Found inside the shopping center, this is an amazing place!! I’ve been to Ethiopia and this food is legit. There’s great Ethiopian music, artifacts for sale, seating in the patio or in the back. Order at the front desk then sit down at a table. We got the platter for two: 4 choices atop njera. We took her advice on which to order and LOVED it. Plus the honey wine (oh, my gosh, amazing!) and the ginger beer (so fresh and clearly real ginger). We could not be happier with the entire experience. We ate with our hands (tear the njera and use it to pick up scoops of sauce, food, etc) but there were forks provided just in case. The lentils were our favorite, i loved the mushrooms, the boiled cabbage and carrots were surprisingly great , and the potatoes were very good (we were split in the potatoes). Everything is vegan and delicious.
Ebony has delicious food, an enchanting atmosphere and wonderfully genuine staff. I would absolutely recommend their food and their business <3 Will definitely visit anytime I am in SLO.
We love Ebony! All vegan & gluten free menu. Super delicious food. Beautiful decor, very casual setting, order at the counter, can sit inside or outside on the beautiful creekside patio. Love that they're open with a full menu now and do family style plates for sharing (no more to-go contsiners). The Injera bread is light and springy and fantastic, made with teff. The standout dish for us is the spicy misir wot (red lentil dish). Other favorites are the goman (kale & onions), defen misir alicha wot (green lentils) and denech alicha wot (potatoes & carrots). Also the Ethiopian tea is a must for me, has such a delicious cardamom, ginger, clove, and cinnamon flavor. Also love that they have a water fill station with cups in-house. Overall is a bit pricey but absolutely worth it! The single order has two menu items plus a side salad for $18, the family style comes with four items plus the side salad, serves two people for $39. They also have a larger family style option for more people. Overall very filling! A must visit location, supporting a women-owned local small business ❤️
Four of us were happy to enjoy a shared dinner that included everything on the menu. Each dish had its own unique flavor and textures. The dinner was lovely to look at and savory and delicious to eat. We felt full without being overstuffed. It was all healthy and tasty. A lovely experience. We will be back again.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I recently visited Ebony SLO and was absolutely blown away! This Ethiopian gem offers not just incredible food, but also a delightful dining atmosphere. The interior decor is warm, stylish, and authentic, making you feel like you’ve been transported to another world. One of the standout features is their beautiful outdoor patio – it’s spacious, thoughtfully arranged, and perfect for enjoying a meal al fresco. Every detail of the presentation, from the table settings to the dishes themselves, was immaculate. The food was absolutely delicious, with vibrant flavors and generous portions. Each dish felt like it was prepared with care and attention to detail. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. If you’re looking for a place with great ambiance, top-notch Ethiopian cuisine, and a welcoming vibe, I highly recommend Ebony! It’s a true treasure.
Exceptional Ethiopian restaurant! This is a vegan’s paradise. I loved the split pea, lentil and chickpea dishes. The potatoes, cabbage and injera were also amazing. The fresh ginger beer is a must order. I’m a huge fan of the atmosphere and Ethiopian decor too. Wonderful people!
Always a good time here! Fantastic wholesome Ethiopian food! Simply wow! The food was absolutely delicious. It's super healthy and tastes great. Not oily or greasy or salty, just yummy! We grabbed a 2-person order that came with 2 servings of injera (Ethiopian flatbread) and 3 sides. Spicy lentils, cabbage+carrot, and red beets. Everything tasted great! They make everything fresh here. The owner and chef are both gluten-free so their whole kitchen and all cooking equipment is entirely gluten-free with zero cross-contamination! Their injera flatbread is made from teff flour with no wheat at all (unlike some other Ethiopian places). Everything is dairy-free as well. So this is really a fantastic place to bring friends with food intolerances! They just added a nice outdoor seating area which makes it a great spot to stop and enjoy the meal on-site. Definitely going back here! Can't wait for them to expand their hours. Update: their brunch on Sundays is super tasty as well! Definitely worth a visit on the weekend.
