For the last 3 months I have been living in Saigon, Vietnam. When I found this Pho place in passing, I was thoroughly impressed by the selection they offer for food. Not only is their pho selection great they have other dishes like Hu tieu, Banh Mi, and my personal favorite, Com Chien Ga. So I wasn’t super hungry so I tried to stay away from my usual Com Chien Ga (Viet Style Chicken Fried Rice) So I got Chicken Pho medium size (Pho Ga) and Shrimp Spring Rolls (Gỏi cuốn). Imagine my shock when the portion was beyond what I expected, mind you I’m coming fresh off the boat 4 days ago from Vietnam. The portions are huge for me, and I think it would be enough to serve 3 people! However, if you’re really hungry, you will eat very well here. I wholeheartedly recommend this spot if you are in the San Jose area.
I am so thankful to have Pho La within walking distance of my neighborhood. There are several pho spots now, in this part of South San Jose, but Pho La is the most consistent in quality and just tastes best overall. I love their grilled pork banh mi and their vermicelli bowls for lunch and the steak, steak and brisket, and chicken pho are my favorite soups for dinner. Their broth is always clear and packed with flavor. Meat portions in the soup are also more generous than other places I've gone to.
Food and the service was good. The place was not very crowded. We will be back here soon. There were plenty of parking spots when we went there
First time I've ever been there. The restaurant is a typical Vietnamese place, with Pho, vermicelli bowls, rice plates etc. I got the chicken with eggs and egg roll. All three items were good, and I was surprised by the fact that it's actually quite a bit of food. Usually those rice plates are easy to finish, but there was plenty of chicken and two eggs (instead of a single one, which is typically the case), plus the egg roll, rice and lettuce. All in all, despite the pricing: $17 for a rice plate ain't cheap, it's a pretty decent deal.
I always come for the pho & spring rolls ! This spot never disappoints!! I got a #16 this time.
Good food, quick service, vegetarian friendly
Small restaurant, three tables, mainly take out. The food was quite good! Portion sizes were also good. I had the Kung Pao Shrimp & Kung Pao Squid. Though both were delicious, I preferred the seasoning of the Squid. Nice level of heat without it overpowering the taste. It is busy! There may be delays, but it IS worth the wait. I will be back to try other items on the menu.
Absolutely delicious! The Mongolian Beef was perfectly cooked with a rich, savory sauce, and the fried rice was flavorful and satisfying. The Chow Mein had the perfect balance of tender noodles and crispy veggies. Great portions and fantastic flavors all around. Highly recommend!
Great lunch specials! The hot & sour soup is fire! The restaurant itself is small. There is only one large table for a big group.
For starters; ITS IN THE CORNER! Parking is sufficient. Atmosphere is casual. Service is typical; just sufficient not spectacular and not bad. The menu is typical and has good stuff. The food is DELICIOUS and the prices are fair. I go often.
The large sized Pho was Ginormous with delicious and savory broth, nice amount of veggies like bok choy. Enough for 2 meals!and barely $10. I had the brisket and another meat (#11?). Would definitely recommend. Friendly service, the waiter was careful to keep the hot soup away from our young son. Good food and people.
Hands down the best Phò in south San Jose.
Very kind and friendly workers. Clean restaurant with a good variety of Asian dishes. Love their pho noodle soup, the grilled pork rice plates, and vermicelli bowls. Add a pot of hot tea or a boba tea drink. Kids dishes available and an ATM right outside. Lots of shared parking in the Nob Hill lot.
Great for family and friends to meet and mingle. The staff are quite friendly especially the Owner of the restaurant. Best place to have soup when not feeling well, order #33-- it's only Wonton soup no noodles. To fill your appetite, order the spring rolls (veggie) #24. I usually fill my soup with mint leaves and plenty of cilantro. In addition, to add a bit of a sweet tangy taste, I also add the sauce that comes with the spring roll I mentioned above. Bon Appetite! Peak hours: (especially on Fridays) Lunch hours 11:45am - 1:30pm Dinner 5:00-7:30pm
I absolutely love the Banh Mi vegetarian sandwich here, it's quick to get and very delicious. My favorite place to grab a quick bite on the road. The honey cake is very fun to eat as well.
Great food, service and reasonably priced. They serve sandwiches, bubble drinks alone with the typical Chinese food.
Best Vietnamese food in the area, at a reasonable price. Mom and pop shop, super sweet, and they really do care about their restaurant. Food and drinks are great, and the atmosphere is comforting, the sort of environment that makes you want to be kind.d
consistent great food at very reasonable prices
It was a great experience. They had good waiters, and food came at a reasonable time. Good food, and each table had extra utensils and toppings that could be used. A lot of options of food, and includes Boba. Would recommend, nice place.
I've been coming here since high-school (2018) and have always loved the food!
