It's a heavy lift to live up to one's childhood memories of having a muffuletta in New Orleans - taken there by my own Sicilian family, but Sandy does so and improves on it. Starting with the most important thing, the sandwich (I had 1 slice of the Meat version with a side of slaw and chips). the meat and cheese is layered neatly and generously, the paste and juices are flavorful without being overwhelming, and the bread is the major improvement having put it through a press it is lightly crisp on the top keeping it a reasonable thickness for even the most modest mouth. The service was friendly, accommodating and passionate about their product. You feel welcome. The atmosphere is simple, unique and cozy. Less hole in the wall and more a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy. Unique stickers, flags, and the like give you a sense of the roots of those working there. I noticed they sell to-go versions neatly boxed up - more stylish cannoli box than a pizza carton. I am scheming on a chance to buy a full sandwich for a party or anything. My only want is a second shop further south on the peninsula so it'd be easy for me to eat at Sandy's regularly.
After spending the morning Slingshoting nonconformists out in the panhandle with One Eyed Jack and his son Little Peeper we walked up Haight to Sandy's for one of those world famous sandwiches. Probably the most underrated sandwich joint in the city! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆
ABSOLUTE MUST-TRY! This was by far the best muffuletta I have ever had! While it is a little pricey, the combo makes it so worth it and it is well worth the price regardless! Cookie are also incredibly delicious too! The staff here were super friendly and attentive. This is a small business and is really pushing the neighborhood forward! I cannot think that I could recommend this place any stronger. Definitely a must-have when visiting San Francisco!
Sandwich was A1 but the cookies oh my goodness, absolutely unreal. And the owner recommended a few great spots with a view to eat it for which we were super grateful!
Their muffuletas are AMAZING!! Delicious, can’t wait to go back.
Sandy's is a delightful establishment. If you want a taste of New Orleans in San Francisco, head straight to this restaurant.
Been craving a good muffuletta since our trip to NOLA five years ago, this place hits the spot and then some. Tried their classic and their roasted mushrooms vegetarian option, loved both of them.
Mushroom muffuletta was amazing. Both the bread and the filling were excellent.
Both of their muffulettas are absolutely incredible- different enough that I shared 1/8 of each and we couldn’t decide which one was better. Top sandwich spot in SF, and nothing else like it right now in the city. Would recommend to anyone- can’t wait to come in another day and try their sausage sandwich which is still unavailable (but they said soon!) Tip- if you’re not eating in walk a half block to Gus’s to get a drink, and then keep going for about 4 mins to the Golden Gate Park and picnic it out. (The sandwiches will hold up the way there + pit stop without getting soggy)
Really hearty and good muffuletta. So many layers and so tasty flavorful. Highlights were the capers and carrots mixed in. We got a 1/4 easy to split amongst two. Was hoping the slaw would have more of a kick or at least be a bigger portion compared to the muffuletta but overall it was a good flavor profile to contrast the muffuletta.
I can't say enough good things about this place! Super cute spot with great, helpful people and the food is absolutely out of this world. I had the regular muffaletta and my partner had the vegetarian (made with mushrooms) both were amazing. Highly recommend grabbing a sandwich here and taking it a block away to eat it in the park on a beautiful day.

Had a wonderful time at Sandy’s! Their sandwiches are so tastyyy and they have THE BEST coleslaw in the world, very dill forward. Great service too, everyone is so kind

Very unique sandwich place! We got the egg salad and the classic sandwich. Only issue with both was one component tasted so strongly that it was hard to taste the other ingredients. For example, the classic sandwich had an olive spread which was delicious but I couldn’t taste the ham and cheese well because of it.
One of the best cookies I’ve ever had. My friend bought one to share when we were hanging in the panhandle and after one bite I knew I had to get my own, or two! The perfect combination of chocolaty buttery morsel goodness. Can’t wait for the next time I’m nearby and can get my chocolate chip cookie fix. The sandwiches are incredible too, such a delicious novelty, and the service was so friendly and personable. Big fan.
Stopped by on a whim and I’m so glad I did—it ended up being the best decision of my week. The woman at the counter was warm and welcoming, and she helped me choose their classic muffaletta (plus a chocolate chip cookie). The sandwich was fantastic—perfectly balanced flavors and just the right proportions. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!
My mom and I ordered/ shared the pickled egg sandwich and the mushroom muffuletta. Both were completely different but so delicious. We also shared a cookie and it was perfectly baked to be crisp on the outside yet soft and a little gooey on the inside. We will definitely be back and want to try the watermelon salad next!

I’m mid-sandwich, and had to stop to write this review. The pimento cheese is TOP-TIER. I grew up in the south and since moving to the city a decade ago, haven’t missed much food-wise, except pimento cheese. Cannot overstate how thrilled I am to have found this spot. The pimento cheese has a little kick, the texture is perfect, and the pimento/bread ratio on the sandwich was spot on. I did remove the okra because the pimento cheese is so perfect that it doesn't need anything extra. No notes. 10/10.

Once in a while I crave a muffuletta and, of course, Sandy’s is just the place to go. I really enjoyed the combo meal with the 1/4 muffuletta, 8oz herby slaw, and a bag of chips. Wonderful lunch! Bit on the heavier side but that’s what you sign up for. The herby slaw was delicious, fresh, and has a balanced sweetness. They have parsley, chives, and dill mixed in there with a mustard dressing, and I found it to be superb with the sandwich. Staff were nice, and you order at the counter and bus your own table.
There is lots of Italian components like prosciutto, mortadella, soppressata, provolone cheese you can taste at once. Most importantly is an olive salad tasting tangy, salty, spicy. The olives are what totally set it apart. But at the same time, the olive salad is a little bit salty and overpowering to me.
Had a “muffuletta” for the first time. I think it was a bit overpriced for the quantity of food but was damn tasty.

Didn't get their famous muffaletta but tried their egg sandwich and cookie. Cookie was amazing, kinda pricey at $5 but worth it for the size and quality. Egg sandwich, while good, didn't feel like it fully justified the $14 price tag. Not the most complex flavor and just put between two pieces of regular white bread. Even with that though the customer service was great, and if I'm ever around there again I will stop by for a cookie.
Food was not bad...maybe i dont usually have this style...I think if you like more meaty tastes ..you will like it. I like a more balanced sandwich. Egg sandwich was a no frills type of sandwich. Service was nice and small eating area...we were treated well.

Just an FYI - Prices on the wall menu may differ from what you’re being charged. Egg salad & chips combo is $9 on wall menu vs $10 on the receipt. Employees were not aware. It was brought to their attention but there was no attempt to remedy this false advertisement. I wonder how many other guests have been incorrectly charged…
