They really have a great crew here. And coffee to match. A quintessential coffee shop experience. Drinking a piccolo (Gibraltar/cortado as I've previously known them) rn and it's super tasty 🤤
I come here about once a week. Consistently great service, friendly people, yummy coffee. Sometimes can get a bit loud in the shop. I love how they do things here and the atmosphere. Love how affordable the drinks are.
My favorite coffee shop franchise in a new location with a bigger space with still the high quality coffee. I like that they have specialty coffee like cocoa dusted cappuccino. Somehow I think the coffee I have is not as creamy as the one I have near Chinatown but it is still better than many other places. Would like to try other signature drinks next time.
Great coffee shop with some indoor seating. Coffee was smooth tasting, atmosphere was lively, and there is enough seating to get some work done. Atmosphere can be a little loud during busy hours but otherwise a great place to relax and have a nice cup of coffee!
I dare to say they have the chocolate crossaint I have tried so far. Flaky, airy, sweet enough and just delicious. My cortado was delicious, nutty and toasty. The barista did a great job in the design. The coffee sampler flight was an unexpected item, as I got to try all the different roasts and flavors they have available. The coffe shop as an open concept, with the batista visible to the store, chairs and benches to sit for work, chat or just enjoy the coffee. Parking can be a struggle, but that is common in all big cities, no biggie. Looking forward to be back.
Excellent coffee and great location! I love how you can get coffee here and actually has some space to enjoy it. Many coffee shops in Sf doesn’t have seatings. This place you feel welcome to actually sit down and enjoy coffee. Everyone is kind and their coffee is really the best in Sf.
Nice cafe. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Good coffee. I got a flat white. It’s not on the menu but they make a good flat white. Same price as a cappuccino.
One of the best espresso ever! They use a 26 gram shot with 75 gram out. Their execution and detail is far above many other coffee shops. A really unique coffee experience! If its still available, get the Dak Columbia on espresso and drink it there.
Overall Thoughts: I’m not a coffee connoisseur but this place is legit, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The baristas are super sweet and friendly too! I tried the vanilla rosemary latte and the cocoa cappuccino which were both great— creamy, flavorful, and perfectly sweet. I also had the espresso tonic which was a perfect blend of acidic, citrus, and rich flavors. 100% would love to return if I’m ever back in SF! — Price (relative to peers): 4.7/5 Coffee: 4.9/5 Ambience: 4.8/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.8/5
Finally get to try and support this business! Was so glad to venture out and check out their new location in Balboa. The space was small with a few seats but clean, simple and with a no fuss, straightforward menu. Tried their coffee tasting flight (espresso, cortado, drip coffee) and the cocoa cappuccino. Both very good. I especially liked the espresso and drip on the tasting flight. It was packed on a Friday afternoon on their first week of opening. The baristas were extra friendly and courteous and nothing like what I’ve experienced in other coffee shops in the city. Huge bonus! The last pastry which was a croissant was snagged by the guy in front of me. I wished there was something to nibble on with my coffee. Go and support them especially if you’re a coffee connoisseur.
By far the best coffee in SF. Trust me, your black coffee will have zero bitterness and will reinvent what you know to be coffee. Also their cappuccinos are never burned! I like to get a mini house drip for $3. I only wish they had more seating indoors or outdoors.
I’ve been there three times and gotten a different drink each time. The first two times I went, I thought the drinks were good but not amazing (lavender latte and cocoa cappuccino). The third time I got a latte, and it was probably the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. It was smooth and flavorful and slightly sweet. This is also a great place to sit for an hour or two and get some work done. The staff members are really nice and ensure you have a great experience. The shop also has a bathroom, which surprisingly, a lot of coffee shops in SF do not. My only complaint is that I wish they had a bigger pastry selection.
Here’s a polished and natural rewrite of your review: --- A nice coffee shop in the Richmond District. It’s usually busy, and the space isn’t very large, though there is some seating available. What they’re best known for, as far as I know, is the tasting flight — three featured coffees of the day served either as different pours or prepared in different ways. They also offer several types of coffee beans. There are three workers behind the counter preparing drinks, and they work very efficiently. Orders come out quickly. We ordered the tasting flight, a cocoa cappuccino, a latte, and some pastries. I really enjoyed the tasting flight — it’s a unique way to sample three different coffees or brewing styles. It was a great experience. We usually stop by whenever we’re in the area. The prices are reasonable and affordable. I also really like their espresso machine. ☕ Parking is on the street and could be challenging near the shop.
