added) and it was amazing! It was cooked to perfection and I really didn't need to eat the whole thing but it was too good to pass up. The others ordered the GNOCCHi and it was also amazing. The atmosphere is fantastic and this is a wonderful place for a date or a pre-show dinner. I highly recommend making a reservation. The cocktails are also very good. They have wonderful craft cocktails with a full bar with just about everything you could want. There is very little parking near the restaurant but some public garages near by and if you use Spot Hero, you can get a much better rate than the standard rates.
Solo dining. No reservations, so sat at the bar, which I'm perfectly fine with. I was hungry, and was just looking for drinks and comfort food - both delivered to great satisfaction. Struck up a conversation with another solo diner, who says she comes here every time she's in town. This place serves proper Italian cooking - their Carbonara was on point, and Panna cotta dessert was silky and tasty. I had a nice glass of Pinot Grigio and Negroni (served over a beautiful sculpted piece of ice). Pretty I'll be back here next time I'm in SF. Highly recommended.
Came here for my best friends birthday and it was so so good. We'd been here before so we knew we wanted to reserve a table for her ASAP. The waitstaff are incredibly nice and attentive, the food came with perfect timing. The pasta is 10/10, you can't go wrong with any of them but we had the Cacio e pepe and Amatriciana. Their steak is also incredible and I highly recommend. One of my favorite restaurants in SF.
This was the best tasting Italian food I believe I've ever ordered. We had exceptional service from our female waitress. I let her order for me and was very impressed with everything from appetizer to dessert. Also, their drinks were unique and never tasted anything like them before. Love the charm of the old building medicine.
One of the best Italian restaurants in town! The "polipo e patate" was just cooked to perfection with a very tender and tasty octopus and served lukewarm as typically required. The "cacio e pepe" was also very tasty and served "al dente". The service was also good. Totally recommended!
Great Italian restaurant! I ate at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The bartender obviously cared about his craft. I had a cucumber juice based mocktail that was refreshing and delicious. For my meal, I had some croquettes filled with molten smoked mozzarella that was delicious. And my gnocchi main with beef ragu was delicious. I wish I had room for dessert. I would definitely recommend it.
We had a amazing dinner here with friends to celebrate the birthday of one if the friends. The foods here are fantastic and service is excellent. We ordered the cow stomach and grill octopus for appetizer and a few main dishes including Ravioli, spaghetti, oxtail, and Steak. I specially like their pasta for perfect Al dente cooking. Lovely environment that foster party atmosphere. We had good time here and enjoy the food and fellowship. Parking is a bit tough but the public parking garage on mission is perfect.
Had a business lunch here. The place was empty when I got there but was packed within minutes. Probably a good idea to make reservations in advance. Professional services by the staff explaining their pasta making process as well as a couple of the specials. The grilled octopus was devine with melt in the mouth tenderness. Our pasta was as good as hyped. The $19 3 course lunch was an excellent value! Overall can recommend this place.
The best of the best, we flew from Cabo to eat the steak again and the Risotto with truffle is the best in the world, it made me remember the taste of the dish that we enjoyed in Siena Italy, the attention is incredible. Tania is a super hostess, 1000 thanks and Carlos took excellent care of us. It is our second time in this restaurant because the food and the Risotto was the best for us. They make us feel very comfortable and loved… thank you very much guys!!
Had a late dinner with a friend, and the place was still full-house! Recommend to reserve a table even on a random weekdays to prevent long wait. Overall the food is good and staff are friendly. And like lots of comments mentioned already, the octopus is amazing. Definitely worth give it a try.
I dined here after attending the fluers de villes show next door at the Mint building and the food, service, and atmosphere were all amazing. There weren’t a lot of other diners there which was a shame. The passion fruit Bellini was amazing! I also really loved the beet salad and arancini.
54 Mint Cucina Romana is solid Italian food. The pasta is fresh, the sauces are tasty, and the pizzas are perfectly baked. The place is cozy and welcoming—great for a relaxed meal with friends or family.
Wonderful Italian food with great Italian waiters. The pork with fennel was unique and delish and the homemade focaccia and breadsticks were dreamy. Tiramisu was world class and great wine list. Very cozy great place.
