My mom and I had weekday breakfast at Orphan Andy’s and we’ve found our new breakfast spot when meeting up in the city. The staff is amazing, food is home cooked deliciousness, and the restaurant is cozy and festive. Honestly it checked all the boxes and then some. My mom had the veggie omelette with pancakes. I had the huevos rancheros with pancakes. Not a pancake girlie but these were *chef’s kiss*.
Delicious patty melt. The staff is very friendly with a lively with a sprinkle of sass This legend of a place is a staple when visiting the castro.
This is one of the rare hole in the wall restaurants that had amazing food and an amazing atmosphere. I went here and felt instantly at home. Everyone was so friendly and the food was so delicious!!! THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST TRY!! I wish I could give more stars than five because it really was that good. Our host was Vité although I may be spelling it wrong. But if youre in sf at any point and your hungry and need good coffee I suggest anyone try this place at least once. This will now be the spot I go for breakfast and lunch whenever im in the city. Im excited to come back and bring more people with me so they can experience it too. Thank you to the whole staff for an amazing experience and even more amazing food. This place has been there since 1977 and ive got to say it is absolutely wonderful inside. Again, this is an absolute must!!!
Worth Every Minute of the Wait If you’re looking for a true San Francisco classic, Orphan Andy’s delivers in every possible way. Yes, the wait on New Year’s Day was a little long—but it was absolutely worth it. This small, no-frills diner in the heart of the Castro has all the charm you want in a neighborhood institution. The food was superb—comforting, flavorful, and cooked exactly the way diner food should be. Every bite reminded us why places like this endure. What really sets Orphan Andy’s apart, though, is the service. Sassy, friendly, and full of personality, the staff makes you feel like part of the scene rather than just another customer. It’s warm, unapologetically authentic, and refreshingly real. If you want great food, iconic Castro vibes, and service with attitude (in the best way), Orphan Andy’s is a must. We’ll gladly wait again.
When I think comfort i think Orphan Andy's. The service is immensely efficient, warm and friendly. Best Fish & Chips in San Francisco and I moved here in 85. Basically, I had given up on getting fish and chips that were not scalding hot(temperature) any yet soggy. The malt vinegar isn't supposed to make everything wet. Andy's F&C's remain crisp and crunchy from first bite to last. The portions are ample so you will not leave hungry. Usually I end up needing a Togo box, which I love. I grew up in a large family and Mom was always in the Kitchen doing the things with food that Mother's with large family's did. Keep the foodies simple, harty, tasty and very satisfying. My Mom always prepared food for an army because mysteriously one of my Dads Brother would show up with their families. And always around dinner time. So too me, leftovers are a delightful blessing. That's what think of every time I walk into Andy's. Did I say the staff is fantastic from the owner, greater. wait staff, etc. Finally I can take my two little dogs and and along with my partner it's Family.
Orphan Andy’s was an amazing experience from start to finish. The service was top notch with staff who were friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The portions are huge and packed with flavor, definitely more than enough for a satisfying meal. The value for money is outstanding, especially considering the quality and size of the food. The location is really convenient and easy to get to, which makes it perfect for a casual stop while exploring the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. Honestly, everything about this place just works and I would go back in a heartbeat.
After a fun adventure with the ladies in the City we were so excited to try this diner out. The first thing we did was adore all the Christmas lights and take all the pics. Then after sitting down and ordering the yummiest 24 hour diner dinner we relaxed in the jolly atmosphere until our food arrived in less than 10 minutes. Not only is this place adorable, but the service and the food are top notch.
Orphan Andy’s is an iconic San Francisco gem! I always go here for breakfast and especially love ordering their Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Walnut Butter and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. The service is fast and friendly. And the decor makes you feel like you’re eating at a local neighborhood dive spot (which you are) with its string lights and party streamers! All in all a great spot with great food and a great atmosphere!
My friends and I ate here for breakfast while visiting SF and our server was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He asked where we were visiting from and got us a map and circled places we should go and explained how to get there using public transit. He even took a picture of us in our booth! The food was pretty good and the portion sizes were great. I loved the atmosphere and decor as well! Definitely a place you should go if you’re visiting SF!
If you ever find yourself walking around the Castro hungry, you may just end up here. That's how we found it. Just walking on a beautiful SF morning and got hungry. Awesome, quaint, local joint with great selection of breakfast items and friendly service. The location is fantastic, which is right off the corner of Market and Castro, and it's an action packed corner. The toast is butter to perfection-there's just a lot of butter 😆 And I'm amazed at the sign "open 24 hrs?" If I'm ever up late wondering about food, I may make my way down here to check it out, late night.
Our server was lovely and super helpful! Biscuits and gravy were massive so definitely split them if you’re ordering them as a side. Minestrone incredible broth was so flavourful. Fish and chips were crispy and the batter was light! High point is definitely the ambiance and decor. Neon in a dark and homey way? Highly recommend!

