Food: Smoked Beef brisket and pulled pork were tender and succulent. Definitely honored “slow cooking”. “Not Yo” Nachos was the highlight for me personally, a must try. Drinks: Blacker the berry was good but super sticky (maybe sugar stuff?). Overall review: Flavor bomb with every bite. Sunday wasn’t gloomy thanks to Jackie’s place. PS: Try choosing the tasty gooey mac n cheese as side for your plate!!!
I was on business trip, alone, looking for a place to eat. I was not disappointed: amazing food and service. Although it was full, I only had to wait for a couple of minutes, I was then seated at the bar and served drinks and food. The staff was amazingly welcoming. I never expected to have such a nice evening going out on my own. They made me feel at home. Keep up the good work!
The fried chicken wings were the best! Oh and the brisket was great as well. The fried chicken didn’t feel like there was a lot of batter, yet the skin was super crispy with a touch of smokey flavor. The meat...oh when you bite into the wings the meat was super juicy and tender. Definitely need to come try it out. Tip: they don’t serve BBQ on Sundays.
This beautiful looking food Taste Oh so Delicious is located in the Downtown area of the City of San Jose, Ca. If your looking for a nice place to sit down and have a great home cooked meal then look no more Jackie’s Place is the place to be, if you know what’s great for you !!! Go in pick a table, scan and order your food, also you can place an order to go when you first walk in no waiting !!! Food comes out quick and hot. All food is cooked with tender love and care. The meat just melts off the bone into your mouth. All sides are prepared with just the right amount of flavor for you to want more. And remember to pickup your homemade baked goods on your way out, because there just that Delicious !!! And remember tell them that Maria and Greg sent you, from Richmond, Ca !!! Enjoy … 🌸
The food was sooo good!! The smell from the parking lot was the first sign the food was going to be amazing!! Getting in the restaurant, it had a really fun/family vibe!! Everyone was so nice and helpful! Despite our large party the food came out quickly and together!! I got the Everything's Bigger In Texas Sandwich and the amount of meat piled on the brioche bun was spectacular!! It wasn't overly coated in BBQ sauce so the real smoky flavor of the meat was the star!!! We were also given the Best Chicken Skins I've ever had!! Beautifully seasoned not to salty or oily!!! Definitely a great place that I look forward to going to again!!!
Had the brisket nachos for appetizer and we all enjoyed them! Came back the next day before we headed home to have some more. I had the catfish dinner with Collard Greens, Mac N Cheese and cornbread. It was delicious. Everything is ordered through QR Code on phone and bought to your table. My only issue would be condiments weren't included with my catfish meal. I thought it might come with tartar sauce but I went back on the menu and there was a charge for that. Only BBQ Sauce and Ketchup were on the table. I still give it 5 stars. Treat yourself to a dessert to go on the way out!
- two meats combo: [brisket and pulled pork w/ mac & cheese + rice & gravy and corn bread] ($22) - seafood gumbo cup ($10) - "cracka lackin" chicken skins ($7) mhmm jackies place was such a good choice for dinner and im so grateful to have been able to dine in! the staff at this place are so sweet and they really bring out the good vibes. id say my dining experience here felt home-y and the food was so so delicious. i gotta say the rice with gravy was one of my favorite side dishes (def a must try)! the chicken skin was bomb too. the sauces paired with it definitely added a lot of flavor and tasted best freshly made. the brisket is so soft and just melts -and the pull pork with their house bbq sauce really complemented both meats. for the gumbo - the flavor was really good but it was a bit too salty for my liking. overall really enjoyed the place and would love to go back to try the other items on the menu like the desserts :') 10/10 would recommend yall checking this spot out!! tip: family/kid friendly parking spots available in the back big portions for sharing and take home
I had no clue this place existed in San Jose. The food is incredible. For starters, I had the seafood gumbo. Packed with flavor and tons of seafood and sausage. For mains, had the fried chicken, ribs, with collards and mac & cheese. Fried chicken was incredibly crispy and moist on the inside. Ribs had a fantastic smoke on them and fell off the bone. I loved the collards and I appreciate them being done with smoked turkey. And then the cornbread muffins.... Incredible. Of course, can't have southern food without the sweet potato pie! Super friendly staff and some awesome Motown jams playing. Highly recommended!
So I grew up mostly in southern states and parts of Texas and I thought for sure in my many years in the Bay Area that I had to accept that good BBQ was not nearly as available as those places, but Jackie's really blew me away with how perfectly all the food was made, plated, presented... and with fantastic service and an easy breakdown of how the restaurant operates. Ordering was simple with a self-service approach to the dining area. I loved the ribs and would recommend trying them without sauce at first so you can really taste the perfect smoky finish on them. The sides are all really great- would say that a more traditional coleslaw would be fantastic (this one was quite spiced with a kick!) thanks so so much for the great food experience will be back!! Thank you Juju for the hospitality.
I have ordered bbq from here online and it was delicious. This time we decided to dine in and the experience is great. Came here for Sunday brunch with my sisters and our families. We had a table of 8 so they could not seat us until the whole party was here. The place isn't too big so that's understandable. The staff was extremely friendly and they referred to everyone as family. They were very attentive and explained the menu to us. The food was amazing. I had the smoked brisket hash. My sisters had chicken and waffles. One was red velvet and the other had strawberries on top. My sister boyfriend had the jack sauce chicken and waffles. He said the sauce tasted like cinnabon and had candied pecans. And of course we ordered the bottomless mimosas. They had a live band which made the experience even better. There aren't very many soul food places to eat in San Jose, so I am really happy this is close to home. Can't wait to come back for more. Check out my IG for more pictures @foodie_wit_a_bootie_408
The entire experience was awesome. I from GA and I've been searching for some real Soul Food in Cali. From the moment that we walked in the door, we were treated like family. JuJu greeted us with a smile. She then took the time to explain the service concept (no waiters - table ordering, which I loved) and answered all of our questions. Every morsel was delicious and hot! The lemon pepper wings and the peach habanero wings were so good that we placed a double order of 12. The oxtails were tender and flavorful. I couldn't decide on what to eat for my entree. So, I had a side order of Uncle Greg's Ribs. Now, let's talk about this Big Red! OMG! Delish! We couldn't finish it. So, we took the rest with us. As busy as she was, Ms. Jackie took the time to come out and chat with us. At the end of it, you could "stick two forks" in us because we were absolutely done!!! However, we definitely will be returning in a few weeks to try some of the other selections.
