First time here while visiting San Jose on 11/23/2024. Came here because the place across the street was too busy and no regrets! Amazing drinks! The bar tender delivered great service. The Green Day seasonal cocktail was my favorite!
Warning: I like spicy food. I'm an Indian bois, deal with it. Pollo Adobo Pizza (wish I had the photo) Gayoza (chicken potstickers) Other food we had: Trio Mushroom Pizza Mac and Cheese Mazcal drink was ♥️
Drinks was bomb, food was fantastic, service was fast at 9pm Friday night. This place is underrated
Really nice place. Drinks were reasonably priced and they were very well made! Nice atmosphere as well!
Good food great vibe and friendly with groups.
Fun employees! I really felt like my friends and I can let loose. Great drinks and all smiles! I walked in because they had a sign for happy hour from 5:30-8:30!! No where else in San José did they offer this! Daniel, and Amanda were so helpful with helping select drinks. Derrik was a nice gentleman and always had us smiling. Please come here if you want a fun friend ambiance! Well chosen team! Will come back when in the area!
Had the premium set, yellowtail and tuna nigiri and a dungeness hand roll and both sauces, all very good
The service here is top notch. Customer service at its finest. Happy hour 5:30-8:30 tues-sat. Whiskey Weds. Is perfect for a business meeting or a couple to have an intimate moment & punchbowl Thursdays are a great time with a group of friends. FRIDAYS & SATURDAY NIGHTS ARE JUST AN UNBELIEVABLE TIME LOUD MUSIC, DANCING, FOOD, DRINKS AND GREAT TO SOCIALIZE WITH AMAZING PEOPLE. ..5 STARS +++++
Weekend reviews: There's usually no line to get in and their Japanese old fashions and lychee martini are delicious! That's probably why I keep coming back and I really should order something different next time haha. Not sure if we get lucky every time but there's always like one last open table for us. Drinks: 7/10 Service: 5/10 Vibes: 5/10 Value: 5/10
We got the fish & chips, but exchanged fries for onion rings. They even cooked it how we requested.... Sorry no pics, as we dove into it so quickly! 😂 Loved the addition of fresh shredded cabbage. Great flavors across the board... and the staff was great too! We'll be back again for sure!
The food here is amazing! I got the fish and chips and a fish taco, and I have the say, the portions are much bigger than expected. The fish taco was seasoned well, and the spicy ranch had just enough kick to be flavorful, but not overwhelmingly spicy. The fish and chips had a great batter that was light amd crispy, and the fish was flakes, but not fall apart. The waitress was sweet, and my food was served in a very timely manner. Surprisingly good seafood for a spot in downtown.
The food was amazing! The clam chowder was the best we have had in California. I had mahi mani with a side salad and mashed potatoes and my husband had fish and chips with coleslaw. l had a local IPA It was absolutely wonderful and the portions were good too! . It's about 2 blocks from the parking deck which has free parking for the first 90 minutes.
Great food is always a plus but what stood out the most was the service. Sorry I didn’t catch the name of the guy working but tall male was extremely friendly and professional. That is the reason I will come back. I ordered the combo fish and shrimp and enjoyed I really enjoyed it. I wanted to take some home due to the generous portion giving but I ate all of it. Since the fish and chips are fried it was not heavy at all. Again the service was legit and the reason I will come back to try other dishes and their specials!
Walking around the San Jose downtown area after running a couple of errands. I started looking for a lunch stop. Found "The City Fish" what a find! Freshly prepared pollock fish with fries, AKA fish and chips. Perfectly cooked fish and fries, fish was tender and tasty. A bit pricey, but what's not these days? Everything everywhere is a lot of money, with a $4.50 tip my bill was a few cents short of $30.00. For one person. I have to say it was worth every dollar. Mostly Pepsi products, BUT, the gem, bottled Coke with real sugar from Mexico. It's definitely the right drink for this lunch. Overall, highly recommended meal stop. I was walking so I didn't worry about parking, it seems like there is plenty of parking around, however.
Delicious Crab Cake Sandwich, absolutely perfect in every way. Stopped in mid week at 2:30 for lunch. Got quick, friendly and knowledgeable service, got our food quick and was very happy with the atmosphere and location in downtown San Jose. First time coming here and was not disappointed. Parking can be kinda tough in downtown but we were able to find street parking just 1 block up the street.
I’ve been to and reviewed the Cupertino location, I have the same great things to say about the Downtown SJ location. We ordered fried fish, shrimp, and scallops. I was especially impressed by the scallops, the texture was perfect. The fish and chips and shrimp were stellar as well, well-seasoned breading and not too greasy. I will be back, of course. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3/5
Have you ever wanted an extremely delicious meal (in a new city) & the 1st place you visit blows your socks OFF?! That’s a rare occurrence right?! Well THE CITY FISH, is an absolute hidden gem. I was staying at the Hilton & I googled “seafood restaurants near me” & of course I viewed the rating. I believe it was 4.8 stars with 646 reviews; pretty good right.?! The selection of seafood was AMAZING & everything my guest and I ate was sooo succulent!! Danny @ the register has SUPERIOR SERVICE!!
A nice little spot in downtown San Jose. We had a few starters, pizzas and drinks. The best and most impressive was the pizzas. We ordered the five-spice duck pizza and the pork banh mi one, which were very creative and of great fusion taste. Beers and cocktails were also good while the cocktails were a little bit overpriced in general. Overall a good experience!
