We attended a wedding dinner here, and it turned out to be such a wonderful experience. Food: A variety of dishes were served family-style, including chicken wings, rice, kimchi, soup, and beef. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The wings were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the kimchi really stood out as our favorite part of the meal. It was all so enjoyable that I’d happily come back again just to have those dishes one more time. (I Can remove all Negative rev from your business. If you want then please let me)
Everything about this place is amazing. I wasn't able to go before the pandemic so I can't comment on what it used to be like but I'm really impressed with the measures that are taking right now. Beyond the food being incredible and the service being fast and friendly, they are really taking all steps to make people feel safe. They have an outdoor patio with around 10 tables or so that are well spaced. Before you can enter they do take your temperature and have you write down your name and number, and you order at the front. We ordered the Bulgogi, the kalbi, and the scallion and kimchi pancake. Everything was well balanced, incredibly flavorful, and made with care. The meat was tender, and the pancake recipe. I highly recommend this place.
Modern and artsy, former Michelin star (2021) korean restaurant right by Golden Gate Park - DeYoung/ Cal Sciences. Good for groups, they look small when you enter but have a lot of seating at the back, so even if it looks full at the entrance, just go in and check :) We were a group of 6, and bill came out to be $25-30 per person. The scallion pancakes are BIG, the same portion size as a main, not a side. Plus food ofc was so good. Large vegetarian selection. I have been to many other korean restaurants and there is one courtesy bibimbap or japchae, but they had 7-8 vegetarian options on the menu! Highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians.
So glad to finally try Um.mas and definitely worth it! The sundubu-jjigae was everything you could want out of a soup on a cold day. It was incredibly fresh and well seasoned, like everything else we had. They had great portion sizes as well for the price. Staff were incredibly polite and the overall vibes of the restaurant were chill and such a relaxing, fun place to be. I'd definitely go back.
Best Korean food in town! And at a decent price! Highly recommend their bibimbap, corn cheese, dak galbi and kimchee prawns. Most of the seating is at the back of the restaurant, each table sits 4 comfortably. Consider a reservation, especially during weekends. This place gets packed. They also have the BEST side dishes.
I must say we loved everything! The meat was perfectly cooked, tender, the sauces were great and was super flavorful. We ordered what was recommended, the wings and Kalbi were certainly a winner. The kimchi fried rice was good and the egg perfectly cooked, but not our favorite. We’d rather have the seafood pancake instead. There is the option to grill yourself, but honestly they do it so great in the kitchen I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do that.
On a calm Tuesday in the city, I had decided on trying out this restaurant on Irving for some nice Korean food. Flavorwise, everything was a little underwhelming. The bone marrow corn cheese was extremely sweet, and was a little weird tasting. The La Galbi was decent, and the beef bone soup’s noodles were overcooked. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but these items should be good at any Korean restaurant. I would give it another try as the other tables seemed to really enjoy their food, but it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice for korean food in SF.
Having been here dozens of times over the years, Um Ma is an acceptable spot for patio Korean food with good vibes, especially on a warm day. Whether you are in Golden Gate Park or strolling through the sunset, it's conveniently located. Again, the vibes are good and the patio is a plus as it makes it dog friendly. Doesn't really feel like an authentic Korean place and it's a bit like they are trying too hard to be hip but maybe that's what sells. I recommend making reservations as it can get busy during prime time. The service is ... usually sub par. Even on our best visit, it was still lacking. I want to be charitable and assume they are just severely understaffed. You'll often have a hard time getting a hold of them and even if you do, expect to remind them multiple times for requests. They've made it so you can now order on your phone but for any special requests, it's the same issue. The food is pricey but a few of the dishes are actually worth it. Haven't visited in a while but apparently now they charge for extra banchan (side dishes)... what? I know times are tough but damn. While the patio atmosphere is nice and the location is convenient for many, there are better Korean spots even in SF (and much, much better in the Bay in general). Overall, the place is good but not great and while the atmosphere is lovely, things like the insufficient level of service and the inconsistent quality of the dishes makes it hard to make this a must visit for anyone.