First time here. The food was delicious. I had the 2 meat meal with smoked brisket and fried chicken side of mac and cheese and candied yams. Service was fast. Juju is very friendly and very helpful in explaining the menu and how to order. We will definitely come back and try the other food on the menu. Side sauces are on point. Ordered the peach habernero and set it off sauce, and they are not spicy.
12/10 HANDS DOWN THE BEST FOOD EVER‼️ My husband and I were in town visiting and Of course I googled blacked owned soul food and Jackie’s Place popped up! Just from the pictures I knew it was going to be something serious! When I walked in I was just amazed at all the blackness ☺️ in there on a Sunday after church . It definitely made me feel like I was back home in the south. Any waaays the food was hella good, the 1st bite my heart just sank! The service was amazing , the food, everything was amazing about this place and just in conversation with a friend she said she’s been here and loved it! So I would definitely 100% come back again and again and again.
I knew this place was good as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. You can smell the BBQ from the parking lot and the experience inside doesn’t disappoint in terms of atmosphere and, of course, taste. You order either at the counter or using your phone. Apple Pay is easily accepted!
The food was good. I loved their fried chicken, Mac n cheese, corn bread and banana pudding. The ribs are good too. My sister also liked their gumbo. Make sure you have your entire group to be seated; they are strict about this policy and it takes the longest. Once you order the food comes pretty quickly.
Great food, atmosphere, and staff. Our table ordered gumbo, a fried chicken sandwich (no sauce; dry) and fries, oxtails, and southern fried fish. The food came out fast and hot, and everything was super delicious. For dessert, we tried the key lime pie and the "Sweet of the Week" which was lemon cake this week, and both were delicious. We will definitely come back!
I ordered a catered Thanksgiving lunch for my office, and Jackie's Place exceeded our expectations! We have many vegetarians on our team, and their menu offered fantastic options to accommodate everyone. The vegetarian jambalaya and sides (mac and cheese, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and potato salad) were bursting with flavor—truly impressive for a catering order of this size. The food was freshly prepared and arrived at our office still warm, which was a pleasant surprise. For the non-vegetarians, we had brisket, and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. The portions were incredibly generous, with more than enough for everyone to enjoy. Highly recommend Jackie's Place for their quality, flavor, and attention to detail!
Great BBQ!! I love their brisket and pulled pork sandwich. Their sides are good as well. I recommend this place hands down!!!! Only challenge is parking and a long wait at times proving how great this place is!
My first time visiting. I wanted to try some good soul food and after today's visit I will have to return and try the rest of the menu. The location on 1st street in downtown San Jose across from the County and City buildings was easy to find. The access and parking in the back of the building. The building is a 2 story facility with the restrooms located at the bottom first floor. The ordering of the food was a no waiter or waitress available style. That was interesting. I decided to try the Catfish with the rice and gravy side dish and the chili beans. The fish was splendid and delicious. They had BQ sauce and ketchup on the tables with plenty of napkins and forks available. The white rice with gravy was MUY BUENO!! The chili beans was taking me to NOM NOM city. The watermelon lemonade was so good with ice. I should have ordered 2 instead of 1 cup. The hostess and greeters were pleasant and helpful. Once I ordered and sat down. I got my plate in 2 minutes. It was a great experience and will have to bring my lady and momma some time soon. Their menus have the brisket and ribs and chicken and some good desert for your cravings. The weather was beautiful today and the patio seating available made the facility extra special to visit. Next week is my Bday and looks like I may have to make another stop by Jackie's Place for some soul food. Show less
I'm so glad I chose to celebrate my birthday there. They don't take reservations, but recommended I come with my group of 10, when they open at 11am on a Saturday. It worked out so well. I love how there are not "waiters" but QR codes and the front register. Everything guests need is freely available, either on the table or at strategic places. It makes everything flow seamlessly. Most of the front-facing staff is family and fabulously attentive. All of my guests enjoyed their food and a visit from Jackie herself to our table. Jackie's Place did not disappoint! Highly recommend!
Salty but delicious. My taste buds were on point this day. Mothers Day. My mom enjoyed her catfish. I, however , did not favor all the salt on my brisket, and chicken was heavily salted. I must have drank 2 lemonade and 2 waters to flush it going down into my belly. It wasn't too bad. But be aware cooks about preserving the foods for later. The atmosphere is on point. Service is split hairs fast. There is plenty of seating. Live bands on weekends. Great Dranks. Suggestion Lemon Drop! I'll come here again. Try a different plate. It's definitely a place to visit and get in some soul food.
Hands down the best BBQ we've had in California. You can smell the mouth-water BBQ smoke as soon as you arrive. Service is fast and friendly. Ribs and candied yams are always amazing! This review was done in connection with a Toast promotion.
Ever since Lily Mae is not around anymore I drove by this place by chance and it said soul food on the sign. Parked and went to the restaurant with curiosity, saw the menu and had to try the 2 meat plate and a cocktail Gin and Juju. Eating the food was fantastic. The fried chicken wings was not cut in half, massively meaty and the brisket had great smoked flavors. My 2 sides was beef chili and Mac and cheese. Gobbled them up quickly and the cocktail was super great and had me feeling good. I loved the look inside as well as it was cozy and relaxing as I was eating. Best way to get here is probably through vta light rail and get off at civic center station. And dessert was nice and sweet with their peach cobbler. Thank you for having soul food back around San Jose Jackie's Place!
