The Sausage Factory in Castro is a wonderful place for a comforting meal. The meatballs are flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and the meat lasagna is hearty, rich, and always satisfying. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the food never disappoints. Definitely a neighborhood favorite worth visiting.

By invitation for my birthday and also my daughter's whose birthday is the same month and day, we attended The Sausage Factory in San Francisco. I ordered the Veal Milanese, and my daughter ordered the baked meat ravioli. My brother and partner ordered pasta. We all finished all our plates. Food was extremely delicious along with the crème caramel, which was topped with a raspberry sauce. Beautiful setting. Awesome, attentive service. See photos.

Gorgeous little stand alone eatery in the Castro. I was in San Francisco on business and I walked past and instantly loved the old charm look of the place, however it was extremely busy so decided to return before I flew home. Best decision I made. I returned and was seated in the front section of the restaurant. The service was impeccable. Nothing was too much trouble for them. As I was sat on my own, they came over made sure I was ok, chatted and was genuinely interested in why I was in town. The food was stunning and freshly cooked and the portion size was so large I ended up taking some of it back to my hotel. The atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful. I could feel the history of the castro seeping through the walls as I sat there, people watched and enjoyed my food. I would definitely go back, there was so much on the menu I wanted to try but didn't get chance to. It's a perfect place for a solo date or a catch up with friends/family.

I came up to Castro tonight. I've heard about this place from some people at a meeting one night. The guy that took my order was helpful, though I didn't see him again. The other guy was just trying too hard to please his customers. The food was really good. It would have been better with company. I really am tired of eating alone. Any takers in San Francisco area?

I recently dined at the "Sausage Factory" restaurant, and I must say, I was impressed with their generous portions of food. The restaurant certainly understands the importance of satisfying hungry appetites. Whether you're a hearty eater or simply craving a substantial meal, the "Sausage Factory" delivers.

I have been coming to the Sausage Factory for decades. They make the kind of Italian American food I grew up on. The staff are always friendly and attentive. The food is delicious, and the portions are quite generous. They have a decent selection of wines too, which I appreciate. There's nothing better than a pasta dish with red wine. Usually I eat here with a friend or small group, but a few times when I appeared with a whole gang of people (and no reservation) they have always made room for us. They have a HUGE banquet hall in the back. Great food. Great folks. Charming vintage vibes.

I had an amazing meal. We had spaghetti&meatballs (me) and lasagne (wife). This was exactly how I remember Sunday dinner used to taste! The familiarity of the food took me back to the 90s and actually made me tear-up. Ambiance and service were both incredible. We sat in a dark and cozy hallway type area. Very private; very personal. The servers were the utmost professional. This is my new favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco!!

Came here for dinner and it was a great experience. The Alan's Garlic Bread is so good. I ordered carbonara with chicken and it came with a big portion. It is very flavorful. The environment is a great fit for a date night too. Not too loud and not too quiet. Would definitely be back again.

This place is great. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is lovely. The service is perfect. It’s not loud, and it’s so chill. Really can’t recommend it enough. Wish there were more places like this. But there aren’t. It’s so special.

3.5 star actually The food at Sausage Factory is a bit of a mixed bag. The mussels were on the smaller side and the overall meal felt fairly average. That said, the pasta was quite good—definitely the highlight of the evening—and the garlic bread was decent, though nothing special. I’m curious enough to return and give their pizza a try next time. Hopefully, it lives up to the hype.

The Sausage Factory, another Castro institution, no you don't come here for a fine dining experience but for your mom and pop home cooked Italian food experience. The setting is rustic, it could be anyone's grandparents home and it works. It's welcoming, the staff is friendly and chatty and the food, did I say it's comfort Italian food. So you will get a bit more cheese than your doctor ordered and you will have a few more slices of bread and yes the portions are rather large. But all that aside, you step inside on a cool night with your friends and enjoy a glass of wine and some good laughter and your plate is loaded up.... You will walk out a happy person. And it won't break your wallet either. Enjoy

Located in the safe, clean and lively Castro area, this was an amazing finish to our day. If you're craving fresh, quality 👌, American Italian food, big portions and a dinning room with a ton of character The Sausage Factory is a sure bet for a great dinner. In a world of restaurants serving swill and disappointment, The Sausage Factory is easy on your budget and will leave you satisfied for sure.

Great place. The host and waitress were awesome. The food was very good. A little too much sauce on my pasta amatriciana, but that is my personal preference. This place has great a ambiance and great food.

Come on, a restaurant in the Castro district of San Francisco with the name “The Sausage Factory” has got to get a few giggles from the chronically immature like me. I was passing through town on my way to Portland and decided to meet up with an ex boyfriend after 25+ years. We knew we wanted Castro district so our first choice was The Anchor Oyster Bar, but it was closed due to Covid 19 so then we went to Hamburger Mary’s which was also closed. I didn’t have Italian on my mind, but I’m glad we ended up at The Sausage Factory. The food was excellent and it has an antique charm that makes it truly unique. After telling some of my friends in the city about it they all sort of responded with”Oh that place. It hasn’t changed much in 40 years.” Well, guess what? If something’s good, why change it? We started with mussels in a garlic sauce that were out of this world. Not exactly sure what was in the sauce to make it green, but I loved it so much I took a spoon to it after all the mussels and toasted garlic bread were gone. I was going to get the puttanesca, but I always get puttanesca at authentic Italian restaurants so I went with the chicken piccata. I was not disappointed. The lemon-caper sauce had just the right amount of tang and the chicken was so tender, there was no need to use a knife. My ex had the pasta primavera served with an alfredo sauce which looked awesome, but I didn’t try it. He said it was good, but couldn’t finish it because he was full. I, of course, never stop until it’s all gone if I think it’s good; full or not. Maybe that’s just another difference between him and me. Sigh. Everything about it was delightful. The server and food runner were very upbeat, fun, and efficient, and the food was great. If you’re in the Castro and want good, authentic Italian cuisine, go to The Sausage Factory.

I like the Sausage Factory. Basic pastats and pizzas, tasty garlic bread, consistent. Good, friendly service. They open early if you're hungry between luch/dinner.

We were there on Sunday in November for dinner. We had a large party and they put us in the very back room, by ourselves. At first we didn’t think it would be good, but they turned on the music and our waitress, Lauren, was great. She was friendly, funny and offered suggestions for dinner. The food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Most everyone brought something home. The garlic bread was good, like small thick crust pizza served with marina sauce. With 2 bottles of wine and dinner for 6, the bill was $250ish.

Another Castro gem that is loved by locals and travelers 🥳. Opened in 1968, has been serving authentic, homemade pasta, pizza and Italian comfort food ever since. It feels like a time capsule when you walk in. Charming wood decor, friendly staff. It's nothing fancy but definitely authentic and genuine. If you're in the area, you should definitely give it a visit 🌞🤩.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. I had the broccoli sausage pasta, next time I will order the sausage and mushroom pasta. That was is really good. Their bread is amazing. What I enjoy most about the atmosphere is all the pictures they have around the restaurant.

Decent food here - reliable staples and the vibe is casual, low-key. On my last visit the server lost my debit card after swiping it - somehow between the terminal and my table it disappeared. I signed to pay but the server and manager never offered anything to try and make this right. In fact, they seemed entirely uninterested in the fact that they lost my card : no offer to discount my meal or a free appetizer on my next visit; just a shrug of indifference.