First of all, this is some of the best service and hospitality I’ve ever experienced. Such nice people. It’s a family owned business and it literally feels like they’re welcoming you into their home. Their energy is rare and very much appreciated. Food is AMAZING. Some of the best I’ve had. I love Ethiopian cuisine. Clean, organic and make with love and care. Some of the best food in the area in my opinion. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Exceptionally good food in a fun, light, cozy atmosphere. I can't have gluten or dairy so this place is especially wonderful. I ordered the portabello mushroom and a side of lentils. So much food and so delicious!! We will definitely be back.
As a first time Ethiopian food diner, I was blown away! The food was absolutely incredible. I had the single plate and chose the spicy lentil and potato and carrot dishes which was served along the traditional bread. I am leaving feeling perfectly full and extremely happy with my decision to dine here. I would highly recommend sitting on the beautiful creek side patio to complete your experience.
This is my weekly go to for dinner! Sweetest staff you’ll ever meet, always greeting us with a smile & positive conversations! The food here is beyond delightful & delicious! I think we’ve tried everything on the menu & nothing disappoints! My favorite is always the Denech Alicha with Ethiopian tea & the brownies! Also love the decor & the entire ambiance
We were so excited when we found out that SLO has an Ethiopian restaurant, and it was DELICIOUS! We ordered a "full order" for myself, my husband and our two young kids. We had the Spicy Misir Wot, the Ater Kik Alichhawot, and the Beet roots & carrots. They were all delicious, but our favorite was the spicy Misir Wot (even the 4yo loved it). We ended up getting another order of injera to finish off our sauces. The lady who took our order was super nice and very informative. She told us that everything is gluten free, as is all of the equipment they use, which wasn't a concern for us, but we have friends with severe Celiac's who would benefit from that knowledge. They have a small outdoor eating area with two picnic tables and an umbrella, and the employee told us they hope to get another table & umbrella soon. They are also making a great effort to use only compostable and recyclable packaging/utensils/etc, which is great, IMHO. The only negative we saw was that the full size didn't completely fill us (the 4yo was still hungry after) and with the extra injera, we were at over $30. Just wish the portions were a little bigger for the money. But everything was very well made and tasted great! We'll definitely be back!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FOOD! The atmosphere, the staff, the FOOD is all fantastic. Vegan or not, come here. You will not regret it.
Really good quality Ethiopian food!!Injera was very soft and fresh. My daughter and I had the 4 items for 2 people. Super delicious and not too salty or oily, yet flavorful and done just perfectly. I’d come back here again next time I visit SLO.

Food is good but the choices are limited. It's in the old Bliss Cafe location, beautiful SLO downtown.

I love this place! The vegetarian food is delicious and fresh. It is a great place for people who don't eat gluten, Ethiopian food is naturally gluten-free. I always feel fantastic after eating here - I feel light, nourished and satisfied, it is just right! The portion size is perfect. I have favorites, such as the Goman, lentil dishes and gluten-free teff brownies (!) - but every item I have tried I totally loved. Even if you don't think you like vegetarian food, give this place a try, it is delish! The ambiance is fun and friendly and the music sets a pleasant and lively vibe. Highly recommend!
This is a wonderful place. My family and I all come here often, and we so appreciate a healthy and vegetarian option in SLO- a rarity in this town. Beautiful setting on the creek. Great food. Our only request to the owner is to increase the portion size. We want you to be successful, and we usually have to order double the portions to feed everyone. The new sample plates, especially, are too small. Thank you!
Obsessed. Best meal I've had in the week I've been here. Everything is Vegan, and GF. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. The vibe is incredible. Patio seating backs up to the museum park, so- lots of lush trees and foliage. Incredible. Will eat here again and again.
Amazing experience and phenomenal food. Godebo served us and was absolutely fantastic. He was super personable and gave amazing recommendations. We had a two person sample platter and absolutely fell in love it. The food was so delicious and warm. Cannot wait to return!!!
Love this place in SLO. The food is super healthy. It’s vegetarian Ethiopian food and the ambience is spectacular, very relaxing and elegant. I love Ethiopian food in general, the injera bread and all the different dishes, and this place just makes it even better by being so healthful.
This place is amazing. We LOVE Ethiopian food, and they nail it here. The owner is kind and the food is on point. Great music, great vibe, outdoor seating by the creek and everything. Highly recommend. A lot of traditional elements as well as contemporary style.