The food was so good and we had a great service by Terrance who would come by and check on our table while we were eating to see if we need anything. We had sweet potatoes, cornbread, mac & cheese, potato salad, ribs, fish, gumbo and chicken. I would definitely come back here and eat again.
The food was great. I had the 2 meat combo, ribs and fried wings with mac&cheese, and collards. Chicken was plump and well seasoned. Came out piping hot. Wasn't that heat lamp type of heat, but the fresh out the fryer type of heat. The ribs were cooked so damn well. Tender with just the perfect amount of chew. The sides were on point. The pecan syrup was to die for. Also the watermelon lemonade was a banger. I'm definitely going back for round 2. Just a side note, parking is kind of tight, so if you own something with some size just be aware. I think there was additional parking but not 100% sure.
Hands down best dining experience I’ve had in some time. My sis and I came here to eat on a whim, and we couldn’t stop talking about how good the food was, how easy the ordering process is, how convenient the setup is, and how smart the whole concept is! I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone I know who loves a good southern bbq plate- even if you’re vegan!
I’m not sure where to start. The food is absolutely delicious from the candied yams to the creamy mac & cheese to the crispy crunchy fish to the perfect ribs and soft mouth watering brisket. Make sure you don’t forget to get the corn bread and juju to sweet for some but I am in no fear of a little sugar shock. I love a family owned business and even more a black woman owned one at that!!! My boyfriend introduced to me while I was pregnant with our child and I have introduced many of people since then. A business you can feel good paying a little more than you want to every time!
Jackie’s Place serves my favorite soul food in the world. Their southern fried fish is one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had, any cuisine. Perfectly breaded and seasoned. Make sure to ask for their tartar sauce to dip the fish in. Their fried chicken is also unbelievably good with a great breading and juicy inside. We’ve also enjoyed the smothered oxtails and the nachos in the past; both were great. Ordering is through a digital menu and the food comes out quickly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
This place is top tier! We got the fish plate with Mac n cheese and yams with cornbread muffin. They were all FANTASTIC! The fish was fried so nicely and very flavorful. Adding the tartar sauce and Crystal hot sauce took it over the top. Also got the jackfruit nachos and it legit tasted like pulled bbq! Very surprised haha. They did a great job with it! Got extra sides green beans (good, a bit peppery) and coleslaw (just OK). Overall I HIGHLY recommend this spot. Lots of seating and space inside. The service as friendly and fast. Very well run and inviting establishment!
We were referred to this awesome soul food / BBQ joint. Ordered take out: ribs, fried chicken, peach habanero wings, lemon pepper wings, mac n cheese, greens, yams, gumbo, beef brisket, fried catfish, oh man.... There is so much good food here, and you have to try everything. I did order the peach cobbler and sweet potato pie as well. This place makes great food. The parking wasn't great as it is a small lot. On a busy night, you may have to park on the street. Though we ordered ahead, I had to wait a little more than the time promised, but I was able to sit at the bar and get a drink. Definitely a great shot to go with the family and friends. We will definitely be eating here again!
This restaurant is well designed and one of the few soul food places in the Bay Area. I can’t really imagine how organized the restaurant is, and the food is good too. This is located at the north side of San Jose and really convenient for those who live in that region. I researched this restaurant through Yelp, and knew that the place is going to be good. I decided to have Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich and it tastes really juicy! My expectations are far beyond exceeded and it goes to show why many people dine here. Knowing that the sandwich is good, I definitely know that the rest of the food items are good as well. The staff are amazing and sometimes they forgot to serve fountain drinks, but that’s ok since we can just call them and they will serve them right away. I didn’t really have an opportunity to order the plate with two sides and cornbread, but will order it the next time I come here.
We absolutely loved Jackie's Place - it's clean, modern, with top service & hospitality. We'll definitely come back again. Everything we ordered was delicious! You must try the fried chicken wings and Mac&Cheese. The pecan cause was amazing sweet and the peach habanero delivered with the spice! It was lovely to meet JuJu, Jackie's sister, who went around each table making sure the food and service was comfortable. It's very clear that this restaurant cares about the food, the quality, and most of all the customers & community.
Best all around food I have had in a long time. A little loud inside due to the hard wood floors but, excellent food good service. The self order app was very easy to use. Best collard greens I have had in at least 20 years. If you like tender collard greens, this is the spot. Very pleased with the food.
This was our first time being here and the host took her time explaining to us how it all works, there's no waiters like traditional restaurants but you order thru a link or you can go to the counter. They have self service for water and to go containers and everything moves pretty fast. The servers brought our food pretty fast and the portions are easily sharable and absolutely delicious. We tried the tri tip, brisket, bbq chicken, pulled pork, chicken wing and fried fish, chicken sandwich, and a variety of sides and desserts. The banana pudding was delicious as well as the peach lemonade. Well honestly everything was. Best fish I've EVER had. Will definitely be back
Great soul food! The place was packed with people from every demographic you can think of...black, white, Asian, Hispanic, young, old, children, teens..it was literally a melting pot of people who LOVE soul food, which was refreshing to see. I only wish we had more Soul Food restaurants in SJ. No offense to anyone, but SJ is over-saturated with Asian food. We need more variety here! Keep up the good work.
I recommend this place. The food is really good. The service is pretty slow. You can order from a QR code at each table. That will speed up the ordering process. I felt one of the employees a bit rude but the guy who was cleaning the tables was amazing. The parking is really small and is always pack. If you go for lunch on a weekend waiting time are more than one our. Just have that in mind. The place is small and pretty hard to maintain a normal conversation due to everyone talking, one of the loudest restaurants I have ever been to. The food is really good. Place feels understaffed. Still highly recommend this place!