Stopped in on a Sunday with the family and we loved it. I got the Burger, and I'm pretty sure it was among the best burgers I've had in a few years. It was really really good. My wife got the gnocchi and it was fresh, pillowy and flavorful. The kiddo got the spaghetti and had good things to say about it. You can tell they make everything themselves and I appreciate that. Great spot.
Excellent overall Italian Experience, charm, beauty. $19 special - we should have asked for the special with soups and/or salad plus a meal. We asked our server to change our order and she did not. Wish we would have known about the special. Food Excellent homemade pasta and gnocchi. There is a wait for the food, but well worth it. Apetizer - Bruscheta with special cheese heated perfectly with an awesome crunch. Wow. Sauces - white Carbonara sauce is creamy, perfectly salted and added spices made this a treat. Red Gnocchi - perfect balance of tomatoes and spices left a slight tangy taste and my taste buds wanting more. Service was fantastic, pleasant, personal. Drinks Italian IPA - wow. Citrus and hoppy light IPA. Just perfect Mixed drinks yummy. Fresh breads with Extra Virgin Olive oil - OMG
Great service and great food. The carbonara was really good, and the saltimbocca was packed with flavor. Outdoor seating can be a bit chilly so don’t be afraid to ask for a heater.
If I could give it 10 stars I would! By far the best authentic Italian restaurant in the whole city! Chef Mattia never ceases to amaze me with the food served here and the wine selection. This restaurant is like escaping to Italy with a lot of the staff being Italian and speaking Italian which makes the whole experience that much better. Then comes the drinks and food and it makes you wanna by a ticket to Italy. We started off with the CARPACCiO, which went well with the glass of wine 🍷. A great size portion which tasted amazing. For dinner we shared the GNOCCHi al RAGÙ di MANZO which was so delicately made and full of flavor and the POLLO al MATTONE that was honestly my favorite chicken dish I've ever had. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was so juicey omg I could eat that everyday!!! For dessert we had PANNACOTTA al BALSAMiCO which was delicious and presented in such a cute dish and my favorite the TIRAMISÚ...it literally was made perfect and the best TIRAMISÚ I've ever and I loved that it wasn't overly moist with liquor and not too sweet. Again I could eat that everyday as well haha!!! Forgot to say my ELMY’S MARGARiTA was so delicious that I had 2 and ended with the best Italian beer that I've never had before. Again, the setting is gorgeous,, the staff are amazing and so friendly and knowledgeable, the chef just kills it on a daily and the food and drinks leave you wanting more. I couldn't ask for a better experience, thank you guys again!!!
Great Restaurant. Service was superb. Our waiter was Italian which is awesome in an Italian restaurant. We had the Alaskan halibut and the Bucatini. Both were very good. We also had the Vermentino white wine which was excellent. I’m told you don’t see that much in the US. For desert we had the pannacotta Al balsamico. A great treat the way the sour balsamic changes the flavor of the pannacotta. And light too. Recommend trying this place.
Great Italian delivery. Classic flavors at a reasonable price. The tripe was full of flavor and the croquettes were excellent. Had a nice creamy pasta alfredo and a very meaty bolognese with gnocchi. Topped it all off with their fantastic panna cotta for dessert. Two wine glasses up🍷🍷
Our experience at 54 Mint was Extraordinary! The cuisine was great, wine was amazing, food was delicious, and service was top tier! Our server Nick gave perhaps the best service we have ever had in any restaurant, he was extremely kind and attentive the entire evening, great guy! The other servers and bussers comprising the rest of the crew were fantastic as well! The restaraunt was very busy and popular, and we were still sat immediately upon entering as a table of 5. When the food came out, it was Extraordinary. All of our dishes (Halibut, Rigatoni Carbonara, and Steak) were cooked perfectly and were amazing! You could tell the ingredients were fresh! For dessert, the tiramisu and gelato were to die for! All around it was a very authentic Italian eating experience (we are Italian and were happy to find that alot of the staff even spoke Italian and were directly from Italy)! Overall we can't be more pleased with our experience at Mint 54 and would love to return back next time we are in SF! Best Italian food in San Francisco!
Decided to take my boo on nice date in the city and needed to find a nice restaurant to indulge in. I’m happy we found this place, the food is very authentic. The pasta was amazing and the drinks hit the spot. It is a bit pricey but no complaints here. Roberto did an amazing job serving us and was informative wink wink. I definitely recommend you check this place out, it’s a 5 minute walk from Bart.