I really wanted to come here for the Banh Mi pizza and it was good timing as there was a game on so the BF got to watch the game. Me – Food, Him – Game = win-win. We got the pizza and it was pretty good. The flavors were good and I liked how it was more like a flatbread. We also go the kimcheese fries which were good as well. With those two items, we were pretty satisfied. Since we stayed long to watch the game, we ordered a couple of drinks to justify taking up our seats for so long. We got the mugi mule and the lychee martini, which were pretty good, but definitely pricey for what it was. I don’t know if it was just that day, but there was only one girl serving the whole place, until a second one came to help her out at least an hour later. Because of that, the service was kind of slow, but she was a really good waitress. Overall, they have good Asian Fusion bar food and drinks and a chill place to watch a game. Make a reservation though as they don’t have a lot of seating.
Drinks were pretty good. Chicken wings and fries have great flavor. Highly recommend. Wish the happy hour was a bit more extensive. Only a few signature drinks and starters are included on happy hour prices.
Very attentive hostess, nice interior, music at a reasonable volume, not too crowded or empty. Hostess Lena kept coming back just in time to refill our glasses from the bottle of soju being shared at my table. (The mere fact that Nomikai carries soju is a point in its favor.) These are the good things! The not so good: they were out of the soju we wanted (there were only two varieties available). They were out of the duck far popcorn. And the "seven spice nori fries" were dry, kinda stale, and generally boring. (McDonald's fries are way better and far cheaper!) So... skip the fries... and don't count on anything you order actually being available! That said, the spam musubi was delicious, and Lena is definitely a credit to the establishment. I would probably go again... but it's not my new go-to spot ;)
Interesting Asian fusion place with food and drinks. Place really tries to be hip and clubby while the food is above average. Proposes interesting dishes like kimchi pizza and ends up perfecting nothing.
The best chicken wings I've EVER had!
Came here to visit my cousin. We came for drinks. Even though we just finished dinner, we still ordered the chicken wings. So glad I did!!! They were so good! The chicken wings were still crispy and they weren't overly dressed with the sauce. Still juicy and had a nice kick. Perfect! Service was great and the waitress that helped us was so nice (and pretty). I had the tom ka, the mule, and a couple of shots. Standard prices for drinks. Will definitely come back to check out the rest of the menu.
Very local fish and chips spot near the light rail station and the convention center. Amazing customer service!! He was nice enough to refill my water bottle when we ate there. The fish was good but just a tad greasy. If it was slightly less greasy it would be perfect! I loved the tartar sauce it came with.
Came here to try their fish lunch special. Friendly people and the food was pretty decent too. Came back again and got the fish and chips combo with clam chowder. The chowder was a lil bland for me. So you probably won't like it unless you like it simple. As for me I'd do more flavor. I did like the fish a lot so will definitely only get the fish and chips next time. Update. Went to get fish tacos during Happy Hour... Hmm so very delish
This place is hit or miss. I've come on the good days and the bad days. The food is good, I liked korean Fried Wings and the Miso Mac. The club only has one bathroom for both genders, so expect to be waiting in line for a long time. The drinks are inconsistent, but I always go for the saki bombs.
Great location in downtown San Jose. But when we went on a Saturday night, how come the place was empty? The food was just okay. The service was good. A lot of the things on the menu was fried. We initially went for a Japanese whiskey flight tasting and stayed for the food. The whiskey tasting was fine.
My wife and I visited City Fish on Sunday sept. 7th. As a foodie I always check menus and reviews before making a decision on where to dine. It's a little "hole in the wall" local place with 9 tables and nothing fancy. And I mean nothing fancy. You order at a counter and they bring your food when it's ready. We're land locked in Colorado, so anytime we are near an ocean we look for fresh seafood, which was the case here. I've had some great meals at little places like this but this night that was not one of those nights. I asked if the grilled snapper was fresh and I was told yes. However, when it came out it was really easy to see and taste that it had been frozen. Remember I am a foodie with 20+ years in the steak and seafood business. Two small, thin filets that were NOT snapper. And it wasn't grilled. It was covered with seasoning to hide the old, freezer taste and it was baked and way overcooked. My wife's fish sandwich had such a small amount of fish on it, she didn't finish it because of all the bread. I didn't finish mine either. So if you are looking for "good" fresh seafood, this is NOT the place to go.
I'm going to give The City Fish the benefit of the doubt because some of their menu options are either a hit or miss. While I enjoyed their Fish and Chips enough to rate it a 5, I can't really say the same for their grilled fish options. For its price, the appearance and taste were rather underwhelming. The tomatoes and fish amounted too little.
Drink volumes are pretty inconsistent. In my picture, the drink on the left is served after, and untouched. The drink on the right is the same and had already been drank, yet still has more than the new drink.
This place was super unpleasant & unprofessional. My friends' & I were waiting in line forever to get in last Saturday night while we noticed they were letting certain ppl in without a wait. We totally felt discriminated against. The guys at the door seemed rude & unfriendly. Finally we were seated outside but told we had to buy drinks. Well duh why else would we be there? We were looking for a good time. This place wasn't it! If you're not what they like or you don't fit their criteria, you should just pass this place up.
We just ordered our food today and were very disappointed. The fish and shrimp were okay, but the fries were unpleasant—overly oily, dark, and not fresh. It’s especially disappointing when you trust a place for good food and it doesn’t meet expectations. Unfortunately, this experience left us let down.