Fantastic BBQ - the best I’ve had in San Jose! I love BBQ and have tried a few different places here and this is definitely the best. I had the pulled pork bun, and it was moist and flavourful. I also tried the rib tips and they were amazing (slight food envy here!). The sides are great - the mac & greens are standout. The service was fantastic - all the staff were very courteous and attentive. The restaurant itself is in good order and has plenty of sit down seating, as well as high tables and bar seating. I normally always take pictures for reviews, but the food looked so good it went straight in my face! I’ll try harder next time!
My husband & I came for a Saturday lunch date. I’m vegetarian, he is not, so we’re always concerned about options. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the enticing vegetarian offerings. We were seated immediately with gracious service the whole time. Everything we ordered was wonderfully flavorful and so good! The sides were amazing even the green beans, coleslaw is on hit! The macaroni and cheese is not to be missed. My husband said his ribs were some of the best he’s had You can taste the time & attention that goes into each dish & side. We definitely recommend Jackie’s Place .
Jackies Place never disappoints Went with a friend who had never eaten here. He wanted to try the chicken and waffles. He was not disappointed! He loved it. I had my usual Fried fish, yams and mac-n-cheese. Service is always nice and efficient.
Jackie’s Place is amazing. My husband thinks this is the best smoked brisket in the Bay Area and I agree. Being from Texas, I’ve been missing Texas barbecue and this place is just like home.
Came here on a Saturday afternoon needing my native nourishment to refuel my soul. Being that I am from Texas, at times I get a bit homesick for some food items I do not feel like making. Jackie's Place did not miss the mark of deliciousness!! The first few bites into the flaky/ crunchy well seasoned fried catfish, instantly sent me back to a childhood memory of me sitting in my auntie backyard in North Texas in the summer heat loving the fresh water fish. Then I tasted the next meat... instantly in heaven. Their smoke ribs were a reminder of how BBQ back home tasted! The sides, drinks, location, and service were amazing. I love the concept of the restaurant when it comes to ordering and service. This is a place I will always make sure to visit every time I'm visiting San Jose. Can't wait to return!
Came on a friend's recommendation and got a lot of what they offer today. So overall their fried fish is fantastic, great tarter sauce as well. All their chicken was great too. However the brisket and sausage was ok while the Mac and corn bread was mid. All in all for the fish at least I'd highly recommend them, other wise it's just an ok spot.
When I arrived at this particular restaurant I was unsure what too expect when parking in the cramped parking lot but I was surprised when I stepped into the beautiful dining room, great atmosphere and decor, I was served almost as quickly as I ordered by our server Leah and the food was Immaculate I had the Smoked pork sandwich with the side of Mac n' Cheese. the smoked pork was fresh and juicy and had too be some of the best tasting food I've had in a long while along with the Mac n' cheese which was breaded and frankly stunning. For dessert I had some of their freshly made Banana pudding which was top notch. All together I can safely say that if you're looking for a delicious meal go too Jackie's place. you won't regret it.
Jackie’s Place is about family and great food. I’ve complained about a “flavorless” food scene in San Francisco on previous trips but a local suggested Jackie’s Place and they did not disappoint. Soul food seasoned to the heavens and a family atmosphere from the time we hit the front door mat. They were friendly and quick to accommodate my party of 4. Plenty of space and you will need that elbow room when you start eating. Table ordering was as quick as a code scan and the food came out piping hot with a presidential presentation. The menu is vast, choosing what you want may be the hardest thing. The ribs were smoked and falling off the bone and better without any sauce. The catfish was fried perfectly. The fried chicken was like that brown paper bag chicken momma made back in the day…crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! We enjoyed yams, collards, peas, mac and cheese, sweet cornbread muffins and to wrap it up cobbler, keylime pie and banana pudding! Every serving size was built for 2 which meant we needed plates to go. I really like the fact that they have a “to-go” station. Grab your containers and pack it up yourself. This immediately became a favorite spot that I’ll look forward to visiting every trip back to San Fran. Jackie’s Place is the jewel of Silicon Valley when it comes to soul food!
Vibes are immaculate and you really feel like part of the family here. Food is 11/10…everything is delicious but can we talk about Scoop’s nachos?! That’s different and smacks so damn hard. Even if I crave other menu items I’m getting the nachos!! I’m interested to know what other items on the menu the family can come up with cause so far Uncle Greg and Scoop outdid themselves! Never leave without a dessert either.
Yeah, another legit find. This place was excellent and somewhat surprising at how good it was. You can either sit at the table and scan the qr code to order or place your order at the front and they will deliver it to your table. The brisket platter is what I ordered. Brisket was super smokey and tender, but unfortunately lacked any kind of seasoning. Had to ask for salt and pepper because there was none at the table and none of the 4 women (who appeared to be owner/ management) would not come and ask how we were doing. Instead they walked around aimlessly and had conversations amongst themselves the whole time. Had to flag down the bus boy to help us and then after he never came back we walked to the bar and asked for some there. A pork rib was added to my plate, and it was really good. Again super smokey flavored with not a lot of seasoning. All about the meat on this one. Wish I would have ordered the pork rib plate, maybe I would have got a few more ribs. The saltiness from the pork allows you to get away with minimal seasoning on pork ribs. Bbq sauce was unexpectedly excellent! And again very smokey with a very, very slight hint of vinegar. I don't care for vinegar based bbq sauces, but this was really good! Chicken was good, I wasn't blown away but it was good. I thought the fish was better and the batter that they use on the fish was salted nicely. The sides were really good. Mac and cheese was fluffy and the cheese flavor really comes through. The gravy and rice were simple but I really enjoyed it, had almost a cauliflower/mashed potatoe texture vibe to it. The red beans were good and not a bbq bean like we thought, really good. Your plate comes with a piece of corn bread which I thought was dry at first, but as you keep chewing realize that it is almost cake like. Nicely done! The highlight for me was the cherry grape kool-aid. It's just absolutely amazing. I wanted to drink 5 glasses! It's a perfect combo, tons of sugar, and so damn good! Perfect combo of flavors. They have a nice selection of creative drinks that look really good. Will have to try those on future trips. They have a selection of pies that looked amazing, and I'll definitely try to get back there to try them. A table next to us both ordered the chicken sandwhich, and it definitely looked the part! Massive and passes the eye test. We both looked at each other and down at our plates and had that moment where you wish you had ordered that instead lol.