If your looking for a return to that restaurant you keep talking about in Rome this is it. A gem of an Italian restaurant. Food was exquisite and service was impeccable. Started with a Staltimbocca appetizer and then had the Gnocchi al Ragu. The bartender suggest a red, Barbera d'Alba. Simply a perfect pairing. Through conversation I realized the owner has a restaurant in Williamsburg Brooklyn and he is originally from Roma. Highly recommend.
Wonderful dinner!! Service was great and the food was delicious. Was bummed they were out of the uni burrata but everything we had was delicious. Was so full after the grilled octopus, pork & pasta carbonara apps (also got the house bread basket with olive oil) that we barely put a dent in the oxtail ragu (awesome) and ribeye (perfectly cooked). Prices are reasonable for downtown as well!
Sometimes the best experiences happen unexpectedly. My friends and I were walking around the city when we decided to give this place a try, and I'm so glad we did because everything was absolutely delicious. The lamb chops were fantastic, and the tiramisu literally melts in your mouth. The atmosphere was pleasant, and our waiter was very kind.
We had such a wonderful experience at this Italian restaurant! Our waiter, John, was attentive, funny, and spot-on with his recommendations. The pasta was incredibly fresh and full of flavor — you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. We also loved the desserts, which were the perfect finish to the meal, and the clarified margarita was exceptional. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Italian food with great service!
I had dinner at 54 Mint last night and have nothing but positive things to say about it. The food is incredible, classic and very authentic Italian (not the heavy red sauce American version). We had the daily special pasta with clams and the lamb chops, both of which were excellent. The service was warm and friendly, from the host who greeted us to the servers who took our order and served the food. The ambiance is lovely, and the restaurant was busy without being loud or crowded. This place is a gem!
Two of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had in my life. The carbonara was extremely creamy and coated the pasta perfectly. The noodles were cooked al dente and so they had a nice chew to them. The sauce had some of the guanciale fat mixed in and gave a slight smokiness and saltiness to it. The guanciale pieces themselves were perfectly tender and crispy. We also got the bucatini. It had a tangy heat that almost brought a tear to my eye. It felt like the most elevated, perfect spaghetti you’ve always wanted your mom to make when you were a kid. The noodles had a tiny hole in the middle to soak up all that delicious sauce. It was also made with the guanciale, but was more of a chorizo style protein. It was ground and EXTREMELY well seasoned. Slightly saltier than the carbonara, but in a good way. I would eat both dishes for the rest of my life. Pair that with the delicious bottle of wine we had and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. If you’re looking for a place to go, go here. It will not let you down OH! And the croquettes were incredible. Perfectly crisped on the outside and a warm, tomatillo forward rice in the middle. Once we cut into them with a fork, the smell of the smoked mozzarella was amazing. These were a great appetizer to our meal.
We visited this modern Roman-style Italian spot near downtown San Francisco for a team dinner during a recent work trip — and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The vibe is vibrant, charming, and perfect for both casual and special occasions. We kicked off the evening with cocktails — mine was a refreshing blend of peach purée, agave, and a few other touches that made it fruity, light, and not overly boozy. If you enjoy creative cocktails, you’ll definitely appreciate their bar menu. The complimentary bread and olive oil were excellent, setting the tone right from the start. For appetizers, we shared the risotto croquettes — a classic Roman touch — and they were well-executed. My main was the carbonara, which happens to be my all-time favorite. It was rich, creamy, and generously portioned — so much so that I ended up taking some home. Everyone at the table seemed equally happy with their mains. While I skipped dessert (too full!), my colleagues raved about the tiramisu, panna cotta, and espresso — all earning high marks. Service was on the slower side, but honestly, that added to the relaxed, lingering vibe of the evening — exactly what you’d want for a team dinner, a group gathering, or even a date night. All in all, a wonderful dining experience that I’d happily recommend.
Went here for my anniversary, was enthralled with the atmosphere, very dim lighting downstairs, but I loved it. Food was absolutely amazing and tasted so fresh and delightful. Our server was from northern Italy, and apparently the head chef is from Rome! I got a pasta with wild mushrooms and was so full by the end! My fiancé got the gnocchi and loved it, the sauce was so good, I kept stealing bites. I got the panna cotta for dessert, I didn’t realize it came with balsamic vinegar, but I conquered my fears and tried it and it was AMAZING! They have blankets and seat cushions for those who sit outside, which I found nice. Very small restaurant, so get a reservation! Weird note - Ioved the sink in the downstair’s restroom, it’s so rare you find a sink with enough room to really wash your hands.