This place was so delicious! The lemongrass beef was fresh, the sauce was clearly homemade with chunks of lemongrass throughout. The Pho broth was so appetizing and not overpowering. The restaurant is clean, the staff are friendly, and the food is on point. Can’t wait to come back.
Friendly and honest staff. They went out of their way to look up my significant other's information to return his wallet. The food is excellent, and it has been my regular stop when I get home from work on the weekend. Super fast service and delicious vegetarian options
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity. It was an "on the way" choice after work and I didn't expect a lot. Pho was tasty with plenty of noodles and meat. As described. I took a lot home and had it a couple of days later.
I am so glad I found this Restaurant “ Taste of Home” catch my eye, I drove all the way there and the food is so delicious + I support small business. The Lady at front she is super nice. I love this place. You should try it.
I ordered the beef chow fun, and the beef was so tender and flavorful! The bok choy was crunchy, and the whole dish was perfect on a cold, rainy day. The service was fast too.
Hometown Taste is a welcome addition to this local shopping center. My wife and I have dined there a couple of times and have enjoyed the variety of dishes we’ve tried. They have good food. The owners are very friendly and do a great job of making you feel welcome. The service is great as most people order take out, so you get their attention. It’s a small place and not really setup as a true dine-in restaurant. The decor is simple…nothing fancy. But, we go for the food. We have found their prices to be reasonable. We’ll definitely continue to support this local restaurant. Please give them a try.
My wife and I have been searching for a good Chinese restaurant nearby, and we came across a post about this one. We ordered Orange Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, soup, and an egg roll. I can confidently say that the food was delicious! The flavors were great, and the portions were generous. We’ve found our new favorite spot!
I recently dined at Hometown Taste, a new restaurant nestled in the Santa Teresa Shopping Center, and it was a delightful experience. The curry beef was rich and aromatic, with tender pieces that melted in my mouth. The egg rolls were crispy and packed with flavorful fillings, making them a perfect starter. The staff were warm and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made the meal even more enjoyable. I highly recommend giving Hometown Taste a try if you're in the area.
Highly recommend the orange chicken! Food overall was delicious and service was great. Will be returning!
The lunch special is a great value, comes with an entree, both fried rice and lo mein, and a soup, all taste well. I love that it’s also available on weekend. Also recommend their sichuan beef, it’s sweet and crunchy, very tasty. My son loved it!
This was my first time trying this place and it was an amazing. The food is very tasty and the customer service is awesome. One of the employees helped me carry my food to my car. Great customer service. I will be coming back. Thank you for making my first visit a memorable one.
The staff are really friendly and get to know you even on our first visit. We have been back several times since discovering Hometown Taste.
I like the food here. It's not very oily like other Chinese restaurant. It doesn't have MSG either. Price is very affordable. I'll definitely buy food here again.
I ordered the beef chow fun and it was excellent. Price was also very reasonable and will come back again
Excellent food and great service. I strongly recommend.
First time dining @ Pho La, the service was quick and the food was fresh and delicious. They accept cash and credit cards. The prices are reasonable too. We ordered the vermicelli bowl with grilled pork, the beef pho and the 🍚 plate with grilled chicken. Also, we ordered the vietnamese ice coffee and a avocado shake, which totaled around $40. My only issue was the ice coffee, it didn't taste like the usual Cafe' du Monde - French brand coffee flavor. It had a vanilla after taste, which I don't like.
I have looked for good Wonton noodles since I left VN and migrated to Canada & now The US. This place’s wonton is just my call. It was just right, the texture, the taste, the sweetness and the savoring. My husband, on the other hand, said Pho is just so-so. Not outstanding but not bad. The restaurant is clean and organized. The staff is nice and fast.
First time here. Nice, clean and friendly environment. Tried their seafood pho. Delicious but portion was a bit smaller than Pho Teresa’s and it costed more. Will try other dishes later.
I Naruto Love Noodles & Grubbn Wonton 🍜✌️
I’m always craving Pho, but sometimes im not looking to drive far from home to go to the usual spots here in the bay. Luckily I stumbled upon Pho La while looking for places closer to me and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered beef ball pho to go and the portion was perfect. Didn’t take long to have my order ready after I placed it either, waited around 5 minutes tops.👌🏽
This place is a bit off the beaten place and a little hard to spot, even if you're parked right in front. It's one of the better pho places near my company. I liked the Pho and always get the standard #1. You know, the one with all them beef in it. This is my litmus test and they passed the taste test. The server who took our order was professional but a bit anti-social. He didn't make eye contact or smile with our table of three. When we got up to pay, we had to wait a minute or two because the person behind the counter was too busy texting (again, unprofessional in my opinion) to initially notice us. I took away a star for this reason.
Clean place, pho was a bit above average, also ordered a house special rice place to go. Not too familiar with San Jose, and not really know much about the locals. Personally i do believe it a bit pricey; but then again, i may just be completely wrong simply for the fact that im not local.