We found this place while we were in San Jose buying a car. The food on line looked like big mommas food and we had to try it. The food was all very good. The meat was seasoned to perfection, juicy, and fresh. We had all the side and they were all great. Nice size servings and food was served at table in under 15 minutes. Yams, rib tips, fish, Mac n cheese, black eyed peas, BBQ chicken, and water Mellon lemonade are all must haves. I wish they had a Jackie’s in Richmond/Oakland are, we would eat here once a week. Jackie’s fine food is the real deal…
I didn’t come here with high expectations since I’ve seen so many bbq places that are overhyped by social media, but this place was really good. I had their texas bbq sandwich and it was fresh and really good. The brisket was flavorful and just melts in your mouth. The green beans that I got was also pretty good. I should have tried their corn bread.
Went in at 11:20am on a sunday, and on father's day. Parking is available in the free parking lot. But the space is a bit tight, and particularly on days like today it may be wiser to find spots near the wall. Food was excellent. Ordered the following: - Smoked Beef Brisket w/ Collard Greens & Candied Yams - Barbecue Chicken w/ Mac n Cheese & Rice n Gravy - Smothered Chicken w/ Potato Salad & Mac n Cheese - Barbecue Rib Tips w/ Beef Chili Beans & Rice n Gravy - Peach Cobbler & Banana Pudding Brisket was a bit dry, Mac n Cheese was really rich but everything else was really nice especially the Rib Tips and Smothered Chicken Service was solid, orders and payments are done via qr code link so once seated you can order and pay immediately and split the bill if necessary very easily. On a busy day like today where it's lunch time and father's day the orders arrived around 30 minutes after which was reasonable. Atmosphere was solid, no music and good for large groups to talk loudly. Though at max capacity it may start to be harder to hear each other, but not a major concern.
When i say this place was beyond my expectations that's exactly what i mean. The customer service was on point, i felt welcomed and taken care of despite how busy they were. the food is mouth watering! the best fried chicken sandwich i have ever had. and if you like sweet and spicy please get the Peach Habanero sauce. I swear my eyes rolled to the back of my head when those flavors hit my taste buds. their wings are hearty. the mac n cheese and fries are uniquely delicious! and the sweet tea is a must!! if you enjoy banana pudding get one. even if you're full, get it because it's amazing! i live 2.5 hours away but i'm already looking forward to going back! 10/10 recommend!
We were in San Jo for the day and found Jackie's place. No regrets and definitely plan on going back the next time we're in town. The food was amazing! If you're looking for a great place for good southern BBQ, go nowhere else. The brisket was amazing as well as the chicken. Don't forget the cornbread, potato salad and BBQ beans. The sliced bread just added to that home cooking feeling. Only thing missing was the pickles and onion slices.
Love Jackie's Place... I've been satisfied every time I went. Only complaint, one time I came and ordered brisket + extra brisket and requested the fatty pieces and they brought out lean. To their credit their menu does say they'll try to accommodate request and there's no guarantee. Aside from that, I think the food is good, not overly seasoned or salted and the staff is great. Diverse staff, and a decent amount of well mannered young folks working, I love to see it. My go to is the fish, mac, and yams.
Jackie's Place doesn't just have good food. It doesn't just have great service. This place, and the people working in it created a sense of community and made me actually feel like I was right where I belonged. The familial energy was palpable, and, as I sat there after my meal and took it in, it was clear they are a staple in the community. The food was excellent. I took a long ride in an Uber to get there and it was worth it. I am grateful I got to experience this special place.
I've only gotten takeout here and everything is pretty good but soul food is on the saltier side to me so I like to cook my own rice at home to eat it with. Portions are large so if you get two meats it's definitely two meals or one meat will be one large meal that will stuff you. I plan to eta there one of these days and look forward to trying the gumbo and banana pudding. Chicken wings, BBQ chicken, hot links, brisket, rice/gravy, chili, cornbread, key lime pie, and sweet potato pie were all good.
Best Southern-style comfort food in San Jose. Everything we tried was outstanding, Uncle Greg’s ribs are hands down the best I’ve had in a very long time. Tender, flavorful, smoky, took me straight to my childhood backyard barbecue with family. The collard greens were seasoned just right, the candied yams hit that sweet spot, and the hot link sausages were full of flavor with just the right kick. The brisket was good too, but if I had to choose between the brisket and the ribs, I’d go ribs all day long. This is good, soulful cooking that feels like love on a plate. Jackie’s Place makes you feel like you’re eating at the family cookout
Finally a classy Soul food restaurant I love Jackies Place the food was The Bomb! The fish was tasty crispy and tender, the collard greens were seasoned to perfection the coleslaw was tasty as well. Thank you Ms Jackie. JuJu helped us and was so nice to help us pick out our food since it was our 1st time there we will be going back I also got a peach cobbler yummy.
First time trying this place and I gotta tell you I fell in love with the food everything is made from scratch so good love the fact that they have different desserts to choose from ☺️ I tried the banana pudding and the lime pie so delicious. I love the cornbread and before I forget, the grape Kool-Aid was so good everything was amazing a new restaurant for me to make it my top 10 on my list the staff was very helpful and respectful and welcoming, and a shout to the owner, very friendly and welcoming thank you !!! 😊 🙏
Loved it, superb spot. Hard to find as it is tucked away. The best way is going northbound on N First street and turning into the parking lot, which was pretty big. Food was amazing, the dinning room was huge and had a good lively vibe. The chicken has a heavy smoke flavor and was super tasty and seasoned to perfection. The pulled pork was tender but could use a bit more flavor.