Beautiful, romantic, Italian restaurant. Had dinner with a girlfriend. Excellent service by Host, Staff and John. Food was incredible- we had the carbonara, gnocchi, octopus, and red wine. Flavors were fabulous! It was exactly what we were looking for. Highly recommend on a date night or girls night out!
We were lucky to get the special which was stake with potatoes and salted peppers as a side. It was delicious and perfectly cooked medium rare. The bread and oil is a must . A white Pinot Grigio bottle was the perfect wine that our server helped us pick. We don’t know his name but he was amazing (he from El Salvador ) very polite and attentive. Very nice atmosphere downstairs. Don’t sleep on the delicious tiramisu. Great job experience for our San Francisco trip.
Little hidden Italian in the plaza that creates an atmosphere of escape in an area that could use some work (don't go on 6th Street). Feels cozy but tables are spaced enough to have privacy. Not too noisy for good conversation. Nice service. The food itself is really good. Feels very Mediterranean and the "bar" wine is excellent as well. It was a great surprise and a great time. The burger is amazing by the way...
The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. The food particularly the pasta was flavorful even though the oxtail dish felt tough to eat.
It's not quite like the food in Italy, but it's pretty darn good. The execution is very Italian and authentic but the ingredients here, even in the bay area, are just not as fresh as Italy's. We had a zucchini appetizer, a bucatoni pasta with tomato sauce, porchetta, and a ricotta cheese berry tort. The highlights are the porcheta and the dessert. Both are nearly like what we had in Italy...
Service was amazing and the food was super. We arrived pretty early in the evening our food came pretty quickly. Everything was really nice, simple proper food. Decent selection of wines and I appreciate that the entire menu including wine was not pages and pages. Prices are pretty good. Even great for San Francisco.
I’ve been here twice.. not sure what I got the first time, but it wasn’t memorable. I think it was fish... so I wouldn’t recommend it. The second time was steak, which was pretty good but not amazing. The ambiance is nice since it’s in a cute plaza, but the alleyways leading up to this plaza could be a bit sketch depending on which side you’re coming from. Also, it was a bit loud on the inside during lunchtime, so patio seating is a good option if it’s a nice day out. It’s worth checking out if you’re curious, but could also probably find something better for the price point. 🤷🏻♂️
Great service team! Friendly with excellent service. Appetizers were excellent with fresh ingredients and nicely done. Insalda de InDivia was fantastically simple and good. Pescetti Fritti were crispy and light. Perfect wit a little lemon. Gnocchi was tasty but not perfect for me. I did eat it all however. My partner's dish was Puttanesca which was too strong on the olives, capers and the salt. I would like to try other dishes here before a final verdict on the pasta dishes.
We started with the Saltimbocco. Veal cutlets with prosciutto in a white wine sauce. The veal was tender. The prosciutto made it nicely chewy. It was a bit salty, which wasn’t surprising with prosciutto, and very tasty. We had Halibut in black lentils with broccolini. The halibut portion was on the large side. It was a seasoned slightly crispy on the bottom but tender and flaky. The broccolini was great in this bowl. I wished for more of it and less lentils. The dish was a bit salty but quite good. We also had the Fettuccine with oyster and crimini mushrooms. It also had Calabrian chili, unfortunately used minimally, and topped with a reggiano cheese. The pasta was made and cooked to perfection and the mushrooms were delicious and tender. It was the same white wine sauce as the appetizer but tasted less salty. Delicious and filling. We finished with the flourless chocolate cake. It lacked good chocolate flavor. Several good wine choices by the glass. Prices seemed a bit high for a 6 oz pour. The environment was comfortable if not a bit chilly inside. For some reason the hostess kept the front door open. Nighttime ambiance is nice with neat little lamps at each table.
Had a great meal but they started us 30 minutes after our reservation and it took 2 hours to get our main courses.
I ordered a couple of things. The octopus appetizer and the long noodles with tomato sauce. The octopus was great but I didn't like it mixed with the potatoes because they were cold. I felt as though the whole dish should have been hot. The tomato pasta was excellent. Very simple but delicious. I really like the flavor of the tomato sauce and the quality of their noodle. Very nice wait staff!
