Excellent Sushi & Japan restaurant experience. Be sure to supplement with shiso leaf for some of the rolls that you order. They provide choice wasabi when ordering. Fresh natural Ginger!!! "Use the tiny metal tongs please."
This is a superb sushi bar. Everything was excellent, so nicely flavored that soy sauce was irrelevant. One of the best sushi meals I've had in a long time.
Absolutely ADORE this place. No reservations, be prepared to wait. The closest I've seen in the city to service, atmosphere, and food quality that we had while visiting Japan. The ONLY thing I'll say is that I really wish that they didn't blast pop music and had jazz or similar, as for me it really clashes with and takes away from the otherwise lovely atmosphere. Feel so lucky to have this gem close by!
One of the most amazing places for Sushi. Hits the spot every single time. Usually always a wait but they dont take reservations. A highly recommended place for high quality sushi and service. My go to place in the bay area. Have seen the same people making sushi for the past 4 years now.
It’s expensive and you have to get there early, but boy is it worth it. Very good food and nice cozy environment. Absolutely worth the wait. My family and I have been going here for many years and they have never disappointed, the menu has shrunk a bit but my favorite- the whiteout, is still on there
Great food and service. fresh high quality fish. sashimi and nigiri were cut the traditional way. I enjoyed Tako, Maguro and Sake. Delicous! ありがとう!
If you enjoy great, fresh quality sushi this is the place to go when in San Francisco. I tried many sushi where I'm from but this place is hands down the best that I have had. The Green Tea is Great! I recommend trying the White Out Roll, Baked Scallop Roll, Watermelon Roll and the Halibut Tartar. You will not be disappointed. I didn't get to try the Shrimp heads but will when I come back. Great Atmosphere and Staff.
This is, by far, the best sushi between Noe, the Castro, and the Mission. Super tiny spot with delicious nigiri, wide sake selection, and interesting appetizers. There are no reservations so be sure to show up at open or be prepared to wait up to an hour for your table. I highly recommend the spicy cracker to start. The place isn't cheap, but you won't feel cheated.
This is our favorite sushi spot in the city! The staff is incredibly friendly, the fish is always fresh, and there is always something new to try! We always love getting recommendations on what to order and have learned so much about different types of sushi from coming here! So lucky to have this spot in our neighborhood!
This restaurant is 10/10 across all categories. Every time my wife and I walk in the host smiles and welcomes us back. The service is always impeccable and the sushi quality is the best I’ve had. Sitting at the bar and getting the omakase is the most fun I can have whilst dining. Finish the meal with the white out roll and you’re gonna have a great time. I love coming back here.
Absolutely love Saru - the fish is very fresh and every piece of sushi is delicately trimmed and prepared. I am also a particular fan of the Hamachi Truffle appetizer, highly recommend. The "Watermelon Roll" is also delicious - it is wrapped in a cucumber sheet rather than in rice; very refreshing and a great addition to a meal if you want to cut back on some rice.
Saru hits the mark for what you would expect SF sushi to be like - excellent. The fish is FRESH, rich in flavor, and soft as butter. The tiny space is clean, well decorated with authentic beautiful Japanese plates and serving pieces. And the staff is working hard as a team to take great care of everyone.
Been wanting to try Saru for some time now and finally decided to go during the weekday. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 and there was already a line waiting outside the restaurant. Would recommend coming a little bit earlier so you can get in during the first seating. The fishes are very fresh. The nigiri are well seasoned and no need to dip the soy sauce. The quality is pretty similar to some restaurant in Japan.
Tiny but mighty gem! I rarely get the pleasure of tasting good sushi since I live in Indiana. But, Saru wasn't just good, it was excellent!!! Though I liked everything I tried, my favorite was the negihama roll (the only pic where the rolls are not in a line). Other things we tried: Tasting spoons appetizer scallop and torotoro (not pictured, I was too eager lol), spider roll, naked scallop roll, watermelon roll, and white out roll. Sorry I cannot tell you anything about parking as we took a Lyft there. But, the place is very small so I believe that the inside seating might be difficult for people with mobility issues to navigate. However, there is some outdoor seating, that is accessible. The cost I indicated only includes food since we both drank water.
We decided to visit Sura Sushi for a casual workday late dinner. Our experience was nothing short of delightful. We started with Buri Daikon soup, which provided comforting warmth. Opting for a selection of Nigiri and Sashimi, we were thoroughly impressed. Each piece showcased the freshness and quality of the ingredients. From the Chu Toro to the O Tor, Engawa to Sunazuri, and Hotate, every bite was a symphony of flavors and freshness. Highly recommend this place.
This has been one of my favorite sushi spots in the city. They have lunch from Friday to Sunday. Few pcs to multiple pcs of Omakase to choose from. I love the salmon skin salad and the fish are alway fresh and yummy here. The nigiri it’s not over sized. It’s seasoned and the size it’s one bite perfect size. Tamago also taste like a honey cake. I love to save it to the last. Service it’s good as well. Down side it’s not easy to find parking in this area.
Lead by Chef Billy who got trained in Kyoto and Kanazawa with Japanese government’s invitation, Saru offers no frill but high quality Sushi with reasonable price for many years, and it’s one of the most loved Sushi place by locals. They also have a good variety of Izakaya menu and the place is family friendly. It is often hard to book so take out is another recommendation.
WOW OH WOW! I am so impressed. It is very rare to be so blown away with togo sushi. I called to eat in on Friday but they are full, so I placed my order for to go. The restaurant is pretty small inside but have decent outdoor seating. Bee, the server who packed my to go food, was very meticulous and packed everything so neatly. He even wiped the neatly package togo box. Very authentic Japanese experience of the attention to detail in packing! The eel sauce was packed on the side. What a genius idea. It keeps the sushi from being too soggy. 5 star! The sushi is fresh and perfectly seasoned. Not overpowering, and you really taste the quality of the fish. The sunomono is so good. It has pine nuts in it! For two people, I ordered Spicy dragon, spider roll, salmon tasting sashimi, miso soups, sunomono salad, and Rock and roll roll. Update: dined in there recently and was so impressed by some of the new dishes I tried. The tamago is a must have. It tastes like uncle tetsu cheesecake. So good! The seaweed salad is delicious as well. No fishy aftertaste. Very refreshing
small sushi restaurant in noe valley with high quality fish and rolls. expect to spend $20-30 for the meal, sadly the average price for decent sushi in the city. would come back but wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again. white out: must try! balanced flavoring and loved the seared fish