Amazing food with incredible service. Everything is super fresh and very tasty. They also have free parking, and the prices are super reasonable. Extremely generous portions Texas style. The staff are very friendly and kind, and I noticed that they always great all their guests with a smile. Really nice atmosphere in a wonderful Southern BBQ and fried chicken spot near downtown San Jose. Highly recommend checking it out.
OH MY, What a treat 😍 👏🏾 💕 Food was Hot, Fresh and Delicious 😋 Service Was pleasant. I Ordered the fried fish with rice & gravy and greens , Hella Good. My Sister ordered the brisket with yams and Mac & cheese, she was dancing in her seat ( Yall know what THAT Mean right, lol 😆 😋) We both was actually 😆 . The drinks 🍸. .Eh, Was our least favorite, probably won't be ordering from the bar while dining there, we had 3 each and felt nothing but bloated and they were inconsistent, sugary, bitter, Eh.... But, the Food.... ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 💯, We'll Be Back 4 Sure .
This place had a full parking lot so we knew it was going to be good! We ordered our food and got it right away so it was HOT and delicious! The restaurant was clean with plenty of seating. We don’t really like to scan the QR code to order but it wasn’t a problem. We will definitely be back when in the area.
I’m mad at myself for not trying this spot sooner. Everything we tried was amazing, especially the fried fish and candied yams. Servers were SO generous and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. I will 100% be coming back and bringing more people with me so they can also fall in love with Jackie’s.
This is a great barbecue place we happened to find. The beef brisket sandwich was outstanding. Very nice atmosphere and quick service.

Amazing food with good customer service and a nice atmosphere. It was so pleasant to find a Soulfood restaurant in the middle of San Jose, California.

I've heard Jackie's Place has the Soul Food in the the South Bay. I might have to agree with that statement... I went to lunch with my boss, who happens to be from Houston. He whole heartedly agreed this was some legit Southern Texas BBQ. You can smell the BBQ aroma when you get to the back parking lot. While the parking lot isn't small, it fills up quickly, so beware... The venue is much bigger that it looks from the street. The interior was more spacious than I thought; with plenty of seating available, not to mention a full bar and an outside Patio as well. There isn't really any table service, you scan the QR code and order from your phone and a staff member will bring out your order. If you need something ask one of the staff members, they will gladly assist you. There are a couple of water stations along the wall with to-go containers underneath. #TexasBBQ: ~ EVERYTHING IS Bigger in Texas" - 4.5/5 This was one Massive Sando! Talk about generous portions! The meatatarian in you will be screaming with joy. Everything tasted soo good; The Smoked Pulled Pork & the Smoked Brisket just fell apart, so tender, juicy and flavorful. The Hot Links have a nice little kick to them. delish! EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS! I had to pack half of the sand to go... Side of Fried Fish Fillet... I'm presuming it's catfish - 5/5 ~ Fried Fish Fillet - 5/5 I'm so glad I was able to order a Side of Fried Fish Fillet. I did want to try it, especially since one of the staff members said it's one of his favorite items on the menu. I'm presuming it's catfish, wither way it was fried to perfection. Crisp and light without being too oily. ~ key lime pie - 4/5 This was a bit different. I'm not sure if it's this is the way they make it. There wasn't a traditional crust on the bottom. Still...it was very tasty, not too sweet or tart. Now I need to return and try the fried Chicken.
Came here with a coworker and had a good lunch. Ordered the cracks-lacking, and a cup of seafood gumbo. Food came out fast and hot, good flavor and portion size. Place was clean and friendly staff. Wasn’t sure if I needed to flag down a waiter, or order through the phone, but never ended up getting a drink refill, not a huge deal. Would like to come back and sample some pies.
Ms Jackieeeee put her whole foot in this food! As a transplant from the South and living in the South Bay I often miss soul food (unless I cook it myself). Thanks to Jackie's Place that void is now filled. Went recently for the first time and it was everything I expected and more. The staff was super nice and personable and even came around to the tables for small talk and to see how everything was. I had the fried fish plate with Mac n cheese and collard greens. Ahhhmmmaaazzziiinnnggg! The fish was fried perfectly, seasoned to perfection. Make sure you come hungry, the portions are large and full of soul. I will definitely be back, some many more things I need to try on the menu!
The food here is too salty, I wish they start adding less salt. This way the customers who want more salt can use salt shakers, I think that would be the common practice for any restaurant. Other than food being salty, everything else is wonderful. I also watched a UFC match there and it was amazing.
The place has a nice comfort food vibe but gets too noisy to converse across a table when the tables fill up due to the interior design, reflective recessed ceilings, etc. The BBQ was good and portions were large. I wish the sauces were easier to try - you have to order via QR code so make sure to pick all the ones you want up front or you might miss out. They did have a sweet BBQ in a bottle at the table.
My father and I ate here on a Wednesday night, they close at 7 pm. I think on Google it showed 9 pm, but I may have been looking at the wrong location. We got there around 6:30, yes 30 mins before close. They said we can only order to go, as there were not any servers. Then they said we can sit down, order and pay via the QR code. That was fine. We ordered our food, it came quick. I had the fried fish, ribs, greens, Mac n cheese, cornbread and banana pudding. The fried fish, ribs, and Mac n Cheese were great. I wish there was some lemon or sauce with the fish. I think you can order that (.50 or something). The bbq sauce was great. Ribs were tender. The fish was crispy and flaky. Delish! There was some sweet sauce, not sure what it was for, but it was really good. Condiments on the table were ketchup and hot sauce. I didn’t care much for the Collard Greens, I thought they were extremely salty or just over seasoned. I couldn’t finish them. There was no vinegar on the table for the greens, I’m sure I could have asked. Cornbread was ok, I wish there was some butter or honey to go with it. Again I’m sure I could have asked. The Banana Pudding was ok, tasted like the other Texas Pudding I’ve had. My dad had the brisket sandwich. He said it was good, but lots of fat on it- overall good. Parking was tight. The lot could use some more lighting. Overall ok, I would go back for the fish
My recent visit to Jackie's Place, a black-owned BBQ restaurant in San Jose, left me with mixed feelings. The atmosphere and service were undeniably praiseworthy, creating a welcoming and friendly environment. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a positive dining experience. However, my expectations were slightly tempered when it came to the brisket and ribs. I was anticipating succulent, juicy cuts, but unfortunately, they fell a bit short in that department. The texture was slightly drier than what I had hoped for, which impacted the overall enjoyment of these signature dishes. Despite this, it's important to highlight the positive aspects of Jackie's Place. The commitment to providing excellent service and fostering a comfortable atmosphere is evident, and I believe with a little tweak in the preparation of the meats, the culinary experience could reach its full potential. I would still recommend Jackie's Place for its warm ambiance and attentive service, with the hope that the kitchen can elevate the juiciness of their BBQ offerings.