Terrific third wave, stopped here on the way to cheering the SF half marathon. I love that they do the 3 way tasting, with a coffee prepared 3 ways, I had a very floral coffee. Pastries are good too.
The chai latte is well-spiced and creamy—easily one of the better ones around. Espresso drinks are good too, made with quality beans, and the espresso tonic is nicely balanced with lime/orange twist. Friendly spot with decent pastries and outdoor seating. Worth checking out. Close to golden gate park and de young museum.
By the name, The Coffee Movement, I was hesitant—historically, places with “movement” or “project” in the name are often skips. This one was an exception. I ordered immediately but then went back to the menu, worried I’d rushed my choice. The barista noticed my interest in a coffee and offered me a taster while I waited—a small gesture that’s so rare in San Francisco, and even rarer in coffee shops. When my order arrived, I realized I had been mistaken about making the best coffee at home. The slow drip was worth every $10, and the attentive service has me excited to come back. Don’t judge a book by its cover—or a business by its name. Thanks to the baristas for the thoughtful touch that made me write this review.
Really excellent coffee experience here, especially if you enjoy specialty coffee. Far and away my favorite spot in SF. Would recommend giving the coffee flight a shot if you’re interested in a little variety. Baristas are super friendly and knowledgeable about the rotating list of coffees. As far as location, this spot on Balboa was my favorite. Give it a shot!
Such a cool spot, this is the place to go if you're a true coffee aficionado, I got a tasting flight of their "Dak" Colombia coffee. You get drip, espresso and a cortado. Highly recommend checking it out
TCM did not disappoint. The almond croissant has just enough jam in it. The service was streamlined with 3 people all doing different task in making the coffee to make the line move quickly. The space was minimalistic and have seats outside as well. Coffee was point in. Will come back again.
They take coffee to a whole new experience. They use quality beans, make quality drinks, and have quality staff (Shoutout Clara!). Definitely has become a neighborhood favorite for me!
The coffee was really excellent. It might be the best in the city? We tried the tasting flight with 3 different filter coffees (dark, medium, light) and the specialty pour over. It was a great way to taste the full range they had on offer. The pour over was spot on. The light roast had some much aroma to it! I really enjoyed the medium roast as well. The orange pistachio muffin was very unassuming looking but moist and delicious. The line was out the door but moved quickly and we had no problem grabbing a seat. The only minor complaint was that the place was very loud.
Clean modern establishment that serves excellent coffee at good prices and keeps the lines moving. Enjoyed consistently well prepared cocoa cappuccinos, 1 latte and 1 piccolo during 2 visits. Staff is professional and knows their business. On our last visit March 16 Shaye was exceptionally kind, explained the beans used for their beverages and provided a sample of the standard brew as extra bonus. On both visits I thanked the staff when leaving and each time they responded “we appreciate you”. Something good is taking place here. Move on over quickly to this location for enjoying a high end coffee experience served by engaged baristas who excel at their craft.
If the motto is “Good times, better coffee,” Coffee Movement Richmond is halfway there, and thankfully, it’s the half that matters most. The coffee is excellent. Seriously. Pour-overs that make you reconsider your life choices, most of the time. The fit-out is clean, modern, and quietly confident, just like the espresso. If you’re here for conversation or small-town hospitality, you might be disappointed. But if you’re here to caffeinate and get on with your day, you’ve found your place. Price point is solid. I usually pop in for a split shot to share with my partner and finish with a pour over. I pay for the single estate coffee, because why would you not. Let’s be real: the service doesn’t quite hit warm-and-fuzzy, but then again, you don’t go to a tattoo artist for a cuddle, and you don’t come here for chit-chat. You come for seriously well-made coffee, and in that department, they overdeliver. Whether you’re grabbing a quick takeaway or lingering to people-watch in the Richmond flow, Coffee Movement delivers on its promise, maybe not the “good times,” but definitely the “better coffee.” Most chumps order milky coffees... perhaps the baristas want to serve people that love coffee. Open for opinion.
The Coffee Movement has been on my wish list for a while to visit as I’ve heard good things. This spot is one of their two SF locations and far enough from downtown to have plenty of nearby parking. Inside the shop is super modern and aesthetic, the baristas get through orders quickly and the prices aren’t too bad either. On this visit I went with their signature cocoa cappuccino which tasted great. The cocoa component is just a dusting on top and not really part of the drink but the cappuccino itself was super smooth, balanced, and delicious. I only wish more came with the cup as it was a fairly small serving.