My first time trying Pho La. They have a very tasty Lemongrass Chicken dish. My friend had the Won Ton Soup which was delicious and hearty. We also liked their later night hours.
Pho restaurant inside of strip mall with better than average Vietnamese food
The food is pretty good! We had some weird interactions with the staff. It was tough to get their attention to order and for to go boxes, but if that doesn't bother you, we liked it. I really like the Vietnamese Coffee. It has a hint of hazelnut or caramel flavor!
My boyfriend and I ate dinner here recently and it was really good! It’s pretty small inside to dine in but it seems like most folks order takeout so seating wasn’t an issue for us. We both did the dinner special which included the soup of the day, an egg roll (vegetarian), pork fried rice or chicken chow mein, and two choices of entrees for $16.99 each! The fried rice and chow mein were both soo flavorful. For entrees, I got honey walnut shrimp and sweet and sour pork and my boyfriend got the kung pao shrimp and beef with garlic sauce. The honey walnut shrimp was perfectly crispy and delightful - that was definitely my favorite. The portion sizes were large and plentiful so we split everything so we could try it all. 😆 We’ll definitely be back to eat more of this new gem in the neighborhood!
I really love the restaurant they were nice and the food came out really good and the smell and the shrimp and chicken kinda have no taste but I give the food 8 out of 10 I will come back to this store
Food was good, not bad, but not really good. Service was fine, not bad, just fine. Nothing about the place would have me return other than convenience, which is real. $8 for a bahn mi, sure, I'll take average, unless I have my own mix ready go to at home.
Broth is a bit on the salty side. If you order any sort of chicken in your soup, it will be dry and stringy. The noodles are good. Not overly cooked, not hard. The pork in their soup is the barbecued type... So sweet and salty. Price is good. Service is fast.
The service was non-existent. My gf and I just seated ourselves. We had to track down the waiter to take our order. The food was great but pricey. Also, we both saw roaches crawling in the building. That was scary. After that, we booked it. My gf was traumatized. Never again 😒
The guy in the front at the register was extremely rude and rushing. They are scamming people here on their drinks and will charge you full price even if you order without boba. After mentioning to them why are they charging full price for it without boba they took off a $1.75. I’ve been coming here for a while now and I have no just realized it even after buying more than 10 drinks. This is horrible business practice and everyone should be aware they need to check their bill because they are adding on charges. Also they gave me my drink without a lid.
I’m not sure how this place got its high ratings - ordered a large #1 combination pho and I received what other restaurants would consider a “small” and the meat was tough and old. It almost tasted like they used old frozen sliced meat from Ranch 99, which is unacceptable for a restaurant. Do not recommend and avoid at all costs!
It really is a shame, we use to love going here, but service and quality have gone downhill. They just increased prices too because of "tariffs" and "the price of meat". I ordered a regular pho and there was noticeable much less meat, so I paid more and got less. Slow service, hard to order or get their attention, and they don't know how to use the new technology they just implemented. When we went up to pay, cashier didn't know how to use the system and even charged us an extra $2 for egg noodles. We won't be coming back and I suggest you do the same, they don't deserve your business.
Check your receipt. They will overcharge everything. 3 items came to 100 bucks. Could have had a steak and lobster meal instead of some shity soup. I will never come here again. Super rude. Makes me not wanna go out to eat anymore.
Service is always slow, the tables are always covered in dishes, and on my most recent visit I found 5 hairs in my pho. I’ve put up with them This long just because of how close they are but honestly I would drive somewhere else rather than eat there again.
Horrible service first time visiting. Walked in to Simon appared upset at seeing us and ask us "to go right " the place closed at 10 we arrived 9:19 pm more then enough time to it inside and there was about 10 families still eating . Very upsetting because we wanted some good pho and enjoy our dinner. Definitely never coming here again !!
I ordered chicken soup today. The soup was not hot, it was not even warm (it was like in room temperature) and the vegies inside soup all was raw and remained raw since the soup was not hot. They charged me "two" dollars extra just for having thick noodle. And the woman who is the waitress there was very unfriendly with me. Never will go there again.
We ordered several dishes and all were terrible. The chow mein was pale and bland, the Mongolian beef was a strange texture of beef, potstickers were cold and no dipping sauce, pork fried rice was also bland. Will never order from this restaurant again.
The worst Chinese food I've ever had. Beef and Broccoli, Cashew Chicken and Honey Prawns. All three dishes had plenty of rice. Almost no beef in the first dish, very little chicken in the 2nd and several pieces of prawns. The food didn't taste good and on top of all I got an upset stomach.
I read about this restaurant in nextdoor and tried it today. We ordered sizzling rice soup which tasted like water with very less vegetables.vegetable chow mien is ok not so great. I ate much better Kung pao chicken in other restaurants .vegetable and shrimp is also tasteless. No salt in any of the dishes. Taste is also below average.