This place is a must try. I feel like they have a lot to offer. Being from Alabama I know real soul food and growing up in TX, I know BBQ. Both were pretty good here, but left a little bit more to desire. On a 1-5 Scale Ribs ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (prefer spare ribs but not bad) Sausage Link ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chicken ⭐⭐⭐.5 Brisket ⭐⭐⭐ (too dry) Fish ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Greens ⭐⭐⭐ (too salty for me) Mac ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coleslaw ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Yams ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cornbread ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Banana Pudding ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
There are pros and cons of this restaurant. But I will still give this place an A- and 4.5 stars!!! Cons: The only con I have is that it is self order. They have QR codes on the table and you place your order with the QR code and then they bring out your food and drinks. There is also a water station, so if you want water you can grab it yourself. The bad part about that is if they forget something on your order or get it wrong you have to flag down someone to get it fixed. It's not a deal breaker but it was difficult to get someone's attention. Also, I wasn't a fan of the fried chicken. Could've had a little more seasoning on it. Pros: Almost everything that I tried was so delicious. My favorite had to be the loaded fries. That definitely is a must try !!! There was so much that you could share with several people and still have some left. Also, the catfish was off the chain. Loved the mac and cheese and ribs. I had a Cadillac Margarita and it was made perfectly. The peach cobbler was good but not outstanding, just good. All in all, I can't wait to go back and try other menu items.
I come here allllll the time. Food is absolutely amazing. Customer service is amazing. Music be on point too. But today, i was disgusted. This is my first time interacting with this cashier. I didnt get her name and i wish i did. But it was a young(maybe late 20s, early 30s) African american lady. I was waiting in line to order a drink to go (due to already had dined in). Another gentle men came in and stood on the side of me. This young lady left the booth stand to sit people and approached the cashier. She completely ignored me and greeted the gentlemen on the side of me (and was not even in line). Took his order and everything. So i patiently waited because I didn’t wanna make a big scene and all I wanted was a drink. So once she completed the guys transaction she said hello but it was dry and never even looked at me, like i was a bother to her or something. So when I finally take my order and all I got was a cup of Kool-Aid. I gave her my cash and when she goes to give me my change, she act like she didn’t want to touch my hand and she put the change in the air and dropped it in my hand. I am a gay woman and i felt unseen and disgusted by the way she treated me. I promise my gayness or who i am period, will not rub off on her. We are all equal and at the end of the day, we all should respect one another. Especially if i am spending money in the establishment that she works in. I hope her attitude gets adjusted towards my community or just in general. Other than that, i always enjoy myself and the food, but i just did not like how she treated/handled me.
So this was my first time eating here at the recommendation of my sister and I was really impressed!! If you dining in, they have a unique experience. There are no waiters or waitresses. You simply use your phone to scan the QR Code on your table, bring up the menu, order your food and pay online. If you're paying by cash, you go to the cashier and pay. The food came out piping hot and it was absolutely delicious!!! I had the BBQ ribs, collard greens, mac and cheese cornbread muffin, watermelon lemonade and peach cobbler. We went there on a Sunday afternoon. So it was understandably very busy. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated. The parking lot was full, so we parked around the corner. The staff was responsive to our needs and friendly and courteous. I would definitely come here again.
Came here with my family by local recommendation. I do enjoy good soul food and was excited to try their sweet tea and chicken and waffles. My wife ordered a bbq plate with ribs and brisket, and our 2 kids ordered a kids plate, but ended up sharing rice, fries, and a fried chicken breast from the main menu instead. Drinks were great and I favor the smaller crushed ice like they do here, but they didn't offer free refills so as a personal rule of thumb minus a star whenever they don't refill your drinks. Staff was friendly but don't seem to follow an attentive dynamic. Instead of ordering through the server we were directed to just scan the menu and order through our phones. Also as excited as I was for the maple "bacon" waffle topping they gave the tiniest little sprinkle of bacon bits that I didn't even notice any bacon on it at all until halfway through finishing it. This is a good soul food place but not the best I've eaten at. Still preffer Brenda's or Hard Knox Cafe in SF.
A good option if you are craving soul food. The staff is friendly, and the place is super clean and with a lot of natural light. Be aware they are suffering (like many others) from a lack of staff, so the wait could be longer than expected. For lunch, I ordered: - Chicken and Waffles - Mac and cheese - Coleslaw Food arrives at the right temperature, with flavor and the texture you appreciate every bite. And PLEASE, do yourself a favor and order its banana pudding... chef's kiss.
My friend brought me to try Jackie's Place! I personally ordered: 1 Smoked Beef Brisket Plate 25.00 Bbq sauce on the side Collard Greens (w/ Smoked Turkey) Mac and Cheese Cornbread Muffin Fried Chicken Wings 4.00 With tax and tip came to around $33. Brisket was unfortunately dry. Fried chicken was good. I did have a stomach ache after, not sure if it was from the mac and cheese, or just from the heavier food that I don't eat too much of. Overall, nice spot for some solid eats! Tight parking spaces in the lot.