Came here on a weeknight, never had trouble getting a table. The food is good but not great, partially due to the prices to portion ratio. We ordered teokkboki, LA galbi, beef bulgogi, pork belly, kimchi fried rice, bibimbap. Everything was well cooked. Galbi wasn’t too fatty and was delish, bulgogi was slightly too sweet but still tasty, kimchi fried rice lacked seasoning or taste, bibimbap had a unique western take on it, pork belly was mid. One disappointing thing - banchan (small side dish) isn’t free flow - it’s just season quails eggs, spiced broccoli, yellow pickled radish and kimchi. It’s disappointing considering these are inexpensive sides even from a restaurant owner perspective. I’ve dined here on multiple occasions, I’d personally recommend: LA galbi, scallion pancake, soonduboo jjigae, rock n roe rice and charred gai lon. Service staff were good! We enjoyed our food and service, just oddly underwhelmed by needing to pay for side dishes which are free flow in majority of the Korean joints I’ve been to. It’s not a big deal, just in principle? Would come again if I’m in the area. Total came to about $50+ per person with tips.
Food is tasty and comes out quickly after ordering. Madison did a super job of waiting on us. Top notch five stars for her. We were a bit surprised that the bibimbop didn’t have meet in it but it was still tasty with a nice selection of veggies. The white wine needs to be chilled though. But the beer is cold. Nice patio seating.
Food was generally solid with the exception of the seafood pancake, which was very doughy and not very crispy. Also lacked variety for the seafood inside. Service could have been better - there were several times when we clearly needed service (hadn't ordered, needed takeout boxes) and all the servers were chatting at the kitchen window. A table seated after us ordered before we did... probably not coming back, the food and service wasn't worth the higher-end pricing.
Chicken wings were very yummy and extremely crispy, tteokbokki was average. Overall, food was good but not life changing. Patio was warm and cozy, but indoor vibe was not great. Would recommend for a yummy casual dinner with a nice vibe and good value.
The food here is really good but it’s expensive and the service is appalling. We have been here twice in the last two years and both times we had to remind the server multiple times for our drinks and sauces. Anything from the kitchen is fantastic but for >$50 per person each time I would expect the service to be much much better.
I have yet to find a good korean place in san francisco. I thought the food was just okay and the prices were above average. Kimchi fried rice: pretty good with some crispy pieces of rice but nothing extraordinary 6 pc fried chicken (soy sauce): Very disappointing to me. We got the soy sauce ones and they were so salty with no balance of flavor. The texture was average and they were very overpriced in my opinion Sul lung tang: Pretty good. The beef was nothing special but the broth was quite comforting and the noodles were good. The banchan was kind of weird with the kimchi brocoli and the kimchi liquid was very thick, almost like slime. I did like the quail eggs though. Overall, would not come back considering the quality and price.
Five us had dinner and one of us loved it and four of us thought it was okay. The back patio is very nice and attractive. We felt the printed menu was not descriptive enough and left off too many items. The server was pleasant but we ended up getting the beef dish but non of the sides which would have made the dish much more interesting. So we felt the server could have guided better. As it was we were served a platter of beef and it didn’t impress. The soup was ok but not memorable. The seafood pancake was shrimp so why not call it shrimp pancake? The chicken wings were good but didn’t get devoured. My fish roe and rice was nice but would have been better with more attention to texture and vegetables vs just rice and fish roe. We spent thirty dollars per person so it wasn’t a great value. Lastly the table top was sticky which always bugs me.
We ordered the soup sul lung tang and ginger wings. The wings we fine, edible. I had ordered the honey butter wings and the guys at the table next to us suggested I taste the sauce on his plate first. It was pure honey. And gross and he was trying to warn me. So I changed the order ginger. Thank goodness. Then the soup came out. I took one taste and all I taste was bandaids! Bland, plasticy and inedible. A total waste of $22 x2 The service also was atrocious. When we walked in they had one table sat. And a wedding party in the back. They were so preoccupied with the wedding that no one even acknowledged us in the doorway for several minutes walking right by us and not even acknowledging us. I wondered if they were even open to the public. Finally we were seated. Oh and the barley tea we ordered 2x and they brought us 2 tiny cups and no refills or pot of tea and that was $7 each. Horrible food, horrible service, horrible experience overall. Avoid avoid avoid
We just ordered online. I canceled one of the dishes and when I got m Email the dish was still on the order. The website was a pain in the neck. also, We ate there 1 year ago and it was pretty good. This time the food was absolurely horrible. Greasy fried seafood pancake and tge ribeye soup was like boiled beef with water. tasteless. Not exaggerating. It was awful. Was not worth the price. No flavor and one small dipping sauce that was not enough. Was like food from a fast food place.
