I had the single best cup of coffee I've had in my life at Paper Son. A friend took me there and told the owner that I was a newbie. Alex ground a small amount of beans, had me smell them (amazing), then just did a filtered pour into a small carafe. I usually need cream & sugar. Not this time. The flavors were sublime. On top of it, the staff & patrons all seemed like old friends. A great experience!!

Service was super fast but great quality! i loved their almond croissant and matcha latte. Too bad there was no ube bread thing that day but i’ll be back for sure!!!!

Absolutely delightful coffee, matcha, and baked goodies! This adorable little coffee shop always has a giant line, but I can absolutely see why — the coffee is rich and nutty, either on its own, in a classic espresso drink, or mixed with one of their delightful Asian-inspired syrups. They have some of the best matcha beverages in the city, and I am consistently impressed by their selection of classic and Asian-inspired pastries. Everything is available between opening and when they’re sold out, and they definitely run out of the exciting, house-made pastries — like their ube salt bread, kimchi furikake chorizo scones, or sesame toffee chocolate chip cookies — quite quickly, so you have to get there early if you want to indulge. I usually try to arrive within an hour or two of them opening if I want one of their delicious Asian-inspired pastries, but it’s absolutely worth the early morning trek. I especially love their salt bread, which is super buttery and pillowy, and it has a great balance of salty vs. sweet. I also love their more classic pastries that they got from another bakery for later arrivals. The millet muffin is my go-to — it’s not overly sweet, has a great grainy texture and crunch from the millet, and is a nice hearty breakfast. Even though the line looks long and intimidating, it moves quite quickly. The team is really efficient, so I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes to order or more than 5 minutes for my order to be made afterwards, even when the line is out the door.

Such a unique offering of baked goods! It was hard to decide what to get, but ended up with an Ube filled Salt Bread and a Milo Double Choc Chip Cookie! There was a line when we arrived at 9am, but it moved quite quickly!

Love the drinks - thai tea cloud, matcha latte - and collaborations to offer baked goods. Convenient to visit anytime while working in downtown!

Love this place!! I come here everytime i'm in san francisco, it's consistently great and the pastries are amazing. The staff are all so nice and their coffee is no joke. This is a great place if you're looking to hang out, talk, work, or even grab some coffee and go. Highly recommend.

Order: Cappuccino- excellent taste Matcha passionfruit soda - took us by surprise, well balanced, very refreshing Note: Pastries sold out early, arrived 11:30, were told they sold out by 10

The Ube salt bread is one of the best pastries and WORTH THE LINE. Not heavy like croissants - the bread is pillowy soft and buttery, like those Korean salt croissant/bread. The perfect Asian style pastry and way better IMO than Ube filled croissants

Excellent cappuccino and the guava filled salt bread was divine. Line out the door for the pastries.

Had to come try this place out before starting work, and I'm happy I did. I was the first person in this morning at 8:30AM, and was able to meet the owner Alex and the other Alex (who is equally as chill as the original Alex). Had a great conversation about coffee, the procedure they set up to pull a espresso shot, and a little about the SF Vacant to Vibrant program. The single origin espresso they dialed in while I was there was smooth, and not too acidic. Definitely great solo, and would also be great with some textured milk. I'll be back soon.

Cozy cafe with amazing coffee and the best part is they barely charge 25cents for the oat/milk alternatives since they opened the downtown cafe I have tried their cappuccino, latte with cardamom syrup and flat white. First time a coffee doesn’t need a sweetener for me

Been meaning to head to their dogpatch location for the longest time, but they came downtown instead! The place is a bit empty feeling for now, but they're slowly moving in. The coffee is just excellent and the barista is super knowledgeable. I am so excited for them. Looking forward to watching them grow at this location.

Loved their matcha passionfruit soda and their coffee is always so fantastic! Also love their AAPI friendly space and founding story! Delicious in house baked pastries if you get there early enough on Wed and Fridays!

half the reviews here are for the bakery pop-up which is fine but also the coffee (and matcha) here is so good and everyone is very nice. it is such a blessing to have this near my work 🫨 GUAVA PILLOW >>>>>>> if you don’t need pastries go on mon/tues

Iced pandan matcha has a beautiful flavor! I think it’s the slightest bit grainy but I would take that over a weak matcha any day. The two guys I talked to were very nice, and offered extra syrup to taste. Super friendly environment, small but lovely seating area with lighting.

Relaxing place to hang out for a while. Best for solo or couples, not laid out for groups. Few tables outside. Limited bakery items, but the millet muffin I had was quite good.

The line may be long but they are so fast! And the drinks were delicious. We got there around 11a and the breads were gone so be sure to get there early.

I got the matcha latte with pandan syrup. I didn’t really taste the pandan syrup but the matcha latte itself was strong and umami, the whole milk didn’t overpower it. The service was good and they call out your name when it’s ready. I wish it was a tiny bit sweeter but maybe need to ask for extra sweetness next time.

TLDR everything is a bit too rich and there's minimal crunch compared to what I expected but I can see the vision/ attention to detail with respect to flavor. Ordered guava salt bread, squash egg yolk focaccia, thai tea Thai tea: Cardamom sweet cream is pleasantly flavorful and done really well, I like how quickly it melts into the tea. Personally would probably not order again because it's a bit sweet for my liking (usually I order 0% for boba). Guava salt bread: Only crunchy at the ends (nowhere else) and too much cream for my liking; the cream:bread ratio is more like a cream puff than what I expected, where expectations were set based on product name "salt bread" so I expected more emphasis on bread vs filling. The guava cream is nicely flavored, light and floral. If it was a bit more sour maybe there would be better balance and would not feel as rich? Focaccia: very soggy, both on bottom and top! I will say the flavor is great (generous with salted egg yolk, great umami, pairs well with the curry leaf and kabocha) and the inside is moist and chewy; indeed you can tell it's been fermented quite well and gluten structure is great but for a focaccia at this price I really expected/was craving the crunch that comes with it. Again the flavor is amazing but I kind of had to pretend I already chewed it a bit when I took a bite. I did come at 9:45 AM so maybe it'd be crunchier if I came earlier but I did eat it pretty much (5-10min?) right after ordering. I understand that maybe the curry topping is inherently wet but perhaps a solution is to assemble before serving or something, and if labor is a concern to mark up the price further?

Great, well priced coffee. Minimal food options and seating. I out of the 5 times I’ve tried to go I’ve gotten my coffee once. The other 4 times it’s been either closed or booked for a pop up sort of thing