Jackie’s Place is the go-to spot for authentic soul food and Texas-style BBQ in the South Bay. It’s hearty, high-quality, and deeply flavorful. • The Best Bites: The 16-hour smoked brisket and Uncle Greg’s Ribs are legendary. For soul food, the Smothered Chicken and Mac & Cheese are essential orders. • Don't Miss: The Honey Butter Cornbread—it’s arguably the best in the city. • The Vibe: Casual, spacious, and family-friendly with a modern "cookout" feel. • The Trade-off: It’s popular, so expect a wait on weekends. Portions are huge, so come hungry or plan for leftovers.

So I ordered a rack of ribs, catfish, and a half a pound of brisket. And $10 for peach cobbler that was not worth the price. Im fro Houston TX by the way. Ribs ok not the best, catfish not si good but doable, but what really upsets me was $18 for brisket and it was horrible, not to mention it was dry very small portion and it look like scraps like that was the last of the last. I wouldn't have served it . But on a good note great place to hang out for a drink. Food to me not so great. Cool restaurant thou.
Tried Jackie's place. It was okay. They have a menu that gives you a little bit of everything to choose from. I loved the gumbo. It almost taste like mine so I was impressed. It's loaded with lots of chicken and a few sausages, I had one shrimp but that was okay the flavor was there and that was good. I got the bowl versus the cup. I also wanted to try the fried fish and chicken. I'd likely go with the chicken over the fish in the future just because the fish needed hot sauce for more flavor. It's good though!! Definitely worth the order. The Mac and cheese was just okay. Just to say you had it as mac n cheese maybe it would capture more flavor with the large elbows but it wasnt exciting for me. The yams were good. They serve Pepsi products and have a couple of flavors of Kool-aid. They were out of Pepsi on my visit so I had to get Orange. The restaurant has tight tight parking and is innovative on ordering. Rather than wait for a server you order and pay via your phone so I'd say its kinda cafeteria style BUT they have a full bar and the food comes out pretty quickly. The staff is also quick to check on you. The to go packaging and water is on a stand self serve and there is a dessert display on your way out that includes peach cobbler. I didn't try any desserts but they have them. I think its worth the visit. Don't let my 3 star push you away I just thought it was okay.
I'm a foodie I love to try new food and new places. The service was great. The vibe was good, very friendly. I was really looking forward to trying soul food for the first time and was recommended to this place by a friend. I ordered the fried wings and side of 2 Mac and cheese. My husband ordered the smoked beef brisket and a side of chili bean and Mac and cheese. The food was okay. I really expected more especially since it's my first time trying soul food. The fried wings were okay, it wasn't the best thing I've had. It was a bit salty though. The Mac and cheese were dry, and not really enjoyable. I'd give my meal a 5/10.

Came because of the good reviews so was expecting good food but sadly that's not what you get here. This was some of the WORST brisket I've ever had and that's saying something. The brisket was like chewing leather, hard, dry, borderline inedible my partner and I couldn't even eat it. We brought it home for our dogs lol only reason this place gets 2 stars is because the banana pudding is excellent id come back just for that and also their pulled pork is decent lol.
So I am sorry to write this review because I am a fan of Jackie's. I have called several times about being refunded for my order. I ordered the smothered chicken meal and I received rice and chicken no gravy and the chicken was very dry and the cornbread was overcooked. I also drove over an hour to get the food. I called three times they know my name and there has been no attempt to reach me. I try to support our black businesses but I am done after this.
Nah, this isn't it man. It's quite tragic because I can see where it does shine. One, the fried chicken is actually really good. Crispy and juicy. It, the cornbread muffin, the coleslaw, and the potato salad were all well-made. The cornbread was moist. The potato salad was thick and not overindulgent on creaminess. We had peach habanero and creamy cilantro jalapeno. Peach habanero is great, you can really taste the peach in it. It's about 1/2 a jalapeno worth of heat. The jalapeno is good any now and then but way to indulgent on creaminess. The tables were pretty clean. The service here is pretty good though it is heavily self-service. But yeah lets just get started with the bad. One, my ribs were tough as all heck to eat. Idk who Uncle Greg is but brother can not cook ribs for the life of him or me. My ribs were tough, burnt (not in the tasty way), and pretty salty. Now, mind you, I'm a salt-fiend so if I'm telling you something is salty, it's salty. I have a strong liver, if you do not, don't subject yourself to it. I expected fall off the bone. Instead I needed to about the ribs with my knife like a plebian. While the fried chicken is exemplary for the Bay, my gf found some short black hair under the breading so it must have gotten there while they were dipping it in the batter so that kind of killed her whole mood. The Mac and cheese is like every other BBQ joint's Mac and cheese. Aka it was disappointing. The beans are alright but the brisket flavor really isn't seen. I wouldn't be so bothered but for the price of the plate, I expected better than burnt ribs or hair. They charge for sauces in this joint. We probably got unlucky but get Uncle Greg or whoever trying to make those ribs outta the kitchen.
The food is way dry and overcooked. The staff dont remember anything nor do they take your order. YOU have to have a phone and QR scan the food and give them your credit card and email. They sell your information to third parties and this place should not exist. The mac and cheese is gross. Lumped together and premade . Tastes old and dry. The beef brisket is grey!!! Dry. Dry dry. So, if you dont care about quality food then just drown everything in sauce. Anyone who knows how beef and pork is supposed to be prepared wont come here. The parking sucks too. Ugly black walls with white letters all over it... not condusive to having a nice meal . Stay home. Make your own food.
The food is over priced, the service was great the young fellow made good suggestions. The menus don't have any prices on them on line or in person. The food was mid to say the least the drinks were way too Sweet. Atmosphere is loud cafeteria still sitting . With some many other choices outlet here in San jose . This one you can miss