Food is above average - try the octopus and calamari for entree. Pasta was delicious and cooked perfectly. Steak and lamb both good. Good portions for he price. Good selection of wines available. The place is dimly lit and cozy - perfect for a special night. Note mandatory service charges and penalties for no show bookings.
Good Italian food in an upscale environment. Food in general is pretty good, we went in a group of 7 so got to try some variety. Antipasti - I especially liked the BUFALA E PROSCIUTTO, but feel like going with grissin is a little weird… I ended up spreading the cheese and meat on bread slices. Secondi - we tried the steak which is a special, it tastes great! The steak is at the right tenderness and saltiness. It’s a great portion too. Tiramisu can never go wrong at an Italian restaurant. It got a pretty upscale ambiance with a good selection of wine. The server came quite slow though so there were some long waiting periods between courses… also bread is not free… Post tax and fees $90 per person
Cute inside, great service staff. Bread from montesacro Pinseria was the highlight to us. Also liked the negroni and funghi side. Chicory & endive salad and cacio e pepe were fine. Didn't love the gnocchi or swordfish (dry/bland).
We tried a variety of pasta dishes and all were exceptional. The biggest detractor was the broccolini which was very bitter. We couldn’t eat it. Service was a bit of a disappointment. Our server did not check on us and seemed more interested in other tables. Tip: Three pasta dishes plus a side of mushrooms and bread is the perfect amount for three hungry people. Tip Two: When you get your bill the suggested tip is based off the post-tax amount NOT the pre-tax amount. Pre-tax is what should be used as the base.
Really great Italian spot. For appetizers we tried the bufalo and prosciutto. Excellent bufalo! The ribeye was one of the better ribeyes I’ve ever tried. The carbonara was good but pretty typical. The favorite was the short rib. For dessert we got both the panna cotta and the flourless chocolate cake. The panna cotta is well worth buying. The chocolate cake was truly disappointing. It was tasteless and seemed not just flourless but sugar-less and chocolate-less. Great service though.
Decent Italian restaurant sitting at a corner of square. We didn’t have a reservation, so got seated at the bar. Got prosciutto and Buffalo mozzarella, and bread basket for appetizer. Both pretty good. Wish the mozzarella was a bit more. The olive oil that came with the breadbasket was quite good. Had the carbonara for main. Very rich pasta (almost a little too rich), nice thick pork pieces, and pasta cooked to just right. Overall decent place, may come back if I’m in the area again.
I recently discovered a new Italian restaurant that specializes in serving authentic and exquisite Italian cuisine. The overall dining experience was delightful, although I felt that some dishes were missing the perfect blend of herbs and spices. There was a noticeable reliance on salt throughout the menu, resulting in a somewhat repetitive flavor profile. The veal cooked in a special sauce leaned towards being too salty for my taste. The fried rice croquettes with cheese were a bit on the bland side and didn't quite meet my expectations. However, I must highlight the outstanding squid ink pasta with homemade tomato sauce, which was truly a culinary delight. Another noteworthy dish was the pasta with meticulously cooked small pieces of pork belly, perfectly balanced in terms of saltiness. The grilled lamb chops were a revelation, cooked to perfection and bursting with delectable flavors. The grilled trout was equally impressive, effortlessly flaking apart as soon as you lifted it. Accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes, the combination was simply divine. The restaurant offered an impressive selection of wines that paired wonderfully with the food. All things considered, I highly recommend visiting this establishment for an exceptional Italian dining experience, despite minor observations regarding seasoning and flavor.
The food and drinks were excellent. The wait staff even attended to our needs ensuring our meal would run smoothly with a show later in the evening. However, we were sat in the basement at a children's table that was too low and just barely accommodated me. To be fair, I'm 6' and slightly bearish, but it was clearly not at dinner table height. My elbows struggled to find purchase. Additionally, the basement is very echoy and we were sat by a large group of eight men that decided that yelling to each other was appropriate at a dining establishment which only made the dark basement even less appealing and the worst dinner atmosphere. The men only stopped yelling at each other for a brief period when their meals showed up. If I came back I would ensure to avoid the basement seating at all cost. (However, the restaurant should consider tossing out the kiddy table too.)