Ordered flat white, nice latte art, tastes smooth without sourness or bitterness. There are few indoor seats with great natural lights, nice cafe to stop by for a cup of coffee
If I could give it 10 stars, I would! The best matcha latte in the city — it just melts in your mouth. I only wish they had croissants =) but even without them, it’s a 10 out of 5!
A truly unique coffee experience worth the wait. The Coffee Movement in San Francisco delivers an exceptional coffee experience from start to finish. The baristas are fast, friendly, and always smiling, creating a welcoming and energetic atmosphere. The coffee itself is outstanding—carefully crafted, full of flavor, and consistently excellent. This is exactly why you see long lines outside at all hours of the day. Once you try it, you understand immediately.
Coffee movement always has amazing service and iced lattes; I go to both locations in Richmond and Upper Nob Hill/Chinatown. Most recently I tried the vanilla spice latte, and at first I wasn’t too sure about it since I’m not a fan of ginger. But it wasn’t bitter or spiced at all, and almost tasted like cinnamon! One of my favorite coffee places for friendliness and reasonable pricing.
I hear the lines here can be epic but when I went there was no line. I had a cappuccino which was very good with well extracted espresso and good milk foaming, the service was quick and efficient, lower prices than most for a cappuccino. It didn’t really have a cozy sit and hang out type atmosphere but I’m guessing it’s intentional, they have an efficient process that pumps out good coffee for a good price.
Their coffee has a chocolate flavor. Latte is made perfectly, it makes sense that it’s served only in 10 oz cup. And u get your coffee right at the counter, just a long line to get to the counter
Definitely a really good coffee shop. $5 for a latte is unbeatable for the quality you get. Good Service is also pleasing to see. Depending on the time you come might be busy. Not much indoor seating either.
The best coffe place in SF, superb quality, super fast crew (even when line is long usually its short wait), super hip looking but none of hipster barista snarkiness. The staff is super frendly !!! Thanks for great coffee!!!

The atmosphere was nice, service was knowledgeable. Expectation size of cup from Expresso to a reg size cup ( no large cup) . There are not a lot of deserts or sweets must go to another location. Coffee flavor is ok. Price little high. Enjoy
I have mixed feelings about The Coffee Movement. The coffee wasn't bad, the ham and cheese croissant was VERY good, and the shop itself was pretty nice. The problem is mostly just around the value. The latte was quite tiny, and not at all cheap. I get that SF tends to be a bit more expensive in general, but I'm not sure I can justify returning for this price, outside of special occasions.

Two key things: this is a community hangout, and they take their coffee seriously. Not too seriously, but they do the craft work when making coffees. My kid, who like an unnamed chain, was matured a level when she tried the rosemary vanilla latte, over ice. This place is bound to be here many years. Don't be discouraged by a line. They push it along plus it gives you a chance to meet someone new. Go try it when you're next jonesing.
The barista didn't freshly steam the milk for my cortado. 😐 I walked in. Ordered a cortado. They pulled the shot, then picked up a large frothing pitcher filled with previously steamed milk and poured it into the cup. (When steamed milk is permitted to sit too long, the microfoam will start to disintegrate and bubble, preventing it from properly incorporating with the espresso. Steamed milk allowed to sit too long becomes too frothy, hence the striations where the espresso meets the steamed milk. ***The photo was taken as soon as they set the cortado on the counter.) The entire process took under a minute. So, if you want fast coffee (this particular day, I didn't have to wait in line) then this might work for you. But I made a special trip to San Francisco to try their coffee because I'd heard great things about The Coffee Movement. It was sadly very anticlimactic and disappointing. The following day, I went to The Coffee Movement on Washington. I waited in line for half an hour and received a delicious cortado. It was well worth the wait.
Coffee is tastey. Food is nothing special. Your in SF. Hit up a bakery like Jane's the Baker if you want pastry. Pretty unbelievable that this place doesn't have outlets to charge your phone. So the coffee is on point. Everything else is mediocre. Place is good to buy coffee and bounce.

Not sure why I had such a different experience here than the other reviewers, but we got cocoa cappuccino and vanilla rosemary latte and they were both very bad. On top of that one of the workers handling our coffee seemed sick!