Great fluffy pancakes, good selection for breakfast and great atmosphere. I really wanted to try the biscuits and gravy...but too much food!
We went on Sunday morning around 9:00 for breakfast. We had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. The table wasn’t clean when we sat at it, but our waiter, who didn’t introduce himself, eventually wiped it off. We got coffee to start. It wasn’t great. I had an egg, cheese and bacon sandwich. My husband got a bacon and cheese omelette with home fries and sourdough toast. My sandwich was delicious. They must use extra large eggs, because it was hanging off of the bagel, which was also very good. It had 1 1/2 strips of bacon, which I think was applewood smoked, and yellow American cheese that was perfectly melted. . My husband’s omelette was also big and very good. Scant on the bacon, lots of soft American cheese. The home fries were big chunks of potato and caramelized onions, well seasoned and soft. We had to ask for coffee refills, I opted for water instead of coffee. The bill was $49ish, not including a tip. Also, we were there in mid November. The place is completely decorated for Christmas, and it is beautiful! It’s worth it to stop by to see that!
Charming, tiny diner with dazzling decor. Food was delicious and huge portions (we got an omelette and some chocolate chip pancakes). Our server was very friendly and helpful. Prices are too high to make this a regular haunt, but you’ve gotta go at least once.
The ambience is cute. Lot's of decor. The nostalgic diner feel is definitely here. The service was ok. I don't understand their system but it hobbled along. The food was great. We got the cheeseburger 9/10. The mushroom burger 8/10. The cream cheese burger ( new 1 for me) 9/10. Super messy burger. Crazy prices. We also got the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. They were almost $20. Get out of town!! In all , for late night eats and diner food , it gets the job done.

I love everything about this diner. The burgers hit the spot. The service can be gruff when it's busy, but even so, good energy, clean, great lighting.

Great little diner with a fun atmosphere, but the food is bland. Not a lot of seasoning on any of the food. Life the staff and diner but not the food.
My omelet was well prepared and potatoes were quite good. Portions are substantial. burger had a good flattop crust. Chili is homemade and has nice texture. Friendly service snd good prices.
Let me just start by saying this place is like a little whole in the wall. The decor in this resto is unique and a little distracting to say the least. The food was pedestrian. Hardly any flavor, really bland. The portion part is nothing to brag about. So when we walked in we were completely ignored, there was no where to sit. A few minutes went by and still no acknowledgement. So we finally spoke up and asked to see the menu while we wait and yet they still ignored us. So I helped myself and grabbed a couple menus. After some time deciding what to eat we kindly asked if we can order to go? Well to my surprise the elder lady snapped at us and said "yes I see you, I'll get to you when I can" so we waited a little longer. Finally upon taking our order she yelled at me again. If I had another option I would of turned around and walked out but unfortunately at 2am it's bad out here in San Francisco.
Let me start by saying that I HATE to leave a negative review for a business and will only do so if the problem was really egregious. Food was ok, enjoyed everything except bacon which had an "off" f…

Between the health code disaster of dogs eating at tables and the disappointing food, I will not be back. This place desperately needs a reality check both in management and in the kitchen. I wanted to like this place. The old school diner vibe with burgers and malts sounded promising, but the experience was awful. The first red flag was a customer who brought in a dog that was very clearly not a service animal and let it sit in the booth and eat at the table. Management watched it happen and did absolutely nothing. That alone speaks volumes about their filthy tolerances and lack of standards. As for the food, it was completely mediocre. The burger was forgettable, the fries limp, and the “classic” milkshake was so thick it was practically inedible with a straw. Instead of feeling like a nostalgic diner treat, it felt like a lazy careless imitation.