Ordered cacio e pepe and a bread basket. The bread were warm and fresh. My order of pasta was great too. But I might have eaten too much bread before it’s arrival. I wish there was more pepper in the sauce. I was lucky to get the chilli flakes and olive oil but no balsamic. It was a good Sunday dinner with myself too pricey for everyday though. Vegetarian friendly.
We were nicely greeted by the host, the staff group are friendly and attentive. The ambience is cool with stylish touch in the decoration. Unfortunately the street level was warmer than downstairs room. Nice starting with focaccia bread and olive oil. The antipast octopus is worth to order one more. Pasta was okay. Wine took longer to be served. In the secondi, the grilled pork chop was delicious and fulfilling.
Service was great. The Carpaccio appetizer was very flavorful and I'd order it again. Very disappointed with pasta carbonara. Very fatty pieces of chopped pork..really strange. The dessert was OK. Yes, I traveled throughout Italy, NY, Baltimore. I can get a better dish at my small place in Santa Clara.
I made an NYE dinner reservation for me and my boyfriend. It was a prix fixe menu consisting for 4 courses. The first and last being a porcini shooter and a hazelnut tart. We were given options for the 2nd and 3rd. I got the rock shrimp and the pork chop, while my boyfriend got the pork belly and the black cod. We also got a glass of wine each instead of the $75/person wine pairing. We were both full by the end of the meal, but felt underwhelmed by the dishes. We both felt that the dishes needed more flavor and seasoning. Service and ambience were amazing, but most likely won't consider coming back.
Service and ambiance were great, but the food was mediocre. We got- 1. Saltimbocca 2. Carbonara 3. Gnnochi with beef Ragu 4. Polpo 5. Patate fingerling potatoes Saltimbocca was a bit too salty. Veal was tender and juicy. Gnnochi was dense and heavy. Beef ragu was watery and bland. Carbonara had a chalky aftertaste. Fingerling potatoes had no seasoning. Polpo was okay. They have indoor and outdoor seating area.
Had the steak and it was good (the crispy potatoes were great, but the broccoli was cold). The service was ok, but it could have been better (more attentive). The area does not feel very safe which puts me off from wanting to go back again. Still, I sent friends there the next day as they wanted a place and they had pasta, which they did not love. Could be better
We had a great time here! The food was good and so was the service. Everything (apps, pasta, proteins, dessert) tasted good, though the portion sizes felt a little small. The basement is a good spot for group gatherings. It’s in a pretty hectic area of SF so personally I don’t plan on returning.
An unfortunate dinner from what I imagine was a restaurant that used to have higher standards. Service was shockingly slow- our simple pasta mains took over 30 minutes to come. The food arrived lukewarm as if it had been sitting out for a while too! Our server had no allergen training- which is unusual for this city. He suggested we get a side dish, served it to us, then promptly told us it had the allergen in it and that the person with the allergy not to eat it. This is quite ridiculous. We sadly returned the side dish and did not bothering another because of the 30 minute wait. In the end- the server did a poor job managing expectations for a busy kitchen and handling allergens. The food was quite good despite being cold; however the service experience and high price tag would convince me not to return.
Customer service was awful. There were only 2 people at the bar including myself. The bartender was talking to the other person for 10 mins. Finally showed up and I got a old fashion. In which it was great. 30 minutes later glass is empty didn't ask for my food order. So while I'm waiting to get my check. I'm typing this lovely response. I would recommend this place if they had a different bartender.
Made a reservation for Thanksgiving a few weeks in advance and was very excited for the "Italian Thanksgiving." However, we arrived at 8pm for Thanksgiving for our reservation and weren't seated until 8:45. We were then told the Thanksgiving menu was completely out. My family and I were all from out of town/out of state and were very disappointed that this is how our Thanksgiving turned out. Even more disappointing that throughout service no one seemed to care that this had happened.
I reserved this place 2 weeks in advance for thanksgiving night. One, we were brought to our table 40 minutes past our reservation time because they were running a few minutes late. Then we were told that everything on the thanksgiving menu was out and will be replaced by the normal menu. If that was so, we should have been told before we waited 40 minutes to get a very average Italian meal. That was not what I wished nor expected for thanksgiving dinner. Terribly organized night but we were offered 2 free drinks which could not make up for the ruined night. Will never return.
